Our Opinion

The Excellence Punta Cana is an adequate resort for couples looking to relax and get away in Punta Cana. Great rooms and accommodations. The rooms are cleaned and stocked daily. It can be guaranteed that goodies (chocolate, soft drinks and beer) will always be stocked in the mini-bar. The resort also makes good use of their 24-hour room service, which is always prompt. Pleasant and helpful staff, especially those near the pools, bars and beaches. Good layout of the resort. There are plenty of pools within reach, so you'll never find a shortage of loungers anywhere. The beach is a good place to lounge as well. However, for those wanting to wade along the shores, be advised that the resort often discourages this specifically when waves and currents are strong. There are endless options for both buffet and a la carte restaurants. Make sure to check out the Grill and Spice a la carte restaurants!

5 year anniversary vacation

Excellence Punta Cana was wonderful for celebrating our 5 year anniversary. The grounds, pool and beach are beautiful. There are 9 restaurants so plenty of delicious options and didnt get bored of the food at all. The entertainment staff really made the trip special and so fun especially Ergie, Yanette, Rosie and Junior.

"Excellente" winter vacation

I traveled with a group of 11 friends in January 2017 to the Excellence Punta Cana resort. We had a wonderful time. The staff, from the cleaning people to the managers, were all very friendly and helpful all the time. Especially helpful was the Guest Relations manager, Yeifrid (he had us call him Jeffrey). He helped us arrange for special seating for our large group almost every evening at the different restaurants. He helped us arrange a surprise birthday party for one of our group members and even showed up that night to join in the festivities (and ordered more chamgpagne for us when we were running low.) The Food Service manager, Yarizabella was also very good at checking out that our tables were to our liking. We had several favorite waiters and bartenders who got to know us. Angel at "The Grill" was our waiter the first night. He was great at helping us be seated together and getting us acclimated to relaxed dining. We learned to answer "Excellente" whenever someone asked how we were doing. Dino out at the beach bar was the first to know how to make my favorite drink, the hummingbird. He remembered me every time I came back (and even if I saw him walking around other parts of the resort). Victor was such a nice young man (we couldn't believe he was 25 and had children). He served us several times at "Las Olas" and at "Chez Izabella". He "adopted" all of us ladies as members of his family. There was another Victor (very tall) at Las Olas who went by his last name who helped us a couple of times, too, moving tables for us to eat together. Ramon and John at the "Martini' bar were always willing to make me my special drinks, even though they were "blender" drinks and took longer to make. All the wait staff went out of their way to help us and make our dining/drinking experiences fun. Our bed was too hard for me and after trying a couple of mattress toppers that didn't help, the housekeeping manager came in and had them change the whole mattress. Lots better! Again, going way out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. The food was very good, although I don't recommend the beef or steaks. Stick with chicken or seafood. My husband was disappointed in the lack of shrimp, but he loved the lobster. Jeffrey even brought us some extra lobster one night after our steak meal the night before was less than impressive. Jose Antonio who made my omelets most mornings in "Toscanos" was a master! (And he does amazing bird calls). He would make any kind of omelet, toss them in the air and catch them in the pan. Lots of fruit and sweet rolls rounded out my breakfasts (and my tummy by the time I went home!) If you need a snack mid-afternoon, find the sports bar. They have 14 flavors of ice cream and cold sandwiches. (The oreos and peanuts from your room get a little boring after a few days, but came in handy when we took them along on our excursions.) The entertainment staff did a great job, too. Bianny was my favorite. She was by the pool every day we were there to play Bingo, make bead necklaces, play silly games for good prizes (rum and coffee). We got to know her quite well and visited with her about her home life and family. She was genuinely sorry the day we showed up in our "going home" clothes (long pants are a dead give away). The night time entertainment was not always the greatest, but they sure tried hard to keep everyone entertained. One night we volunteered to participate in the "Excellence Perfect Couple Contest". It was not at all what we expected but we went along with it and surprisingly won! We were awarded with a romantic dinner on the beach! Pretty cool (Too bad it was too windy the day we were supposed to have it and we ended up in a corner of a restaurant instead). We still got the "romantic" setup in our room and a bottle of champagne, too. I just can't say enough times how friendly and helpful every staff member there was. I used the gym and the staff there was helpful in getting me started on unfamiliar machines. (They had each machine stocked with a cold water and a towel already!) The ladies at the spa were wonderful at relaxing me. I highly recommend the 50 minute massage and hydrotherapy package. I think it was Marta or Mara was my massage therapist and she was great! I had a big bruise on my leg from a fall the night before and she was very gentle around that. Even the little guy from the spa who worked at the front desk, Junior, helped us when we needed someone to do some videotaping of our group. We wanted to take a group picture and they rolled up one of the rain screens just for us so we'd have a prettier background. (Yes it did rain a few times, but there was still plenty to do indoors). Always going the extra mile for us and with a group of 11, it wasn't always easy. I would highly recommend this resort! It was "excellente"!!!!

Favorite due for renovation.

This is our third time at Excellence Punta Cana. It remains one of our favorites, but there are issues that we hope they’ll fix when it shuts down for renovations this summer.These are the factors I judge a resort on; many are unchanged since our last visit three years ago:ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF CHAIRS: There were plenty at the beach, as well as the pool; finding space under umbrella trees is a challenge. Enough towels too.SMOKING: Not a problem. BEACH: Still the best, practically private at .45 miles long. Big waves, and meticulously groomed (no seaweed). POOL: One is very long, spanning half the resort, and the other has a waterfall.ENTERTAINMENT: The talent at circus night was as good as on “America’s Got Talent.” We also enjoyed “Michael Jackson” and the magic show.TENNIS AVAILABILITY: Three courts, I hardly saw anyone else ever use them..FOOD VARIETY: I was impressed with getting caviar one morning. Buffet had sushi, sangria, paella, mimosas and bloody marys. Some buffet food was not hot enough. Restaurants were usually good, French being the best.BARS: Nice sports bar by the tennis courts with sandwiches, ice cream and desserts.NON-HARRASSMENT: Saw just one vendor on the beach. TV STATIONS: Major network and cable available. Newspapers were free every morning.QUIET: The pools were mostly quiet. Likewise, the beach.STAFF: They seem to enjoy helping guests. CLEANING: Two days out of seven our room wasn't cleaned in the morning, and a call got a maid before too long.GROUNDS: Included an ecology trail with a friendly parrot. The entire walkway from rooms to the lobby is covered, though there are umbrellas in the rooms.ROOM: We had minor problems with the Jacuzzi, clock, TV remote; we look forward to renovations. Bathroom walls are made of glass, so light shines in room when someone uses at night. High-tech shower, nice.WRISTBANDS: No nonsense with wrist-band IDs or reservations for restaurants, not even a credit card request when checking in.SPA and HEALTH CLUB: Good.

Thanks for the wonderful time

We spent 12 fantastic days at the Excellence Punta Cana Resort.Our room was very large with a beautiful view of the ocean and the unique palm garden.The room staff was very efficient and made a great job.We were cared of by Gabriela from the Concierge Club. With her professionality, helpfulness and her kindness she made for us one of the most enjoyable holiday.It is unique that in the evening Excellence Punta Cana Resort is offering dinner in 9 fancy Restaurants. Excellence Punta Cana Resort is a real luxury all-inclusive Resort.Hopefully we will be back next year.

Sad to say but very disappointed

We had heard great things about this place. I don't think it's worth your time or money checking it out. Food is mediocre, most staff don't understand what you say, rooms okay but not luxurious for price you are paying. Nice view though. Our first room we ran the jacuzzi and water was brown, then jets pointed up so had a flood in the room. Was told by someone in concierge room that there are 3 levels of water supply and the water in jacuzzi would be brown. I upgraded at a cost of almost $2000 for a two storey room. The stairway going to rooftop smelled like wet cement. We asked for another room and they were happy to offer us a ocean front swim up and said that it cost more than room we were in. Not sure why. It is nice but trust me, not worth more than the $2000 I already spent. Fridge didn't work and it took 2 days and numerous requests to finally get new one. We've asked since Monday for vodka for room, still waiting and it's Friday. We have almost given up on ever seeing it. Would we come back - absolutely not. Would we recommend it - absolutely not. Go elsewhere. This place is not they place they advertise it is. Sad part is, it cost me $8500 CAD to find this out. Damn!
