Our Opinion
The IFA Villas Bavaro is a good resort for those couples looking to to relax in Punta Cana. The resort is very big, so this is great for those who don't mind walking around to explore the resort. However, they do offer shuttle services. The villas are the farthest from the beach and main resort area, so try to request and book rooms in the village area. The rooms might be a bit outdated. However, unless you're looking to spend a majority of your time indoors, it doesn't necessarily take away from the experience. There are plenty of buffet items to choose from and four a la carte restaurants. Good staff. Be advised that there is a charge if you're wanting to do a late check-out.
Located on the marvelous Bavaro Beach coast, the IFA Villas Bavaro features comfortable rooms set within charming villas. Surrounded by a stunning landscape and boasting a wide range of facilities, restaurants and services especially designed to ensure an unforgettable stay! Hotel complex includes IFA Bavaro Ocean, IFA Bavaro Village and IFA Villas Bavaro.

Location: Beachfront, 45 minutes to Higuey, 20 minutes from the airport.

Awesome vaca even with the rain!

I stayed here last week and loved every minute. The food was fine for me but then again, I'm not picky. The pizza is fabulous! I've read a lot of reviews on here but my personal experience was great. I stayed in the rear of the 3200 building and I've read a lot of complaints about the noise but I didn't hear much noise at all. They are still in the process of remodeling but that was no issue and once it is complete, this already beautiful resort will be absolutely amazing. The staff were so quick to help me in any way. The front desk was fast and seem less upon check in. And I had asked for assistance several times and they gave me service with a smile. When we got there, our room was not ready but we could still use all of the amenities so what can I complain about? Lol I got my swimsuit on, ate, drank, and laid out by the main pool until 2 when they checked me in early. At first my girlfriend could not find a bathroom but with a little basic spanish (which I highly recommend because it goes a loooong way and they appreciate it), the maids took her into a closed building just to help her. Our maid, Maria Castillo, was amazing and made sure that we had three bottles of water and two bottles of soda in our fridge every day. The maids sometimes get to the rooms around 5 or so but they have massive amounts of rooms to clean and they help clean the grounds as well so kudos to them. The grounds are always immaculate and they were always cleaning. The drinks aren't the strongest but that doesn't matter considering they are included. All in all, this resort was well worth the money and I would highly recommend it. I'm definitely going back next year!

Vacations are what you make them!

A lot of negative reviews on this hotel really made us worry about our choice of hotels. I will give a brutally honest review so it may help others with their decision. Check in was quick but we we early and our rooms were not ready until 3:00 pm on the dot. Some staff spoke lots of English, some a little and some none. Some were very friendly, some were not. Superior room was the best choice as it is newly renovated. Clean, new, spacious, with a balcony and a clean crisp white as the main colour theme of the room. The locks for the safe are $21USD/week. Free Wifi was not very good and we didn't purchase access to it. I am a picky eater but always found something to eat at the buffet. The pizza is good. The a la cartes had to be picked each day for the same day and most mornings the line was only a five minute wait. The food there was okay not superb but good and helped change it up from the buffet. You can visit them as much as you like. The pools are beautiful but offer very little shade. The beach is white soft sand, gorgeous and the seaweed is removed each morning. Shade is provided by palm trees only. Plentiful chairs but not always spots in the shade. Lots of boat traffic in this area and sea grass in swimming area. Evening shows were not the greatest and usually started around 10:00 for the dance productions if there were any. Of course this hotel didn't meet all of our standards, what ever truly does. It rained 4 of the 7 days but my party of 5 still enjoyed themselves because we were not working in snow and cold didn't have to cook and clean for ourselves. My spouse was ill for the last two days of our trip and still doesn't feel well, not sure if he picked up a bug or ate something bad but he was brushing his teeth with the tap water something we were warned not to do. HUGE shout out to ROBERTO HERNANDEZ! He was so helpful, friendly and warm he went out of his way to answer any of our questions! If you here whooohooo that is the man you want to talk to! Miss his smiling face and friendliness already! Met many great people some who have been returning for years and years, Would I return again? If I was going to return to Punta Cana yes. But there is a great big world out there to make some new memories.

All Inclusive - of Not Much

I have been to quite a few all inclusive resorts in different locations over the years, and sadly IFA Villas falls far below expectations. #1. First off, I have never been at a resort before where the individuals providing key services ( checkin, checkout, dinner reservations, excursion packages etc ) behave as if they do not speak or understand any other language but Spanish. I speak 3 languages, but Spanish is not one of them, and everyone that I had questions of throughout my stay acted as if it was far too difficult to answer my question or accomodate my request because of the language barrier. Asking for fresh towels, trying to make changes to a dinner reservation, finding out when/where something was to be held was just met with blank stares and indifference. If one's business is tourism and resort customer service, this is unacceptable, and is not anything I have encountered anywhere else.#2 There is ZERO wifi, which in this day and age is mindboggling. "Free wifi" was allegedly available in the lobby, $40 a day would supposedly buy you internet access property-wide; but neither was worth anything. There was a tiny 16x20 meter area in front of the theatre/entertainment/manicure area where you could send some limited texts, but even that was hit or miss, and the sight of all the people huddled there trying to take care of necessary interactions was truly pathetic.#3 The "animators" felt all entertainment should consist of music to which they would gyrate their hips suggestively and dry hump anything/anybody nearby: Not entertaining, Not funny unless you are 10 years old, and Not appropriate.#4 Excursions, massages, tours were hawked over and over even after they were declined with pouts and insistant demands to purchase them. If you said you had already done the activity, they rejoined "do it again!" Obnoxious.#5 The food was truly atrocious. Enough said. No one expects gourmet meals at an all inclusive resort, but this was terrible. And there was a morning queue every morning as reservations were required at all of the restaurants except the buffet one, with the line snaking out into the middle of the lobby by 8:30 am to be able to guarantee a spot at 9 am, when they started taking the reservations.#6 The water was apparently not safe to drink ( not sure, as questions about this were not answered/understood ) yet each room was provided with only 2 bottles of water, and one had to run around to the bars to beg for more.Compared to other all inclusive resorts of far higher quality, this resort was not notably, if at all cheaper. I do not recommend anyone waste their time or money coming to this resort; life is short and there are far better places to enjoy.

Not for us

We went there as a couple and had a villa room at the back of the hotel by the jacusi bar. The room was good, comfortable beds and the maid service was good if a little late in the day. We never went to either pool as there were no sunshades and it was difficult to get natural shade. The party pool had loud music blasting all day which was not relaxing. Also there was a lot of building work going on. Much more than we were advised of prior to our booking this hotel. The beach was disappointing. Only a small area roped off to swim in due to the constant stream of boats going back and forth. It was impossible to snorkel and the water wasn't very clear due to the oil from the boats. It was again hard to get shade as there were no sunshades on the beach. There was some shade from the trees but you had to get there early to manage to get one of these. We went to the right of the beach to get away from the noise of the animation team and noticed that a lot of beds were being used by people who were not even from the hotel. The beach bar was ok but we often had to queue for ages to get a table. Especially at the weekends when a lot of local people paid for day passes. The toilets at the beach were very small and you do not expect to have a unisex toilet in this standard of hotel. The toilets around the rest of the resort were often dirty. The food here was most disappointing. The breakfast and then lunch at the beach bar were ok but the food in the evening was terrible. We have been to the dominican Republic 5 times but this was by far the worse food we have ever had. Also the dining room totally lacked any atmosphere and it was like dining in a motorway cafe. Again large queues and my husband was sick the last few days of his holiday. To make a booking for the themed restaurants you had to queue up in the morning and my husband queued for at least half an hour on two occasions to book the Italian only to be told curtly that it was closed. There didn't seem to be anywhere to go to get away from the constant loud music. Ok if you are young but it was definitely not for us.Our overall impression was that the hotel had too many guests for the amount of facilities available. We will definitely not be going back

We went as a large group and booked back in July 2016. FLIGHTS- For March Break flights and check in with Sunwing was great. CHECK IN/OUT FRONT DESK -We checked in early at 11:30amand knew we would have to wait until 3pm to get our rooms but didnt get our rooms until 4pm. We really had to work hard to get our superior rooms as they kept trying to give some of us a standard room to get rid of us at the front desk. Bad communication skills with front desk staff. On our way out( check out) early morning they tried to get us to pay for a non existant charge of $1 which we refused to pay as were all inclusive all week and not allowed to charge to the room. Very frustrating to deal with front desk staff as they just kept saying come back tomorrow or come back later to pass it off on the next shift. ROOMOur room was one of the highlights of our trip as it was a Superior Room that was newly renovated. Very open concept, white and plenty of room. Beautiful. We were pool side which was noisy at times but we didnt mind as room was centrally located.BEACHBeach is a walk! 5 min from resort or you can take a shuttle. We walked and didnt use the shuttle. Beach is busy and we got their early to reserve a palm tree shade. The swimming area in front is decent. Lots of boats flying by to try and entice you or sell you a booze cruise as well as parasailing. Constantly trying to sell you something. People walking the beach to sell you massages etc. Beach bar and restaurant was decent but beach washrooms are men/women and small. I will mention 1 particular waitress DAYSI who always went above and beyond for us and remembered us as well as treated our young daughter with care.RESORT BEACH ACTIVITIESThis place ticked me off royally! SO RUDE!! Anytime we went up to ask to use snorkle/mask or sailing we were rudely talked to and told they were going on break and could only use for 20 min instead of full hour. Another guest stood by and actually spoke up on my behalf to the attendant. They were not helpful and only had time for you if you wanted to buy scuba time or spend money on something they offered. We were just interested in what our resort had to offer for free...kayaking, snorkling, sailing etc. You have to put up your credit card if you want to use the sail boats and they wont help you with any of it!TENNISWe used the tennis courts because it was a chance for our 10 year old to practice. Equipment was damaged, broken strings and damaged balls. tennis courts smelled like sewer at times. SERVICE*Maid service was excellent. Although rooms were not even touched until 4pm when you are coming back from the beach to get cleaned up for dinner. *Bar Service - my husband noticed that the young male bartenders at the pizza bar gave poor service unless you were a young girl in a bikini. I found the female servers at pizza bar could be nasty and abrupt. However, the beach bar had decent service. DAYSI was a female waitress at the Beach Restaurant who ALWAYS gave you great service and remembered what you liked. We went in everyday to see her. Special person for sure. My daughter loved her.WIFI - didnt exist!! We had a plan on our phone however needed wifi for work etc. There were 2 locations to get wifi- standing out front of spa and in the cafe dominican...both locations didnt ever give us service. very frustrating as this is a very important amenity people rely on when they go on vacation. POOR!SUNWING - Nexxus driver and tour director were friendly and helpful. gave us great service to and from the resort. I liked that tour guide asked us what we thought of the resort on the bus. Sunwing REP at resort was useless. We were supposed to get a group dinner as well as welcome cocktail and all we got was the run around. He kept passing us off to the resort to arrange and resort kept telling us to talk to the rep. The REP onsite Ramsel? didnt do a thing for us. Other than trying to sell you more what are they there for? What if we needed his help? It was disappointing that we didnt have a group dinner arranged and we had to arrange something for ourselves. When we asked the resort to do it they said we cant arrange that many people in our restaurants because we have other guests to deal with! What about us? were we not guests to them? Entertainment at night was fine. I will say we enjoyed the trio merengue gentleman going around playing for everyone. They joined in with our group one evening for a sing along it was fun. Pools - 1 party pool and 1 quiet pool. Party pool is loud and small. Quiet pool is alot nicer but also small. Shops and services - nice and offered plenty however can be very expensive. I priced a bottle of sunblock at $35 USD that you would pay $7 for back home. GYM/SPA AND MASSAGE - my husband would go to the gym and everyday someone from the spa would come up and offer him a massage by 1 or 2 people! What? There was 1 day that he was asked by an actual masseuse. He got the feeling there was regular services offered as well as "other" options. We werent the only people who got this impression. GROUNDS/NATURE - Grounds were meticulous! Absolutley beautiful! Grounds keepers work so hard. Everything was spotless. We also noticed roosters, hens, cats (healthy), beautiful birds such as peacocks, flamingos. This became a highlight for my daughter and she began to keep track of all the critters and animals she would find throughout the resort. SECURITY - This resort is not gated as far as I can see. There were plenty of security guards around resort as well as the beach. However it wouldnt take very much for people to access resort via beach or lobby as its wide open. There were actual people who partied it up at the resort while we were there for most of an afternoon until security got wind of it and asked them to pay or get out.SICKNESS - There were at least 5 people in our group who got sick. Not sure how as water bottles are supplied in rooms. We talked about it and it was very hard to pinpoint an exact cause or area or day in common. Stomach cramping, diarrhea, vomitting all in common. INROOM SAFE - $3 USD/day for a lock and block! $21USD to keep your stuff safe! I'm used to 4/5 Stars providing this for free.PRICE AND STAR RATING: If the resort had better management I would give it a 4 star, however I've stayed at 2 star Cuba where the hospitality and care were far better and they could speak better english. The resort is pricey! Its not located directly on the beach and service is overall terrible unless you are flashing some cash around. Overall the people we travelled with, the family and friends created a great time. Its because we are nice people that we didn't complain much. But the quiet ones, those are the people who wont be back. No one from the resort asked us how our stay was because they didn't care to know. I said, bad managment.
