Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

The Majestic Colonial Punta Cana is a wonderful resort for families and couples looking for a great stay in Punta Cana. While the food options aren't the best (there are far better options at other resorts). However, if you're looking for a place that has some of the nicest beaches, oceans, private pools, beds and top-notch service, this is definitely the resort to check out. Those who opt for the colonial club option get the opportunity to check out private pools and swim-up bars. Those who visit this resort will definitely have a pleasant stay!
My friends and I just stayed at the Majestic Colonial for a week. We are frequent travelers and speak from a background of extensive experience. I almost didn't choose this hotel after reading other guests' negative comments about the food, and because it is so large I thought it might be too impersonal, but I am glad we booked here. Our room was beautiful and comfortable. The most outstanding thing about this resort is the staff. Every single staff person we came in contact with was cheerful and friendly and made a tremendous effort to anticipate our needs and meet them. The waiters at the breakfast buffet even remembered how we each liked our coffee! The bartenders were friendly and accommodating. The resort has several restaurants and two buffets. Some of the food was outstanding, some was average, some was not so great. This is the case anywhere you go. There was such a great variety of choices, so this was not a problem. For people who say the food was terrible, I want to remind you that you are in a foreign country. While they go to great lengths to make the food taste like what you are used to, it is still not the same food. You need to appreciate what a different place has to offer. The hibachi restaurant and the gourmet restaurant were world class! The shows that were offered at night were infinitely superior to any I have seen at other similar resorts or on any cruises I have taken. The performers even joined the audience afterwards to take pictures with people who wanted to do so. I don't understand how other reviewers could say that there was "nothing to do," as there were activities offered all day. We preferred to take several excursions offered at the service desk, including an interesting and informative historical tour of Santo Domingo, the Capitol. These were also very good. The beach was beautiful, and the pool was also a pleasure. The only thing that could have been better was the artisan market that is offered one evening. While there were nice things to buy, the vendors were so aggressive that we stopped looking and moved on to another activity. We would have made some purchases if we had felt comfortable browsing without pressure. All in all, this was a good resor that I would recommend to friends and family.
Truly enjoyed our stay at the Majestic Colonial Resort. The staff goes above and beyond to accommodate their guests. Many different varieties of food to choose from at several restaurants. Also, a private butler. Thank you, Javier for making sure our vacation went perfect.
We just got back from here and overall loved this place. The beach here is just beautiful and you can walk along the shore for a while as there are other resorts on either side, so plenty of people around. The pools are fantastic, especially the pool bar. We had colonial club access but enjoyed the main pool over the colonial club pool. It is too shady and dark in that area but very nice lounge chairs and lounging beds. The food is good at the buffets, we especially liked the buffet that is right near the beach, makes it very convenient and the views are just beautiful! The entertainment staff work so hard...upbeat all day! They are wonderful! We had some issues with check in but more of the travel agents fault than hotel. The butler we had did not do much of anything so not really sure it was worth having him. Overall this place is beautiful, clean and fun. I would recommend to anyone going to Punta Cana.
My husband and I stayed at Majestic Colonial for 5 days with another couple. We upgraded to the Colonial Club when we were checking in and it was well worth it! The property is beautiful and there was always something to do. Everyone was so friendly and clearly loved working there. Javier was our personal butler and was absolutely amazing! He was always looking for ways to make our trip more memorable and checked in with us every day to see how everything was going. He was always one step ahead of us, moving our baggage before we even asked and pulling strings to get us restaurant reservations. After seeing some of the other butlers interact with their customers, it was easy to see that Javier was everyone's favorite. He is so personable, approachable, and easy to work with. He clearly loves his job and his country and is so proud to be working for Majestic Colonial. There were definitely some pros and cons during our stay but overall we would stay there again for sure.We initially stayed in a room facing the courtyard on the 3rd floor but since it was two double beds we changed to a room with one king bed on the first floor facing the courtyard after the first night. Our friends stayed in a room facing the pool and it was significantly louder than our room. With that said, the first floor was much louder than the third because everyone walks through it to get to any of the rooms in the Colonial Club. If we were to go back, I would definitely request a room on one of the higher floors facing the courtyard. The swim up rooms looked nice but the swim up area is not private and didn't seem worth the money. We went on two excursions which was just enough to enjoy the resort to the fullest and stay relaxed while still being adventurous. Be sure to check out reviews for excursions because we didn't for one and it was a big flop. Also be weary that the companies that provide your travel to and from the airport have 'contracts' with the excursion companies so you will be limited in your excursion options based on what company you use for travel. Unfortunately, there is no way to know which companies are connected to which. There were plenty of food options for our 5 days but overall the food was average. All of the restaurants were clean, had fast service, and used filtered water. We had no issues with food or water. The staff is also always refilling the room mini fridge with bottles of water and chocolate. The beach area and pools were great, with swim up bars and waiters walking around taking drink orders. It is definitely a fight to get a chair or a cabana bed, so be sure to go to the beach early to claim a spot. We often found that people left towels and shoes to claim an area the night before and didn't show up on the beach until mid day, which was kind of a bummer to see. But the beach has a volleyball net, soccer net, and various water sports that are included. One downside was that all of the pools close at 6pm-which seemed a bit odd for the adult only side of the resort. That meant that the resort really quieted down after dinner with much less options to do. The on site entertainment changed every night and was always fun to watch but only runs from 9:15-11pm. We did have one cooler, rainy day there when there wasn't much to do and really would have enjoyed a jacuzzi to be able to enjoy outside without being too cold in the pool. Unfortunately, there is no heated jacuzzi besides a very small one in the spa that you have to pay $10/pp/hr for. The resort advertises jacuzzis attached to the pools but they are simply jetted areas of the pool that are not heated. I would definitely recommend bringing playing cards for potential rainy days. There is also a little strip of shops that sells playing cards and souvenirs for the rainy days. If you are doing your research and looking at the differences between Elegance and Colonial, there really isn't one. The resorts are back to back with no definitive line between them. We walked over there a few times on our cooler day just to check it out and the resorts are almost identical. The nightly entertainment and restaurants are different but the set up is pretty much the same. Overall, the stay was great, the resort is wonderful, Javier is the best, and we would definitely visit again! Pros: Beautiful propertyCleanFriendly staffGood entertainmentGreat serviceCons:Pool closes at 6pmFood is averageLittle to do with poor weatherNo warm jacuzzi
Majestic was perfect. The hotel was clean, service was good and hotel was beautiful. The food was great with options for anyone. Only two of the restaurants required reservations and we didn't have to wait long to be seated at the others. The Club level offers private check in, and you get your own concierge for the duration of your stay. Francisco was ours and he was amazing! He would find us wherever we were in the hotel and check in on us each day. If we needed something we could call him and it would be done! He made it tough to come home after being so pampered! We went on vacation with two other couples and had a great time, our biggest complaint was the music at the club level pools we Dominican all of the time, and we were looking for something more lively at times. I would suggest bringing a wireless Bluetooth speaker so you can play your own music. The family pool would have activities and play American music. They worked hard to pump everyone up and get them involved. The foam party was a lot of fun! The entertainment staff did a great job and I swear they work from morning until dawn! The evening shows were just average. They seemed to all be so similar that after watching a couple we didn't care to go any more. The dance club was a good time, but it doesn't pick up until late so you have to really be ready to stay out late to enjoy it.Overall I would definitely recommend this resort and if you are not bringing kids then you have to upgrade to the Club Level. It was well worth it just for the check in process alone. Francisco was the best, and we loved having him around to help us with every need. There is also a private reception area in the club level with beverages and food around the clock, 24 hour room service, and the entire resort had top shelf liquor available. You just had to ask for it when requesting a drink. Bring a large mug or you'll be asking for drinks a lot because their glasses are small!
