Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

The Majestic Colonial Punta Cana is a wonderful resort for families and couples looking for a great stay in Punta Cana. While the food options aren't the best (there are far better options at other resorts). However, if you're looking for a place that has some of the nicest beaches, oceans, private pools, beds and top-notch service, this is definitely the resort to check out. Those who opt for the colonial club option get the opportunity to check out private pools and swim-up bars. Those who visit this resort will definitely have a pleasant stay!
We visited the resort Jan 12 -19. Everything was as advertised. The beach was amazing and you can walk for miles both ways. The food was good, with our favourite restaurant being the Japanese. We were there for a wedding which was done very well. The staff was always friendly and Hector our butler looked after reservations and luggage pickups.Just a warning, if you leave the resort the vendors are pretty aggressive . All in all a good vacation
We stayed at the Majestic Colonial 12-29 to 1-3, family of 3. Pros: wonderful powdery beaches; jade-green ocean; easy to get a beach chair. Beach vendors very polite: we could walk both ways up and down the beach without being bothered. The pool was long and curving, so never felt crowded. Room was nice, but not 5-star. Music was good (both piped in and live); shows were good, especially Michael Jackson and New Year's Eve. Cons: no hot tub/jacuzzi; very limited pool-side service; food decent but not great (and one restaurant required long pants and closed-toe shoes, and no kids under 12!). Guest service was not very friendly, other staff were mainly impersonal -- you had to flag them down to get water, for example. Angel, who came to fix our door, was the exception. Room was fine but fridge barely cold, A/C also barely cold; no separation between sink area and bedroom; safe didn't work; door failed to open twice. Also -- a big minus, no game room, as it stated on the web site, and fewer than 11 restaurants. Also note kids' pool is really only for toddlers.
The experience started at Majestic Colonial and we initially started at the front desk. We were helped by a gentleman named Amado. We had initially wanted to go to Majestic Mirage but we were obviously in the wrong place. Amado made the transfer seamless. The entire staff made sure we were brought over to the Mirage with all our luggage. Amado and the rest of the staff are top notch!! Experience was excellent and made our anniversary perfect. Thanks again Amado!!
January, 2018. This is our first time in Punta Cana and 7th all-inclusive vacation. We are travelling with another couple and stayed in Majestic Colonial. This hotel is very good and definitely recommend it. We are not beach personThe good:DrinkMust have the majestic. Their welcome drink and it tastes great. I am not an alcohol drinker and even I enjoyed it.GroundThe ground is very well kept and nice and clean. Lots of worker are doing the up keeping everyday. We walked around the hotel everyday after meals and really enjoyed the view.RoomVery nice large room with in-room single person jacuzzi. Right after we got into our room and we were surprised that all the electric plugs looks different than in US. I wished I brought the international plug adaptor; however, the outlet has a special kind of plug and allows a few different types of plugs. So, we were able to charge our phones/laptops using the US plugs.BeachVery well maintained and groomed everyday. My wife loved walking on the beach in the early morning(7ish am) and not many people around. The sand is very soft and the only foot prints on the beach is hers. We walk along the beach in the afternoon and got lost the first time and went pass our hotel then turned back. Lots of beach chairs around and did not have trouble finding a chair under the shade.RestaurantsLe Gourmet is great but you have to order the right dishes and not all dishes are good. Duck confit and Seabass are absolutely great. Monkfish looks great but the fish itself is the chewy type, not for me and gave it to my wife. For dessert, order White Love or chocolate something(forgot) and don't bother with creme brulee. Service and atomsphere is great. RodeoI ordered grilled sirloin and my wife has surf and turf(lobster and fillet mignon). Sirloin was tasty but I order medium but got well done. Lobster is OK and fillet mignon was a bit too well done. So, did not enjoy it too much.Lunch buffet at seaside restaurant(forgot the name)Because we woke up late and this is pretty much the only place open after noon time so we went there almost daily. It has very good selections. Freshly grilled fish is very good. Seabass, grouper and swai, all good.SupremeNice indoor buffet and lots of stuff to choose from. We love the different kinds of freshly made juices, watermelon, citrus, beets, cucumber and etc. They have made-to-order juices with alcohol as well.MexicanThis is our least favor. We went there the second night and service is OK. Food is terrible. I ordered some kind of soft shell taco but it seems like my dish has been sitting there under the heat lamp for ten minutes or more. The soft shell is already harden and not edible.JapaneseThis is the best place to go and we went there twice. The hibachi is great and they really bring the crowd into the happy mode. Steak is juicy and with lots of flavors. EnterainmentAngelica, Meme, Edy, Junior, Blondy all good. My wife and I went to Zumba on the beach almost every day at 12:30pm. Nightly shows are great and go there at least 10 minutes earlier to get a good seat.Souvenir shopsWe usually bring back some T-shirts or mugs when we go on a trip. The price in the mini-mart within the hotel is very good and better than outside of the hotel. However, one word of note is to pay with peso. The shop wants 450 peso for a T-shirt(which is about US$9) but wanted US$12 if we pay in dollars. ExcursionsPay in peso instead of US dollars to get a cheaper price.Isle SaonaFood/drink is very generously provided and the scheduling is very well done so the area did not seem over crowded even though there are lots and lots of people. Santa DomingoVery good trip overall. The tour goes like cigar factory tour, lunch, church and shopping. There was a surpring underground cave and it was a half hour tour. Bilingual tour via headset. Logistics is very well scheduled. The bad:SmokingSince this is the first time I am in Punta Cana, I don't know if this is because of the hotel or the custom here. There are SO many smokers in the hotel. They smoke almost everywhere outdoor. I am from US and used to non-smoking environment and smoking are only allowed in certain spots. Not here. On the beach, outdoor patio and people even smoke in an open air theater that can host 300+ people. Do not go to the free transportation for shopping trip in Bella Ware. BellaWare is a small and expensive place to buy souvenirs. See my review on that store. Room service:After an afternoon of swimming, we got locked out of our room because of door card reader ran out of battery. Our friend's room had a water leak in the sink area. It took a few(not just one) phone calls and two trips to the front desk in wet swimming suit to get this fix. It took a good half hour before anyone shows up. I wished the house keeping staff can proactive notice the door card reader is almost out-of-battery. Have it changed so guests do not have suffer through this. Recommendation to the hotel- There are three hotels in this Majestic resort complex, Colonial, Mirage and one other. I think the management can make it easier for guests to go to other hotels so they might go to the other for their next trip. Maybe the hotel map should contain a map of whole complex instead of just this hotel only. I would love to walk around to other hotels and also we are not sure if we are allowed to try other restaurants in other hotels.- theater Seat arrangement. The aisle has single seat and double seat next to them, then single seat. This makes the entire row can only sit one couple because couples wants the double seat. If you can re-arrange the seats so that it goes like single, single, double, then each row can seat two couples.- cleaning the walkway. The cleaning crew should clean one side of the road first so people can pass and clean the other side.
