Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

The Majestic Colonial Punta Cana is a wonderful resort for families and couples looking for a great stay in Punta Cana. While the food options aren't the best (there are far better options at other resorts). However, if you're looking for a place that has some of the nicest beaches, oceans, private pools, beds and top-notch service, this is definitely the resort to check out. Those who opt for the colonial club option get the opportunity to check out private pools and swim-up bars. Those who visit this resort will definitely have a pleasant stay!
Overall a very good stay that exceeded expectations. Resort was beautifully manicured (the hard working gardeners literally pick the dying leaves off the plants before they hit the ground), the buffets and restaurants were good (try the sancocho soup at the Dominican restaurant), and the drinks were top shelf and not sickeningly sweet like many other all inclusive, although I was disappointed when the lobby bar didn't carry any of the ingredients for the gin and tonic drinks). Pool was lovely and beach was large, and surf was fairly calm-- we were happy that we brought snorkels as there were plenty of fish to see. Beach could have used more wait staff and it would have been nice if the beach restaurant had been stocked with more ice cream, Popsicles, and to go snack options. Kids enjoyed the kids club and their performance in an evening show. The entertainment was the highlight, from the foam party to the evening performances. Kudos to Rissa and Coca Cola whose enthusiasm and smiles are infectious. Staff is universally warm. A point of comparison- I stayed 1.5 years ago at Hard Rock. Majestic Colonial far surpassed it. Room quality was about the same. Drinks at Hard Rock were far too sweet and house wine was unpalatable (you had to spend money out of pocket to upgrade)--not the case at the Majestic where even the sparking wine was decent. I wouldn't let my kids in the water at Hard Rock, surf was too dangerous. And food was much better at the Majestic-- for example the meat quality at the beef restaurants was far better. And the Majestic is far less expensive. Overall a good trip.
Beautiful resort and gorgeous beach, but had issues with the room, food was mediocre and was tough to find service who understood English. Room service was often wrong because of the language barrier. We also were supposed to get a room with two queen beds, but they were out so my friend and I got a king instead - ok if you are a couple, which we were not!
I will first start off by saying this resort is very accommodating and helpful. My 2 kids have severe allergies and one is celiac and Rhadames the waiter in the buffet went above and beyond to help us so my son could eat well at all meals. Now the selection of gluten free was not that large and absolutely no dessert for someone with celiac not even sorbet but they did have gluten free bread and pasta and whatever veggies and meat you wanted. Lots of entertainment and never dull. Alexander one of the entertainment staff always made it a point to say hi and always had a smile on his face. Rooms very clean and spacious. Beds are comfortable. Felix in the marina was great we bought Para sailing from him. He was always on top of the weather for us if we could go out or not if it was safe. Pierre Peterson one of the camera crew guys was very pleasant. Although we didn't purchase any pics from him. He was pleasant to talk to didn't act like we wasted his time. And every time he pass by always said hi. Overall the resort is great. Had a very nice stay. Very enjoyable. Oh I almost forgot our air canada rep Carlos he was amazing and so helpful to us. He did all currency exchange for us cheaper then anywere. And if you have Canadian tire money bring it he will take it dollar for dollar .
I just got back from vacation. IT was an amazing week in the beautiful Punta Cana. THe resort was clean and well kept, the pool, area was a lot of fun with the entertainment crew and the beach was lovely. The servers try their best and it takes a while to get a drink but Not a deal breaker. Cristian Tavarez was super friendly and made us feel at home. Fernando the Chef made an amazing paella on the beach on Thursday and told us all about the recipe. The buffet food was ok. We ate at Le Gourmet and Tres Carabelas too. YOu need to make a reservation but it was no problem. We got to go into a trailer with 5D movies and we had a great time, it was a nice kittle break from the beach and pool. The night entertainment was fun, specially the live music before the show at the theatre. My favorite part was how welcoming and warm everybody was. risa and Doris were very sweet to all guests making them feel at home. The boys were super fun, Luis "Coca Cola" is a hoot and Alexander had alwas a sincere smile. We loved the experience at the Taino Restaurant where we celebrated my daughter's birthday. Our server was Almonte and he told us all about the local cuisine, he was super nice.We took a tour to Higuey through the company El Compay and it was a nice way to get away from the resort for the day. We visited the Basilica, an organic farm, a ranch, rode horses and ended the trip by taking a dip in a local beach, Macao. Both check in and check out were a breeze. We loved our time at Majestic Colonial. best part was the people, friendly, sweet and helpful. I have traveled the world and I can honestly say Dominicans are one of the mpst loving people I have ever met.
It's a 30 minute bus ride (please arrange prior to flight departure). Punta Cana airport was built just for the tourist trade. Beautiful open air airport. All three Majestic resorts are next to each other. The check-in desk sizes you up. If you have kids you will stay in the standard side of the hotel. As a couple, they upgraded us to the Colonial VIP side. You have your own pools, bars, beach bar, beach section and VIP Lounge. Lounge open from 6 AM to 12AM, with concierge services. Really nice touch, food and bar beverages all day and night long. Colonial pools are staffed from 8 AM to 6:PM. If I forgot to mention, this is an all inclusive resort. I casually counted 12 bars on the property, excluding the 7 restaurants. The service is outstanding and particularly Javiar our sort of personal concierge, that checked up on us at least once a day. (We were there for 9 days). Amazing guy, Javier, very nice. He should win a customer service award. They have an event board set up for each day, full of activities well into the night. Live band each night outdoors (with bar)!. A roughly 40 seat covered auditorium, where they have an event each night at 9:30 to 11:00 (with huge bar). Our room was very nice and beautiful with a whirlpool tub in the middle of the room. A few English speaking TV channels. The WIFI was a little slow so we couldn't stream Netflix. The hotel rooms section is very long and only 4 floors high. No high rise here, thank you!Plenty of subtle security, if you ever thought it might be an issue. They are very protective of their tourist trade. This resort if really big!!! So large, they have a real pharmacy on premises and a medical clinic, which I used once, Both great service!!My only issue with the entire stay was with the food. I know that it is an all inclusive resort, but there were some things that could have done to make the food much better. I am in the food service industry, so I am speaking from over 30 years of knowledge and experience. There is a French Restaurant, best food, make reservations a few days in advance. Japanese country steakhouse with sushi, an other reservations is necessary but not par with any Japanese steakhouse at home. A Dominican/Mexican buffet restaurant, which was fun and interesting. The main buffet (huge) that we ate New Years Eve dinner and breakfasts. Tons of options good buffet. All in the main building. AT the beach was a seafood and steak restaurants, sharing the same open air roof. We ate buffet lunch here most days. It was OK, but get in by 3:00!!! We ate dinner in both, average food. We had room service four times, breakfast twice, dinner twice. Dinner needs some help. I've never seen chicken wings so tiny. Caesar salad is simple: romaine, parmesan, croutons and dressing. This was iceberg, some diced dry chicken and some creamy dressing. The rest followed suite. Don't fret about the food. Drink and be happy. We would definitely go back. Great place, great people, great location. Worth the $$!!!!!
