Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

The Majestic Colonial Punta Cana is a wonderful resort for families and couples looking for a great stay in Punta Cana. While the food options aren't the best (there are far better options at other resorts). However, if you're looking for a place that has some of the nicest beaches, oceans, private pools, beds and top-notch service, this is definitely the resort to check out. Those who opt for the colonial club option get the opportunity to check out private pools and swim-up bars. Those who visit this resort will definitely have a pleasant stay!
I traveled to the Dominican Republic for the first time in March for my destination wedding. I chose to stay at the Majestic Colonial after reading reviews and we were not disappointed!!The resort itself is very nice - beautiful beaches, great pools, nice rooms. However, the best part was the amazing and incredible staff at the Colonial. From the on-site wedding coordinator (Andrenia is incredible!) to each and every staff member (Shout out to Yenis at the Lobby Bar!), everyone was always smiling and so helpful. My husband and I, along with our 40 guests, all have traveled to all-inclusives throughout the Caribbean and Mexico and all talked about how this one was of the best we had experienced. I would highly recommend it to anyone!
Ok...I know there are approx 18K reviews of this place so I'll try and make this as user friendly as possible. To summarize: This is a great place for the money you pay. It doesn't compare to a 5 star resort but you shouldn't compare a steak from Applebees to a steak from Ruth's Chris. If you want elegance, phenomenal service and gourmet food...choose a 5 star resort where you will pay twice the money. But if you're happy with a resort with a great pool and beach, beautiful grounds and public spaces, decent food and mostly good service then you will be happy with the Colonial. Here is my take on the resort:*Pool - it's big, clean, lots of lounge chairs, central to all rooms, has a swim up pool bar, daily fun activities if you want to participate in. It may be the best part of this resort besides the beach. Get their early to reserve chairs...* Beach - It's beautiful! Big, Lots of loungers with shade, water is a spectacular green, ( caution: can be rough with some undertow at times), beach bar service, near restaurants. Great to walk up and down for miles.*Restaurants/food- we didn't visit all but Japenese and Main (Supreme) buffet stood out. Mexican was pretty good. Steakouse OK, etc. Make reservations for all nights as soon as you get there. Some different menu items and flavor profiles then what you find in the U.S. so be prepared. check out the beach BBQ they have daily...they make an enormous pot of jambayla on a wood stoked fire - delicious. * Bar/Drinks - some were undrinkable/unrecongnizable like a Margarita we ordered, some were ok. I'm not sure how it works but we were able to order some top shelf liquor at the lobby bar for no extra charge. Grey goose martinis, Tangeuray and tonics. Some of the bartenders were really not all that friendly compared to other staff. Dirty Monkey (think banana/choc mudslide) and Bikini Martini were favs, Miami Vice (tropical frozen drink for kids) was great. * Resort Layout - there are two sides to the resort divided by the large pool. On one side is the Colonial Club side (no kids allowed) the other side, where we stayed kids were allowed. Colonial Club includes free room service and have an adult only pool and you get a butler.Restaurants are located near the main lobby and also near the beach. * Rooms - our room, a Jr Suite, no Colonial Club/Butler was fine. Weird layout with no privacy, closet size toilet room, big shower with good pressure and hot water, a jacuzzi we never used, a tv that only got 3 english channels which was no big deal. A mini bar that we never used. Clean enough room and daily maid service. We had top floor room / end unit- no musty smell. AC worked but if you like it cold...you may be out of luck. Our room refrig only kept things slightly cool. Bed was comfy though pillows are too large and firm for my liking. * Staff - a mixed bag. overall I'd say 2/3 were very friendly/accommodating. Like anywhere though, some were better than others. Buffet staff was awesome and friendly, some bartenders not so much. Staff at resort shops...appeared as though their dogs just died. * Check In - Needs Improvement! after a long day of travel we waited about an hour in line to check in and when we got to the front they told us our room wasn't ready yet. All in all about 2 hours + before we got into our room and to the beach/pool. * Entertainment -plenty of organized things to do if you want to. There are resort activities going on all day. Anything from beach volleyball, to Spanish classes to water aerobics. We chose not to do any. There is a performance/show at 9:30 every night. We only went to Micheal Jackson show and it was entertaining for the most part.* WIFI - didn't work in all locations and it was slow/weak. don't plan on streaming very much but if you just want to check emails and post on FB you should be ok. It definitely was faster in the morning before everybody got on and shared what limited bandwidth was available. * Tap Water - we all drank the tap water and we were fine. * Casino -small but OK. I just played BlackJack and found house rules to be generous. Most dealers seemed skilled though one I caught making several mistakes in house favor while counting/paying out and had to correct her. * Towel Service - you need to turn in towel cards to get a pool/beach towel at one of 2 towel huts. One near pool, one near beach. You can get new ones every day but need to turn in old towels to get a new one. * Smoking - we are non-smokers and were turned off by the many people smoking at the resort. Smokers are allowed to smoke at the pool, beach, hallways, rooms?, and even at the lobby bar and I think pretty much anywhere but the restaurants.and casino. A big negative in our book. * Room Service - we never used it as it was extra for us. It's included in the Colonial Club package. * Other - the Colonial is just 1 of 3 Majestic resorts all adjacent to each other. They are all interconnected and we found it interesting to walk through all of them. The other two are newer and seem a bit more upscale.
love everything. Everything was excellent great restaurants great food excellent entertainment staff, excellent service and excellent cleaning staff. always ready to assist you with anything. excellent room with a beautiful view to the pool and to the beach. beautiful flowers in the room every day. a jacuzzi
We stayed at the Majestic Colonial Club side of the resort 3rd floor with pool view overlooking the bar. Recommend garden view for more privacy away from partying adults. Only room, pool & section of beach is "kids free". We enjoyed our vacation at the Majestic Colonial Club so much that by the 3rd day we both agreed we are planning to return next year. We are middle aged seasoned travelers & have been to most of the islands. This was one of the most relaxing fun Carribean vacations ever! The resort is breathtakingly beautiful, lush with palms, tropical flowers, white sandy beaches with aquamarine clear ocean water. Weather was perfect & not a "bug" in site. Some guests do reserve shaded chairs, but we hit the beach around 9:00AM & had our choice. (Don't believe the negative reviews) The place is gorgeous, the buffets & tropical drinks were outstanding, We visited 2 specialty restaurants & decided we preferred the service, variety & quality at the buffets. Ausome breakfast with fresh squeezed juices, fresh fruit, eggs any way, Belgium waffles, custom crepes, etc. Always available at lunch & dinner freshly grilled to order chicken, fish, meat, veggies & pastas. Something for everyone! Yummy desserts, ice cream & custom smoothies. We were hesitant at first but by 2nd day ate & drank everything with absolutely no stomach issues. The staff is friendly & accommodating to your every need. You can partake in all the outdoor entertainment, beach & pool parties or just lie on the beach & chill if that's your thing. At night great outdoor live bands, dancing, entertaining shows, sports bar, casino & disco. Staff continuously offered us drinks & delicious snacks are available any time of day or night. Entertainment staff is excellent whether organizing games, Zumba class, contests, etc. at the beach & always encouraging everyone to participate or to dance with them. Foam party at pool was a blast! We will never forget what a great time we had at the Majestic! 😎
