Majestic Elegance Punta Cana

A top-notch choice for those wanting a romantic getaway. The resort is tended by incredibly exceptional staff. The rooms are modern, elegant, and well-maintained. Make sure to request a suite with a swim-up room and jacuzzi. OK buffet options; great a la carte restaurants as well. If you're looking for something really fancy, make sure to check out the steakhouse and Italian restaurants. The grounds are immaculate. However, there have been some issues with various pool areas. The tiles have a tendency to come loose and litter the poolside area. This does not take away from your stay however. Overall, a great choice for those looking to stay in Punta Cana.
The grounds of the Majestic are lovely, and the landscaping/pools beautiful. Upon arrival, the resort makes a great first impression with an enormous and beautiful open-air lobby and delicious frozen tropical welcome drink (called "the Majestic," of course). The private check-in for the Elegance Club was slow but pleasant, and the butler took quite a bit of time getting us to our room. When we got there, it was extremely large, very clean and quite comfortable -- if a bit cheesy, with rose petals everywhere and towels twisted into dreadful swans.Notes on the room -- Air conditioning worked great. Balcony was nice to have. Room was quiet and very spacious. Shower was strange (smoky glass door, fairly transparent), but water pressure in overhead rain shower was great. Due to Caribbean air, room always felt slightly damp. This was most notable in the sheets, even though they were silky soft and mattresses and pillows were terrific.Notes on beach -- Easy to get chairs if you get there before 9:00 or 9:30. Palapas require a little more effort. People DO "save" them, in various ways, even though this is against hotel policy (completely unenforced). Sand is wonderful, beach is very clean (raked of seaweed, if any, before dawn...we never saw any on the sand), water a gorgeous color and quite clear. There were some seaweed patches in the water on one or two of the days, nothing you can do about that. Staff roaming the beach serving drinks -- like the rest of the staff -- is lovely and friendly.Notes on food -- The SINGLE WORST meal of my life happened on night #1 at the See & Sea. My only conclusion is that the food had been served, uneaten, collected, and served again...about 5 times over before I got it. I've literally never tasted or touched anything like it. (Yes, I hammered my "crab cake" on the edge of my plate like a Nirvana drummer and made such a loud noise I turned heads.) I spit the "guacamole" out into a napkin...something I haven't done since I was 12. After that, it was extremely difficult to get back on the food train the rest of the trip. We tried, and failed, on a few occasions. (The spaghetti bolognese from room service is normal.) Ultimately had a carb fest, sticking to "safe" foods like bread, pasta, pizza, and boxed cereal because we figured they couldn't mess it up. My friend was adventurous enough to include things that are cooked "fresh" in front of your face (so you can be sure they weren't reserved from days before). With rare exceptions, the fruit and vegetables looked just as untrustworthy. Ultimately, I felt the grounds were 4-star, the friendliness of staff 5-star, the efficiency of staff 3- or 4-star, room comfort 3-star, and food 1-star. I have to give that star because I'm reserving the dreaded 0-star for a trip in which I literally starve to death.
Excellent value, nice people, great drinks, VERY nice rooms. If your into lizard catching or drinking non-stop frozen "majestic" drinks in a beautiful environment you will like this. Great everything as you would expect on a resort. I have a few tips from my experience so gather round for a story kiddies, (cough cough). So.... 1. don't play keno since it is rigged and you WILL most likely lose more money than you would like. 2. if you drink non-bottled water you will probably end up getting sick or in the E.R. same as I. Although I did not drink the water I later found that indulging in fresh sliced fruit means eating contaminated water bacteria or what ever micro critters were crawling inside me soon after. Sliced fruit = washed with contaminated water = breeding ground inside you when eaten = making new friends via parasitic relationship. 3. Every thing is negotiable IF you use US dollars. Tipping is included in the cost of the trip and is not required. Do it anyway! Preferably in $2 bills that you can order at face value from your bank. You can expect even better than expected experiences for going the extra mile (or $2). 4. Oh yeah! try the mamajuanna. If you forget to try some do not worry. The locals will remind you about mamajuanna constantly throughout your stay. If you see "Sammy Carwash" tell him I said hola and jump on the excursion bus with him. (Wise tip: a carwash in the Dominican is not exactly a car wash). Excluding the hospital stay I would definitely go again.
This was our first trip to the Majestic. We stayed Feb. 5 to 12, 2017 at Club Level.Check in was a little confusing. We were not greeted when we walked into the Club Lounge. After a few minutes someone did come over and asked us to sign some forms. We were not offered any food or drink. Our only issue was the butler. We were given a tour of the resort and escorted to our room. We were handed an envelope with some information inside, but he didn't go through it with us. We noticed a name on the envelope, We asked who that was. He then told us that was his name and that he was our Butler. This being our first time he did not offer any services. He didn't ask any likes or dislikes we may have. He didn't mention the jacuzzi. We did ask if he would please make dinner reservations for us at the two restaurants that require them. This is not really butler service, more concierge. Our room was on the third floor on the Ella side of the resort. It was large, comfortable and clean. Plenty of closet space for two people. We faced the new Mirage hotel and did have a small view of the water. It was well stocked every day we were there. Shampoo not good quality. WiFi is spotty. The power in our room was motion activated If there is no movement in the room the power goes down. This made it impossible to charge our phones. Our Butler was going to check if this could be changed but he never got back to us. Club Lounge on the 4th floor Ella side (which we found by making a wrong turn) is great for early morning coffee and late night snack. The food was always fresh and the room itself was very clean.Food and drinks were plentiful. Restaurants all offered a good variety of food. I liked that they were strict about the dress codes.Resort was very well maintained. Grounds are beautiful, there is always someone trimming or cleaning the greenery. Beach was clean. We walked every morning along the water. Club beach area on the Ella side is not as well maintained as the Elle side. Pools are clean. The Club pool is very quiet. There are no floats in the pools. You can bring your own or buy them at the gift shop. You get a beach towel in your room at check in. It can be exchanged for a clean one every day at the Club Pool. You are responsible for the towel and must return them at check out. Service was great especially Kerlin, Mary and Rosaira at the Ella beach bar. They had a smile and heartfelt hello every time I walked by. Maribel in housekeeping did a wonderful job every day. We bought yellow sticky pads with us. If we needed anything in our room (like more toothpaste) we would write it on the pad and leave it on the mirror. This worked out great. No issues with bug or flying insects.
Stayed here first week of March for my Wife's birthday. Grounds were kept very clean and was always very nice. Beaches are also kept very clean. All hotel staff no matter what department would always greet you with a smile and say hello -- everyone seemed very happy. One thing I would like to note is that the beach vendors are very few relatively and not pushy at all. I have vacationed at beach resorts in Mexico and Colombia and the beach vendors at both places were all over the place and were very pushy. That was always very annoying for us and it was very noticeable this was not the case in Punta Cana. We also met a couple walking on the beach asking us about our resort and describing horror stories from their stay at a neighboring resort. After speaking with them, we were definitely reassured we made a good choice with this resort.Restaurants were great and the buffet at Sea & See were better than the other one and had a more "Caribbean feel" being open to the sea breeze etc. There are snacks everywhere, you will not go hungry. All bar tenders were very happy to serve you drinks and they keep them coming no problem. It is nice to give them a few dollars every now and then though. Oh and the booze was definitely not watered down. Overall nice relaxing stay and we would definitely like to return next year!
We absolutely loved this resort. Without being too critical, everything exceeded our expectations. I will say that I would not go to this resort without staying in the Elegance Club. We only went to the Elegance Club pools and beaches. We also took full advantage of the Elegance Club lounges. The beaches were gorgeous. The property was extremely well maintained and beautiful. The staff was wonderful and friendly, despite the language barrier. The rooms were wonderful, spacious and well air-conditioned and the entertainment was over the top. Not only were there nightly shows that were entertaining, there was nightly music and entertainment at the open-air plaza and beach games and activities during the day. We loved that they had top-shelf liquor and the bartenders were all wonderful. The food was decent, but we were not expecting too much in that category. The best part about the food was that it was plentiful and diverse. When eating at the buffet, make sure what you are eating is fully cooked. We actually picked up some chicken strips and fish that were raw in the center. We were very careful about this, but I suppose that this is how several people have gotten food poisoning at the resort. Be sure and try 9 Doors, the Japanese restaurant, it was fabulous! We loved this resort and our stay here, but like I said, book the Elegance Club!
