Our Opinion

One of the best family hotels in Punta Cana. Melia Caribe is a large resort, with a beautiful beach. The resort has very attentive and personable staff that will cater to your needs. They are also notable for their kids club. Those who are impartial to walking would enjoy staying in this resort, as its relatively large size also means distances between one area of the hotel to the other.

Let me start off by saying that my husband and I are in our late 20’s early 30’s we and we’re both extremely chill and laid back so everything that we decided to write below is something we experienced and is our personal opinions and other couples that were in our same age group. The resort was mediocre at best. I’ll start with the negatives and then the positive. We stayed in the Tropical section of the resort for 7 nights and 8 days. I did extensive research and saw and heard that the LEVEL is just the same just they had their own restaurants and top shelf liquor (not big drinkers) plus we don’t mind the kids around. - Rooms were in pretty bad shape... The doors were cracked, the bathroom wall mirror was in shambles, the ceiling from the bathroom looked like it was caving in. The fire alarm was hanging from the hinges, lamps were in terrible shape, room didn’t feel clean at first but once we started leaving tips it was cleaned good. - Hot water was a hit or miss! Sometimes you had it and sometimes you didn’t which is awful cause who wants to take a cold shower? - Restaurants were a hit or miss, if you wanted to go to one it was closed. - The theatre looked a like a joke. Sooo bad compared to other resorts. We went to one show which was a magic show and you had contruction workers working and hammering away! It was downright awful. - The hotel sells like weekend passes to locals so if you’re not looking into mingling with them then find somewhere else to stay. - Day time and night time activities were RARE. We were bored all the time cause we’re not big drinkers so if we didn’t go to a bar to drink then we were bored. We were in bed every night by 10:00pm. They did not have any activities in the pool and no shows or anything. They did have theatre shows but the theatre is sooo small and the contructiom ruined it for us.- no music in the pool only near the bar- Housekeepers and staff do not care if your sleeping. They slam doors, yell to each other outside your door at 7-8am. They mow lawns outside your balcony at the early morning. - The resort is huge and transportation has to take you to everywhere which sometimes took 10 - 15 min but at times you would find nice workers in golf carts and we would tip them. However, get ready to walk a lot. - This is not a cruise, so if you’re looking for someone to come to you and ask if you want drinks then this isn’t the place for you. I heard the LEVEL was the same. - when you check in, the give you a map of the place which is confusing and doesn’t explain where things are and that’s it. You don’t have any staff giving you a tour which can get you lost. - casino was very small (were not big gamblers but we like to see people play) - I didn’t see a nightclub on site I just heard music and saw people dancing near the bar by the lobby. Now for the positive: - The furniture is pretty nice and it looks modern but everything was in bad shape. I was told that these were one of the nicest rooms in all Bávaro resorts (uhh okay?) The mini fridge was stocked and very cold which is a huge plus for us since we like relaxing in our room with cold water available. Our friends were not so lucky, their mini fridge was not getting cold but it wasn’t a big deal to them.- Service is great the people are super humble. - WiFi was good. You have WiFi throughout the entire resort even in your room which I thought was definitely a plus. We did spend like 2 nights without WiFi in our room but it was okay. - food was pretty great. I really liked all the restaurants and buffet food. - never got sick which is a huge plus lol - my husband cannot sleep in the heat and I was worried the hotel room wouldn’t have cold ac but it was great. I would not go back to this resort because the day time and night time activities is something that we really go on vacation for. I felt like this hotel really lacked having this feature. If you’re coming to relax or with your kids and the day time and night time activities aren’t something you that you can participate in or don’t want to do then I would say this is the place for you. I couldn’t wait to go back home because I actually felt homesick which is the first time I’ve ever felt like that on vacation.

Loved it enough to return in Oct and upgrade to The Level! Study hotel maps in advance to have a better idea how to get around. They will give you one at check in and explain some things, but it can still be time consuming to figure out which trolley to get on to go places. Keep your map with you if it is your first will likely need it.

Outstanding service from Eddy Sambo, Juan, Virgilio Sanchez, Nilvio, Francisco (Gabri restaurant). Food was excellent, property is wonderful. Great beach area. We were celebrating a special anniversary, and Eddy and staff went out of their way to make it memorable😊

3rd time is a charm!

Where can i begin, we booked our 3rd trip to punta cana and with no hesitation we booked our family vacation stay @ Melia Tropical for a third time. Checked in was easy and thanks to Sergio who was able to put our family in the same building since we were a family of 4! it was nice to run into Alonzo who we adore sincere as well as Enrique Minaya who took care of us for the rest of week with reservations for dinner @ night. He's an amazing soul and if you get a chance to meet him please make sure you do! This time around we stopped and had cocktails at the square one bar, Josue and the bartender lady(which i can't remember her name) made our night enjoyable and we had lots of laughs with them. At the beach the activities guys were hilarious and made us our stay more joyable at the beach with games , so big shout out to Tony and his teams! Rooms were cleaned and always had enough water and soda in the fridge! Once Again Melia makes things so much easier every time we plan a vacation and we choose to go and stay there! Great staff and please keep up the good work !

Beautiful Resort

After being trapped for 5 days on St Maarten during hurricane Irma, I was evacuated to the Dominican Republic, so I never intended to be here at Melia Caribe Tropical resort. I arrived in quite a sick and tired state after not having running water for 5 days to shower etc. I had never heard of Punta Cana and I knew nothing about the Dominican Republic,I stayed here for 5 days and still don’t know a whole lot, but this to me was the most magnificent and stunning resort I’ve ever been to. It’s difficult to describe the beautiful open areas, the pool is magnificent with it’s swimout bar and music, all the staff were friendly and helpful, my room was magnificent, clean, big comfy bed, peaceful and quiet grounds where peacocks just wander everywhere. Transport around the resort is by little trains which is quite a novel way of getting around. They have entertainment each night, I went to their “Queen tribute” which was great. I want to give a big muchas gracias to senorita Carmen, always helping me with my Espanol, and my friend Yancarlos Guzman in the dining rooms, as well as Naummm in the market gift shop, one of the funniest guys I've ever met. The only downside was at the reception desk as I was checking out, the lady behind the counter became quite rude and dismissive to me, just because I couldn’t understand something she was saying.
