One of the best family hotels in Punta Cana. Melia Caribe is a large resort, with a beautiful beach. The resort has very attentive and personable staff that will cater to your needs. They are also notable for their kids club. Those who are impartial to walking would enjoy staying in this resort, as its relatively large size also means distances between one area of the hotel to the other.
This is the worst hotel I have ever visited. A Group of my family friend visited here . Took 4 hours to check us in and we made reservations prior to arrival. The rooms are fested with roaches. They place me in Level with one bed but there was 3 of us. Took the staff 4 hours after 9 calls to deliver roll out bed . That was delivered with bloody sheets. Once I advised upper management of my concerns . ...They made it seem as if this was my problem . I placed do not distrub sign on my door but seceral times over in the night staff would enter my room witout knocking .. hum. I wonder what that was about. The list can go on and on but I would not want to stop you from visiting.
We had a family reunion at the Melia Caribe (no upgrade) our party consisted of 8 adults and 3 kids. We all had a great time and would recommend. As so many other have mentioned this hotel is pretty big, the grounds are immaculate and beach has white fine sand and clear water. We walked a lot but we don't mind. however, if you don't feel like walking there are trains and golf carts running evry 5-10 mins.The entertainment staff keeps busy.they organize activities from early morning to the end of the day: Yoga, dancing, aerobics, volleyball, workshops,etc.also they're very kind and respectful. Hilda from customer service contacted me ahead of time to ensure our group was taken care of and then again she came to us at check-in.The kids zone is great, highly recommend it. Is clean, organized and well staffed. it offers indoor and outdoor spaces with plenty of room for lots of kids and their parents to hang out when it's just too hot by the beach. They also have 2 pools, which are away form the main pool. I think the only thing they're missing is a kids pool with slides, and water structures.The food at both buffets is pretty good, there's always something different to eat, ambiance is pleasant and service is quick.The rooms are big and comfortable as we have two kids they provided a crib and set up a sofa bed for them. Rooms need to have clothes lines for wet swimsuits, there's nowhere to hang this items.one area I hope the hotel works to imp[rove is on reducing the plastic waste: Cups, straws, water bottles. I was in shock by the amount of plastic being thrown, this is an island and keeping up the use of plastic won't be sustainable. I've seen other properties where they serve you at the bars in reusable plastic cups with no straws. Also, inside the rooms they should provide litre size water bottles instead of the small ones.Thanks Melia Caribe.
I stayed at Melia Caribe for 6 days. I will first start off with the things I enjoyed. Bartenders were always on point and ready to take your order. The hotel itself is really beautiful and has amazing access to the beach. I enjoyed the fact that you could check out equipment for the water, such as the sailboat, snorkeling gear, and kayak. Where the hotel could use some help would probably have to start off with their food. Food was mediocre at best, and needs to be warmed up. Don't know how I feel about eating raw salmon in the dominican humid weather thats been laying out for a couple of hours When your at the beach, you are constantly being asked about whether you want to swim with dolphins which gets annoying. The entertainment show could use some help. The dancers were great, but it was just awkward. You have to make reservations for dinner, This was not told to us beforehand.
We travelled to Melia the first week of May for our destination wedding. There a pros and cons with this resort I will share both. Please make sure to read the bottom where I highlight some real safety concerns. The hotel itself is average, well priced with mediocre food/drink and amazing staff (for the most part), but my experience with my mother and their inability to handle an emergency warrants a poor or worse status.GROUP TRAVELWe had 48 people(20 rooms at the resort for our wedding and were not provide details. ANY comped rooms. My understanding is that many hotels offer this, so do your research. We weren't expecting it, but it would have been nice. We weren't afforded this because many of our guests wanted to stay on the Adults only side and were not provided a quote to book through the group so booked outside.Upon arrival we were put in contact with a wedding coordinator Hilda who arranged a lovely dinner for all of our guests the night before the wedding. She called the day of to tell us the restaurant was closed, which we responded was unacceptable and ultimately she made it work. The food that night was really good, probably the best of the week.thanks Hilda. They charged 3dollars a bag for our Welcome bags to be delivered, not a huge deal, but. at least 4 of 19never made it to the room. We found the resort food to be mediocre (edible at buffet) better not great at restaurants.the GABI Restaurant (Level Restaurant) - food and service was absolutely awful.DrinksFrozen drinks were not frozen ever. For beer they had only Presidente (which we loved) We recommend bringing a YETI to keep your drinks cold as you are served drinks in 8oz plastic cups.CHECK INHORRENDOUS- We had guests on both the Level Adults only and the tropical side. At best it takes 1hr to get checked in. We had guests that waited almost 2 1/2hrs. The LEVEL side is less painful but still unacceptably slow. STAFFThe staff atthe MELIA were amazing. We met Eddie Samba our first day at check-in. He made our stay. He helped with our luggage, ourreservations, drove us around in a goldcart to wherever we neededgo and had the best personality around. Juan and Hector also worked with. Eddie and were great too! We miss him! The grounds were immaculate, well kept and beautiful.KIDS CLUBWONDERFUL! Our boys age 6 and 7 loved it. The we also used babysitting a few evenings which was relatively reasonably priced and convenient. ( in-room)Here is the most important part of my review. It has to do witn staff training and safety as well as customer .service.A few days after our wedding we went to Capri for dinner. My mom started feeling funny shortly after she ate. She vomited. And started getting very itchy.after taking Benadryl her symptoms got worse.I immediately grab the attention of a waiter and then the manager of the restaurant and told him my mother needed to get to a hospital. And she didn't have any known allergies and had eaten seafood her entire life but I could tell something was wrong. She was getting worse. Long story short after waiting 10 minutes I went again to the bar to ask for help, my mother was out of it. My mother can't walk I cried she can barely lift her head. Almost simultaneously my mom lost consciousness. She had gone into anaphalactic shock. She was unresponsive with a low pulse. Finally a waiter picked her up and carried her to wait for a golf cart. She was treated in the urgent care, regained consciousness and is ok. (Thank god-scariest moment of my life)After the situation, I was very upset. I spoke with a gentlemen on the Level Side in guest services and explained to him that the situation was unacceptable, that my mother could have died waiting 15 minutes for help. I was told one thing in response, "well she didn't die."I was appalled my Melia's. response and lack of ownership for their inability to respond to an EMERGENCY.Staff should be trained and they should have a wheelchair available at all restaurants, We also didnt notice any difibulators.
This was our 6th year at Melia and every bit as good as the others. The weather wasn't as good this year but still very enjoyable. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make the trip enjoyable.Wilkins Lopez, Manuel Medina, Hilario Cedano, Ylsa Rosario, Yajaira Jimenez, Luis Salas, Lara De Los Santos from the beach diner as well as Orquidea Henriquez, Yojanny Garcia & Luis from the pool bar are all fantastic people. I musn't forget Porfilio who kept the beach area clean as well as Yoga Instructors Yan Luis Batista & Ismael Ramos. We're already thinking about our next trip.
