One of the best family hotels in Punta Cana. Melia Caribe is a large resort, with a beautiful beach. The resort has very attentive and personable staff that will cater to your needs. They are also notable for their kids club. Those who are impartial to walking would enjoy staying in this resort, as its relatively large size also means distances between one area of the hotel to the other.
The property is beautiful but the customer service was the worse. The staff was rude and even though we paid for services like room service in our package, the staff was rude and tried to not provide.
The beach and pool here are truly as beautiful as they look in pictures, but once you start getting further into the resort, that fades away a bit. The resort grounds and flora are stunning, but the rooms are dated, dirty and in need of maintenance. I would expect a resort that claims to be 5 stars to have: beach side waiters, waiters that pour your water within moments of your arrival (not having to flag them down once youre almost done your first plate- every day), prompt check-in (had to wait until 6:30), a room with everything in order (toilet was busted from the moment we entered the room), and staff that is sweet, doting and courteous (simply put, 95% of them seemed miserable all of the time). Oh ya, we found a dirty rag in the room when we checked in. That was nice.I didn't expect to be blown away by the food, and I wasn't, but it was decent. The Thai and Mediterranean restaurants were great. Michael Anderson at Capri, Washington Martineau at Pagoda, and Miguel at El Guarapo were great servers who were pleasant and made sure we had good dining experiences. One thing we found is that the staff would often say Hola and Buenos dias to one another, and wouldn't speak to us unless spoken to first. We both work or have worked in the hotel industry in true 5 star hotels and know this is not common place. My fiance has been to Mexican 5 star resorts about a dozen times (example: Moon Palace). The service is impeccable compared to our experience in DR, and unless we are desperate for a certain kind of beach in the future, neither of us will go back. And, we'll make sure it's a true 5 star. Melia Caribe Tropical says on their website that they are 5 star, but staff told us that is more of a 'concept'. How can 5 stars be a concept? It is a universal standard – and not one that they come close to touching (frank but true). Paradissus (down the beach, and also owned by Melia) is also a 5 star, but is clearly a notch above. So, we found it very deceiving once we got there to see there is a clear difference between the hotels, yet they are supposed to be of the same calibre.
Back for our 5th time and loved it again. Alex Rijo is the best butler and Santo Perez is the best guy in the beach. We have never been let down by Melia Caribe Tropical. Thank you for another great vacation!
My 2nd time staying in resort we had a wonderful week people that worked there could not do enough for you going back shortly with other couples food was really great good times met wonderful people highly recommended
My husband and I spent a week at this resort from February 2-11, 2017. We are Club Melia members and the trip to this resort was a "perk" for adding to our membership when we were in Puerto Vallarta last year. Our check in was great, but again, we are members so were checked in at the members desk. I read all sorts of reviews on this property before getting there, so I had it in mind to ask for a room near the beach. It seems members rooms are in a different section, so I decided I would go with that and hope for the best. We had a first floor suite that was quite nice. The suite was large and comfortable. We had our own private outside deck with a great view (not of the water, but the grounds on this resort are gorgeous) and we could not see any other people from that spot. It made our room seem very private. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was very nice. The shower is huge and has multiple shower heads. The Jacuzzi bath was wonderful. The resort is indeed huge and my husband and I explored the first few days. It was a lot of walking, but I welcome that as I like to move around when I am at a resort. Plus the grounds are so beautiful, it is a pleasure to walk around...beautiful plants and flowers and lots of birds, turtles and fish. The beach was a 5-8 minute walk, but when it is fabulous weather and the walk is pretty, it was not a big deal to us at all. We spent 2 full days on the beach. The only complaint I have is that there were smokers around and I do not smoke. Then we spent two and one half days by the pool closest to our room. It was a gorgeous pool and there were plenty of chairs and cabanas. We scored a cabana each day! There are activities at the pool that even if you do not participate are entertaining. The staff are right there to get you whatever drink you please. It does feel decadent to order a Mojito at 10:00AM, but oh so fun! We decided to pay for the all inclusive package for both of us. Neither of us are big eaters or drinkers, but just being able to order what you want when you want it is so relaxing. Anyway, I would give the food at this resort a "B." it was not terrible, but it also was not amazing. We ate breakfast and most lunches at the Gabi restaurant as it was quite close to our room. Staff was attentive and friendly. We ate at the Domincan restaurant, the Italian restaurant, the Tai restaurant and the American restaurant while there. We liked the Dominican one the best followed by Gabi. This resort's idea as to what is American food was very entertaining, the biggest hamburger I have ever seen!.. but not necessarily that great. Anyway we did not have a bad meal, but did have some meals that were pretty uninteresting. I am a foodie, so I am kinda critical. I had read other's reviews about this resort, so I did not have unrealistic expectations about the food. It is OK, sometimes good and sometimes not so good. Just my opinion but the desserts were the "not so good" part, however, I rarely eat dessert so no great loss to me. Also they had very weird bagels there, but again, no big deal. The best part about this trip was the attentiveness by the staff. As members there were two gentlemen, Eddie and Rey, who were at our disposal for rides to meals (so we did not have to walk if we did not want to) or helping us with choosing an excursion, or helping us with anything else we might need. They were right there before we even had to call them. They were very, very pleasant and made us feel quite special. In fact on Wednesday we went on an excursion. They arranged for us to get back to our room to find a bubble bath in our Jacuzzi with beautiful flowers floating on top. I do not know how they did it, but the water was hot when we walked in. We both jumped in the tub. What a luxury! We would go back to this resort for sure! Overall this was a great trip. If improvements could have been made, I would have liked the night time entertainment to be a bit better than music out of a machine for someone to sing to (but the singers were good), and I think a few tweaks to the food service could improve things quite a bit. Otherwise the place was clean, GORGEOUS, great pools, great beach, very kind and friendly help and we had a wonderful time.
