Ramon Fulgo in the splash bar was brilliant and gave exceptional service. Thank you Ramon! The rooms were lovely and anything you needed reception would help you with. The pools and waterparks are great and provide plenty of entertainment. The food is also brilliant.
We've just returned from 7 glorious days at Memories Splash. This was our first all-inclusive family vacation and will most certainly return to this resort. The highlights:-Very smooth check in/check out-Super friendly and accommodating staff. All requests were answered quickly and with a smile. :)-We had a family jacuzzi suite and it was a very good size for our family of 5. The partition dividing the kids room was a nice feature. The room was very clean as well-The food was above average, and the Selections buffet was excellent. -The water park is excellent, but my 7-year old son was just below the 1.2 m height requirement and didn't really enjoy the smaller slides. We all enjoyed the wave pool though! -The beach is beautiful! We had no problem getting a chair at any time of day! The walk to the beach is only 10 mins, or less than 5 by trolley. If anyone is worried about the distance to the beach, it's not a deterrent in my opinion. Given the age of our children (9, 7, 7) we spent more time at the pools anyway.-The beach's undertow is mild and not a big concern.-Both pools are a great size, but we enjoyed the "quiet" pool more than the main pool.-We were part of a group and were in buildings 3, 5 or 6. These are the most centrally located and make getting to the restaurants, splash park, etc. quite convenient.-There's a tourist shop next door that offers the same souvenirs as the gift shops, but you to be prepared for the local shopping "experience".-The kids loved the wildlife (ducks, peacocks) especially the cats that live on the resort.-We also loved that the Royalton offered a nightlife, while Memories offered a more quiet family experience. Best of both worlds!A couple of drawbacks:-A few people in our group developed some minor GI upset/traveller's diarrhea. It only lasted a day and didn't really slow anyone down.-Many bathrooms had empty soap dispensers and or missing/defective locks-The printed entertainment schedule wasn't always accurate. We showed up for a few things that had been moved or cancelled. Best to check with the front desk on a daily basis or the TV schedule.Overall, we had an amazing time and would recommend this resort wholeheartedly!
Best vacation yet. Had so much fun and amazing weather. Big shoutout to Horse for making us feel special and welcomed, Jorge for keeping things fun, Lola for her wonderful Zumba and bingo. Also for Pablo , Victor, Yeferson, and Wilfre. Awesome resort definitely visit again!!
Staff at the hotel was fabulous. Very tentative to guest requests. Pool bar bartender Fabio and Lemuel Santana were great! We did the professional photo session. Our photographer Juan "Coochie Coochie"really captured the great moments of our Spring break. Looking forward to returning.
I’m writing this from my balcony on the last night of our stay, forced out of the room by the thick stench of chemicals seeping through the ventilation system as the rooms around us are stripped of paint. The renovations have also left a thick cloud of dust clouding the hallways of Building 7, and we need to cover our children’s faces as we scramble toward the light at the other end.Our choices are bleak - open the door to let in fresh air and hope for the best or pack our five bags and flee to another room at 9 p.m. with our young children. Management makes itself clear - renovations need to happen, and we should understand that it’s impossible for them to do it in a way that would please everyone. We’ve spent the week wandering from bar to bar, restaurant to restaurant. The low-grade drinks are almost impossible to procur, the buffet is a random assortment of great food and uneatable mysteries. The restaurants are among the resort’s most embarrassing features - the menus don’t change, the service is slow when it exists, and the wait can be as long as two hours. When we found a fly literally cooked into the cheese of my daughter’s quesadilla, the waiter shrugged and said that’s what happens when you decide to eat on a patio. The staff was friendly, but also tricky to deal with. The concierges in each building exist primarily to get you to a one and half hour timeshare presentation at the neighbouring property, and persist in pressuring you regardless of your problem. Toilet overflowing? Choking on paint thinner? Time share. The cafes and snack shacks were handy, but more often than not the ice cream machine (and the coffee one as well) was broken and condiments were usually empty by mid-day. The staff in the stores followed you closely to make sure you weren’t stealing, but thought nothing of rounding up your purchase by as much as five dollars and then claiming it as a mistake. We enjoyed the pools - they were well kept and well placed. Getting towels was difficult - one time I was told that in order to get one I’d need to visit the spa for a tour and return with a coupon as proof. Lack of shade was also an issue - the dozen umbrellas at each location were usually reserved for the day by early risers who took the time to toss a towel on the seats on their way to breakfast. The water park was good too - but if you have kids you’ll want to keep a close eye on them because the so-called lifeguards aren’t interested in much and spend most of their time joking with each other and generally ignoring you (which is fine, but worth noting if your kid isn’t a strong swimmer). It’s not that we didn’t like the resort - the grounds are impeccably (obsessively) well kept and the scenery is beautiful. The beach is clean and crisp and the shuttles that whisk you over are frequent (though the walk from our building took just as long as the shuttle). But aside from the buffet, the food was terrible (so were the drinks). We felt we had to fight for everything we wanted while on the resort and were constantly mindful of getting hustled by the staff. It could be that this is just the way it is at an all-inclusive - this was our first. But this experience pretty much guaranteed it will also be our last.
