Adventure in Punta Cana

This was our first trip to the Dominican & Punta Cana. Upon arrival at the airport in Punta Cana, you must have a travel visa ($10 pp) before proceeding to immigrations. You can purchase the visa online prior to your trip. So thankful for that tip as you can only imagine the long line from a plane full of people needing to get one. We breezed thru immigrations and exited the terminal as all the transportation is outside of the airport. Its setup is very similar to the Mexico airport chaos. You will need to stop at your transfer service booth to get your packet then they will call for your ride. It was much quicker than Mexico. Our total time from exiting the plane and on our way to the resort was under 20 minutes. Of course, we travel with only carry-on luggage. It was a 30-minute ride to the resort. Please be aware that both Nickelodeon & Sensatori share the same grounds. Once check-in was completed our butler took us via golf cart to our room. We stayed in the Swank Swim-up in building 2. This room faces towards the beach area. Our butler Ysmaury took outstanding care of us during our week stay. Anything we needed or problem (room keys got deactivated) he addressed the situation immediately and made sure things were perfect for us. I do recommend down loading the app “WhatsApp” so you can communicate with your butler or family back home. We enjoyed breakfast at Sugarcane most mornings. We really liked the fact that they have an adult only room to eat in. Lighthouse is another breakfast option and it is adults only. Choices there are more limited than Sugarcane. Kitchen 23 was a unique dining experience which features a fusion twist on Dominican specialties. Our servers went into detail explaining what & how it is to be eaten. Our favorite place for lunch was Fresco. David & Orlando took great care of us each day at lunch. We did have burger and hot dog on the beach as well. We stopped by Doppio each morning & most evening after dinner for a cappuccino and a piece of cake or pie. I didn’t get the lady name who waited on us each day but she always had a smile on her face. We had pre-dinner cocktails in Vino Vino. It also has a pool table in there as well. Wok Wok had amazing Asian dishes & sushi. We had a dinner on the beach scheduled one evening but it rained prior to our dinner time, so we moved it inside of Lighthouse. Handy and Alexander provided us with awesome service and laughs. We could reserve a beach bed every day during our stay. Dariel the beach butler did an amazing job setting up our spot each day. They do a very good job with cleaning the seaweed that washes up each morning. Its rougher water than we are used to so we didn’t venture out in the ocean too far. The beach area is extremely large and has plenty of chairs. The Aqua Nick & sports hub are located across the street from the resort. You can access both by a pathway that goes under the main highway. You can either walk over or catch a golf cart over there. The golf carts run by about every 5-10 minutes. It’s a great place for kids to burn of some energy. Aqua Bite is located over in this area. They also have a bar there as well. So everyone is happy! We may return with our granddaughters in the near future.

Unforgettable Experience

My family and I visited this hotel for 7 days this past August. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is amazing! The staff goes above and beyond to please their guest! we felt like family!! Specifically the staff at the Vino Vino bar Luis, Eddy, Johanny, Danny & Yordani felt like old friends or family. They spoke to us like they've known us for years and treated us like royalty, they even catered to my kids by making them kid-friendly drinks every sing day!! I cannot express enough how amazing the staff is at this hotel. Everyone from the personal concierge, to the spa, to the bartenders at the pool area, to the housekeeping personnel, to the restaurant employees, EVERYONE here goes the extra mile for their guests! The aqua Nick water park was amazing!! So much fun!!! Will never forget this amazing trip!!

Imperfect - but I recommend it

This place was great. Full stop. If you want to find a land-based alternative to a Disney cruise, this place is worth considering. You will gain a lot of water-space and sand, without feeling crowded. Kids 3-5, maybe up to 8, will enjoy the water park and lazy river. When we were there, the resort was - we were told - near capacity, yet it did not feel full. If they can keep that feeling going, the resort will do well. The food was surprisingly good. If you head to a Dominican name-brand resort expecting 5-stars to be the same as at a well-reviewed Montreal eatery, your expectations are off. With the proper expectation in-mind, the food was pretty darn good. The beach was not a main feature for us. The time which we did spend there (as opposed to the water park) was okay for a Dominican beach. Sandy, wavy... it was a beach. What we did like is the availability of space. The main pool did have the usual business of towel-owned empty chairs, and general crowded-ness. The other areas, which I expect most will go to a theme resort for, did not feel crowded. The rooms were pretty good. Not outstanding, but the one we had worked well for two adults and two six year-old munchkins. We were on the second floor. If we go back, we'll get a ground level swim-out. Generally, I don't like the idea of ground-level swim-out rooms, but if you have kids, this resort will To enjoy the place, you need to have kids in the target age range. That's not to say grandparents won't enjoy the pace of the place - there's a quiet building just for the quiet adult speed - but it's not somewhere to which one should bring a party-hardy single. Overall, we would go there again.

Family vacation

Everything was great. Staff were very friendly and professional. Rooms were super clean. Activities and shows were great. Five star restaurants, food and waiters.if I had to complain about something I wish waterpark had adult slides. I definitely will take my kids again.

Extremely disappointed! Not 5 star quality.

We booked this vacation with 6 families- 23 people in our group. We had 12 adults and 11 kids with ages ranging from 18 months to 7 years old. Our groups checked in separately, which went fine. They gave us our room and towel cards, along with a brochure map of the property and schedule of events for the day. We had a private sliming for each of our families, which I had expected to already be arrange, but this was not mentioned, as well as the spa credit we had in our booking. The first night, we all decided to go to the outdoor dinner party they had. However, for an outdoor event, they had no mosquito torches or anything, so the whole group was welcomed with mosquitos waiting to feed on us. The second night is where our disappointment starts. It was our group dinner birthday celebration at Spacewalker. In particular, were celebrating two birthdays, which we had communicated with the hotel staff prior to our arrival well in advance to arrange a group dinner for our entire group. The concierge staff was not helpful in providing suggestions, as we would have liked to have a character meet and greet, but was told that our 11 kids could not be accommodated for the packages offered. So we decided on a dinner at the Spacewalker, ordering 2 separate cakes for the girls and brang our own decorations and favors, which they said they would arrange for us. However the balloon decorations that we gave them to set up was not done as we had requested. Only one set of balloons was done for the 2 girls, and when we asked about where the rest of the balloons were. Dinner was okay, the food service was slow. They brought out the dinner late and when we were all finally done eating, it took over half an hour for them to clear our tables and bring the cake out, after asking at least 5 times for them to bring the cakes out, which led to very restless kids by the time the cakes finally came. The next night, we were told that we did not have our dinner reservations confirmed. Prior to our arrival, we were informed that we needed to book our dinner in advance for our party being such a big group. So we decided to separately book our dinners in advance for the families. I personally emailed Ana Feliz Elizabeth, who was our designated concierge to book for dinner reservations of a party of 8 of us. After a week of no response and sending follow up for confirmation she finally called to confirm the dinner reservation requests we made. However, when we arrived at the restaurant, we were told that we did not have the reservations we had requested, but another group of 7 in our party was the only part of our group who had reservations. To be clear, this group of 7 did not request reservations prior to arrival, or at any time on property. Anyhow, we were told we could not be accommodated and after 20 minutes back and forth where they kept on asking for a confirmation number that we did not get since Ana confirmed via phone call. They called the head of concierge, Jessy Collado to try to see what happened, but she could not help and we had 4 very restless and hungry kids, so we decided to eat at the buffet. After we sat down at the buffet, we were then told they can accommodate us at the Sicilian restaurant, which was silly because we already had pasta made at the buffet station for the kids who were hungry.Jessy was trying her best to accommodate us for the remaining dinner reservations for our stay, as well as arrange our family sliming for the next day. However there was limited that she could do, as there is a lack of communication all around. At the scheduled Jessy confirmed sliming for 3 of the families, we were told we were not on the list and had to persuade the workers there to add us in by taking our word for it. Fortunately for us, we were able to have that nights’ dinner at Verdello. However we were one of 4 other tables sitting at 5:30pm and was told that they had run out of the special already. Only one person out of our party of 23 was able to order the special for the night. The food arrived lukewarm, but much more on the cold side and was not up to the level of service I had expected. The pizza looked like the only thing that looked like it was freshly made, as it was steaming hot. We all went to the white party on the beach, and had fun, even with the rain.On our second to last day, my husband went back around noon to get sunblock and was surprised to find some workers in our room – who were not the cleaning staff. He did not think anything of it, since they just left as soon as he walked in. Later that afternoon, we went back to our room to wash up at 4pm for our 5:30pm reservations at Wok Wok, but to our surprise, we could not get into our rooms, as our key cards stopped working. It took us half an hour to go track someone down to open the room for us and finally we found cleaning staff, who opened the door for us, without asking us for ID or any questions for that matter. We called front desk and they sent technicians who reprimanded us for keeping the key card next to our cellphones and other credit cards – which was not the case. From the time someone came, it took an hour for them to fix the issue for us. By the time we got to Wok Wok it was 6:30pm and told that we missed our reservation by 10 minutes, since they hold the table for 50 minutes. When I explained the situation, the hostess simply replied, “ well how am I supposed to know you could not get into your room, and would be late for your reservations?” While this situation was clearly out of our control and had no means of communication since there are no phones outside of the rooms, they could not find a solution for us and we ate at the buffet so that our kids could enjoy their last night. At one point when I was speaking to Jessy about what happened, my daughter came and asked if I was okay and asked why I was always talking to someone and not sitting down with them for dinner, clearly sensing the stress I was having with our experience.I have to say that for the adults, this vacation stay was less than satisfying of what I expected from a 5 star resort. It was endless frustration, stress and anxiety to try to stay on top of what should be a relaxing vacation. My husband also experienced some type of fleas bites sleeping on the pull out sofa, which was horrible. Thank goodness it was not bed bugs! At first we had thought it was bad string of mosquito bites but it was not. When we told the management, they did not care. Had we read the reviews prior, we would not have chosen this hotel for our group. One positive of the trip is that the kids enjoyed each other’s company and had a good time with eachother. When we checked out, we spoke with Cristian, who we were told is in charge of the hotel operations. I expressed our disappointment in the level of service and poor hotel management, with the food cuisine being a major surprise for us. The food was much less than par for a five star restaurant property. Understanding that the property is relatively new, they lack communication across the departments and need to improve overall management of the property.
