Our Opinion

The Now Larimar Punta Cana is a resort that is notable for top notch customer service. Regardless of whatever need or concern, the attentive staff are always ready and willing to acknowledge and accommodate the needs of their guests. They're also incredibly personable and remember requests. Great food options to choose from. Many guests recommend eating at the Italian a la carte restaurant. They don't often take reservations, so make sure that you go early to avoid a long wait. There is a great beach area. However, there are days when it gets fairly busy and finding a lounger might be difficult. The pool however, offers a lot more space to lounge.

Great time!

We had a great time at Now! Shout out to isabell, maria, victor, Juan, Martines, yesy, altamare and the entire now entertainment team! If you head done to Punta Cana now will not disappoint!! Front desk group is fantastic as well, great facial at the spa!

Excellent customer service, beach, pool

For the price, this is an excellent choice for Punta Cana. My sister and I just finished a 6-day stay at Now Larimar and we had a great time. Below I'll give you the great, the good and the not-so-good about the resort so you have a full idea what to expect.We had a partial ocean view double room with Preferred Club amenities. We stayed in mid-November for 5 nights and 6 days. We booked through and got a really great deal.EXCELLENT: Staff (!!!!!), beach, cabana rental, pool, dune buggy tour (set up through the hotel)VERY GOOD: Preferred Club amenities, bed comfort, gym, no wristbands, FAIR: Food quality, room quality, wine quality,POOR: towel service, outlets in room, signage throughout the complex, distance from point A to point B within complex. First, let's focus on the EXCELLENT parts of this hotel as there are many and really enhance the value you get for this resort. The staff are superior. They address everyone as "Mi familia" (my family) and go out of their way to enhance the experience for each guest. Phone needs to be fixed? Called and it was fixed instantly. Needed help with transportation to the airport? Done. From the check-in to our dedicated concierge to the beach staff, everyone was excellent. The management at the Now Larimar should feel proud of their current staff as they really give this property an excellent reputation. In particular, I'd like to acknowledge Robinson, Penal, and Carlos from the beach staff. Further, Juan F was a very friendly and helpful concierge. Superman and Babyface were fun in the evening entertainment. We had lots of laughs, the staff suffered through our terrible Spanish-speaking and provided great service.The pool and the beach are excellent. I'd recommend renting a beach cabana if you can as it really makes the experience even better. We rented it for three days and it was worth the expense. Robinson and Penal kept us laughing and hydrated the whole time. There is a Preferred Club beach side and a non-Preferred beach side - honestly, there's not much difference other than the Preferred side is a little quieter. On both sides the beach is fairly quiet and private. Guests from nearby resorts will stroll by and vendors will come by with some wares they are selling, but it's nothing like Mexico or other resorts I've been to.We went on a dune buggy tour on our second day. The Solution Guy (everyone has a nickname for some reason) helped us book it and it was FANTASTIC. It had been raining off an on the day prior and it was muddy on the tour, which was perfect. Don't do the dune buggy tour if you're not prepared to get very dusty or muddy. There were three stops a long the tour - one to see how Mamajuana and Chocolate are made, a stop to swim in a Cenote and one on Macao beach. Overall, this was a highlight of the trip. Fun adventure and a great time with lots of laughs.I am not going to spend a lot of time going through each of the other points one by one. Mostly, if you've stayed at other all-inclusive resorts you'll know what to expect. There is a Decent-priced all-inclusive resorts aren't known for their food. So the food and wine quality were a little bland. If there aren't reservations for restaurants, you need to get there early or prepare to wait 30 minutes. I am reading other reviews about this and I am not sure what people expect to be honest. It comes with the territory. I noticed in some other reviews that some guests didn't feel the level of English spoken by the staff was sufficient. For me, I would never travel to a country where English isn't the native language and expect the staff to be perfectly fluent. I find that expectation absurd. Make an effort, people. Download Google Translate for crying out loud. I personally found the staff very accommodating and fairly fluent in English. And the staff were more than willing to try and translate my terrible Spanish speaking. So I guess if I were to make recommendations to the management for improvement, it would be increase the food and wine quality a bit, add more outlets to the rooms, add some signage so people can navigate a little easier around this huge complex, and increase the tool service (the service ran out of towels two days in a row and one was at noon!) Honestly, everything that is great about Larimar far outweighs the things I would suggest improving. We had an excellent time and the staff, again, were simply fantastic. For the same price point, we'd stay here again, no question.

Pros and cons....but wouldn't go back.

Upgraded to "preferred status" which gives access to a suite upgrade, the preferred pool, preferred outdoor dining area (Castaways) and preferred lounges (top shelf bar and small snack buffets). Personally I find it a little repugnant that we booked a stay at a resort where you are not given access to all amenities unless we paid a surcharge upon arrival. Seems like a cash grab to me. Regardless, I went for the upgrade. The resort is fine. Pool and beach area is nice, yet many of the lounge chairs at the main pool were in disrepair. The rooms and indoor facilities are in need up some TLC. Plenty of visible wear and tear. The staff were all very friendly and eager to please. There is a bit of a language barrier in certain situations. So if you don't speak/understand any Spanish, it can be a bit of an obstacle. One of my main beefs was with the super aggressive pitch they make to join their "vacation club". Sure we've all been subjected to the dreaded sales pitch at all these resorts, However I've never experienced a more aggressive staff in my life. Don't get me wrong, they were all pleasant people. But it was very aggressive, pressured and a bit unprofessional (staff telling you to attend the vacation club breakfast because they get paid extra if you show). What they leave out is that it's a 90 minute presentation! Oh Sure, who doesn't want to spend and hour-and-a-half on their first day of vacation enduring and indoor sales pitch? LOL! Another negative was the food. The buffets were pretty bad. I figured I couldn't go wrong with a burger. Just be careful of the BONE CHIPS!!?? The restaurants were fine. Nothing to write home about though. We have pretty strong stomachs, however by day 3 we were all experiencing some nasty gastric and digestive issues (I'll spear you the nasty details). This summed up the food situation; we joked that the best meal we had all week was the "Wendy's" at the Punta Cana airport on the way home! All-in-all: resort is nice....staff is is lousy. If you choose to go, just pack plenty of Pepto and by all means avoid the dreaded sales pitch.

Amazing Trip with Amazing People!

We stayed at Now Larimar from November 4-11, 2017. We were part of a very large group, there to celebrate a wedding! We were greeted upon arrival and quickly checked in. They did try to pitch us the preferred club but the deal they offered was not worth it! Staff were very nice and not at all pushy about the decline of preferred. Our room was a tropical view room on the 4th floor. The view was not great, just a bulldozed area, some falling down trees, but we didn't really care since we weren't planning to spend a lot of time in our room. I did use the jacuzzi tub which was amazing! We missed room service a couple of times but only because we were napping. The maids did a great job keeping our room cleaned. They did miss restocking our fridge a couple of days, but one phone call to concierge fixed that right away. We rented a Cabana on the beach after I read the reviews here. It was worth every penny! I reserved it ahead of time by contacting hotel and just paid at check in with no issue. We had such an amazing time that we ended up reserving it again for another 2 days! and we got an amazing deal! We had the same servers all 3 days. Miguel Butler, Carlos Livios, and Luis Ramírez were absolutely AMAZING! They made sure we were well taken care of and made our trip the best! They went above and beyond for our group! We even seen them days we didn't reserve the Cabana and they always made sure to keep looking after us! I cannot recommend these guys enough! We ate breakfast several times at the Carnival Buffet, which was good. We also ate dinner once at the buffet. It was average but lots of selection. I ate at the Castaways (preferred club restaurant) for breakfast one morning and found it very similar to main buffet but fewer selections. We also ate at most of the a la carte restaurants for dinner. The mexican restaurant needed no reservation for our large group and we were seated right away. THe appetizers were good. I ordered a flank steak medium well and it was very rare! I simply asked it to be cooked a little longer, which they did without issue. Once cooked, it was tasty! Desserts were very dry cakes. Next night we tried to eat at the Bluewater grill but the waittimes were always way too long and we couldn't get a reservation. We instead went to the french restaurant which was my favourite! THe steak is so delicious but very small portion sizes. I couldve eaten double. THe white wine was so good! The next day we ate at the italian restaurant at the attached Now Garden. You can take a golf cart but it is easily within walking distance. I had the 3 pasta plate. It was okay but I did not enjoy the sauce on the penne. Everyone else's dishes looked great though!. OUr last night we ate at the Bluewater grill and The japanese restaurant. THe grill was average, and not worth the wait in my opinion. I had the rib eye steak which was very fatty but did taste okay. I did love the mozzerella sticks but you only get 2 small pieces. Spice (Japanese place) was great! You do need reservations for this one if you want to sit at the Tapanyaki Show. The show they put on was great and interactive. you eat what they cook which is fried rice, beef, teriyaki chicken, veggies and option of seafood too but I opted out of that. If you do not sit at the show table, you instead will order off the menu. I also enjoyed the coffee and lattes served at the cafe in the main plaza.The resort offers lots of entertainment everywhere but we were happy spending days on the beach. THey do have beach activities daily, and also a pool schedule. The entertainment team provides a daily schedule for each day which they will give you the night before. The different shows in the plaza each night were good. The circus was my favourite. Also The Eclipse Night CLub was lots of fun most nights. There were quite a bit of repairs happening around the resort but they didn't seem to get in the way of anything we had planned. It was very noisy during the day if you were in your room though. All in all it was a great week with lots of friends. The wedding we attended was off property and close to the resort. I would certainly considering returning in the future! If you rent a cabana, make sure you request Miguel Butler, Carlos Livios, and Luis Ramírez!

14 Nights at Now Larimar

I am providing you an absolutely HONEST review of my experience staying at the Now Larimar (Pool view Preferred Club room). Room #1260 and #1164 to be exact. Oct 31/17 - Nov 14/17. Couple of mid 30's travelling with two elderly parents with health issues the first week, and then alone on second. PRO'S :- Westjet were AWESOME as always, and everything went off without a hitch! - Room service is fabulous, HOT, and of decent variety. Menu says soups are served cold, but they can be served hot. - Staff were EXCELLENT with seniors and children!!!- Food overall is very good; Castaway's is excellent for breakfast / lunch (preferred club)- Pools are well maintained, clean, drink service around the pool is excellent. - Grounds are well kept, clean, and well manicured. - Most staff are VERY friendly and will do anything for you. - Beds are the most comfortable we have ever had on a vacation. - There is ALWAYS hot water for a shower / bath. - If something is broken, they are quick to repair it most times. - Ala Cartes are easy to get into despite the no reservation policy (reservation only required for Tapanaky shows. Food is of better quality LATER in the evening.- Nobody appeared to be 'tip hunting'. - Loungers are decent (they replaced them the day we left)- Decent supply of good grade liquor, just be picky, they put the good stuff behind the bottles of the local stuff. - Bell boy service is VERY good, they are quick to direct you to any shopping etc. - Safe works well, is free. - Sliding glass doors are fairly soundproof. - Beach towels are large and in good repair; but run out. - Bathroom amenities are decent, and restocked as needed. - Champagne is decent, red / whites fairly okay. - Heinz ketchup and mayo on site. - Lots of bottled water provided. - Alarm clock in room (24 hour time)- No musty smell in halls, rooms (including ground floor rooms)- Room cleaning very adequate - Drinks in room of adequate variety - Power very reliable - A/C not too cold, not too warm; just right. - Walls and fixtures appear clean. - When you call front desk, room service, maintenance you get an answer. - Proffered club lounge was excellent most of the time. Dery is FANTASTIC. - Elevators worked fine. - Bath towels in good repair. - Preferred club pools POLICED by staff (good job)- Constant maintenance going on around resort.- Ice machine on every floor.- Beer in cans and bottles at preferred quiet pool. - Tips are very much appreciated by all staff; including turn down service.- Wifi is excellent but imessage images are blocked.- Warnes was great on the days that he was there, and he helped seniors tremendously. - Guinesses was fabulous and she could run the resort. - Bar tender that mixes drinks on his head and dances is perfect for his job and yells "I love my job" regularly. - Ladies bringing drinks around the pool are AWESOME and go above and beyond. -Preferred Club was the best money we spent. - Have ZERO guilt tipping $400 USD to staff over 14 days as they truly earned it. CON's:- Rooms are NOT sound proof due to connecting doors (for connecting rooms)- Staff did very little when a romper room style family moved in next door; screaming and fighting all hours of the day and night. - Toilets DO clog if you use toilet paper (advised to put toilet paper into garbage can).- MANY, MANY, MANY bug bites on legs in evenings (itchy for 7 days). - Room cleaning not consistent; often cleaned at 4:00 pm and had to ask 4 times to have this changed and it took a week to have this done. - Lobster dinner on the beach was a total rip off (326 CDN for 4 people) and nobody could eat it (more below). - Weddings would blast the same play list every single night while it mixed in with Spanish Music from another venue (was like listening to two different radio stations at once)- Locals flooded resort for 4 days throwing food around, screaming non stop, having loud public sex on decks, fighting, drunken behavior etc. - Room service staff speak little english; don't know if you are complimenting or correcting them; I felt terrible and confused so I stopped speaking to them and just gave them money. - Some parents were VERY inconsiderate of other guests and allowed their children to run wild and crazy annoying other guests. Being asked what your favorite color was while swimming in the pool was not on my bucket list. - Only one small garbage can in each room. - Loungers would bust when sitting in them (but there got replaced).- Towel game in full force. - Kart of glasses smashed in main pool one evening and not a lot of effort put into making sure the broken glass was out of the pool. - Bug bites on main floor and second floor at night without noticing. - Some bed sheets need replacement due to red stains. - Ocean is dirty with seaweed material EVERYWHERE (not resorts fault) and we even had toilet paper floating in water; went in ocean once the entire 14 days.- People trying to sell you somewhere at pool, beach, lobby, but go away quickly. - Food in the preferred club lounge set out for hours (on cold plates) and was handled often by kids and put back, very unsanitary. - Pool temperatures changed drastically day by day. - Buffet was the same everyday, only went 7 times in 14 days. - TV has minimal English channels, but suffice for basic news. - Tiling work in halls was really loud (but had to be done)- Tiles being cut at 11:45 PM for the new bathroom by quiet pool. - Cats and dog have been fumigated in the area. Saw one cat and staff chased it with a stick. - Pool view, and ocean view rooms have to listen to party non stop. - VERY steep set of stairs (MANY) to get to disco and to come BACK from disco; lots of people needing medical help after a night of drinking and dancing. - Guy trying to buy my passport at the disco. - Buffet service VERY hit or miss. 15 minute wait for water. Sometimes excellent. - Manager of guest services apologized profusely the day before we left about the issues that we had and said that he would make it right when he met us for check out. He was there for check out and saw me, but never approached me. I think he realized it was just too late. - Staff quoting upgrade to master suite costs MUCH higher (when we had a real issue with screaming kids 24/7) than previously quoted well before we even arrived. - Despacito played 38484758 times per day.- Every song played was interrupted by another song started (DJ was all over the place) - Main pool WAY over crowded and the resort was only 50% capacity. - Witnessed SOME staff consuming way too much alcohol on the Dominican holiday weekend. - Blood or red paint on a bed sheet for 3 days. - At times felt bothered in room as the maid would come all different times, as did the drink man, the turn down. - 4 calls within 1 hour from 4 different people about what time we wanted to check out the following day.There, I have provided a run down of OUR experience. It's not a bad spot, it really isn't. If you want to have a fun time for a week it likely will work; if you want a quiet and relaxing vacation, this isn't the place - OR if you do want quiet and relaxing in the evenings on your deck etc, just book a tropical view room that overlooks the cheaper resort and fence (that is littered with garbage on the other side of the fence). We visited one couple's tropical view room which was fine (a tad downgraded than ours) but they suffered a crowing rooster from 4:30 am on. Our staff was greatly disturbed by being surrounded by a family in the room next door who just simply allowed their children to run, scream, thrash around non stop. The language and way the children acted not only in the room but in the preferred quiet pool was VERY unacceptable and these were not locals. At 5:30 am every morning the screaming and fighting would start, and it wouldn't end until at least 10 pm. At one point they even opened their side of the of the connecting door and started knocking on it. We brought this to the attention of staff a few times. 4 days later they approached us wanting to help and produced a 'waiver' at 5 pm poolside offering us access to the secrets during the day for free. We signed the waiver but never visited secrets as it was more of a bother and a great distance from our room. I feel strongly that the staff FAILED to address our displeasure for lack of peace and quiet. We had the screaming kids next door, then one below us who would scream at her mother until she cried. On top of that we had a blasting wedding every darn night in front of our room with the mix of the other entertainment. When we didn't get any help from staff we emailed the resort outlining our issues, the feelings about the lobster dinner, and the fact that a preferred club staff member hit me in the back of the head one night as I exited the elevator and yelled "go build a snowman" (my audio Google Translations app was on and it translated perfectly) and we were told this was all due to 'cultural diversification'. This was when we realized that this just wasn't the place for us. We have traveled all over the Caribbean with more than 17 stays in the past 8 years alone. Maybe we have been spoiled by Cuban Beaches, Mexican respect and quieter resorts. We are just not used to all the BUSY and DRUNK. I do believe a person can have a damn good time here for 7 days, but I wouldn't advise a stay any longer than that. I also wouldn't want to spend my hard earned money to stay here when the hotel is at full capacity; or even at 75% capacity for that matter. We paid $5022 CDN from Halifax NS, Canada for 2 weeks; and I feel we got about $3800 worth of this trip. Families with kids should be placed in blocks together; and I do not think it would be unreasonable to restrict the quiet pool to simply adults only or even 14+. I do believe a lot of repeat guests would flock to the preferred club and quiet pool for just this. We really like kids, but really don't fancy irresponsible parents. Even one night when we returned to our room from supper, the family in question with the wild child children had even been playing out in the halls with toilet paper and it was strung everywhere. Please do not think that we dislike children. I hope my review wont get a standard response from management in 'form fashion' like that we received when we sent our email to them about the issues we were having during the duration of our stay. It's my opinion that raw lobster dinners that are not edible for over $300, screaming and fighting kids non stop disrupting the peace, staff hitting you on the back of the head and telling you to 'go build a snowman' while drunk at work IS NOT cultural diversification. Never again, not for us. Recommend for a 7 day drinking and sun trip? Sure. For a relaxing vacation? No. For the record we travel every November for 2 weeks to a family resort and have always found peace and quiet; just not for a single minute here. I hope this review that I feel is very fair and reasonable helps not only a guest, but the management grow to better serve guests in the future.
