Our Opinion

The Occidental Caribe is a nice little resort for those who are looking for a quiet getaway. Good options for food. The buffet items are a little better in quality, compared to the a la carte items. However, checking out the a la carte items should still be a must, as there are some that offer great food options. The resort is staffed with incredibly attentive staff. If you ever have a problem with your stay, the management team and everyone else will go above and beyond to ensure that your concerns are addressed. A great place to stay in Punta Cana.

1st getaway as a couple

Great food, friendly staff, cleanliness of rooms and hotel was great. Entertainment factor during the day by the pool was lacking or targeted more towards the 'tipsy' crew, but theme nights were incredible! No major complaints. Lot's of smoking in and around the pool-could use some rules around that. Room was great and music at night in the lobby was very nice!

You get what you pay for

Poor food selection for United States visitors. Bones found in food small portions. Drinks weren't frozen. Very limited entertainment. No pool chairs available had to wait for utensils/coffee at breakfast.

Wonderful Vacation

We travelled to the Occidental Caribe from Feb 5 - Feb 12, 2018, with another recently married couple. Going into the trip we were initially worried, after having read many of the reviewed on TA and other websites; namely the negativity surrounding the food and the rooms. However, we were more than pleasantly surprised to see that these reviews are absolutely incorrect. Whoever wrote those negative, *star reviews, clearly went into the trip looking for issues. Remember, it is vacation - enjoy it!First off, we had written to the hotel a week prior asking to be placed near the other couple (as it is a large resort) and we had indicated that this was our honeymoon (did a trip last year but the weather was horrible so we decided to start again). While we did not expect anything to come from the email, we were very surprised and impressed to learn that he had been upgraded from our basic room to a superior oceanview room with a connecting door to the other couple. Not to mention champaign and fruit when we arrived in the room. To make it even better, we received a letter from the hotel manager wishing us the best on our honeymoon. That is true service and we are deeply grateful for the Occidental Caribe going above and beyond. The rooms are great. well designed and clean. One of the days the maid did not refill our fridge, and all it took was one call to have the problem fixed for the rest of the trip. It is not the maids fault - they are not given adequate supplies to fill each and every fridge. Take a look at the carts. We tipped well each day and received excellent service. We had a wonderful view of the ocean. The hotel is gorgeous; very Spanish colonial. The architecture is awe inspiring and the grounds are beautiful. The best part is the close proximity of the pools and the beach to the rooms. The pools are wonderful. We preferred the pool without the swim up bar. The beach is incredible. We walked all around Bavaro beach and our resort seemed to have the best beach. Go in the water, it is incredible. The waves are excellent. We loved the lobby bars (open concept) and especially the saxophone and piano performances. They were amazing. Good service all around. Even on the beach drinks are brought to you.On to the restaurants. The main buffet is OK- breakfast is great, lunch is par, dinner is not bad. However, the specialty restaurants are very good. No problem booking them at all- just go at like 9 am. Don't go at 1pm and expect for your time slot to remain open. Its common sense people. I've read many negative reviews about that. Even at the main buffet, there are lots of options. Food is not as bad as people are saying. Not everyone has a private chef at home. Our fav rest was the Mexican (which you can do for lunch and I highly recommend), followed by fish, Italian, and Dominican. The food is very nice. Tip well as they are working quite hard.All-in-all, we had an excellent trip and we would def go back. One of the nicest grounds and beach I have ever seen.Don't believe all of the reviews. This place is gold for the price.

Winter Break

A very nice resort with a friendly staff, good food and great accommodations! Has everything you would want for an enjoyable week! Tried all but one of the sit down dining offering and enjoyed them all.

Wish We stayed longer

My husband and I stayed here from Jan 5th to Jan 12th. This resort has a warm and friendly ambiance. The room were very comfortable and clean, the food was terrific, not to mention the buffet was absolutely beautiful. The entertainment was good. The beach was beautiful but the water was a bit choppy everyday. Overall our experience at this resort was terrific
