The Ocean Blue Punta Cana is a resort that makes up the Ocean Resort suites in the Punta Cana resort strip. Guests who stay in this resort are guaranteed to have a very pleasant stay. The staff are incredibly accommodating and attentive. Many of the staff members are genuinely concerned with the experience of your stay, and try their best to accommodate your needs. The buffet restaurants are always replenished and the food is always fresh. The a la carte restaurants are fairly good as well. However, the service tends to be a bit slower in these restaurants than others. Great little coffee shop that's available in the resort as well.
4 days u til we see you again! Cannot wait...this will be our third time st OBS. We selected privileged again and hope it is all it was last year. Hope to see all our friends...Marino, Mini-me, Sexy Black and more!See you soon!!! 🌴☀️🌺🍹
Stayed at Ocean Blue and Sand Feb. 10 - 19. This was our fourth trip to this resort with the first being in 2007. Let me start by saying the staff at this resort is the best of anywhere I have stayed. So friendly and they go out of there way to make your vacation the best possible. A few I would like to mention are Marino at the privilege beach, Will our butler, Luis our concierge and Gregory and Sexy Black in the Lobby Bar. What a great bunch of guy's!!As for the resort itself things are not what they were when we first visited in 2007. I think this should be very clear to management as I would guess the resort was only about 50 to 60 percent full. Pool loungers were plentiful which has never been the case in the past when we have visited. This may not be just this resort as one of our tour operators stated that tourism was down this year but the other resorts we walked past looked much busier. The food although not bad is not the same quality as it has been in the past. The service in the Ala Cart Restaurants in most cases was dreadful. They are way understaffed and over worked. Although there are plenty of options I just felt the quality is not as good as is was in the past. The steakhouse steak used to be much better. Italian and Mexican and French just OK. Route 66 bbq meat was very dry. Buffet was decent with many choices. Sensai Japanese was the best. Good show and food was good and plentiful. House wine in the restaurants is terrible and in the last couple of years they have added items to the menu at an up charge. Also you can purchase better wine but you will pay about the same or more as in a US restaurant for a bottle. Drinks are plentiful and they do not go cheap on the pour. If not enough booze for you just ask for more.Rooms very depending on who you talk to. Our room was good with the exception of not having any hot water to shower two of the nights and hit and miss water pressure. Housekeeping was great, room was well cleaned and we always had enough towels. Mini bar was stocked daily.Pools are nice and clean although starting to see a lot of missing tiles in the pools. Surrounding area's are well kept and grounds are beautiful. The beach if where the real problem is with this resort. Although this is a mother nature issue I think the resort needs to do more to fix this. The pictures you see on the resort website are what the beach looked like 10 years ago when we first visited. It looks nothing like that today. the beach continues to erode more and more each year. Last year when we went there were about 6 Geo Tubes in the water and 2 on shore to help stop the erosion. This year there were about 13 tubes in the water and 4 on the shore. The privilege beach area had to be moved this year due to the issue. The tubes do not seem to be stopping the erosion. I think what they need to do is pump sand in from the ocean like they did in Cancun a few years back after one of the hurricanes they had. It has really become an eyesore if you are a beach lover. I have attached pictures to try and give you a good view of the beach. Overall depending on what you are looking for this may or may not be the place for you. We have been coming back for 10 years as we really enjoyed the resort and loved the people working here but this was probably our last visit to this resort as I think it has declined to the point that there are better options. I did hear they are opening a new resort in the Dominican in 2018 that we will give a shot. I am hoping some of staff from this resort make the move to the new one as the staff is what makes this resort.
I first want to give a shout out to some of our favorite staff. Danny on the entertainment team is the best! He is super sweet and funny. He was always making us laugh, and we never knew what he was going to say or do next. He always made a point to come find us and see how our day was going. He is also great with the activities and getting people involved and having fun. Our favorite server is Juan Miguel, who works at the buffet for breakfast & lunch. We came to this same hotel 4 years ago and he remembered us from way back then. He is super sweet and goes above and beyond. One of my favorite things about this hotel is the layout. It is so easy to navigate. Everything is pretty much within walking distance, but they also run trolleys around all the time. The food is also excellent. The buffet has a good variety. In my opinion the best restaurants are the Mexican, Steakhouse, and Japanese. One helpful hint that they didn't really tell us is that for the Japanese restaurant you have to make a reservation. You go to the restaurant at 5:00, it opens at 5:30, and then you can make a reservation for that night. It's a hibachi style show with 4 grills and I think 14 people per grill. It is excellent and delicious, and I would highly recommend it. Also, in my opinion the best shows to go to are the Michael Jackson and the magic/acrobatic shows.I would highly recommend this resort! To anyone we met on our trip who is reading this review, feel free to add me on social media or send me a message on here. Would love to hear from you! I would rate this resort higher but there were no international drinks included so I rated it as four star. However, I would rate food, entertainment and services as four and a half.Over all, we had a great time in this resort and were very satisfied with the staff at reception, our maid, bar and food servers and animation team. All of them were friendly and energetic. This resort is 11 years old and had been partially renovated. The grounds are nicely maintained but if you are in the rooms facing the forest, this shows more nature and is not maintained as the pool side.We arrived to the resort close to midnight and there was no room service available after 10:30. We stayed at building number 9, which was close to the beach and pools. Our room was ready and clean and had the balcony that faced the forest. Since we were at the high floor we could peak at the ocean through the trees. The room was spacious, had two queen size beds, fridge filled with water, soft drinks and two beers. The bathroom was renovated, had a new toilette, two sinks and a jacuzzi. Our room and bathroom were cleaned twice a day, by 4:00 pm and at night. Water pressure was good and air condition worked well. At night we got new towels, flowerz on our beds and little chocolates. This was fantastic.Bernardo, at the pool bar was great. He remembered what I drank on the 2nd day. He was friendly and very helpful. He served you if you tip him or not, and other bar servers at the bach and in the lobby were the same. That is truly amazing. The breakfast buffet (Carey Restaurant) was about five minutes walk from our building. The food selection was big and quality of food was perfect. Our servers were very attentive and after a couple of days they knew us and prepared table for us, knowing what we drank (tea and coffee). Only people with the Privilege membership could eat breakfast at Villa Marina restaurant at the beach. You would have to pay extra $55.00 per person, per day, to join the Privelege class and then you could also stay at buildings#10 or 6 that were the closest to the beach. We ate lunch at the Villa Marina restaurant which was close to the beach. Food was very good, with a limited selection, but sufficient for lunch. Our server was fantastic, pleasant and very efficient. You neve had to wait for the table, despite the resort being so busy.We went to Carey restaurant for dinner but there was an otion to go to a la carte restaurants that you did not have to make a reservation for. However, you had to ait in lone to get in. Mike's Coffee House is amazing, for sure go there to get your coffee. You won't be disappointed. The beach was smaller, on a small hill, but had wave barriers so we could swim well without worrying about waves. They were no pallapas at the beach but many palm trees. There were enough beach chairs. The beach was maintained well and you could walk miles along the beautiful beach, passing by many other resorts. Also the market was there for you to buy things but be prepare to haggle for better prices. Not all prices are better than those in the store. For example we both a really good quality rum (small bottle) for $5.00 in the store and at the market they would not go down from $6.00. At the airport the same bottle cost $10.00.The animation team guys were fantastic, energetic like the Energizer bunny. They entertained during the day (includes zumba and step, dance lessons) and at night. They work long hours and deserve credit for doing a great job all the time. They dance with young and older people which was truly amazing. I have to name these guys because they need to be recognized: William, Superman, Chocolate, Juan, Hugo and Gabriel, the D.J.There was a very special celebration at the Valentine's day. Vows renewal, baloons , trumpet play, cake and champagne for all participants, ending with a romantic dance. This was absolutely fantastic experience.Entertainments in the lobby was great every knight. However, only two nights in the theatre had very good entertainment (Magician and Dominican knight). I believe that entertainments in the theatre should be more professional so I would suggest to improve them.
The Good: The staff overall was excellent and friendly. The drinks are flowing, no strings attached to the free buffet anytime you want to eat, enough entertainment to satisfy, the pool is much better than the pictures depict, the beach is eroded...but there's more than enough room to layout or walk to the resorts next door and check out their beach. The Bad: Regarding rooms, they do have some minor quirks about it: non-HD TV's, water pressure is low or non-existent at times, safe not locking, missing a shower door, pillows are too flat or too puffy, etc. However, to be fair the staff addressed our every request and the room itself wasn't a major factor because we only slept in our rooms and were gone most of the time. Unfortunately, most of the buffet was comparable to a an Old Country Buffet or a Shoney's (middle of road or slightly less) here in the U.S. Sorry, but the food in general in the U.S. is by far more diverse and better than any other country...that's why we have so many obese people. :-)To sum up: For what we paid I would definitely stay here again. Was it the Wynn resort in Vegas? No. But the scenery, pool area, bikinis, tropical setting is as good as it gets. You come here to be outside, not inside.
