The Ocean Blue Punta Cana is a resort that makes up the Ocean Resort suites in the Punta Cana resort strip. Guests who stay in this resort are guaranteed to have a very pleasant stay. The staff are incredibly accommodating and attentive. Many of the staff members are genuinely concerned with the experience of your stay, and try their best to accommodate your needs. The buffet restaurants are always replenished and the food is always fresh. The a la carte restaurants are fairly good as well. However, the service tends to be a bit slower in these restaurants than others. Great little coffee shop that's available in the resort as well.
This place is massive! The rooms are a little outdated but the food is good, the pool is phenomenal and the service was great. They put a lot of alcohol in your drinks and everyone is very helpful (and flirty lol). The Mexican restaurant is probably the best restaurant for dinner (they had others but I liked this the best). They have nightly entertainment like shows (their break dancers are incredible), bowling, a nightclub (that gets good after 12:30 am), entertainment in the lobby (like Karaoke) and a casino. They performed a magic show and it was a snooze but they had a Michael Jackson show that was wonderful. If you don't mind walking then this is the place for you because this property is huge and they have everything. The pool was so big and peaceful and the beach is near but it had wayyyyy too much seaweed which grossed me and other customers out. Overall, I recommend it.
Just returned from a 2-week stay at the Ocean Blue and Sand, had a fab time and gutted to be back in rainy England! Quite a long review but think it covers everything!RoomsLet me start of by saying that for some reason we received a free upgrade to a Privilege room (Room 10110) (not sure why, the people we were travelling with on a separate booking did not receive one). The room was brilliant - spacious, fully stocked mini fridge, separate shower and Jacuzzi bath. Also, the WiFi was really good in the room. The maid was also fantastic, most days our room had been cleaned by 11am and she did a really good job. However, we also got to experience a standard room, thanks to Hurricane Irma (more on that later). Honestly, I would not have been disappointed with this room if it was the original one we got - yes, the furnishing are not as new or high spec but we had no issues with any of the facilities and they did the job. The WiFi was not as strong in this room though.A couple of things to note about the rooms - there are no lifts in the blocks and in the standard rooms you have to step into the bath (normal bath height) to access the shower, if you have any mobility issues this could be problematic.Pools / BeachI'll start with saying the beach here is not great - there are breakers in the sea directly in front of the hotel's beach section and there was a lot of seaweed, but, this is entirely down to Mother Nature not the Hotel who are doing their best with the situation and as we are not beach people anyway, it did not affect our holiday. There are two enormous pools and a separate Jacuzzi here, plenty of space for everyone. Swim up bars at both, where the staff were great. We spent our time around the pool closest to the beach, which is the activity pool and the livelier one. There is also music played at the quieter pool (not party music though) and the sound can carry over to the quieter area, so if you are looking for a true 'quiet' pool where there is no music / children / people splashing around, you won't find it here. The first week we were here, we had to be up at about 6.30 in order to get a parasol as there are not enough when the hotel is closer to capacity and they are needed because it gets very hot! The second week was much quieter and there were still free parasols at 9am. The grounds here are beautiful too - lots of picture-worthy spots!FoodBreakfast - really enjoyed every day, fantastic choice and something for everybody. Have to mention Marcos on the omelette station, who was so friendly and did a fab job.Lunch / Dinner - I personally struggled slightly here but it was more due to the fact that I am not an adventurous eater. Saying that, I did always find something to eat and there was always pasta, rice, pizza etc. available. Jean-Marco was great at the pasta station.Al la Cartes - we only visited the steak house and Route 66, really enjoyed the food at the steak house but caution about Route 66 - we had burgers there twice and both times they were very pink inside. Mike's - this place is amazing!! Great range of hot drinks / frappes / smoothies / alcoholic coffees / snacks. The air conditioning is appreciated too!EntertainmentEntertainment was on the beach in the morning, activity pool in the afternoon and then the lobby / theatre in the evening. The team worked so hard all day and created a great atmosphere. Highlight was the foam party! We didn't watch any of the shows / go to the nightclub so can't comment but there was live music every night in the lobby bar, which had a lively atmosphere and plenty of seating. The bar staff here are really good too. With regards to the market stalls that are there a couple of times a week, yes the sellers can be a bit full on but we found that just saying no thanks and not stopping walking meant we had no problems. The only time we were approached by the Time Share yellow shirts was about a hour before we left.Hurricane IrmaAlso need to mention the hotel's reaction to Irma as we were really impressed. We were scheduled to depart early Thursday but were delayed onsite 24hrs because of the weather. We were also in a ground floor room next to the beach. Tuesday afternoon we were moved to higher room in case of flooding and on the Wednesday the hotel calmly prepared and the restaurants were shut at 8pm. We were provided with a packed breakfast and candles should we lose power. By 9am Thursday morning everything was back up and running, with the exception of the pools (reopened Friday). Whilst Bavaro was not hit directly by Irma, we were very impressed with how the hotel managed the situation. The same can not be said for the Thomson rep however. When we left on the Friday, the hotel was back to normal, no damage sustained. All in all, we really enjoyed our holiday and would return in the future to this hotel.
I stayed on 9/1/17 to 9/5/17 with my wife and two children.I had upgraded to privilege when I arrived for the experience.I stayed at building six overlooking the pool which had awesome views. My room was clean and well kept with a Jacuzzi tub, safe, two queen size beds, balcony, mini fridge stocked with water, liquor, beer, soda and the A/C was nice and cold. The Japanese restaurant and buffet was excellent. Saona island is a must see.The staff at the hotel were always friendly and helpful especially Jose and Juan who went far and beyond to make sure I receive my robe before leaving. Marino at the private beach area always serve you with a smile. Pedro H10 marketing consultant is as honest, Genuine and sincere as you will ever met. That's why I bought into their program even though I own timeshare with holiday Inn. I can't wail to go back such a fabulous place.
I believe in second chances so we booked a family trip at Ocean Blue & Sand. From 2011 to now the resort does look outdated but we did enjoy ourselves. The food was AMAZING for lunch & dinner as per we love typical Dominican food, Saturday was Dominican night which they had a Dominican cake that I wish I could've brought home with me. The food at the Italian restaurant was so good we went two nights in a row because of the service Manuel & Salcedo gave us. The entertainment team were so much fun. We always had fun at the pool near the beach. The beach is not pretty at all. I did not get in, that pipeline looking thing creeped me out so I passed on the beach. As for the workers with the mustard shirts they will try to convince you of a free gift I shut them down once we did our check in. I told him I know it's his job but I know it's for time share I'm not interested. Compared to my first experience which was horrible they definitely made me change my mind.
Hello everyoneIt has been sometime since I posted a review but for this resort I feel it's necessary to share our experience. We were a group of 22 heading to Punta Cana for fun in the sun and good times. We have been to Punta Cana 10 times so I am aware of what to expect in terms of ppl and beach. We have stayed at Bahia, Riu and Paradisus properties in the past however this was our first time at Ocean Blue. Upon arrival check in was quick and easy and we took our luggage to our room and began roaming around the property. The rooms very spacious, clean and equipped with everything you need. The safe was easy to operate my only complaint was the shower it leaked all over the floor. We figured out a way to stop the leaking and did not have to call maintenance. The property itself was the smallest we have been to which was awesome but for those that required assistance they had trams to take you where you needed to go. We navigated through the property easily and never once got lost which was quite different from the Bahia properties. The staff at Ocean Blue were amazing as usual and is exactly why we return every year. Some of the other features of the property was a quaint little coffee shop. You could get your specialty coffee and deserts after dinner and the ambiance was always relaxing and never rushed. There is also a 10 pin bowling alley along with pool tables and a teens club upstairs for the kids to enjoy. There was a restaurant Route 66 we went to our first night and the portion sizes were tiny. The food was good but we left hungry and went to the buffet. In the same courtyard there is a sports bar that we were at every night. It was a ton of fun especially when our entire group was there. Drinks were amazing and the service top notch. There was a casino but we never went and we did go to the lobby for a night at the piano bar which was nice and relaxing. The food at the resort was ok. I'm the furthest from a picky eater but I found it repetitive. It was hot and had a nice variety but repetitive. At the pool there is a restaurant you can eat at that offers pasta, fish, salads, fruits and vegies which was nice but if you felt like a hot dog or burger you could grab them until 6 every day. Now for the negatives... I'm sorry but the beach was the worst we have ever seen. I had read in reviews about the sand bags but you need to see them to really know how they affect the beach. There is very little beach front and I would say a minimum of 12 bags approximately 20 feet long, 4 feet wide and 5 feet in height take up the real estate. I'm unsure what the rationale is behind this but it was disappointing to say the least. Not only was it an eye sore, but the aroma it gave off daily kept us beach volleyball ppl far away and at the pool. The most annoying part of this trip were the vendors. They were the most aggressive will not take no for an answer group of ppl that I have ever encountered. They were allowed to set up in the prime areas guests would be in such as the beach restaurant/washroom and community where the bowling alley etc is. They were completely unavoidable and it honestly became stressful trying to figure out ways to dodge them. Our kids were asked by several of the vendors to buy weed or cocaine. We are there to enjoy a relaxing vacation and to be physically pulled to stands by these ppl was to much and to ask our kids if they wanted drugs was shocking, disgusting and needs to be addressed. Never ever has this happened to us and again is one of the reasons I am writing this review. Why Ocean Blue management allow this to happen is beyond me. I'm not saying they are aware of drug pushing but they will be after reading this review. On a final note I don't understand why we have towel cards. I mean if your towels are lost or stolen you need to pay $25 fee upon checkout. One day the maid came in to clean our room and she took our blue beach towels. Why she would do that is beyond me. We found out from ppl we came with this said this happened to them as well so either bring your own towel from home and lock your towel cards in the safe or you end up stealing towels from other guests to avoid the replacement fee. Ridiculous really. All in all it was a fun trip packed with wonderful memories however I would not recommend this resort to my family and friends for the reasons I mentioned above.
