Our Opinion

The Ocean Sand Punta Cana is a resort that makes up the Ocean Resort suites in the Punta Cana resort strip. Guests who stay in this resort are guaranteed to have a very pleasant stay. The staff are incredibly accommodating and attentive. Many of the staff members are genuinely concerned with the experience of your stay, and try their best to accommodate your needs. The buffet restaurants are always replenished and the food is always fresh. The a la carte restaurants are fairly good as well. However, the service tends to be a bit slower in these restaurants than others. Great little coffee shop that's available in the resort as well.

Overview
The delightful Ocean Sand Resort is an all junior suite resort featuring an impressive nine restaurants (including Route 66), ten bars featuring premium drinks, and a huge array of sports such as bowling and a climbing wall. Connecting rooms are perfect for families, and kids and teens will have a blast at their own clubs within the resort.

Location: On the beach, 45 min to Higuey, 20 min from the airport.

Lovely family vacation

Spent a week here with my husband and two-year-old son.It was a lovely resort, very well maintained and cleaned.I didn't see any of the shows, nor did we drink very much, because we were with our young boy, so I can't really review those things.Pros:Lots of eating choices, with several themed restaurants, so you don't feel like you're eating the same food every night.Kids menu at every restaurant so my son got to eat french fries for every dinner while my husband and I got to eat different things.Quick and friendly service at the restaurants. The pools have a wonderful wade-in feature that basically makes them a kiddie pool (unless you kiddie goes too deep). Supervision required, but in my opinion it was a terrific feature. The food was above average and the buffet was very well done with tons of choices.Free wifi everywhere, with half decent quality in the rooms as well.Cons: Not a lot of shade or umbrellas by the pools and at the beach. People were reserving the best chairs starting at about 6 am. It was nearly impossible to find a good shaded spot. The beach is fairly small and uneven. They are suffering from erosion that seems not to have affected any of the neighboring resorts though. The towel exchange desk was all the way at the beach, not centrally located at all. Some days they did not have any clean towels left at the end of the day, so you have to come back in the morning. (I guess this is only a problem if you want to reserve your pool chairs with towels at 6 am??)The afternoon "animation" by the pool plays extremely loud and obnoxious dance music that is difficult to get away from. Luckily, it is quieter in the morning. On the whole, it was a great choice for our family vacation.

Bad review

Bad service. Rooms were dirty, humidity everywhere, furniture is broken and old. There's small area of Ocean... they have salespeople walking thru the hotel, very annoying. It is not a 5 stars hotel. At least 3.

Great hotel for family vacation

We're just returning from a week of vacation at the Ocean Blue & Sand resort. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a family vacation. The pros definitely outweigh the cons.Pros: The entertainment is awesome. There is always some games or activities organized that everyone can participate in. Chocolate, Ella es, Superman and the rest of the team are fun, very friendly and full of energy. Food - it is really good and you have many different options. The buffet has lots of selections. When you're at the beach, you can go to Villa Marina located right there versus walking back to the restaurant. There are bars all over the resort so you always have access to some good drinks. There are a few restaurants open for dinner which provide you different options. Hotel property - the grounds are beautiful and kept very clean. There are 2 big pools: a quiet one and another one where you can do different activities such as volley ball, water polo... there are a few beds in the water which are great to relax. Both pools have shallow ends where children can play. There are a 3 jacuzzi pools, and a baby pool. Staff - all people we interacted with were very friendly. I recommend having a good amount of single dollar bills and make sure you give tips to the staff, this will go a long way. Their salaries are pretty low and so tips are very much appreciated. Kids club - my 4 year old daughter loved it. Yoanny and Tita were great. They had activities planned each day (coconut and t-shirt paintings, water balloon games, mini-disco, cake decorating, puzzles...). They also have the Strike clubs for the older kids and teenagers. My 11yr old son had a blast there. They have a few pool tables, ping-pong tables, fusball tables, bowling, video games...Cons: beach - unfortunately they had to put huge sand bags in the water to slow down the beach erosion. This ruins a bit the view. However you can walk a few steps to the right and enjoy the beautiful beach there. Rooms - they are a bit outdated. The room was kept clean and everything worked well (AC, fridge) however it would definitely need a bit of work. We were located in bldg 2 which is located right across the buffet restaurant, a short walk to the "downtown area" and a few mins away from the pools and the beach but we didn't mind walking.Excursions: I would recommend buying them with Nelson or el abuelo Eugenio on the beach vs the hotel. Their prices are much better for the exact same excursions. We did 2 hours of horse riding on the beach for $30 per person, 1 hour of snorkeling with a swim at the natural pool for $35 per person, and 4 hours of deep sea fishing (trolling) for $70 per person (beware many get sea-sick).Overall, we had a great week of vacation and will definitely return.

A very pleasant stay

We stayed here for a week in February 2017. The resort was very quiet - I think it was only about half full. We had a very nice room. It was on the third floor of block 5 and overlooked the pool (Room 5309). It was lovely in the early morning sitting on the balcony (not so good in the afternoon with the highly applified music coming from the pool area). We had a bit of a problem with the plumbing in the bathroom, but it was fixed very quickly. The grounds are very pleasant and we enjoyed the walk to the restaurants. A few of the previous reviewers have mentioned the 'welcome breakfast' and the sales pressure from the H10 reps. We had been warned about this, so managed to avoid accepting any of the invitations but it was annoying, as the staff were waiting outside the buffet trying to get customers. Apart from this we were happy with our stay. The beach is not the prettiest - the sandbags are not attractive, but the beach is long and its very enjoyable to walk along the whole stretch of beach past the other hotels. The sand is like silky powder - wonderful! The sun rises above the sea as it is east facing, and its worth getting up and watching the sun rise. The food in the buffet and the restaurants was quite good. The Japanese restaurant was the best - great food, and a very entertaining evening. We only went to one show, and most nights we sat in the hotel entrance bar listening to the music or in the piano bar. I would stay here again.

First all inclusive...not the last!look

The staff really wish your vacation is the best. A lot of vareity in places to eat, the turn down services is very good, and the walk to the beach is past the two pools. The bartenders at the swim up bar will make you feel like you are the only one there, even during the busiest times. Caesar helped me out with my activities scheduling, and Oscar made the buffet meals most pleasurable. Breakfast buffet had a good selection, with plenty of fresh fruit. Make sure you line up early for dinner in the oriental restaurant. Getting up early to reserve an umbrella by the pools is almost a game, but make sure you respect people who got there before you. Leave a towel or bring some t-shirts to mark your spot. Bring lots of Ones for tips, and make sure you slip it to the person you want to reward, as any tips left on the table are pooled with managers taking up to 30% off the top.
