Our Opinion

The Ocean Sand Punta Cana is a resort that makes up the Ocean Resort suites in the Punta Cana resort strip. Guests who stay in this resort are guaranteed to have a very pleasant stay. The staff are incredibly accommodating and attentive. Many of the staff members are genuinely concerned with the experience of your stay, and try their best to accommodate your needs. The buffet restaurants are always replenished and the food is always fresh. The a la carte restaurants are fairly good as well. However, the service tends to be a bit slower in these restaurants than others. Great little coffee shop that's available in the resort as well.

Overview
The delightful Ocean Sand Resort is an all junior suite resort featuring an impressive nine restaurants (including Route 66), ten bars featuring premium drinks, and a huge array of sports such as bowling and a climbing wall. Connecting rooms are perfect for families, and kids and teens will have a blast at their own clubs within the resort.

Location: On the beach, 45 min to Higuey, 20 min from the airport.

Awesome

Great food and nice resort. Entertainment staff were the best I've had on an all inclusive! There were always games and activities going on. Sarah and Papi Chula were the best! I would definitely consider coming back...Mikes coffee was really good as well. The Japanese restaurant was a fun experience

Enjoyable family vacation

We had a great family vacation here. The resort was truly the highlight of the country for us.The room was nice. The bathroom was nice. Comparable to a $200 per night room in flyover country USA. Tip seemed to affect how/when exactly it was cleaned, but maybe I just imagined that. Every day we tipped $5, it was done by 2p and very nicely done.My favorite place to hang out was the reception hall/bar. It was a big open area with lots of nice furniture, table service and a good bar. Their best service happened in this area. They had truly great employees working here. The pools were beautiful. They were a great place to hang out. There were afternoon games, loud music and stuff to participate in or you could relax at the swim up bar or other end of the pool. The only negative was you had to have a towel on a chair with shade by 5a to get a shade chair. I once got 4 shade chairs at 630 ish and came back at 9A to see some big Russians?? literally moving my chairs into the sun so they could move their chairs in the shade. WTH! Guess what.....they didn't wish to negotiate in English about that. We told the hotel and received new towel cards as I had no idea where my towels were and wouldn't steal other towels...:( shade was a challenge everywhere except for the bars! The beach area was our favorite. It was narrow and steep. The sandbags are a bit of an eyesore, but it was really relaxing to find a place to hang out and read or go for walks up and down the beach. There was also a great smaller lunch restaurant there that could not be beat.Food.....the buffet restaurants were amazing. Great fresh food and nice seating. I hate buffet restaurants but these were GREAT. Literally the best cheeseburger I have ever had. Lots of interesting new foods as well as USA favorites to eat.The a la carte restaurants were ok, but you might die before getting a second drink. Seriously. Bar service was slow in all, unless you paid for a premium drink. What crap! The food was ok, but the Mexican one was not Mexican at all. The food and drink were made poorly. I really am not picky at all either. I will eat a cold McDonalds cheeseburger, but never that again. One required pants so it was out. The Japanese place had some weird reservation system that I figured why bother, I lived in Japan...the steak place had a 2 hr wait when we tried to go. The diner was really barbecue, but was just ok.All-inclusive water sports?? Really? They were provided by Pelicano Watersports, who was a separate company on the beach that offered inclusive Hobie Cat sailing, inclusive kayaking and maybe inclusive snorkel gear. The trouble was it was hard to reserve the Hobie Cat. Literally, you could come up at 2P and ask to sail for 30 min and they would tell you to come back tomorrow. I went there ~ 5 times and sailed twice. Had to pay to sail a second time in a single day.....not really ALL inclusive. Especially considering they were renting it out for about 1 hr total on windy days! They were really trying to limit use because it seems the hotel paid them a flat fee regardless of if they rented equipment. Maybe this would have been ok, but it was a beat down Hobie Cat without a jib and missing rudder parts. It was fine, but not if I'm paying for it.Last, avoid any conversation about H10 premium, unless you know exactly what you want. It has miles of negative posts online! It might be ok, but for me it stole 3 hrs roughly of my vacation. Actually, it pissed me off all day long. So, either know you are going to buy a vacation club membership or avoid it, but during a multi-thousand dollar vacation is no time to be hustled.I need to end on a positive note. Mike's Coffee. Truely amazing comfortable coffee shop. Better than Starbucks! Desserts were great too.Advise:Bring an insulated mug or yeti, if you like to drink.Avoid excursions...most are kind of gimmicky and expensive for what you get. Maybe snorkeling would be a must see.Bring multiple swimsuits.Relax with a good book and a drink.

Loved it last time and visiting again this summer

We stayed at this hotel as a couple a few years ago and have been back to the Dominican Republic a number of times at various hotels and have never been disappointed. This year we are bringing our 18 year old daughter and her friend to the DR and because we had such a fantastic time at Ocean Blue and Sand the previous time we chose to come back here again this July/August. This resort has everything. Fantastic staff, great food and drink. Top class entertainment and wow the two pools and beach/sea are a dream. Can't wait to see you all again this summer.

Wasted Money

After arrival we ordered drinks, only to find out all inclusive here means only generic liquor. Next we were told where our room would be. In a building which was as far from the pool as you can get, and that our room was on the backside (so we'd be looking at a fence and a service road). Please take note that they WILL NOT let you check in before 3 pm. After finding out these facts we decided to upgrade to the "Priveledge" program to the tune of $50 per person per night. This benefit was supposed to include multiple benefits. First, they let you believe it will allow you the ability to eat what you want when you want. This is not true. You get ONE meal upgrade. This means if there's a price behind a meal on the menu, you only get one meal that carries a charge. They don't tell you this. If you do order a second upgraded meal believing it's included (because they didn't tell you this trick) don't bother fighting the charge. I ordered a steak due to this situation, didn't eat it because it was like cutting through and chewing gristle, and they still wouldn't take it off the bill! And do not order grilled lobster. It looked like a large barnacle, it was black, and tasted like bad fish. I can tell you from having eaten grilled lobster many times, this IS NOT ok! It was so gross we literally got up and walked out. Food here is sub par at best. We even got the same feedback from other guests when asking where to eat on our first day there. You do get a room upgrade with the Priveledge program, it was comparable to the updated Red Roof Inns I have stayed at, so know that going in. There was rust on the toilet paper holder, mold on the bathroom ceiling tiles, hard water build up on the shower head, rusted and hard water stained hardware on the shower, cracked hardware in the jacuzzi tub, and the seal on the shower door was broken so water was all over the floor each time we showered. The drain on our patio was covered with hair and debris. We were supposed to have bathrobes and slippers, had to ask for them more than once, and they finally arrived on day 4 of our stay. Supposed to have a fruit basket and bottle of wine in the room. The fruit basket (two apples and a few grapes on a plate) arrived on day two, and the wine arrived on day 3. When they brought the wine they walked in our room without knocking. Please note you will only get one bottle. Supposed to be liquor in the mini fridge, that happened on day 3 after asking twice. They will not replace your coffee for the coffee maker, or the sweetener, unless you go find the maid and request it. They claim there is a "private" beach area. In reality we always saw people with the regular wrist bands on in there, that were not asked to leave. The casino is a joke, it's more like a carnival. There is a constant sewage odor by the little shops near reception, and it is worse in the nightclub. Next... the beach. Be prepared for your view to be one of multiple large bags filled with sand, each the size of a small whale. There is also seaweed on the beach, which isn't their fault, but is rarely cleaned from the beach unless it is overly thick. Vendors... there will be outside vendors with tables set up in the resort. Please don't buy from them. You can go, literally, right next door and buy the same goods for half the price. When they say you will have resort credits (such as Expedia led us to believe when we booked through them) what they mean is a coupon for a set amount off of upscale items. For example: massages, bottles of wine, photo shop purchases... So just don't expect it to be a true credit, it's a scam to sell you on more up charges. What was good... The pools are immaculate, as are the grounds. Some items you'll see on the resort are in need of repair, but overall it is pretty and clean. The staff are friendly and entertaining. However we did encounter several rude staff. An example was asking the bartender to wipe the bar off because it was wet, and she threw me a towel, so I could do it myself. Others were just plain rude. But on the whole they were nice people. There is a huge language barrier though, with some barely speaking English. Breakfast was decent. The buffet, and the Italian restaurant had decent food. Note, decent, not good. There are always plenty of chairs, both at the pool and the beach. They have fun activities throughout the day. And if you walk in either direction on the beach, you'll have beautiful views of gorgeous blue water, without having to look at whale sized sandbags covered in algae. I really can't believe I spent $2020.00 on a seven day vacation, and ended up with such a horrible experience. I've travelled extensively, and never have I had an experience this bad. I suppose if all you wanted was to stuff yourself constantly at a buffet, and drink cheap liquor you'd like it. I could continue with the letdowns experienced here, but I've covered the major issues. My hope is to warn others so they don't make the same mistake.
