Our Opinion

A pleasant resort to visit. This resort is suited more for couples and adults who are looking for a quiet and relaxing stay in Punta Cana. The beaches and pools are stunning. There is a particular side that is a bit quieter, making it perfect for guests who want a place to relax away from families. Plenty of a la carte restaurants to choose from. However, the service in these restaurants tend to be a bit slow. Make sure to come early to avoid long waits. There is also entertainment held nightly, so there is never a shortage of things to do.

Overview
Surrounded by soaring coconut palms and beautifully landscaped gardens, this luxurious all-suite adults-only resort offers 364 spacious and beautifully decorated Junior Suites, that were formerly known as the Royal Suites at the Grand Palladium Palace, where you can enjoy all of its upscale facilities. The 5-star service, amenities and fabulous dining are the epitome of luxury.

Location: Directly on the magnificent Playa Bavaro beach, approximately 30 minutes from the Punta Cana airport.

Honeymoon definitely not the best :( need a redo

We stayed here for our honeymoon and this was our first trip to the DR. My review below is pretty detailed and I hope it helps others: This place was "ok" and we did enjoy the adults only section of the resort. In fact I'm convinced to only go adult only in the future. I listed our cons and pros for the resort below also highlighting our excursions. I also would like to state our weather while we were there was not the best and because of this we really were not able to make use of all the amenities the resort had to offer. it was extremely windy (knocking tiles off the roof!!) making it uncomfortable to sit at the beach. (Not the resorts fault by no means) FYI::: Know you are on the Atlantic side so it can be windy and it rains at times. The south part of the DR is much more calmer which is on the Caribbean sea. We were told this weather was unusual for January in the DR So here are my cons and pros for this resort:Pros:1.) Drinks!! Alcohol selection is great. I am a huge vodka drinker and they had Grey goose and also flavored absolute like raspberry. They had many other top shelf options you just need to ask for them. They also pour the drinks very nicely. Bring your own insulated travel mug and they will fill it. Especially, nice if you are going to the beach.2.) Towels: I thought it was great we did not have a towel card so you are not limited to just one towel. (Adults only resort)3.) Grounds: Beautiful and the workers are always out caring for them. They also have peacocks and other birds on the resort which is really nice.4.) Golf carts: Staying at the adult only part you get drivers to take you places which is nice in case you do not want to walk. We did walk a lot and enjoyed it however sometimes you just don't want to. They do have a train that stops at all resorts so you can always take part in that to get you places.5.)When you arrive you are greeted and they ask for you paper reservation at the desk. They then ask you what drink you want and give you a warm towel (smells like rubbing alcohol) to wipe your hands. I thought it was a nice touch and I felt welcomed.6.)Disco (Dancing) is a fun spot it opens at 11pm and goes till 2pm they pour the drinks nice there. I did try to request songs however because of the language barrier he was unable to understand. However it was a great time.7.)Room service was decent and much better then the buffet. it did take a hour though so be prepared to wait. My husband had the burger and fries, I had the pasta with meatless tomato sauce and a chicken quesadilla which was all good.8.) Rooms were clean and modern. They give you bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, bar soap shower cap. There is an umbrella in the closet which comes in handy. They also give you slippers and robes to use (slippers did not fit my husband though) however I thought it was a nice touch. FYI: either bring a bottle opener or ask for one right away as there is not one in your room for the beer they stock in your frig. Recommendation for hotel: maybe have one built on the wall in each room.9.) The private beach was very nice and is adults only. I thought it was very clean.10.) The other guests we met were awesome!!!Cons: 1.) number one turn off:: we were suppose to have a king room and got two full beds instead (REALLY for our honeymoon) ?!? We were told by our butler to push them together?!? We had king kong as our butler and seriously he is a joke. We gave him a tip and others gave him like 10-20 whom we talked too and he really did nothing for any of us. The room I would of paid for an upgrade. I did email them twice asking for a swim-out room and stating this is our honeymoon. We received no response. We were told at the desk they would move us the next day. After three nights of asking we were finally placed in a regular king room. At least a king room! We had no perks of being on our honeymoon. Honestly it was a huge disappointment. In fact we weren't even acknowledged for it. 2.) TOUR do not get talked into the tour!!! it is a trap for there RCI timeshare and a waste of a day. Take the train instead!! The concierge approaches you in your first days when you are just getting settled Garremo is whom we had. He pretends to be your friend and then lies to you telling he would like to take you on a tour and show you around. My husband and I are like " ok great as the resort is huge it would be nice to have a personal tour!" we even planned to give him a generous tip. However, he took us to the club building and then we had breakfast with a sales guy "Anthony Boom" who then took us to a mult-million dollar villa costing 100k a year. To then sit you down and tell you " We know you cant afford this awesome villa but lets get you into something you can afford" It is a very high sales pitch and a waste of one of the only good days we had on our honeymoon. They are extremely pushy and get mad at you when you tell them no. I was so upset after this I really think it is a shame the resort allows these people to be so deceitful. Resort Recommendation:: If you are going to waste someones day then you need to pay for my time and be truthful about what your true attention is. People spend good money to come to your resort not to be bombarded by lies and sale pitches. Lying is disrespectful as well as offensive. I would highly recommend you rethink on how these people present and approach guests in the resort. They should not be presenting it like a tour as it is not. They need a lesson on being truthful. I was not the only guest whom felt this way.3.) FOOD:: I am from Michigan so food here is very good, however I don't classify myself picky either. However the food was nothing like USA we were forewarned before our trip that most all resorts are not so tasteful and bland in the DR. They were clearly correct and very odd combinations ( very mint tasting in chicken pad tai?). My Husband actually was sick almost everyday (7 days). Whatever you do I would recommend not taking any form of anti-diarrhea medication as you need to remove the bad stuff you ate. I took and Highly recommend taking probiotics during your trip. OK back to the food. The buffet restaurants have odd food selections and I had a lot of trouble finding things I like. Things just did not make sense to the placement to the selections. I ate a lot of white rice, fries and tortilla chips. Yes, I lost three pounds and I am tiny person as it is. Fish is decent but boney! the eggs and most items are cold on the buffet. Salad bar is very odd no lettuce to be found but all weird toppings. nacho bar had cheese, chili but no salsa? They do have spices (garlic), olive oil and vinegar so look for them and use them ( I was creative)!!! For the restaurants (al Carte): The hibachi restaurant was the best by far it was entertaining and the food was actually decent. I would of booked there and the Brazilian steak house every night. Make sure you make your reservations early!! Also the al carte restaurants are only open for dinner we didn't know that as it was not explained to us. Also the butter is strange tasting maybe that is why stuff tastes bad? Just drink a lot and you may not mind and know you are not going for the food! Recommendation for the hotel: hire more well rounded cooks. I think I could of showed a thing or two to the cooks. 4.) Not enough loungers by the pool: Make sure you nab a spot by the pool early LIKE 7 am! People reserve them by towels and then never come back it is quite annoying!! The secret pool is great however we could not find spots at that pool either. Recommendation to the hotel: purchase more loungers there is space all around the fake hot tubs that no one uses.5.) Really bad language barrier, I do not speak Spanish at all and I found many people did not know at all what I was talking about in English. I was told this resort had by far one of the worst language barriers. 6.) Random people coming on the site trying to sell you things. I am not sure why the resort allows this? Trying to get you to go outside of the resort to go to there clubs or buy things etc. Some even pose to be part of the resort. 7.) Casino is not what it seems. nobody wins except the house. I talked to other guests who went and said its a waste of time, money. You do however have chances to win against another guest. I would not recommend playing slots or against the house. 8.) I did hear the spa was awesome however we were not able to use it because it was full. The so call hot tubs by the pool well those are not hot tubs they are the same temp as the pool water. I watched numerous people trying to use them. Once they dipped there leg in they were upset and walked away. It would of been nice to be able to partake in a hot tub on the rainy days. The hot tub in your room takes forever to fill and forever to drain so it is not so hot when you get in. Recommendation to the resort:: make the hot tubs by all the pools true hot tubs people will use them especially at night, during rain and colder days. 9.) The room walls are very very thin. We could hear everything going on next door! the furniture is loud as well. recommendation to the resort: making items more stationary in the room like the bed.10.) Wine is very expensive starting at 30 something a bottle and its cheap wine offered from where I am from.11.) People randomly come in your room so make sure to put the do not disturb sign up. They come in for cleaning, restocking the frig, and turn down. However they came in during the day while I was using the restroom, I am not sure why as they quickly left and said they would come back. My room was already restocked and cleaned. Just beware as it is a given, lock your valuables up in the safe.12.) Pillows are very uncomfortable in the king room they are feather pillows so you basically have to fold them over to get somewhat of support. You can always rent a pillow off there pillow menu for a daily charge. The pillows in the two double bed room were much more comfortable. I ended up taking the pillow case off my pillow and placing it on one of the decorate fiber filled pillows which gave me more support.13.) Our first room had a hand full of things broke. Hairdryer was broke. I did try to use it and it sounded bad and overheated. I did get that replaced after waiting a full day. The ac was making a very odd sound, a blub was bad in a lamp, our light on the back porch did not work, the drains were slow, the toilet flusher was not working. We did get all these things fixed however it was on our third day when we moved rooms. I really don't care a light blub doesn't work however when I am getting ready for dinner and the hair dryer doesn't work its kind of annoying or the toilet doesn't flush. Other guests were also complaining things did not work in there rooms. Recommendation for the resort: Have a routine checklist to go through each room to ensure things work properly before guests check-in. Of course things are going to break but it should not be the guest job to have to wait to have things fixed. Tips:: Bring a cheap blow up raft if you can. You can at least use this in or by the pool if you cant get a lounger.Bring a bottle opener for beer in your frigBring a insulated mug for your drinksIn closing we are already planning 2 more trips and it will be a different resort (one with friends and another just ourselves) and because of are overall experience as stated above we will not be returning to this resort or recommending it. As I felt I did not get my moneys worth as I lost a day on the deceitful sales pitch and also how we were treated as newly weds. People only take one honeymoon it should be recognized and honored! Reviews on Excursions we did through the resort: Saona island VIP (Caribbean sea) I highly highly recommend this !!! Awesome and it was beautiful weather compared to our resort weather. It runs on Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's. Limited spots so book right away. Awesome staff with this one. Just know it's all day and when you get off the bus to abroad the boat you will be bombarded by locals trying to sell stuff just pay attention to your guide and you will be fine.Dolphin explorer: I can check this off my bucket list and that's about it. The people are rude and money hungry. They are only worried about getting your picture and then selling it to you for 80 dollars for one swimmer and it doubles and triples if you have more swimmers In your party. I did not purchase the pictures, and the staff were clearly upset. They even tried to bargain with me at 50 dollars, I still said no. They allow no go-pros or any type of cameras. My husband did not do this with me he watched from a far and could take some video/pictures but where they placed him he could barely see me. So just beware!! It is not free style swimming you do a few things with the dolphin. Pet, dance while holding the dolphins fins, hold top fin as the dolphin brings you in, jumps over you, and also brings you in while you hold the flaps. My whole demo was done in Spanish so I could not understand anything. Overall I would not do again.

Royal Suites

Royal suites were very good. we had a swim up room and it was great. We were fortunate to have a balcony and pool side that was in the sun from 9am till 4pm. The pool server was good. The royal gourmet was great, le chanterelle was great! the Italian restaurant wasnt good at all, don't recommend it. definitely recommend staying in the royal suites. pool could of been cleaner but all in all pretty great.

Fantastic place, fantastic people!

Couldn't give this hotel enough stars. We visited here on our honeymoon and the level of service from the minute we stepped in to the resort (which is enormous by the way) has been first class! The room we had was huge and we were greeted with a fruit basket and bottle of champagne. There are a total of 17 restaurants in the resort which I would advise you book in advance ranging from Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian to name a few and every meal we had was delicious! Lots of pools and being in the Royal suites we had access to a private pool! I have to finally say what makes this hotel stand out from others apart from the surroundings is the fantastic staff it has, all efficient and happy in their jobs and we were made to feel like royalty

Returning for fourth time

The resort is slipping - some of the furniture is showing its age and should be replaced or renewed. The house keeping is good, but it used to be great. The maintenance isn't as good as it was as the complex ages. The resort is trying with a new pool and the grounds are fantastic with immaculate landscaping. The room turnover doesn't give them enough time to really catch up with anything including some cleaning is missed. The food is really good but there were a couple of times not so much. It is still one of my favorite places though. The butlers Arcenio,Carlos and Bellboys Tomas and Wandy are great along with Dionisio the front desk manager really took care of us and thanks to Gabina for all the Cappuccinos.
