Not that bad

My husband and I went to this hotel beginning of 2016. We didn't have much expectations, as our travel agent did not really recommend this place...but we decided to go anyway, for under 900 $ it was ok ! Our room was ok, pretty big, with a great balcony right over the pool,(adults only) with a view of the ocean. It could have been cleaner that's for sure. The beach was really nice, with plenty of chairs for all the guests. Food: well, it was actually ok...not wow but ok...not a lot of choices, but that's what you expect when you go to a 3 or 4 star hotel. On the other hand the wine, now that was really bad ! Tried the white yukk tried the red, not better. We ended up buying a few bottles from the ''wine bar'' they have there. No fancy liquors either, so it's either beer or rum with whetever they have. Service at the bar was ok, as it was in the dinning room. We also had access to the restaurant on the pier wich was pretty good, and we could have drinks there starting at 4 or 5. We had paid a little extra for that at it was worth it. There is a pool table to play, but they kind of have you stop really early, and nothing will change their way. Not much else to do at night. There is the club, but only a few people in there each night, so pretty boring. So, we ventured outside the resort, now that was something ! I would not have ventured there alone or with a girl friend, but felt pretty safe with my husband. So there are bars all along the road, where you can have a seat and drink something nicer. BUT, there are prostitues everywhere ! They don't harass you, if your a couple. We met two ladies at the resort that got caught up with two young men...these ladies were trying to be nice, but didn't quite understand what the guys wanted...and the guys followed us out on the street and sat with us for some drinks....when it was time to pay, they thought the ladies were going to pay, well the ladies left us there and were scared, so we had to deal with a bartender telling her these guys were not with us....it was not really fun. So please just be careful who you chose to hang around. These guys and girls are all over the beach during the day, looking for men or women to care for them....We didn't do any excursions while there, we just wanted to relax and take up lots of sun. We travel a lot, and this was ok for the price paid. Do not pay over 900 dollars for this. I also would not take my kids there as they would get bored. Plus way too many old men looking for young girls. That was pretty gross, and I wouldn't want my kids around there.

Boca Chia area/Don Juan Beach Resort

The hotel and beach itself was ok. The surrounding area was pretty sketchy! The beaches on either side was sketchy too and there was quite of bit of garbage. There was a couple mugged and injured while we were there! It wasn't safe in the evening to go off the resort. The manager controls all areas and if you have an issue, it seems like she is the one to see. Even changing your beach towels, the manager is the only person who has the key to get you new ones. No one could help pass the information to get even face towels. The manager tried very hard to be helpful and she was, but one person cannot do it all! The water was difficult to control sometimes, sometimes we didn't even have water at all for an hour or two, the room phones did not ever work the two weeks while we were there. The electricity went off daily but just for a minute, our air conditioner leaked water and was fixed a couple of times, etc. We had the superior adult room and we were suppose to have wifi in the rooms, (NO wifi), we were suppose to have water, beer and pop in our fridge, (we usually had to ask for it but didn't always get it!) At the beach, you were frequently harassed by vendors. The food is passable but not much of a variety. The bartenders and waiters at the adult section were usually helpful and worked hard. The cooks were very nice too. The two a la Carte restaurants were ok but not enough to return for an encore meal. The evening entertainment was awful and repetitive! Unless there is some changes done, I wouldn't recommend this place.

I stayed at this resort in January 2017,the food was terrible,my lights in the hotel would go on and off. Their was hot water but i had to let it run for 30 minuets. Security is beefed up i really felt safe until they all started haradsing me everytime i left my room. I need a refund.

Holiday visit

Booked in for 4 weeks holiday from U.K. We were given VIP status and taken to our room. Room was on top floor, socket on wall was hanging off but the guy has a screwdriver on him and fixed it. No view no balcony we opened the curtains and looked out on concrete stairs so everyone could look straight in the room. Next morning we went to reception and asked to be moved. We paid extra to be moved as we said we could not stay in the room for 4 weeks. The room we moved to was very nice but the mini bar was never filled up. We only found out on the second to last day that it should have been filled every day. We were the only British guests in the hotel and the staff could speak very little English. The food was very repetitive i.e. Vegetable soup and chicken every day. Also food was not hot. Constant pressure from pedlars on the beach. The bars kept running out of drinks. They put an ashtray on the balcony then try to charge you 100 dollars for smoking on the balcony (crazy) one customer relations person said it was ok to smoke on the balcony and another said we can't. One female receptionist was very rude & we were not given any info or paperwork on arrival so did not know about other bars or restaurants until the last week of our holiday. On the positive we had excellent service from Victor, Francisco & Mama in the restaurant area. The tour operator Maria on the beach was very professional. The beach was nice and the sea very safe for children.
