Scuba divers also flock here for the professional programs, inclusive dive packages, and proximity to dive sites. Other pluses include the private pier for watersports, weekly shuttle to the shopping areas of Santo Domingo as well as a visit to the charming historical area of the Colonial City.

Disappointing experience

We arrived to be dropped on the street. We had to wheel our luggage about two blocks to the resort. We had been booked into a superior room. The room was on the main level. It had a double bed, small bathroom and a very loud ceiling fan. The view from the bedroom looked at a wall with junk in between the buildings. Not happy with the room we went to the front desk to request a better room. After paying an additional $150.00 US we were taken to one of the captain rooms. It was a beautiful room, ocean view and on the 4th floor. Agreeing exercise is good for you we accepted the room. We had our meeting with our representative and asked about the coloured wrist bands. He was not sure what they meant, so after our briefing we went back to the lobby desk. We were given a gold bracelet which then allowed access to the "adult only" section, but it did not offer the full benefits of a black band. That would have cost an additional $10.00 dollars/day per couple. We spent our time on the beach on the adult only section. Very nice beach, good bartender, Daniel, but the beach vendors became very tiring quickly. Even when you removed yourself from the beach front they sought you out. Food was not very good, but that is not necessarily the resorts fault. Some people who think all inclusive means hoarding food is acceptable were terrible. We saw plates of fresh fruit being heaped full and then saw half of the plate being sent to the kitchen as waste later on. The white wine is terrible. Cannot comment on the red as I do not drink red. The pool bar by the buffet had terrible bartenders who did not know how to mix drinks. Exchanging pool towels was always a shot at the dice as they were often out. The rooms were cleaned daily. Staff are all very hard working with some doing more than one job. The tours that are offered were very nice, but they were very long days the two we took. Overall we would hesitate to recommend the resort to anyone.

Stay away from it !!!

If you like hookers and drugs this is the resort for you. You can find them on every corner of the resort The food in the resort is awful and it's the thing for breakfast lunch and supper everyday. The only good thing about the resort is clean rooms and nice beach.

1st all inclusive resort & loved it!

*This pros and cons list is based on a NO adults only package, Captain pool view room and silver wristband - ALSO our very 1st time at an all inclusive resort*PROS:- channel 133 is the only English Channel on TV we could find (FX channel)- US dollars is the #1 currency at the resort-chiconoa  fruit I love- food is delicious especially the beef and pork- as well as their fruit drinks and alcohol drinks are very strong- wifi is $5US a day but free if you stay in the lobby- the Captain room with pool side view: it has AC, ceiling fan and balcony (although no smoking allowed on balcony)- bathroom & bedroom (shower only, no tub) in great condition  & clean (2 queen beds)-located right on the beach-highly recommend bringing US dollars instead of domincan pesos- Captain room has a safety deposit box they charge $3 a DAY U.S but you must put down a $50 deposit which you get back once you leave- locals come on beach to sell local food & clothing such as ice cream, bread that looks like Naan, etc- beach is perfect for families with kids, really shallow water, locals also sell floating items (I.e tube, animal floats, etc)- fishing charter & banana boat rides on the beach ($1500 DRP for banana boat)- the resort offers lots of excursions- alcohol drinks are strong and delicious- ***BRING MORE U.S DOLLARS!**** no matter what resort you go to and u.s prepaid visa card- EXCURSIONS through air transat is a lot cheaper then what is offered on the beach or resort but we only did the Sanoa Island excursion & we heard from friends the other excursions were not good/fun or waste of money.- Captain poolside view room is nicer but not quiet- the cheapest banana boat ride we could get was  $1500 DRP ($32.29 US) for 2 adults. They took us out to an "island" and tour out on the ocean to see the other resorts. Spectacular views!! They will also videotape your experience! It was a lot of fun! (CON: the guy who videotaped for us using MY OWN camera demanded money and kept saying good video when the video was not that great. Very rude)- hotel room is clean everyday!-FREE WIFI IN LOBBY ONLY- I brought small gift bags filled with toiletries items (toothbrush, hair brush, shaving razors, mini shampoo, chocolate, etc) & the employees loved it! We came back to our hotel room always clean, they left flowers, beer cans, water & Pepsi bottles in our mini fridge. I truly love and enjoy their service! Super lovely, kind woman!-gift shop is small but good! Great for souvenirs, kinda pricy- resort staff are super friendly and speak English wellCONS:chicken isn't the greatest- your mini fridge isn't restocked very good but ours was restock everyday w/ Pepsi, beer cans & water bottles due to us giving small gift bags of personal toiletries. (Definitely helped)- not a private beach, locals come to beach alot- alcohol drinks are inconsistent: 1 drink will be super strong, another drink will not be- EXCURSION: the video from the Sanoa Island DO NOT PAY more than $1500 DRP & DO NOT PAY at the Sanoa Island. Our friends almost got ripped off $2500 DRP for the video & they also paid $1000 DRP at the island once the cameraman gave them the receipt. - don juan beach resort replay the same songs each and every day/night.- poolside view rooms are NOT quiet most nights. Music is on loud volume from 930pm to 11pm. Recommend packing ear plugs!- not recommended to wear heels walking from room to lobby- not enough beach chairs for everyone you must get up early & put towels on chairs to reserve your spot- the restaurant is not on time on opening! Twice during my stay it opened 10-15mns past. Not great for excursions- SHOWER: water pressure isn't strong but it's good enough & hot water doesn't last long - pool is really cold, rather be in the ocean-no games room but has a ping pong table, dominos, bicycles to use- locals come and go to the beach- locals constantly bug you to buy what they are selling but will leave you alone if you just say no- only 1 main bar, there is another at the a la carte resturant but not included (obviously) - chicken is very dry- scuba diving is $390 US - you have to pay to activate landline phone in your room if you want to call reception- air transat spokeperson says the Saona island bus ride is 1 hr long it's actually 2.5 hrs long (it was worth it)- when sitting in the speedboat sit in the front, not the back you will get soaked!-Sanoa island package DO NOT PAY for snorkling it was NOT worth the money you don't see fish or anything, you just see the bottom of the ocean.- colors of wristbands: silver -standard, gold - adults only resort section & can go anywhere, green -? & black - you can be staying at the Captain pool view room but get adults only braclet & can go anywhere. (You can upgrade to a different color at extra cost)- for the Saona island excursion, you have to meet in the lobby at 720am, but the breakfast wasn't ready until 710am. The resort employees are not on time for opening. We got to the buffet by 645am, grabbed our food & ate fast.OVERALL: my husband and I had a lot of fun! I find that the people make the fun of the resort experience! Be positive! Thank you so much Don Juan for the amazing/fun experience! We truly enjoyed our stay!

Just as I expected

We had a beach front room---definitely worth the extra money. I did have to go and point out to them that I had paid for beach front. They first put us in a pool view room which was fine, but beach front much nicer!!

small and pleasant

This was my second trip to this hotel. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. its small and definitely not luxury. if you're not high maintenance, this is an affordable and good place to stay. the staff is super friendly and nice. Ana Miladys, the head lady at housekeeping was especially accomodating with our big group (we were there for my wedding). The rooms were always clean. The ocean view was beautiful and the best I've had in all of the caribbean countries and hotels I've visited. Sadly, the beach was full of debris this time because of hurricane matthew. I do wish the hotel had more dining options. Both times i went there was only the buffet available. the saving grace was that the food was always fantastic. if you're there on a saturday, be sure to have some Sanchocho and white rice. I also want to point out that Omar, the manager, was extremely helpful with our large group. my entire family was happy with our hotel experience at the Don Juan.
