Overview
With its beautiful beach, calm reef-protected waters, and spacious Captain's Club Rooms, the Don Juan is a great choice for families. Scuba divers also flock here for the professional programs, inclusive dive packages, and proximity to dive sites. Other pluses include the private pier for watersports, weekly shuttle to the shopping areas of Santo Domingo as well as a visit to the charming historical area of the Colonial City.

Location: Beachfront, 90 min from La Romana airport, 45 min to Santo Domingo, 3 hrs to Punta Cana airport.

Always enjoyable!

This was our second stay at this resort in the last year and we enjoyed ourselves once again. The Animation team here is great, outgoing and friendly. Restaurant staff was helpful and well as the bartenders. Once problem we had was with the Assistant Manger, I think she is Russian? Dark Hair? She was quite rude and not friendly to our group at all. With such a great staff it is disappointing to see a rude manager.

Don Juan - Feb 22 - Mar 1/17 - excellent

We stayed on the adult only side, was very peaceful and quiet, no kids splashing and yelling - plenty of food and plenty of selection, hotel was clean - grounds was clean - waitreses were pleasant and polite - bar tenders were great and efficient - baby george and lee took care of us by the pool, i think it was a great holiday - will recommend but wont go back, sour from the long ride from punta cana, fridge was never restocked, wasnt stocked to start with

Nice cheap price vacation

Good place for people with low budget, food is okay, a lot of excursion to do but outside of the resort, dominican are going there the week end and they are always asking you to buy something on the beach, better stay at the small pool of the resort, not going there next time but for 1st trip its ok

You get what you pay for. If you're willing to upgrade. Even then its a stretch.

We were just at Don Juan two weeks ago. I was so nervous after booking this hotel due to all of the negative experiences on here. From past experience a lot of reviews on Trip Advisor are a bit dramatic. However a lot of them were correct. Here is our unfiltered experience. When we checked in, it was 9:30pm Dominican time. I had asked for the Captains Suite, after 13 hours of travelling, I wanted to be in a nice room. The front desk guy assured me the room we were going to be in was better. As we were led to our first room. (Spoiler - we changed rooms) It was on the 6th floor, no elevator. That's fun - at least the drinks are so small we were never more than lightly buzzed. After seeing the first room, 6th floor, no balcony, view of the courtyard, surrounded by 3 other buildings. You want sunlight? Look up. After the gentleman brought my bag up, we were a bit disorientated because the room was so dark and there was no deck - still trying to make the best of it. I took my time settling and grabbing my wallet to tip said bag man. In the time being, me grabbing my tip, he had hocked a loogie in our sink. Can't make that up. Our first romantic vacation away. That was fun. We suffered this room for 2 days because we didn't want to be 'those people' but we paid a lot of money, and it took us so long to get there, we wanted a balcony. No one at the resort uses their balconies - if only they knew how lucky they were.To upgrade to the Captains Suite, my boyfriend spent 25 minutes arguing with the front desk - they were trying to charge us 45 USD each, per night in the new room. We eventually got them to 45 USD flat for the 3 additional nights. The room was so much better! Even though the air conditioner sounded like a cow in labor, we spent our time on the deck or asleep.Travelling this far (yes its a 2.5 hour bus ride from the airport - pack snacks, or better yet, stay in Punta Cana) we wanted to just lay on the beach and relax. The beach is beautiful, the sand is beautiful and its all so close to the resort. However. We spent most of our days by the pool. Which is annoying, because we have pools in Canada. The beach bombards you with vendors who don't leave you alone - call at you like you're a dog - they don't care if you're reading, sleeping or anything, they will still approach you for a massage or useless souvenirs, so we migrated to the pool the remaining 5 days of our trip. If you have food allergies, or any intolerance for foods, stay away from this resort. I hate when people say that, but they DO NOT LABEL any of the food at all three meals, luckily our dietary needs are not high maintenance so we did not die trying any of the mysterious food. This also is not the place to stay if you are a group of young girls looking for a fun tropical vacation, stay in Punta Cana. Hardly anyone visiting speaks English, its hard to make friends. My advice is, if you are reading this and have already booked your stay here. Stand your ground for a good room, bring snacks for the LONG bus ride, bring a big cup for drinks at the bar, don't over tip the housekeepers (the service does not change), book lots of excursions to get yourself off the property and the little gift shop at the end of the road is the best place to get great deals on all local stuff!
