Casa Marina Reef Resort
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
I just got back from this hotel and realized that before I left, I read the reviews and it did not do the place justice. Let's start by the location. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport in the middle of the Sosua city and the beautiful ocean. So you get the best of both worlds. as soon as you get out, you are steps away from restaurants, a baseball field if you want to enjoy that, bars, clubs, stores, currency exchanges, excursion places. All cater to western and local customers in food, language and music. The resort itself is stunning. About 4 well kept pools, 3 jacuzzis that overlook the ocean, the buffet restaurant where you can eat while enjoying the waves and bars in every corner. Also, one of the jacuzzi's is 24/7 so you are free to go there after a night of partying or enjoy the swim under the moon. The beach itself is also very clean and beautiful. Right next to it are free services of kayaking and buggy boarding If you are going all inclusive. The pools also have music and daily entertainments, basketball net and volleyball net and are huge. The on resort disco on the weekends is a lot of fun!The food always has enough choices for you to switch everyday. Yummy ice creams during lunches and varied dishes during dinners. You also get coupons for 6 A la Carte dinners if interested. The Italian was my favorite.Rooms are kept clean and the whole resort over all is kept impeccably. There are renovations being done in one of the buildings but you hardly hear them and is a good signs that they take care of the place. I, once clogged my toilet, the service man was at my door in less than 5 minutes to fix it without hesitation. The entertainment team and service overall deserves a 5 star If not more. Everyone from bars, Security, serving and the entertainment is constantly making sure you're okay and want t help you. Smiles all over the place and ready to answer your questions any time. You can see the hard work put into the entertainment every night. Isaac from the entertainment team is one of the jolliest and happiest person you'll ever meet. Where ever he goes, he's making people laugh, will join you for a meal if you have questions and will answer your questions about the city, where to go and what to try. His English is very good and energy just amazing. In the entertainment pieces, he was always improvising and making everyone laugh. Make sure to see him when you're there. About the city, what everyone said is true. The city is sort of a red light district which makes it more interesting to experience a different culture. It in no way makes it unsafe or inappropriate. Whatever is inappropriate only happens behind close doors that we don't see. When you walk outside in the night time you will see a lot of working girls and they are sweet as hell. Every time I passed by the women, they smile, said hi and did their own thing. It also brings in a lot of American and foreigner tourists and helps because many locals speak English, restaurants offer Western food and are owned by Western owners. And makes the party life really fun at night. Just show respect and you'll get it back. Don't judge and have a good time, people are extremely nice there and this is coming from a woman.Nearby places I highly recommend:1) Sosua beach is walking distance and is stunning. Lots of restaurants, shops, services and entertainment to choose from. Heard a really awesome local band there.2) Bon's ice cream, Bailee's restaurant and Blue Ice disco are all really fun.3) Puerto Plata city is not far away and is interesting If you want to get away from the tourist-y stuff and really immerse into the culture. The mountain view is beautiful and the main square in the city make is a cool hangout. There's a new stadium built by the beach which has a beautiful castle alongside. Definitely a visit I'd recommend.4) Cabarete. Probably my favorite place in Dominican Republic. Me being a big of music, beaches and food love that it is all available to enjoy at the same time. It is a popular place for surfers hence has a stunning beach lined with restaurants and bars that offer fresh cuisine and then turn into a beach party at night.Casa Marina Reef Resort is a must! I will be returning too. The service, tidiness, entertainment and whole ambience of being surrounded by the ocean, good food, pools, music and lovely people will make you love it.The only downsides I can think of that can easily be ignored: Did not love the Mexican A La Carte too much and bars close early by 1 am.
Just got back from 2 weeks at the Casa Marina. Check in was fast with no issues. We were given room 2653 it is dated but in decent shape with an ocean view as a bonus. The food at the resort was average and you will never go hungry. We ate mostly at the buffet and didn't try any specialty restaurants, we would just go into town for a change if we wanted. The pools and grounds are kept in good shape by the hard working grounds keepers. Most of the wait staff at this resort don't seem to be very friendly, it seems that you being there is a great inconvenience to them and their job. A little friendly interaction with your guests would go along way. The bar tenders were good with no long line ups. Great house keeper you can tell she takes pride in her work. They have just started to renovate building M all 3 floors. There was a little noise around the pool but not bad enough to disturb us. We went into the town of Sosua quite a bit and had no issues but found it to be a bit unnerving at night with lots of people and the "Working Girls" hanging out .We booked a couple tours through Mels tours across the street and also hired a local taxi driver Jose for a day trip to Santiago. We found him through the couple that own the Jolly Rancher a Canadian bar in town, a great place for a cold Presidente and some comfort food a must stop. Overall a good vacation if you can get it at a decent price. We would return to this resort but it wouldn't be our first choice.
Amongst the best trips of my life. It wasn't the resort itself that made this trip memorable and so amazing. It was the staff, and certain ones In particular. They were friendly fun and entertaining as well as talented. A special shout out to 4 specific people who made the trip very incredible.Rossy who was an amazing dancer in the showNeftali who was another amazing dancer and encouraged me to go to the show Yarilda who told me where to get the best ice cream in SosuaIsaac Balbuena who was really energetic and fun to be around on the resort and introduced me to many other interesting hotel staff. Thanks to everyone else on the staff who made my trip so great!!
Reception staff was unprofessional and not sure what to do.Also foreign exchange place in his hotel is everything except place to exchange money-so unprofessional.Room service was ok but late every day usually time when you want to take shower.Staff speak only Spanish which is also a problem.
To all the people who wrote nasty reviews-get real! The only thing missing for us was a gym but definitely not a deal breaker. We have been to Cuba Jamaica and DR-this resort was a pleasant surprise. Food, beach and rooms were very good. Excellent location-only minutes from airport and walking distance to town. No problem with staff at all so if you have an opportunity to stay at a great price then go for it!
