Casa Marina Reef Resort

We always look at these reviews with a open mind and not usually negative but this need to be said! The View is out of this world looks like heaven even if it rains for most of the time, also a storm that wash away the beach. The only down side was the staff give the impression that they where indifferent to our stay in there resort . I smile goes a long way in this type of Business. Mgt need to address this issue with some training. To our opinion this resort could be a 4 star if this issue is resolved we definitely would rate this Resort a 3 Star not more.

Nice vacation!

I loved my stay in this hotel! I went on vacation with no expectation and was really pleased with this place. First of all I loved it's very beautiful seaside- natural reefs and sand beach. Then I loved the food! Plenty of fruits and vegetables, fish and nice deserts. I didn't even go to the a la cart restaurants- no need. The room was good, always very clean, my bed was comfy. Good entertainment team! Nice dancers! And everybody was friendly! I don't know, may be I am very easy to be pleased, but for me it was a great vacation.

Beautiful setting but needs work.

Went for a week at New Years 2016-2017Pros: Beautiful setting. Two nice beaches, three tubs by the ocean, nice landscaping throughout. Room was clean, recent paint job and updated(not bathroom see below). Three nice big pools. Breakfast good and had variety. Buffet areas looked clean. New Years Party fun and lots of fireworks. Air Transat BBQ very nice and food good. Beautiful sunsets. Lots of beach chairs throufhout resort.Cons: Staff very unfriendly especially bar staff. Looked pissed off all the time. Long waits for drinks.The two times I approached the animation staff to ask a question they were very rude and dismissive. Food very bland. Salad bar very limited, consisting of lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber and sometimes carrots. Buffet not great.Had upset stomach and diahrrea on two occasions. Speciaty restaurants food very bland. Seafood restaurant's food bad and was sick after eating there. First beach towel received upon arrival in my room was damp and smelled of sunscreen (obviously not washed). Asked for clean one next day and was told there was a problem with the machines so spend first day with a dirty towel that was used by someone else before me. Bathrooms are old and need updating. Presence of rust and soap scum.Water pressure was bad. I did on three occassions notice young prostitutes with old men at the resort. Vendors are allowed a few nights a week to set up right in front of main buffet. Very annoying. Wifi weak.BE AWARE: if you have a flight that leaves late like ours 9pm, you will still have to check out at 1pm. They offer to store your luggage in a nonlocked open door closet ouside that is unsupervised (anyone can walk in and out) and you can stay at hotel. Needless to say, I kept my bags with me. They MIGHT have a courtesy room available for you to shower and change before going to airport but I was told its not guaranteed. I did get one. It was full of used wet towels. Had to find a maid and ask for clean towel.Average all-inclusive. The setting is truly beautiful. If they renovated bathrooms, upgraded the food and gave their staff courtesy lessons, this resort would get much better ratings.

went during christmas time 2016

the grounds were beautiful, we booked 2 rooms, 2413 and 2415.from the first day we had problems in room 2415, the lights were burned, the only light we had is in the bathroom, it took them 5 days of our vacation to change the light bulbs, second there was a very bad odour coming from the bathroom, we told the management, they came to check and agreed with us but did nothing. the staff at the restaurant were very nice. I would not recommend these two rooms. , be carefull if something will break it will never be fixed.

Very poor service, very old rooms and hotel tolerant to prostitution

I'm really surprised to see that this hotel has received 3-4 star reviews, as my point of view is quite different. We stayed there from 23 -30 December 2016, so the hotel was full, and it was obvious the staff is not used to handle very huge crowds. The rooms are very old fashioned, they certainly need an upgrade. When we arrived, there was soap and shampoo in the bathroom, but we didn't get any more supplies, so I ended up buying my own soap and shampoo. Moreover, rooms are not properly cleaned and the telephone didn't work. Sosua is not a pretty town, so if you want to always stay at the hotel, there is no problem, but if you want to take a walk and visit the town you'll be disappointed, and not because Sosua is a humble place, but because it's a place for prostitution, you can see everywhere old americans/canadians with very young girls, that barely are 18-19 ys old. Simply disgusting... More disgusting for me was that some of these old men book rooms at Casa Marina, so you can see them with their escorts, in fact, during my stay, there was this very old guy, around 75 with a girl of around 18. You may say that the hotel cannot do anything about this, but indeed they can refuse to accept this kind of clients. I won't encourage a visit to this place, Dominican Republic has much better hotels.
