Casa Marina Reef Resort

The only thing good about our stay at Casa Marina Reef was the weather...and that I was there with my husband and daughter. We arrived December 23rd (supposed to be Dec 22nd) and stayed until January 5th. Our plane arrived late and a bus load of travelers arrived at the resort at 1:30am to find only 1 staff member available to check us all in. When we finally arrived at our room (3am), expecting to find a beautiful, newly renovated room (we booked this vacation 11 months in advance), we found something that was no better than a rundown roadside motel. The bathroom was grungy and worn, our television did not work, there were no towels or water in the room, there was no hot water in the shower and no place to unpack our clothes. Throughout our stay, the hot water situation was not remedied and more often than not, there was not water pressure either. We had to sponge bath most days in cold water...not fun!!!We were booked for 2 weeks and had to live out of our suitcases the entire time. Some days the housekeeping staff showed up, other days they did not. The food was bland with little variety throughout the week. We ended up eating at restaurants in town because the food was better. As for the staff...there was little empathy/compassion when we expressed our room troubles. There was no apology for the misrepresentation of the rooms, the lack of hot water, etc. Some of the male staff were inappropriate in their manner toward my 18 year old daughter and made her feel very uncomfortable. This company has a long way to go to improve their customer service skills. There were also a lot of "extra" costs that were not disclosed: fees for the in room safe, and fees per device for wifi (which was only available in select locations/not in the rooms). Many of the washrooms facilities were filthy and often without toilet paper (I started carrying a roll from the room with us). There was no in room coffee and you had to wait until 6am to get some from the buffet (luckily we were very close to the eating area). Often the grounds were littered with cups and such in the mornings and in some areas, garbage remained in place for 4 days. One good thing....The fireworks display on New Years Eve was spectacular. As I mentioned, I was happy to be with my family and that the weather was great, but all in all this resort is by far the worst that we have ever experienced. This was our first time to the Dominican Republic, and honestly, after this experience, I am not sure that we would return.
We had a really nice week, food is really good, rooms are clean, the beach is beautiful, the shows are fun, and the best of all are the people who work there who are amazing people. A big thank you to all the entertainment staff who were so nice and made our week so fun!
We went at the hotel Casa Marina in Sosua and it was an amazing experience! Everything was better than we tought it will be: the beach, the rooms, the food and all of activities purpose day after day. The best surprise we had was the energy of the staff! They give us an unforgettable week. Gracias too Yelissa, Yarilda, Eugenie, Angela, Jimmy, Isaac, Yury, Esmeralda and others for all you do. We will return at this hotel for them and the quality of the Casa Marina.
Beautiful resort, employees are very nice, especially Isaac. Great activities and great food. The beaches are beautiful and the reefs are simply amazing. Perfect for families or couples. Rooms are clean
This trip was my fourth to The Casa Marina and i was looking forward to see all the changes that have been made since my last visit. I was not disappointed. The out side areas and new bars are lonely. The restaurant is now bright and airy and the food has improved immensely. We stayed in a room that we stayed in on our first visit to the Casa Marina. The room is now classed as a deluxe room. The bathroom has a walk in shower, a new round vanity basin and a massive mirror across the wall. New lighting, furniture and headboards have been added to the bedroom along with a new colour scheme and curtains. Now you may be wondering why i have only awarded three stars? well here is the reason, for the whole of our stay we had a problem with the lack of hot water to our room. Out of a fourteen night stay we only had a proper hot water supply to our shower the rest of the time it was just a trickle, so for twelve we had to shower in cold water. The lack of hot waster was reported to reception the day after we arrived, then again after another two days. It took five days to get hot water to the basin. It was reported again. A man from the maintenance team did come an look at the problem and said he would report his findings to his manager. Two more men came and looked. Then on the tenth day we got a proper water supply and were able to get showered, but this only lasted two days as on Saturday morning i returned to our room to find workmen looking at the shower and the water pipes. They went away saying they would report back to their boss. That night once again no hot water. I reported it at reception and nothing was done. We left on Monday afternoon after having to take cold showers yet again. I would like to ask the management how they could charge an extra $140 for the room saying it was a deluxe room when basic hot water was not available for 12 days
