Mercure Promenade des Anglais
- What's Included
Location: Promenade des Anglais, Old Nice.
The location is great, as you probably already know from other reviews. And we always book sea view room, which - by the way - doesn't add a fortune to your bill, like at some other beachfront hotels. On a good side: good room size, Nespresso machine, small fridge to store your snacks and drinks, friendly personnel, new wine fridge in the lobby (believe me, you will appreciate this one in the late evening, when the shops around are closed!).To improve: bathroom amenities. Unlike at other Mercure hotels, here you will only find one huge bottle of a everything-in-one hanging on the wall (like at the cheap American hotels). Better bring your own shampoo and shower gel.Mattresses could be better too. And Wi-Fi should be improved. We kept the luggage at the front desk and didn't have any problems with it, like other reviewers. We never had breakfasts there, because there are too many great breakfast places just one step outside. We first stayed here in 2004. And - don't ask me why - in 2017 we are still choosing this hotel every time we come to Nice. Probably, it's about the location. Or, perhaps, we just couldn't find anything better, considering price/location/comfort and our favorite restaurants nearby. :-)
The room had a good size, hotel has an excellent location right next to the beach and to streets full of restaurants. Breakfast was good but the buffet is not very well organized, apple juice was across the saloon so we took 1 day to find out there even was apple juice... There is a boiler to boil fresh eggs but no time indication so we wasted 1 or 2 eggs before we got the correct timing. The hotel is on top of a public parking with access directly to the hotel which is an advantage in Nice since it's VERY difficult to find parking spaces on the street. The downside is that 12 -24 hour parking costs 25 EUROS!! If you are able to park on the street at the end of they day you pay only around 2 EUROS and you can pay in advance for the next day when the charged parking initiates.
Asking for any sort of gluten free options for breakfast, the only thing on offer was a wrapped sponge biscuit. No bread, no cereal, just NOTHING. Also the staff was clueless, and not in the mood to find a solution even for the following days......room rate was £400 per night, so what a poor outcome. Bad smell across reception area.....like blocked drains. Not appetising.Take away cups for coffee in the rooms.....are we in McDonalds ?
The best thing about this hotel is the location. Perfect for the promenade, the old town and most of the sites. The hotel is clean and all the staff are polite and efficient. We had a standard room with no view other than the inner courtyard. The standard rooms are just that. No wardrobes or drawers, no armchair or desk space and tired bedding. This is not a complaint but if you are looking for other than the basics I would pay for a superior room which I am sure are much better,Did not partake of the 18 euro breakfast as I am sure it is over pricedHotel has a small lobby and no lounge to enjoy a coffee or drink. However all in all considering this is Nice, and the location, I feel the hotel offers good value for money and I would consider it on a visit back.
We were too early to check into our room but there was no problem leaving our luggage while we went for some lunch. We liked the fact that you are given tickets for your luggage and only hotel staff have access to the luggage room so it felt secure. We told the receptionist that we wanted to take breakfast eachH day. He checked that it wasn't already included in our reservation, which it wasn't, but then said we could have it for a reduced price of €13 instead if the usual €17 which was good. The room was a good size and comfortable and having a fridge available is especially useful for cooling water. We found all of the staff friendly and helpful. This is the second time we have stayed here and will do so again. I don't think you could find a better location.Thank you.
