Mercure Promenade des Anglais
- What's Included
Location: Promenade des Anglais, Old Nice.
We have just spent three nights at this hotel. The Reception area was bright and modern and Reception staff were friendly and helpful, as were Housekeeping staff. Although the carpet in the corridors looked a little grubby and in need of replacement, our room was clean and of a very good size. The bathroom was also quite large. The balcony was really a French balcony as space had been taken up with double glazing, separate from and at a distance from the windows. However, on the plus side, the room was protected from traffic noise from the street below and both windows had opening doors, giving a choice of fresh air or air conditioning. Colour schemes in the rooms were bright - we had a purple theme and noticed another room in lime green. Breakfast was buffet style in a bright airy room and we never had to wait for a table, although clearance of tables was a little haphazard. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room were welcome but for a hotel of this standard we would have expected china cups or mugs instead of cardboard ones and also proper glasses instead of thin plastic disposable ones. The cost initially seemed expensive but taking into account the size of the room, the sea view and proximity to the market, the old town and the town itself, in addition to seafront restaurants, it was probably just about worth it.
I am very disappointed with what happened today (06/19/2017) at the Hotel Mercure Promenade Des Anglais, Nice and how was the hotel's staff reaction to the incident! We left the room for breakfast in the hotel and upon returning 30 minutes later my wife's bag left in the room was opened and approximately Euros $ 300 disappeared! In that small interval only the chambermaid was in the room doing the daily cleaning. As soon as we returned from breakfast and we detected what happened, we informed the reception that confirmed the entrance of only the maid in the room, according to the security cameras, however, it excused theirself from the "fault" because the values were not in the safe box of the room.I've had the option of choosing this hotel but I've hadn't of choosing the employees who works there. From whose is the responsability? The hotel thinks that is not its responsability! I desagree. So, do not recommend this hotel that hides from their responsibilities!
The hotel located in a very good area, close to seafront, bars, shops, bus stops, so basically to everything. The hotel is a very good 3 1/2 star or a very basic 4 star. It is more like a Premier Inn. Breakfast was good, but guite basic. Staff is ok, if you don't ask too many questions, rooms are clean but as someone already mentioned, the hallway carpet needs to be clean. But I have chosen this hotel for the location and that was perfect.
Whilst the price might be ok the hotel is quiet run down and old. The bathroom was a good size however the rooms are tight if you are travelling with bigger luggage on a longer trip for two. We had a sea view which was nice and the location is good for new town and old town. Plenty of places to eat and we enjoyed going for an early morning run along the boardwalk each morning. Considering the location the noise wasn't too bad as the balcony doors were double glazed. Exterior of building is quiet worn down as well, hotel staff very friendly and helpful.
After enjoying staying in UK based Mercure hotels I was extremely disappointed with everything about this one in Nice.on arrival there is a damp smell in reception that continues into the rooms. They advertise 'tea and coffee ' making facilities in the rooms but you get a paper cup to make it in! A thin plastic glass for other drinks adds insult to injury. We only had one breakfast as it was awful..the bread was inedible..tasted stale...so we chose to eat out at one of the wonderful local patisseries...wonder why they couldn't supply the bread! Hotel is in a great location but everything else about the place is sadly lacking..will not go there again.
