Subway: Victor Hugo or Charles de Gaulle-Etoile (RER)
We visited Paris for Lollapalooza festival in Longchamps so wanted a hotel in the north-west corner of the city to access it easily. We got a reasonable rate for the hotel (a quarter of the price of the rack-rate whilst we were there) and were upgraded to a superior room on checking in. We weren't expecting much for less than £100 a night in central Paris but were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It is a short walk from Victor Hugo, Boissiere and Kleber metro stations but we used Victor Hugo most regularly due to the lines it was on. We were amazed to find ourselves within walking distance of both the Arc de Triomphe and Trocadero so we found ourselves walking to most places but this did have its disadvantages, the area (relatively quiet, residential) was very expensive. The Victor Hugo roundabout (where the metro station is) has several good restaurants, a brilliant mini supermarket, an amazing bakery and a pharmacy around it. The restaurants were all very expensive (at least double the price of Montmartre) but the supermarket was great, we took to buying freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit and pastries from it every morning and eating breakfast sat in front of the church overlooking the fountain and the chaotic traffic, which felt very Parisian. The room itself was a decent size with twin beds, bedside tables, a desk, wardrobe, chair, case stand and full length mirror. It was very traditionally French and quite similar in décor to old hotels we have stayed in in Provence. We had big French windows which overlooked the street and a separate bathroom and WC. One downside was the toiletries provided in the bathroom, there were very few tissues and the shower gel/shampoo was in a dispenser on the wall of the shower. There was no conditioner and no moisturiser, thankfully the supermarket and pharmacy saved us. The room also had air conditioning and an adjoining door to the room next door (making it ideal for families). The lifts were very small fitting about 2 people plus a case at the most, which again is typically French. We chose to walk up the steep winding stair case but it would be a struggle for older or immobile people. The staff were pleasant although we saw very little of them really, only speaking on check-in and departure and they offer a breakfast buffet but it seemed very expensive. I would certainly return to the hotel if the prices remain the same as we paid although we know now not to eat in the local area!
The room was clean and nicely decorated with a good amount of space for a hotel room in the centre of Paris. The hotel has a good bar/lounge area and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. This hotel is located a short walk from the Champs Élysée, the Arc de Triomphe and other tourist hotspots. An ideal base for a weekend of site seeing.
Whilst not an eye catcher from the street Victor Hugo turned out to be a clean and comfortable hotel although the room was on the small side. Very pleasant and helpful staff. The breakfast room was usually crowded but the food quite adequate. really good central location.
Clean and qiuet rooms, they were totally ok! But the staff was actually qiute rude, especially when we checked out. The breakfast was also a disappointment. A lot of things run out and the there was not so much to choose between. And once again, the staff were quite rude when we asked if they hade more bread. The result = i will not stay there again!
Stayed here for three nights at the beginning of June. The hotel is great, nice and central within walking distance from the heart of Paris happily strolled back here from the Eiffel Tower one evening. Friendly and helpful staff and clean accommodation with a lovely bathroom.
