Horrible Change in Management! No stars if possible.

This used to be a great hotel, until April 2017 when it was taken over by Happy Culture. We were there with a student/parent group for three nights. Only saving grace - it's a non-smoking hotel. What went wrong: staffed by interns, only one on duty at a time/no ac in most rooms/elevator broken for most of stay/very little water pressure/ 3 rooms lost electricity/Highest person in charge was out of country and couldn't help us. I stood for 2 1/2 hours on our last night to make sure elevator would be working when we were leaving in the morning (had participants on 7th floor with luggage). New manager, Hélène, would not answer phone calls until 10:15 pm and finally told Mathias how to fix elevator. Why she wouldn't do so for the previous two days, no one will ever know. Elodie, Mathias and Caijine were very helpful and we never blamed them. Elodie was an intern left alone, in charge, Mathias and Caijine had not been there in a very long time, but Hélène couldn't find anyone else to work and called her last minute. None of this was their fault. Mismanagement on Hélène's part has assured me that I will not be recommending what was once a good hotel. Lobby staff did everything they could to help, but stay was horrible.

Not the worst, definitely not the best

Stayed 2 nights by myself. It did the job so I gave it 3 stars but doubt I'd stay again. Cons: -The smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. I had very low expectations for a single in Europe, but this was pretty extreme. Barely room to put my luggage down.-Breakfast was pretty weak. Mine was included, but just warning you- don't pay extra for it. Also it's in the basement, very weird. Dishes were dirty.-I don't think the AC works. Tried turning it down all the way to 10 degrees but still slept with no blankets. Elevator wasn't working either, luckily I was on the first floor.-Not the hotel's fault but the neighborhood seemed shady to me. A lot of graffiti-covered closed storefronts. Being a New Yorker it takes a lot for me to be uncomfortable but I definitely walked fast at night.Pros:Great lady at the front desk.Free espresso in the lobby.

Cheap, Good Location, Read This.

If you're looking for a really nice hotel to stay in Paris you shouldn't book a 3 star. This hotel is cheap, in a good location and that's about it. Hotel staff are helpful, room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The air con was rubbish and I was boiling hot so if you're coming for the summer I'd probably avoid. There is a street nearby that you may feel intimidated by (chata de neuf) as soon as you come out of the metro station near the hotel but don't be alarmed. The groups of people hanging around here are harmless and won't bother you.The food in Paris is to die for. Even the cafes on the street corner serve great food. Across the road opposite the hotel is a great restaurant that serves amazing food. When we travelled south of the river a lot less people speak English and it's a lot more local rather than touristy which is something to be aware of. Metro costs like €1.90 or something and gets you all over the place. If you're staying for a week or so there is an option to buy 10 tickets at the stations which i would recommend doing. Your ticket will last you a journey to your destination and a journey back to your destination which sounds silly but you can travel a long way for €1.90. There's also something called Rer which is different to the metro so make sure you buy the correct ticket if you travel a Rer line but most will be metro if your staying near the tourist attractions. Also go up the giant tower (you'll know which one) and look at the Eiffel Tower at night, you'll have a fantastic view of the city of lights and the whole top floor is dedicated to viewings. I think it cost us around €10-15 or something. Le louvre was a bit overrated, if you want to get near the Mona Lisa you'll have to wade through the giant crowd. I got to the front and even then it's in a glass case 5 metres away. Tickets are free if you're under 24 so don't bother buying one. Eiffel Tower is quite cheap if you queue (2 hours) €7-12 euros (can't remember). Don't be an idiot and buy a £60 skip the queue unless you get the nice boat ride and tour. Other than that you should just go and explore because Paris is great. It's kind of dirty and polluted but it has its beauty as well. PS if you book the catacombs online you may have to get your tickets at the tobacco shop near McDonald's which is very near by, weird right? Don't worry though it's all completely legit. So yeah only book this hotel if you're on a budget and will be spending all your time exploring.

Choose a different hotel

The positive of this hotel is its proximity to Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est and that is where it ends. There was always a queue at reception that seemed to take forever. We were able to leave our bags in the morning before check in but when we returned in the late afternoon, we were told that there was no room for us as we had been assigned a single and were a couple and we would have to be put in a different hotel. The poor receptionist was very flustered and unable to deal with finding us a room, communicating via telephone with her colleagues and dealing with other guests who arrived at the desk. After a stressful 20 minutes she was told the room was a double after all and the system had got it wrong. We were then given a key and sent to the 7th floor, where upon the key card wouldn't open the door. We went back to reception and she said "I thought that might happen". This all took a very long time because the lift was so slow and meant we were super rushed to get showered and to our dinner reservation. We were in room 703 - if you do stay at this hotel, make sure you request that you are not given this room. It is tiny and so stuffy. The aircon is useless and reception helpfully told me the next morning that "it's hard to make it work in hot weather". It was 31 degrees when we were there. Surely that is what aircon is for? Hot weather? Bizarre. The room was quite dirty and generally unappealing. We asked for a double bed but it was two twins pushed together. It was a 'double premier' room with absolute nothing premier about it.The thing about the hotel is that from pictures it looks nice. When you enter the lobby, it looks lovely. When you get past the lobby, it's probably a 2 star hotel at best with chipped paint, old lifts and a very sad and tired atmosphere. Don't stay here. Even for one night when we barely spent any time at the hotel, it still dampened the stay and was not worth it at all.Disappointed.

Great hotel

The front desk was great and very helpful. The rooms where clean and roomey for Pairs. The breakfast was great. Also the outside area was very nice. When we arrived they offered us a free beer and candy that the kids loved.
