Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof Hotel
- What's Included
Great location and OK hotel but for the prices, there shouldn't be a leak in bathroom, the elevators should work and it would be nice to get the room every day. Also, being able to hear your neighbors through the bathroom walls is not optimal.
I booked a Studio Suite for my 3 day visit to Frankfurt prepaying at a lower non-refundable rate. When I checked in I was told I did not reserve a Studio Suite. I showed the person that was checking me in my reservation receipt and after a conference with other hotel staff she finally agreed the reservation system was wrong but unfortunately there were no available rooms at or above the level I booked and "paid" for and they would switch me the next day. I called the front desk at noon the next day asking if my room was ready and was told they would call me back as soon as it was. When I never heard back by 4pm I called again and this call finally resulted in the room change. When I checked out I was given a receipt charging me again for the room even though I had pre-paid. The front desk person insisted I was mistaken and did not pre-pay and would be charged for the room. Again I retrieved my laptop and showed him my confirmation receipt clearly showing that it was prepaid. He reluctantly agreed to remove the room charge and would recharge me if was not actually prepaid. He also would not credit me the difference in the room rate for my first night. I paid a higher rate for my booked room then the rate for the room they gave me and I should have at least be given a credit for the difference if not a complimentary night.I strongly recommend that anyone staying at this hotel check your bill very carefully when you check out and don't assume their computer system is correct. Have your receipts handy, you just may need them, or you may wind up overpaying.
The Steigenberger was the centre of Frankfurt style and class......in the 1970's. Now it is charmingly passé. The rooms are generous and the beds very comfortable. Good Linien and in our room a separate luggage and hanging space. A balcony for smokers, indeed I'm sure the pinnacle of German style, once. A fine bar and generous breakfast cannot overcome the side entrance out of order lift and general sense that the grandeur has been replaced by cost cutting. A shame, my Frankfurter wife had longed to stay here but her vision from the 1980's was disappointed. Shower over bath and broken fittings
My stay was very disappointing. It was supposed to be a huge surprise to my friends that we were staying at the Steigenberger as I booked it unknowing to them and it was supposed to be the highlight of our weekend in Frankfurt but unfortunately it turned into the worst part of our weekend. All we wanted was a room for 3 people. I paid in advance for a "Superior" room for 3 people on booking with the hotel on their official website. No one mentioned that this was a problem at time of booking. We were given a double standard room with no space for 3 people. On querying this at reception I was told that was a superior room and they will provide a fold-out bed. I requested another room and was told none were available. I explained there is no space in our room for one, but they insisted on squeezing one in and said they will try to upgrade us for the next day. I had no choice but to accept this as there was no other rooms available and I had already paid in advance. The standard room had no complimentary water, no tea making facilities and we had to ask for extra towels as 3 people were staying in the room. We also asked for an extra dressing gown but never received it. All night long, we could hear consistent banging from the street as we were right beside a night club that went on till 11am the following morning. The next morning I asked at reception about our upgrade and was told it was all arranged and we could avail of our new upgraded room from 4pm. I was delighted and looking forward to this. We came back at 5.30pm and was told our room was ready. Yes it was a larger room, but had no extra bed, not even a fold-out bed in it. I spoke to the cleaning staff and asked for an extra bed and I also asked in reception and was told it was on its way. We were all very tired and wanted to take a nap before we headed out again. The spare bed arrived after 7pm. It was assembled and left in the middle of the floor. No extra towels, no extra dressing gown, again I had to ask for these items. This is not the service I expect from a 5 star hotel!! We should have been told at reservations that they do not cater for 3 people in a room. The staff are very polite, the hotel looks amazing, but the so called "Superior" room is actually a standard room. It is certainly not worth the money we paid for it. I was extremely disappointed and I will never return. My stay in Frankfurt has been tainted by my experience in the Steigenberger Hof Frankfurt.
We had only one night to stay in Frankfurt before our flight home and we wanted to be near the Christmas Market. The location was great, about 2 blocks from the market & 3 blocks from the river. It's a beautiful old hotel, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The Internet is very slow, but the concierge helped us translate the German on the website so could check-in for our flight the next day and printed the boarding passes for us. The heat in our room was not working, so I called down to reception, and they said they would take care of it. Within 5 minutes, we had heat - the damper to our room had been closed because the room had not been occupied for a while, and a technician came by to verify. The (superior grade) room was very nice, spacious & clean. The only complaint with room is that the bedside lamps are not bright enough to read by. The other complaint would be the cost of the breakfast buffet - €38! (You can't order items a la carte, the buffet is the only option) This was a Sunday morning, located in the financial district, and we had to get to the airport, so we didn't have the option to go out. There are many options otherwise. That said, I would highly recommend the Steigenberger for classic elegance and charm.
