Westin Grand Frankfurt
- What's Included
I stayed here for three weeks while moving from Frankfurt back to the U.S. The experience started off well with the manager accommodating my situation. However, from check-in to check-out, the hotel was not customer friendly. The woman who checked me in refused to change my reservation from 1 adult to 2 adults. I explained that I would be having friends visit before I moved back to the U.S. and wanted them to be able to use the lounge with me (1 at a time). She stated that it would cost more money. However, there is never an additional expense unless more than 2 adults are staying in the room. That would not be the case. If I were married, would she not allow my husband to stay in the room with me if he came to visit? Finally, she relented and said she would call her manager. The manager told her to change the reservation to two people. So, in order to show her frustration with me, she then stated that breakfast would now be taxed for two people. Breakfast was free, since I am a Platinum member! The room was nice and spacious with a lovely bathroom. The bathroom floors are heated, which was nice. I will say, the toilet NEVER flushed on the first try. It's a button you push, and it rarely worked. The beds were comfortable. Here is the weird thing. The phone never stopped ringing. At all hours of the day and night, the phone would ring. I would pick up and nobody would be there. I called the front desk and they said they had no idea what was going on. So, I had to unplug my three phones for the three weeks I was there. The cleaning staff was also subpar. I never felt like my room was adequately clean. I even tipped on the days they cleaned, which was every three because of the Green Choice. As for the Green Choice, the sign stated I could notify the front desk that I wanted to participate rather than having to hang the sign out each night. When I asked about it at the front desk, I was rudely told to hang the sign. The bar is overpriced. The food was good. You do receive a Starwood's discount. Despite your reservation reflecting your status, you must show your actual card each time. The lounge was nice. The food was above average, even if the friendliness was not. There is wine and beer. We did get kicked out one night at 10, despite a table of 8 people being allowed to stay. My biggest complaint came on my second to last day. I decided to get a massage. The massage itself was great. However, I used the spa afterwards. There is a sauna and steam room that is above the pool area in a separate room. I was given two towels when I checked in, one being for the sauna. I lived in Germany for 5 years. I know that you are typically required to go into the sauna without a swimsuit. However, I was at an American-chain hotel. Not a German bath haus. Therefore, I didn't think it was forbidden to wear a swimsuit, so I wrapped the towel around me and entered. I was abruptly yelled at by a naked German man who stated that I was not allowed to come in with my swimsuit. COME ON. I am in a hotel in tourist central, an American one at that. And what is the difference if I am wearing a swimsuit or not under my towel???? He would not have even known had the straps not been showing. One is supposed to remove their suit to enter the sauna, take a sauna, and put their suit back on to use the pool. Ridiculous. So, I left the spa. Upon leaving the spa, I asked the employees if I was required to enter the sauna naked. They responded that I was. I should have been told that upon entry. The employees instead said I should have read the sign next to the sauna, and the requirement is for hygienic purposes (the typical German response in this situation). I explained that they put me in a very awkward position by not explaining the policy, and it's even more ridiculous to have the policy in a touristy hotel. I can imagine how some people would have been horrified to enter a sauna filled with naked guests who are yelling at them to leave because of a swimsuit. Their suggestion? "Perhaps I would like a facemask, so I can calm down." There are other Starwoods’ properties. Stay there.
Nice city property with modern amenities. Rooms are clean, spacious and nicely arranged. They have great staff, always polite and with a smile on their face and extremely helpful (they did help me to track my delayed luggage due to a missed connection flight in Paris). Location is great if you are a shopper since it is close to the Zeil shopping district, just 5 minutes walk. Commuting is also easy since the S Bahn station is very close. I did commute to the Haupt Bahnoff from here, it was so easy. Overall it was a memorable stay.
I stayed for two nights for a work event. The hotel was large but unmemorable/very dated although the bathroom was renovated. The hotel however was very convenient to shopping areas and the train station.
Some of the Westin locations are remarkable, but this one is not. Great location though. As an SPG loyalist, I would stay here again. Convenient walk to many go-to places around Frankfurt, and not too far of walk from the train station.
Very good location near platz st. The shopping areaThe staff and service very good The rooms well organised and clean Nice gym More consider to b business hotelRich breakfast with many variety ...............
