Stayed here for 1 night. Booked the Standard room on booking.com (as it cost 1/2 of what it would have cost booking directly on their website) and got a free upgrade to Superior upon arrival. The service at the reception was top. The room (297) was small but nice; however the furniture was FAR too big for the small room and one could hardly move... Great shower! The SPA has a nice pool, was a real disappointment. The sauna is absolutely not taken care of. Its dirty, there was a pile of at least 2 m hight of dirty towels, around the pool all beds were occupied by dirty old towels of people that had left since ages, there were glasses and plates standing around everywere; the water was always empty and the jars far too small; the floor was dangerously slippery; etc. - a hotel that makes it "roos top SPA" a main selling point really needs to do something here! The Bar on the rooftop was great and not very expensive. The best about the hotel is the perfect location.
Although the hotel is kept spotless and it is a reasonably well oiled machine, it lacks attention to detail which an establishment with this heritage is supposed to have. Yes the rooms are nice and clean, the staff attentive and always present, but for a seasoned traveller like me, who was fortunate enough to grow up in the surroundings of five star hotels around the world, some things are not really acceptable. They may mean nothing to most of the clientele, but should not happen at all. Like serving nuts at the bar without a spoon! And when asking for one, yes I received one, but with a roll of the eyes. Really not OK. In the bathroom of the hotel I noticed some of the clients not washing their hands. I hope they didn’t like nuts, too. The staff in front of the hotel were a bit too relaxed and friendly with us. I don’t mind the occasional joke from staff who know me, but not from personnel I see for the first time. The breakfast, which provides a wide variety of choices, honestly needs a revisit. Maybe open a bit to the world flavours? The world is moving fast and wealthy customers from all over the world are visiting this beautiful city; is it really necessary to serve them the typical German breakfast only? And at this price? Clearly the owner can ask as much as they want for it, but it is a bit over the top. Maybe less staff in the breakfast room saves money to reduce the price, many just walk around without doing anything. I would come back to this hotel anytime, but just to sleep, not much for anything else.
It’s not this place was bad, far from it, just that we found it a little ostentatious - a speactacular facade to the building and very impressive on entry but it was just so big and cluttered that it was difficult to find everythng. We also arrived when there were several other events going on in the hotel so the bars and restaurants were too busy to accommodate us. When you are paying the prices that the hotel asks, I think you should be able to expect more. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable and the location was perfect for the Christmas market but we expected better and more for what we paid. The hot,e didn’t quite live up to its spectacular surroungpdings.
We booked the Silvesterabend dinner in the Dachgarten. The setting was OK, albeit somewhat cramped. Nice view over Munich and the fireworks. The dinner though, was rather disappointing. Although allergies were reported far ahead, the replacement of the lobster by some piece of artichokes from the buffet was an insult. Quality of dinner buffet also was definitely not spectacular. In fact not even good, and unbefitting marketing and pricing of the event. An experience not to be repeated for sure.
It is my first time in this hotel, I booked for one night and I arrived at 2 pm and I got my room at 6 pm. Although I am Handicapped and require special assistance nobody is caring. All I get is the word Sorry but your room is still not ready. I need to rest in a room, they said sorry but we are cleaning. I don’t recommend this hotel if you are looking for high level service. Nobody cares and the hotel is not capable of serving guest, I don’t know why they accept bookings if they cannot serve guests in the right manner.
