Holiday Inn Munich City Centre
- What's Included
We had limited options when we booked as it was a weekend and very busy - so this was the best choice left. It is decent - clean and in a good location to walk to the main square Marien platz. Rooms are a bit small and the breakfast is average at best. Massive tour groups stay here so its always busy and the staff are stretched thin. Price was reasonable but really would choose this if you can find availability elsewhere in the same range.
Take S1 or S8 train from the Munich Airport and get off at Rosenheimer Platz and follow the sign of Gasteig. After taking the first set of escalator, stop following the Gasteig sign and bear left and you will see the Holiday Inn sign. The hotel is at the end of the tunnel once you follow the sign. You don't even need to go to the surface at all. There are two supermarkets and several eateries in the tunnel before you see the hotel. It's such a convenient location. The hotel allowed me to have an early check in. The room was very clean and comfortable. However the shower water temperature was hot and cold during the shower. At first I tried resetting the water temperature on the right knob constantly. It didn't work. Then I just set the temperature and let it run. It still didn't work. I finally gave up. I did mention it to the clerk at the front desk and she said she would ask an engineer to look at it.The breakfast buffet was delicious and plentiful. They even had a omelette station. However, since they had so many guests staying there (the airlines crew as well), the staff somehow couldn't replenish the items in time. Since I was alone, there was one time, I got up to get more food and came back finding my plates and water glasses were cleared away. The funny thing was the staff who cleaned up my place was holding my vitamin bottle and psyllium husk bottle wandering around. I told him that I wasn't done and grabbed my stuff and sat down again. Another time, after I got back getting my food, I found another person sitting there in spite of my vitamin and psyllium husk bottles were right there on the table!! There were so many people and sometimes you simply couldn't get a table. I always tried to get a two person table since I was alone. The following morning before leaving the hotel for my meeting, I put out the "do not disturb" sign. By the time I came back, the room was made up. I didn't understand why it was made up. So the following day, I put out the sign again. This time, my room was left alone and a note was left. That was better.I did notice that the cleaning crew was very friendly and always greeted me when they saw me. I heard the gym wasn't on site, but I never had time to try it.
We stayed here for 3 nights on a Munich city break. It is easy to reach from the Airport being a 30mins S bahn ride away. Note: You can buy a 3 day transport ticket at the airport for about 25 Euros which covers the journey to the hotel and all of Munich city transport- buses, trams and underground and is very good value if you are hoping to do a bit of sight seeing. The hotel is in a shopping centre at Rosenheimerplatz, neither too near nor too far out of the centre 2 stops on the S-bahn to Marienplatz and the famous Altstadt. The reception is on the first floor right at the back of the lounge/bar area. The check in was straight forward and we were offered breakfast at a reduced rate if we booked for all three mornings if we booked there and then. The only other thing to note is that if you want to use the mini-bar fridge you have to leave your credit card number at reception or the mini-bar remains locked for the duration of your stay. This did not worry us as we dont use mini-bars anyway. The rooms themselves are largely and fairly well equipped with baths as well as showers and proper double beds, not just single beds pushed together. There are coffee and tea making facilities in the rooms and extra supplies can be obtained if you ask house-keeping. The showers were a little feeble but the toiletries provided were more than ample and any forgotten items can be picked up from reception on request. The TV's show a wide variety of channels in various languages but sadly only BBC World in English. The rooms had good quiet air con and a view of the Frauenkirche domes. All in all we were very pleased with our stay and felt this was one of the better Holiday Inns we have visited. We would stay again if in the area
The hotel is located in the city centre. and near public transport. The room we had was an big family room with good space for my family (4 people) . The lobby was big and the bar there was nice . They had some playground for the kids in addition to Playstation area. The Breakfast was very nice. i can reccomend this hotel for both business and familys.
Neither too far, nor too close from the old town, a 5-minute walk from the Deutsche Museum and just across from the Gasteig concert hall, Holiday Inn Munich - City Centre is also connected to the Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station (very handy on a rainy day), which means that 35 minutes after landing at Munich Airport, you'll be checking in at the hotel. Otherwise, a flawless hotel, with a special mention for the bountiful and varied buffet breakfast. Will visit again, for sure !
