Not Only Dirty: Filthy

Shocked. Checked-in to a room I had pre-booked. The heat was running full-blast; the temperature was at-least 28 c indoors. I requested a room change; new room: Dirty Rugs. Candy Wrappers in the Drawers. Stains on the Bathroom Walls. No opener for the water. I am told this hotel is in-demand. Well.....Lady Gaga stayed at the Sofitel across the street this week. Next-time so will I.

Poor price quality

I was expecting 5 star level in this 5 star hotel. I got 1 star level and I am much more happier in the level of the much cheaper Ibis hotel than Le Meridien. All started with the parking. After a 7 hours drive with first 3 hours stuck in traffic jam and last hour in a snow storm arriving in Munich, we arrived late afternoon at the hotel. No sign of parking and we go around the building 2 times before asking a taxi driver who tells us where the parking is. We get to the barrier and I try to get a ticket, nothing comes out. So I get out of my car and ring the bell where it is says Meridien, nothing happens, does not work. Asking somebody, they tell me the bell is not working. So I run in the snowstorm 200 meters to get to the reception leaving my wife and son in the car. I am told to park the car in front and somebody will bring my car to another parking as the parking from Le Meridien is under renovation for EUR 25 a night. I run back to the car under the snow storm and arrive in front of the hotel. As I try to park, I get shouted by taxi driver who say I cannot park. I tell them the hotel told me I could and the parking is closed and we get in an argument. Finally, I leave my car in the middle of the road and the hotel takes care of parking it. Registration happens with no issue. So we get to the room and go to the pool. One of the main reason I had booked this hotel was for the pool and jacuzzi. Pool is cold and jacuzzi not working. I remember the real 5 star hotel we stayed in north Italy 1 week and am really wondering on Le Meridien can also be a 5 stars hotel. We stay 2 mins at the pool area. Back to the room and then the restaurant. I order thai curry and my wife fish + fries for my son and normal drinks. Bill is nearly EUR 80. Curry for EUR 22 is okay but I have had much better take away curries for less than half of this price. Fish for EUR 30 is bad, my wife cannot eat it. Even in the middle remote village restaurant in Belgium you would eat better. Food is not worth even half of what we paid. Next morning I phone 20 mins before checking out to ask for the car and avoid having to wait in the lobby. I am told that the car will be in front of the hotel in 15-20 mins. I check out 20 mins later and ask for the car after waiting 5 mins to find out that it is not even on its way to the hotel. The keys are in fact still in the concierge's hand and he argues that it is very busy and I need to wait despite me saying that I was told it would be there within 20 mins. I end up waiting 45 mins in total. Very poor service. Final surprise is that I did not get debited EUR 25 but EUR 30 for the parking. Nobody knew that parking had increased to EUR 30 on the 1st January. Just amazing how people working at Le Meridien were uninformed!!! Very surprised as I was in Germany and I thought Germans were organised. Just another stereotype I guess... On a positive note, room was good (thanks to upgrade due to my SPG gold status) and breakfast good. Overall though, Le Meridien with 5 stars compared to Ibis 2 stars, do not waste your money and go for Ibis!!!

Good hotel in convenient location but overpriced

The hotel is located in a very convenient location just next to main railway station (Munich Hauptbahnhof). In 15-20 mn walking, you will reach the main square market or other good restaurants. Our double deluxe room was very spacious and warm, offered free of charge welcome water, GREAT bedding, small fridge, a safe and big flat-screen TV if you are a news eater. We also had a bathtub and a shower in our bathroom. The few minuses are lack of bathroom amenities, housekeeping that did check that we were checking-out that day at 12 pm and came to wake us up at 9 am and the awful (although clean) carpet that was really disturbing to our senses by its colours and pattern (matter of taste). We did not really appreciate the questioning at the reception desk that was way too personal (where exactly we come from, what have we already visited in Europe, how did we arrive, since when we are in Europe, etc.). On the other hand we have highly appreciated an excellent recommendation on a restaurant and quick sight-seeing route. Comparing to other hotels though, I found Le Meridien overpriced.

Convenient Location and good hotel

If arriving by train as we did, location couldn't be better, as it is across the street from the station. The front desk was great, even thought we got a nice girl who was in training. We were checked in and got two rooms in the fourth floor overlooking towards the train station.Windows did a good job as noise was not an issue. The rooms were nice sized and bed and pillows comfortable. Bathroom while a bit on the small side did have shower and tub.(it also sports a weight scale to keep pounds in check!!). The staff throughout was friendly and professional. Breakfast is fantastic with a great variety including mimosas. The bar is a nice spot to end the night, while the drinks are just a bit overpriced, the selection is very good. The hotel is within walking distance of the center, however, I would not recommend for a woman to walk late at night by herself to the hotel. Me and My son were approached twice by drunken people while walking to the hotel. Take a cab, or ride the trolley that stop right outside the hotel. It is a good value for the price.

Overall good

My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights here. The room was nice but the bathroom is quite small. Overall good experience with friendly and helpful staff but cleaning service can definitely be improved (I would say this hotel is more 4 star instead of 5). Good value though.
