Le Meridien Munich
- What's Included
We end up staying at the hotel 2 times during our visit to Germany. The hotel is undergoing renovations but the service and rooms are very good. The standards have been maintained and the staff makes you feel valued.
This isn't my first stay in a Le Meridien. In fact, it's the second in as many weeks. So I do have (what I believe to be) reasonable expectations for a low-to-mid range hotel, much less something as nice as Le Meridien. LM Munich misses the mark on many of them.I'm currently a guest here. However, I'm not writing this review on their wifi. Why? Because it's too slow to even load trip advisor. See the attached picture - these are the speeds they said are "normal" and "ok". For those who don't know, this is half the speed of the dial-up internet we all had back in the 90s. Most modern websites won't even load at these speeds. It's been this way for over 24 hours, so it's not a matter of temporary congestion. Repeated calls about the problem continued to yield no results. Our room's air conditioning barely works, and makes a high-pitched squeal any time it's running. No fix or attempted fix in the two days we've been here so far. Needless to say, it's uncomfortably hot in our room.As a result, the duvets (which do come standard, without top sheets, at all Le Meridiens) on the bed are too hot to sleep with. We've tried twice now to get them to bring us a top sheet (every other LM I've ever stayed at has had a card saying "Need a top sheet? Just ask!"), but we've ended up with yet another duvet every time to so far. Granted, this is a little bit of a cultural thing, so I'll cut them some slack there. Finally, the TV is very lacking. There are tons of channels in German, which is to be expected in a German hotel. Or at least I expected it, until I stayed in a few other (much less expensive) German hotels, and they had tons of channels in English. These were German hotels with German guests in small German towns. This high-end hotel, which appears to be at least half English-speaking guests, offers a couple news channels and a few kids' shows on Nickelodeon - that's it. I probably wouldn't even mention it, but I've heard more than one conversation on this topic from other guests in the bar & lobby area, so this is obviously something that could easily be fixed and greatly increase customer satisfaction. Those things aside, the rooms are nice, the beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms are a good size for Europe. The location is excellent - directly across from the central train station, which means quick, easy access to everything and a variety of quick food options when you're on the run.I'll admit it - any one of these problems by itself wouldn't be a big deal. A combination of a couple of these issues wouldn't be a big deal at a low-end hotel, where service isn't their focus. But all of these issues combined, at a hotel where you're paying extra to ensure that you're being well taken care of? Absolutely unacceptable. Management needs to have a serious talk with their employees regarding customer interactions and service. I'm a big fan of Starwood and their properties (my favorites, in fact), but this one is seriously lacking in many areas. I'm starting to think I should have booked the Aloft next door for half the price.
Staying here for 4 nights, we booked the hotel for its location and overall we were pleasantly surprised by the quality overall. We were aware of the refurbishment in advance but can honestly say that it didn't impact our stay at all. The lobby and ground floor bar were both welcoming with the staff friendly and helpful. We didn't originally book the buffet breakfast but added it to our booking at a daily rate of €20 per person. There was a good selection of cold cuts and cooked offerings and overall we found it good value.Staying in a deluxe room we found it to be a reasonable size and well appointed if just a touch dated. The bed was comfortable and bathroom was a good size with separate shower cubicle and bath. An added bonus was the USB charging station on the bedside table, a real help with mutliple devices needing charge. We stayed here over my birthday and a really welcome bonus was a cake and birthday wishes left in our room on the day.Overall a really good stay, and we would certainly recommend the hotel to others.
My stay was from the 10-12.03.2017The location is actually great.- The Furniture is old and not being taken care of sadly.- The windows are realy dirty from the outside, partly covered with Bird faeces.- The Restaurant at Breakfast is really low in Standard regarding hygine and cleanliness.
My sister and I recently stayed at Le Meriden and had a great stay. The location is great and located right across from the main train station if you want to take day trips like we did. The room was updated and very clean with lots of space. The only issue we had was that the shower door was very loud and leaked quite a bit, but it didn't bother us too much. Will definitely be staying here on my next trip to Munich!
