- What's Included
This was our first trip to Germany. Munich was an ideal choice for our stay that included New Year's eve. We arrived at Platzl Hotel early afternoon on New Year's eve. We were able to check in a little early. The desk clerk was very pleasant and professional. We checked our car with the valet. The rooms are very nice, clean, and quiet. The floors are wood and there is quite a bit of fine wood cabinetry in the room, housing the minibar and the closet. There's a large table at which we had room service a couple of times. It was quite good, but the menu is a bit limited. The highlight of this stay were the New Year's eve fireworks, which we witnessed out our 4th floor window, being launched from the roof of the apartments across the street. We had the perfect view of a long display that lasted about 15 minutes and featured first-rate fireworks hundreds of feet above the roof tops. Wow - dazzling and thrilling!!Platzl has great access to Marienplatz that is just a block and a half away. There are affiliated hotel restaurants in the large square that's around the hotel. We went to both: Pfistermuhle, which was upscale and Wirtshaus Ayingers, which was old-style authentic. Both were good in their own way. The staff was very professional and efficient, and formal but pleasant. At the wine bar, I shared a few weiss beers with a friend. They were excellent, with ample spicy peanuts snacks to keep you thirsty.Nothing at all wrong with Platzl. It is an fine, well-run hotel. Though we found another Munich hotel close by that is more suited to our tastes, being less formal and a little more modern.
We stayed there over New Years. The room was comfortable and the location great. The breakfast was delicious with a huge choice. The service in the breakfast room was excellent. I did however find the reception staff way too formal and serious. We stayed on the 3rd floor and the noise from the street was pretty bad for all 5 nights we stayed there. We discovered a great radio channel on the TV which blocked out most of the noise. There was an awful garlicky sausage smell on our floor and at times we could smell it in our room. I mentioned it to reception who said they would see to it. No change in the smell and I heard nothing further.
I really enjoyed staying at the Platzl Hotel. My wife, niece, and I stayed here over New Years Eve. When we showed up we wanted to get a second room, and the front desk agent easily got us another room with a smile. We didn't have a chance to eat at the restaurant, but it did look really good. We did have a chance to have a few drinks at the lobby bar, and they were really good. The room service selection was little limited, but it had some good items on the menu. The breakfast had an outstanding selection, and was very tasty. The location is superb. It is right around the corner from the Hofbrau house, and just a 5 minute walk to Marienplatz. The only complaint that I had was the smell on the 2nd floor. It appears that the smells from the restaurant permeate onto the 2nd floor hallways, but not into the rooms. While it did smell good, it gets old after a while. Overall it was a really good stay. I will definitely stay here again when I am in Munich. Highly recommend!!
The location of this hotel is excellent, so central, its right on top of the main christmas market on the Marienplatz. Staff were extremely helpful from the minute arrived until the moment we left. They gave us great information about the area and other markets to look out for, and also booked restaurants for us. The room wasn’t huge but had everything we needed minus the tea and coffee, which would have been welcomed after a long day walking around. We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel, as it seemed expensive, but the coffee shops nearby are very reasonable and the pastries are tasty so it wasn’t an issue for us.We ate at various places nearby, and the food was ok if not a tad meat heavy. We had such a lovely weekend, and would thoroughly recommend Munich to all.
Hotel came recommend by a friend as we wanted to be close to the Hofbräuhaus and Marienplatz Sq. It did not disappoint on location.Beyond location, the hotel itself is a beautiful old world hotel and very comfortable. The breakfast which was included in hour rate was by far the best we’ve ever had!We will definitely return!
