Radisson Blu Park Hotel Athens

I had a business trip and we booked this for a workshop. The staff were the best part of my stay. I think all Athenians are kind and helpful so goes without saying the sercice was perfect! The hotel has a park to the left if standing outside looking at the street....advised to not go there because its not very safe due to high population of homeless people. The location is not the cleanest or poshest but it shows truly what life in Greece is for the people. Many complained that its not a clean part of town and the hotel was a poor choice...it really depends on your perspective of life and what you're looking for when you visit.Rooms were reasonably priced..i didny pay cant say but heard it was the cheapest option. The rooms were decent to stay in for 3 nights any longer i think i would have to find another hotel. Beds not too comfortable and quite stuffy in the room it felt humid constantly and it was too cold (october) to turn on the air con. Food...breakfast was delicious many options and a very nice restaurant in their lobby. Very cool paintings around the hotel from local artists. The lunches were o.k not suggested...you should go out for lunch and dinner many options in the city centre!Location...city centre is only 4eur drive by taxi takes about 8 minutes. Be sure to steer clear of those underground drivers that appear as taxis. They usually linger at city centre so tell them you need a meter and dont pay more than 5eur! City centre has really nice shops you can buy things make sure you negotiate althought prices are quite decent and I avoided haggling because of the circumstances the people are in trying to earn a living.Be sure to walk to the Acropolis...i didn't go in but we had a walking tour guide who explained so much and is highly recommended! If you get lost in city centre youll find loads of shops and great restaurants that both locals go to but also tourists its not commercialised and its a great spot to take a stroll and grab a bite!
Fab city with history to die for.Plenty to see and do for all ages.Such variety in the streets some Fab and some not so.Four or five days is enough and take your walking feet.use the city tour buses as this is the best way to get around
I usually go by the trip advisor ratings and since it had 4 stars, I didn't worry about the last minute booking for two quick nights in Athens before our return flight. I was terribly disappointed after having changed rooms twice and realizing that the rooms on the photos are the "renovated" room on the upper floor and since the hotel was "fully booked", I waited 45 minutes to rebook a room from 2nd floor to 4th floor. Overall, what can I say but stay away from this place, I can't believe it's a Radisson! Shame on them, should be revokes as Motel 10, our room/bathroom looked like it was 1985. Come on!
I'm a Gold Elite member of the Club Carlson and I intentionally chose this hotel, as my status entitles me to certain benefits. Early check in was of particular importance to me, as I was arriving in Athens at 7am after a sleepless night on a plane. When I showed up at the hotel shortly after 8 am, I was told that no rooms were available at the moment, but would be available soon. Every time I would inquire at the front desk, they would tell me the same thing- "soon". Finally, I was only able to go up to my room at around 11 am. Had they told me that from the start, I wouldn't have had to sit in the lobby for 3 hours and would have gone for a walk. Instead, the whole time the staff pretended I wasn't even there. They also weren't able to extend my check out by more than an hour. I realize that early check in and late check out are subject to availability, but the staff didn't seem to be willing to go out of their way even one bit. Needless to say, I also didn't get a room upgrade, though my status entitled me to one, but I guess that was too much to ask for.As to the hotel itself- I can only reiterate what most people seem to be writing in their reviews. The area is certainly far from the best in the city, although it's not as terrible as some people would make you believe. I felt safe walking outside both during daytime and at night, but that's just me. Overall, that didn't bother me as much as the fact that it takes a really long time to get to the historical center, given the traffic situation, but I knew what I signed up for, and the distance isn't unwalkable. The rooms and the hallways look pretty dated, although clean. The roof top pool and the restaurant are nice, and that's the main reason I'm not rating this hotel 1 star. The gym and the spa aren't very big, but quite decent nonetheless. Overall, I wouldn't stay at this hotel again and wouldn't recommend it to others. Though my main beef was with the customer service, It still doesn't feel like a 5 star hotel and there are better alternatives in Athens.
We were disappointed with this hotel, it was in an area that had little facilities and graffiti covered empty buildings, which was off-putting. The roof-top bar had great views, but the prices for drinks was ridiculous. The room size was okay, but the wall- paper had begun to tear and peel and the door to the bathroom would not close due to the wood swelling. I rang to have an iron sent to our room, after at least a 45minute wait, I went down to reception to have one sent to our room. On the positive side, the breakfast was a very, large selection of food and the service was excellent.
