My wife and I recently spent a couple of weeks at this resort. It is a beautiful place! A great place for relaxation. They have a great selection of food with 9 restaurants of different styles. All of the food was good. The nicer restaurants that required reservations (Butch's steak restaurant and Kimono's Asian restaurant) were a little disappointing. The food was good, but I was expecting better than good. The steak at Butch's (a NY Strip) was thin and overcooked (well done rather than medium). I am not a picky eater, but this could have been better. The entertainment staff was awesome! This staff was always trying to get guests involved in things. We played beach volleyball every day. We also did some stand-up paddle boarding and a short boat tour. They have 2 main pools that are quite nice - one with a nice swim-up bar. There are other pools, but they are tucked away and give one the impression they are reserved for those who are staying near the particular pool. No signs said we could not swim in those pools, but also not comfortable trying one in someone else's backyard. Most of the staff was very nice and helpful. But, there we some that were not quite so friendly. It was kind of hit and miss on this.It is not cheap gong to this place, but the all-inclusive aspect helps justify the costs. We met a lot of young American couples who were on their honeymoons. The other big population was middle-aged British (mostly English) couples.LaSource offers rooms with butler service. We thought this was a bit much and not necessary. The butlers were very nice, but I do not need someone else to run my bath or escort me to the restaurant. Having the butler reserve a spot for you at the pool with drinks is nice, but still not worth it in my opinion. If you are looking for a relaxing and enjoyable all-inclusive in the Caribbean, I would definitely recommend Sandals LaSource. I would suggest getting a room near one of the secluded pools. This would give you more pool choices.
My wife and I just returned to from our Honeymoon and we spent 8 days 7 nights at Sandals La Source. I'm going to basically sum up everything you need to know about this resort. I've spent hours and weeks before we arrived reading reviews left here on Trip Advisor and to be honest, I was thinking this could be 50/50. Airport Arrival: Its true that the airport is literally 5 minutes from the resort you could basically walk there its that close. Its a small airport and passing through customs and getting your luggage had no issues. A shuttle took us to the Hotel.Hotel Arrival: We arrived and were welcomed with a cold towel. Once staff knew who we were...we booked "Club Level", we were taken to the Club Lounge for check in. In the lounge we were offered champagne and a seat on the couch. We were given an I-pad and asked to confirm and fill out basic info. When we returned the I-Pad, we inquired about a room upgrade since our travel agent informed the resort that we were on our Honeymoon. Unfortunately, we were told no upgrades were available due to Hurricane Matthew. I got upset about it, but I let it be because we had no control of it. I asked the lady I forgot her name (tall white girl) if they knew it was our Honeymoon and they said yes.Room: We booked the Pink Gin Honeymoon Oceanview Penthouse Suite. This is NOT a Penthouse You are on the top floor with high ceilings but thats about as far as it goes. Reviews were correct about the room is very dark but if you open the shutters, you will get more light. The balcony is really small, but in this room you are paying for the ocean view. The bed was firm but we were able to sleep without any problems. There is a safe to store valuables and a fridge stocked with juice, beer, and water and it was stocked daily. We were disappointed that the room wasn't decorated for our Honeymoon, but figured that it would be probably the following day. The following day... nothing, we didn't even get turn down service. I spoke to the (tall white girl) in the Club Lounge again and asked if she knew it was our Honeymoon and she said yeah and looked clueless. It was then and there I realized we were probably not going to get the Honeymoon amenities as promised. Food: We are from NY and we are not really "food critics", but then again I read some crazy things on here about how good the food is, how awful the food is etc...bottom line the food was good. The Restaurants, only real issues was service can be slow. There are two restaurants that are by reservation only and that was Butches and Kimonos. These were the best two places to eat. The steak was cooked to order and when they served it we were told to cut it open to see if it was to our liking. The Japanese Hibachi was awesome and entertaining. Breakfast was the only thing that was just OK. We have had better buffets, but it didn't hinder our appetite. They have a french restaurant and if you don't get there a 6PM theres an hour or so wait so if you're going to go here, try and get there by 6pm. DINO's pizza was good for a quick snack and hey its not NY Pizza, but its better then some of the supermarket stuff out there. Didn't spend too much time in the Pub that was mostly a British folk hang out but they had different beers in there and TV's to watch the football games. The wings were also good here typical NY Buffalo Wings. The Dessert place was good to again didn't really spend too much time here, but no complaints.Beach/Grounds: I was concerned that the beach was going to be too small from reading some of other peoples reviews...The beach size is fine. They have yellow O rings in the water you can lay or hold onto and there were plenty of areas to lounge in the sun if you wanted to. It is also true that the loungers with umbrellas and cabanas by the pool get reserved early and at times they are not available, but it is not all day. There was construction going on and people need to relax because what other time do they have to get it done? It didn't bother us and the grounds were kept nice. There are 2 pools one quiet one and one party one the party one with the swim up bar and music...your choice.Excursions/Resort Shop: Fist and foremost... Island Routes is expensive! and the resort up sells product for more then 50% including in the gift shop. Be sure to bring sunscreen it is HOT. I burned bad and we only brought one bottle and between the two of us, it was almost gone. The gift shop... easily $20 USD bux or more for a bottle. ALSO there was a Rum from one of the islands distilleries in the gift shop ticketed at $100.00 YEAH save your money and get it either off the resort or at Duty Free. I bought that same $100.00 bottle for $47 bux. My wife wanted a Sandals shirt and it was marked at $65.00 unprecedented. We booked the half day sampler and we booked the jeep and river combo. Between the both of them I would've just picked the Jeep and River Combo. The half day was OK they took you to one of the Forts up in the mountains and it was cool to learn a little history, but it was very short. They also take you to a nutmeg plant and its basically a gift shop same with the rum distillery gift shop. Sample and then you buy. You go to a Mall for an hour this is where the cruise ship folk buy stuff they have some good deals here, but beware of the island folk trying to put stuff in your hand and make you buy it or take you on a tour of the shops. The Jeep and River tour was AWESOME. Ive read reviews here about how good it was and it was spot on! we had a tour guy named BEETLE and he was awesome!. Down to earth, knowledgeable, and laid back. If you wanted to stop anywhere, he would've stopped. We stopped and ate chicken BBQ from the side of the road and for like 5 USD it was some of the most amazing chicken we have ever had. It fell right off the bone and had the perfect homemade BBQ sauce. He along with his driver take you in a jeep where you stand up and drives all over the island and all the way up the mountain to a sulphur spring. You get to walk up a mountain and dip in the sulphur spring. BRING SANDALS OR WATER SHOES rough terrain. The river tubing was awesome about 15-20 min, but so worth it. Theres so much more but I'll leave that up to you to experience. The cost of this tour was about 200 USD per couple and the Sampler was about 125 if I'm not mistaken. They have other stuff, but we choose not to book. We were offered the comp sunset cruise... very good sunsets be sure to book your day it when you arrive!SO as I mentioned earlier about the Honeymoon amenities, in your room there are these cards and its from Sandals and its called the "LOOP". With this card, you use your phone or tablet and send a Comment, Complaint, or Concern to the resort manager. I used this card and sent my concerns about the Honeymoon amenities and how Sandals forgotten that it was our Honeymoon. we received a response within minutes!. The hotel manager, I forgot his name wanted to speak to me and directly apologize for the mishap and told me we would get everything as promised. When we arrived back to our room, the bed was made and decorated with a note from the GM and we received our Honeymoon amenities. The LOOP works.Speaking of the LOOP. Two days before our departure I sent another message about the room upgrade just to see if they had any available. A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO JAMIE! This man upgraded us complimentary for our last two nights in a Butler Sky pool Suite with Infinity Edge Pool (minus the Butler). The room is incredible. There really are no words to describe the room then just that. If you have the extra money, well worth the money! Jamie said we would love the room and we loved it. I'm glad I got to find him to thank him again for the upgrade! We would absolutely go back to Sandals La Source however, we signed up to go to St. Lucia next year for our Anniversary. We received a deal from the resort and got a really great rate for next year! Our only advise is to come here, relax and if you have the extra $, its OK to splurge especially if it is a special occasion. The memories you make last a lifetime! ENJOY!
Spent 2 weeks with second week attending a wedding blessing for our niece. Lively resort and very friendly staff. Restaurants were excellent. Must visit the French which is fantastic and also the steakhouse, again top quality. We booked well in advance but was nice and quiet so no issues. Evening entertainment OK nothing brilliant and the spa whilst very good is expensive. Very convenient to the airport, could walk and yet do not notice planes coming in at all. Beach is nice but small.
This was our first Sandals holiday but will not be our last. The resort was so well planned. Our room was a South Seas Walk out patio room which was really lovely. a few paces from our door was an infinity pool which felt like our own pool. There were hardly ever more than 10 or 12 people there it was so peaceful and quiet. If you wanted something more lively the main pool had music and entertainment and the pool bar of course. The restaurants were all very good we particularly liked Butch's and the French one. The staff were all very friendly and mainly seemed happy and attentive. Evening entertainment was the usual sort of thing the show about Grenada quite educational as well as entertaining. We did the island tour booked through Virgin which was very good as you get to see a great deal of the island, though if you book a taxi locally but not through the hotel that can be good value. Overall a dream holiday and we are looking to do Sandals again next year. Probably not Grenada as we met such a lovely group of people it would not be the same without them.
This was our second visit to this resort and for good reason; this is for us very nearly a perfect vacation resort. The hotel is extremely well maintained, gardens immaculate and staff helpful and dedicated. With the exception of the 'returners' meal, which was poor, as it was two years ago on our first visit, the resturant service and food provided is superb. Butches deserves a special mention as does the French cafe. For me gluten free food was plentiful and imaginatively provided, especially the cakes and crepes. The one thing that for me let's this resort down in a big way, and we have seen this problem manifest itself in both Sandals Barbados and Antigua last year, also both second visits, BUTLERS.If you don't have a butler you may struggle to find a sunbed in a good location, especially with shade which is not especially well provided for anyway. Everywhere there are little cooler boxes with towels neatly laid out - reserved by the butler mafia. Some butler enhanced guests would have more than one set of beds reserved at a time. It's no fun sitting on a sunbed with no shade looking at a vacant but reserved bed not being used for hours. Reminiscent of Benidorm, sorry Spain, not a luxury resort in the Caribbean. The other thing butlers are good at is whisking their charges past the queues , which admittedly were normally very short, into restaurants that couldn't normally be booked but where obviously tables where set aside for the special folk.We actually found this butler activity very intrusive and it introduced a negative tone to what was otherwise a superb vacation. It seems to be a Sandals strategy to promote butler service, and the increased revenue this presumably brings for them. Not sure this will fit with my vacation requirements in the future. Fantastic resort though!
