Mayan Princess Beach & Dive Resort

This is a smaller type resort, no need for a golf cart to get you around! Very lovely pool, the zecond pool was bring finished during our stay in the las sirenas area. three dining areas to choose from, and a great dive shop attatched. Thr front desk, wait staff and housekeeping were wonderful and accomodating. The only small drawback was spotty or slow wifi, but it was ok by me as i went there to be in the water, dive, and be unplugged.
The resort was very pretty and well maintained. The staff was pleasant and professional. The rooms, while not luxurious, were clean and comfortable. The food was average, but while they advertise that you can easily choose between buffet and al a carte restaurants, we found that we had difficulty getting reservations and sometimes a restaurant would simply be closed. I am not a fan of buffet dining and found this to be an irritant. You can get some nice small selections at the snack stations, where the food is prepared in front of you, but even though you are on an island, some of the seafood we encountered was not fresh.Bar service was good, the drinks passable, with a very limited wine selection. But you must go prepared with A LOT of small bills for tipping. Never having stayed at an all inclusive before my husband and I were not well prepared for this. The diving and snorkeling was beautiful. The coral was some of the best I have seen and the dive guides are knowledgeable and helpful, but they do get irritable with divers if they deviate from their narrowly identified route. As a long time snorkeler, I was happily left alone to explore as I wished. The beach was narrow and there were a lot of local vendors advertising and selling their wares, so enjoying a quiet and relaxing day on the beach is challenging, especially when a cruise ship is in port. Mayan Princesses beach is an excursion destination for the cruise passengers. It was a pleasant trip overall and reasonably priced, but it is not on my list of places to re-visit.
We did this as a day pass off the LIBERTY of the SEAS on Sept 19th as an excursion thru the ship. It was a very nice and clean venue. The staff was excellent and the food and drink was very good. They had good changing rooms and we had choice of beach or pool. We ended up at the pool because of the vendors on the beach. Although the Mayan Princess staff really tried, the vendors were a negative of the visit. You could not sit in the first row of chairs on the beach without being constantly bombarded by vendors. They had flags in sand that was supposed to be limit on them but they did not pay any attention to them. The venue had a reserved area roped off for hotel guest and I don't think they got the vendors. I would definitely go back but not for the beach.
We went with a dive group and had a wonderful time. Slow your pace down in this paradise location. Steps from the beach. Dive boats await you. 3 dives a day and a shark dive made for a wonderful experience. The beach was beautiful and so clean. Lots of vendors selling everything. You could take a water taxi to the North end for shopping but really the vendors on the beach had the same things.Give it a try!
Just returned from a week at the Mayan Princess. We had a beachfront front and absolutely loved the location. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. We were steps from the beach and our dive boats. The dive operator, Mayan Divers, was top notch. They handled all of the gear except your mask and fins. BCDs/ regulators were rinsed each night and stored in our lockers. Nitrox was an additional $10/tank. Like the other reviews, we found the food to be average. Some items were really good and others just so-so.
