Just came back from a four night five day stay these past weekend. I had not visited Roatan in over fifteen years. After extensive research and asking around I decided to visit this resort. Let me tell you, it was the best decision I have made in a long time! This is why...From the start, the drive from the airport to the hotel is extremely scenic. It gives you a very good idea of what to expect from the island. You drive alongside the beach passing by the town and getting a feeling of the rustic and simple buildings the locals live and work in. Clean streets and very light traffic. Halfway to the hotel you get to go up the mountain and travel through a beautiful and dense forest where you can later do some canopy or trek at your leisure.Once at the hotel and checking in you will be greeted by a very kind and helpful staff. Eager to serve you. Getting out of the lobby takes you to the pool area where one can take a couple of paths surrounded by green bushes and palm trees which give you the tropical island paradise feeling I was looking for.I stayed on room 102, just in front of the beach. It gave me a beautiful view every morning and helped me to never miss a sunset every evening. Very practical location as the restaurant, pool and beach are a couple of steps away. So moving from and to your room is done without any hassles. The room is tended to every morning, fast and easy. One morning I left for breakfast and it was done and ready when I returned. The cleaning lady clearly identifies herself with a small board and is at your disposal if needed. The room itself was comfortable, spacious and warm. All appliances needed for a comfortable stay are available. I would have only wished the air conditioner cooled more but never had the need to call maintenance about it. The shower is big enough for two to bathe and play comfortably :-D now watch out for the nightly shadows show you can give as it has glass bricks that face the public bathrooms behind the room and that are used by guests when eating in the nearby restaurants. The bed was big and comfy. Ample storage space in the closet and bedroom furniture. The food choices are ample, delicious and well made. The staff is very well trained and service oriented. They are constantly tending to you, so eating and drinking is very enjoyable during your stay. The resort has more than three restaurants. You can make dinner reservations the same day after the staffs daily meeting after eight a.m.. You will be given a food voucher so don't forget it. Try a different restaurant every night. The lobster is delicious, you can eat as much as you like. Their hamburgers are remarkably noticeable, so try one with crab relish before you leave.Service on the beach is very good and frequent up to five thirty pm. Then you are on your own. At this time of year the sun sets around six ten p.m., so try to take the only shed by the beach so you can enjoy a spectacular sunset every evening. If no clouds appear on the horizon, you will get to see the sun kiss the sea goodnight. You can spend the whole day in the crystal clear waters in front of the hotel and still have spent your day the best way possible. But you can also enjoy from a vast variety of activities from $20-$70 which include kayaking (free) to flyboarding. I did some snorkeling and a dolphin encounter which made my weekend. Will definitely come back for more soon.If you enjoy night life, music and dancing you can go to West End by many means (water taxi, taxi or rental). I don't, so this hotel was prefect for me. Music ended by ten p.m. so you can still dance and enjoy a peaceful night. Perfect balance. My only complaint would be the vast presence of street vendors or beach vendors that constantly offer from bracelets, water activities or even massages. I would recommend you coordinate your activities with the hotel staff (Douglas) or at least ask him for references before going out with other vendors. The island is very safe but you can never be too careful enough. To sum everything up, I had a great time. I definitely recommend this hotel for couples and families with kids or elders. You will feel at home, well taken care of and completely renewed after your stay. The saddest part of my trip was leaving, so make every second count when you visit.Enjoy and reward yourself a trip to Mayan Princess. I will again.
Staff is awesome. Food is great. It's a wonderful environment to be in with friends or family! All access to the pool & if you wanna get salty the beach is right in front of the restaurant! Definitely going back!
We are recently returned from a family dive trip to Roatan with a larger group of other families. The resort is beautiful and the grounds well kept. The pool is beautiful as is the beach. The diving was terrific here and the dive shop is well run. Compared to other dive resorts the rooms were spacious. Similar to other reviewers we found problems. The food is really not very good and often the staff, while friendly, don't have good enough English skills to answer questions about it. Those with food allergies often struggled to find dishes they could eat. Many in our group, although careful about the tap water etc. got big time intestinal problems. We did not have the electrical outages other reviewers mentioned and the rooms stayed cool. Most surprising of all, there was a shortage of dry towels at the beach. The beach is fabulous but narrow and the vendors do walk back and forth constantly. However, they do not harass and a simple "no thank you" sends them away. Beware the sand fleas on the beach! I was eaten alive from the knees down with their very itchy bites. Make sure you bring spray that will address this.
I was in room 105 which previously received a bad review for roaches, and saw none during my 7 night stay. The room was clean, and well maintained. The resort staff worked quickly to resolve any issues such as the need for more towels etc.The diving was great, and the dive staff was well organized. They worked very hard lugging our equip. back and forth. The staff was attentive to our needs.I plan on making a return trip soon.
My party of seven were planning on spending the day at The Mayan Princess. I have been to the Resort three times in the past. I had a great time in the past. I have called and emailed multiple times using all the correct phone #s and emails with no response. Just want to secure a Day Pass.VERY DISAPPOINTED. Looking for another resort for August 7. Any suggestions?
