I came here for my 30th birthday and while I don't regret coming to Roatan I definitely will not be returning to this resort. First of all I booked a shuttle to pick me up from the airport and while my flight was super delayed arriving I was in constant contact with the reservations team about my arrival time. I waited over an hour for a shuttle to finally show up at the airport. The trip from the airport to the resort is about a 25-30 min drive on very windy and very pothole ridden roads. The room I had was nice enough. Big comfy bed. Nice kitchenette. A few feet from the beach. The bathroom wasn't as clean as I would have liked, there were a few dead flies in the bathroom window/shower area.I never made it to breakfast my entire visit due to the fact that it ends at 9:30 and I was on vacation so I wasn't getting up earlier than 10am. The buffet is the only thing open for lunch and the food is bleh. Nothing to write home about. The drinks were the biggest disappointment. Sooooooo watered-down. No matter what you order. I asked for a pina-colada, that was a joke. Strawberry daquiri- laughable. Finally I just asked for a vodka and cranberry...even the vodka was watered-down. I honestly believe they put water in the bottles of liquor. I have been to many many all inclusives so I understand the drinks will not be strong. But this place was unbelievable. Plus the bar-tenders are rude and seem to always be in a bad mood. By the third day (my birthday) I had almost given up on getting a good meal or a strong drink when I ended up with food poisoning. I was in bed and the bathroom for 12 hours. Thank God it didn't ruin the trip. The saving grace for this resort is the amazing water. It's crystal clear, warm and calm. You can walk forever and see to the bottom no matter how far out you go. Absolutely AMAZING. Now the beach its self is small and cramped. The beach chairs are on top of each other and there a panhandlers approaching non-stop. They are selling everything from food to massages. There are also guests from the cruise ships that come to the beach that can be extremely loud and overbearing. It makes an already small beach feel claustrophobic. For my first time to Roatan...it was interesting. Great weather, beaaautiful water. I would look into a different part of the island. Perhaps a less touristy area.
So we decided to go to a new destination for a change. Exit the classics like Cuba or Mexico, let's go to Roatán !Indeed, the sea is beautiful, and the snorkeling is just amazing.A great destination. But now, about this hotel.Except for 2-3 very nice people, the overall staff is just rude.Never smiling, don't look in the eyes. When you ask for a drink, they make you feel as if they do you a favor.Going for a swim in the pool and want a drink ?You better be patient and not too thirsty, as there is no bar at the pool, and the staff don't really come there to check. Very loud shows every night, including karaoke, in the middle of the place instead of a more remote place. It was right next to our room. It sounded loud even through the ear plugs, you know what i mean ?No hot water in the room for the whole week, even if the repair guy came, the reparation lasted for one shower.Otherwise, the room was nice and comfy.Absolutely overcrowded beach and chairs, because of course, there is 1-2 cruise ships voyageurs that comes spend the day at the hotel.Buffet was ok, but with very few variations. The cook doing the crêpes and tacos was great and smiling, though !The « Restaurant » that we had only one reservation for the whole week was the most funny. I picked « Bisque de Homard au cognac & whipped cream ». Yumm !So what was served was a kind of cold veggie soup with a scampi inside it's shell, cut in half. I could go on, a lot of stuff happened, but i'll stop here.I guess it all depends of one's past experiences and standards, but really here it was, from overheard conversations, a general discontent.
The accomadations are ok, the resort is clean, but the little things bothered me... They almost never had beach towels available (and this is a beach resort). I would think that the management would splurge and buy a sufficient quantity. Breakfast is only available until 9:30, so don't think about sleeping in and grabbing breakfast at 10:00 or 10:30 (so much for 'Island Time')... It seemed like almost half of the hotel's beach front was occupied by hotel dive boats, thus reducing the area available for swimming. The Wi-Fi was spotty unless you parked yourself in front of the lobby... Finally, I found service either hit or miss... some of the staff was extremely helpful and friendly while others were totally indifferent.
I have never written a trip advisor review but felt my current experience warranted one. We are currently still here. When we checked we were not given the room we requested. They refused to honour our initial request. Our tour operator spoke to them and they did switch our room from a poolside with one bed to a room with two beds. However the room they gave us is in the furthest section of the hotel, it is so dark at night that we never go back to the room alone. First time ever at a resort I don't feel it is safe outside the room at night. One small room but with two beds, no view except a dirty back alley, no chair to sit on and a shower that the tap is moldy and gross and very little hot water. As well the door is glass with only a sheer curtain and the outside light is do bright at night it lights up the whole room all night!! When I asked to speak to a manager they said no one was around they could deal with it. As soon as I mentioned a room problem they blamed the tour operator. I said but it was you who chose to replace our poolside room with a back alley room just because it had to beds. When I asked if they cared they both just shrugged their shoulders. Great custom service-NOT! There are a few decent things and will review them later!
Beautiful island, friendly people, staff very helpful and accommodating. The rooms very nice, beds very comfortable, Snorkeling was fantastic could just swim out to the reef. Walk down the beach to your left as far as you can feed the fish right from the beach. Eric the bartender kept us well watered and entertained went above and beyond to keep us happy. Sure knows his drinks. Loved the food and plenty of it. There were ten of us and no one had anything bad to say. Kayaks available for free, and snorkel gear to rent for 5 dollars a day from the dive shop on site.
