Mayan Princess Beach Resort

We did this as a tour on our Carnival cruise / an all inclusive day at Mayan Princess - and it was the most relaxing and enjoyable day on our cruise. From being met by Stirling - who was outstanding, to the incredibly stunning beaches, it could not have even better. The resort was lovely. My wife had a massage and loved it. I sat on the beach all day and read, swam and drank margarita's - fantastic. The locals walking along the beach selling things were respectful and didn't intrude. There was the opportunity to go on jet ski's, stand up paddle boards, parasailing and other activities (for a price) so plenty to do. I'd highly recommend it.
My husband and I stayed for the week of April 3rd to April 10th, 2017 for our 2nd anniversary . First time travelling by ourselves....it was a great vacation a few glitches but nothing terrible. Chose to share a taxi from airport to hotel with another couple and avoid the wait for bus and backlog at hotel when we arrived with the many others....we were checked in changed and on the beach by the time others began checking in 30.00 for 4 people and all of the luggage....same for return to airport so much easier and faster.......The hotel was nice rooms are like mini apts full kitchen large bedroom large bath and nice patios.....pool was usually quiet and clean ....beach was busy but nice and loungers were always available.....Snorkelling was great we went numerous times a day......it is great to walk to the end of the beach and the reef there is amazing with many things to see.....went on 2 excursions thru Sunwing booked with Eddie Paz and both tours were very nice...Kayak and snorkel ...and Island tour....both had stops at Little French Key this place is a absolute dream.....our tour guide both days was Jorge great guy lots of local information and very personable.....the only real downfall was the food was not great....it as okay but could be better ......small resort so I guess they figure the food buffet should be also.....al a carte restaurant (luna maya) is fabulous....had lunch off resort at Bananarama pizza was great and at Beachers food there was quite good as well. Food poisoning 1 night but only affected myself so believe it was just something didn't sit well with me as my husband and I ate mostly the same things he was fine......rooms were clean and staff was always friendly......overall trip was good and would definitely return.
We stayed two weeks at the Mayan Princess Villas. We was picked up at the airport promptly and greeted at the front desk by two friendly handsome faces of Marcus & Fredrick. They was very helpful during our stay. Our villa was ready. Yeah! Always a plus! We had a down stairs villa that was more like a condo. A sectional sofa that folded out to a bed, a dinning area, full kitchen, a nice bathroom with double sinks and shower / bathtub combo, and a bedroom with a king size bed. There was ample space to put your clothes...dressers and a large closet. There was a TV in the living area and bedroom. We of course packed our own shampoo, conditioner and cream but there was absolutely no need. Their shampoo, conditioner and cream worked way better than my name brand products. Johana our room attendant kept the toiletries and our water in the refrigerator fully stocked and she always added her special touch with the towel origami. The veranda was nice and spacious, but the furnature was not good for lounging. One quick trip to the beach and asked the great beach attendant Rufino for two lounge chairs. Being so close to the pool we could just go sit on our veranda and enjoy our view. Our villa was located central pool side, perfect quiet location if you don't want the beach or entertainment sounds. The landscaping was meticulous...amazing all in its own. The head grounds keeper Jose gave me a full tour and is very proud of his work, as he should be. Take a careful look and you will see that some of the bushes have more than one color flower on them. Some have more than four! If you look even harder you can see where he has grafted the different plants on. It is an endless job and takes many helpers to keep this place a paradise. Modesto was one of Jose's helpers and was a expert at wielding a machete and giving us fresh coconuts at a moments whim. Now on to the pool....The pool has many levels and wonders through the center of this oasis. I was beginning to wonder if Juan the pool master lived there! The pool was never packed when we was there. Even through holy week and cruise ships. It was an afternoon delight seeing how the beach can get contested and sweltering in the afternoon. At the reception area you will see a lovely waterfalls. The keepers of the falls are two iguana's that live there on top. A sight to see all unto it's self. They are fed well. We didn't go all inclusive, but we had the breakfast buffet everyday for the fourteen days we was there. I thought the buffet was very abundant...it would change up daily. Anything from freshly made omelets, waffles and local fare. We never did tire of the breakfast buffet.Omar and the rest of the wait staff are so attentive...these people put on some miles in a day! Saturday nights was the BBQ buffet night. YUMMY!!! Make sure you make reservations before two pm for any of their restaurants. We had dinner at The Beach Club (San Simon) one night. I had the Lobster Blue and he had the Beef Mushroom Melt. Delicious... I took it back to the room and had another meal form it. The Lounge and Bar mix masters (Calkett's) would have your drink ready before you asked. There was entertainment there almost every night and if it wasn't to your taste it was just a short stroll either way on the beach to find something to suit you Oh and before you go and pay two to three dollars for a soda check out their shop right beside the reception area. I finished up my Open Water Diving Certificate at the Mayan. My dive instructor Edgard was very professional and extremely patient. His calmness and demeanor got me through. Teddy the boat captain was professional also. They just made everything fun also.We did make use of their Spa also. A couples massage. Well worth the money. And the spa services was quite extensive. The beach is taken care of very well also, Rufino and the crew makes sure of that. All sandy bottom in front of the resort, great for a refreshing dip or a lengthily soak. The Mayan Princess is almost centrally located on West Bay so a short stroll either way is enjoyable. There was a vendors table right on the beach that you could purchase t-shirts (5$ American) and a good assortment of other items. Yes there are vendors asking if you would like to purchase something...it is their job. But a polite no thank you is usually sufficient. Yes there was a couple of short power outages, but nothing major. The only downfall I can say is not about the Mayan Princess but some of the tourist that can't seem to pick up their garbage. If you don't like crowds keep in mind of their holidays. Yes they like to enjoy their paradise also. We would definitely go back to the Mayan Princess and hope to see some familiar faces. The people that work here are very proud and make your vacation more enjoyable.
We just returned from an all inclusive week through Sunwing. The resort is gorgeous, exactly like the videos seen on line. It is only 60 rooms so all are very close to the beach and all surround the fantastic lagoon-like pool. All our meals were buffet style. Each night the dinners were based on various ethnic themes..eg, Asian, American, Honduran etc. The food was great although a bit repetive. The frest fruit was divine..they even had strawberries! All in all, I'd return there in a heartbeat.
Lovely, quiet & clean. Great location and very nice spacious accommodations. Restaurants are buffet which gets a bit mundane by the end of the week - but the service was always pleasant and the food tasty with lots of options. The Hotel Manager assisted me with organizing a private cocktail reception and the event manager (lovely young woman - and sorry that I have missed your name) took great care of this - even with a short power outage. Recommended for sure!
