Mayan Princess Beach Resort
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
We visited the Mayan Princess for one week in 2016, and liked it so much, we went back for 2 weeks in late Jan, 2017. The Mayan Pr did not disappoint. In fact, we did not want to leave. The food is always impressive. We did not get tired even being there for 2 weeks. I think the best part is; the resort is fairly small, so you get to know lots of people who are either visiting for 1-2 weeks, or those that winter there for 3 months. We stayed in a ground floor condo this time, and really enjoyed it, very comfortable. Now it is time to go to check out other resorts in the Caribbean, but we know we will definitely return to the Mayan Princess on Roatan. We recommend it highly.
Had a very nice stay at the Mayan Princess (11-19 Feb.) My room was a well kept, clean, and quiet. I was solo so went with the smaller, Queen Room, pool view. Service through out was very good. I had all inclusive package. No problems at Bars or Restaurants. Food very good and plentiful. Maybe a bit repetitious but with 3 meals a day (buffet) that is to be expect. Separate cooking stations at every meal for variety. I would not recommend the massages at the spa. Pricy and not that good;. Beach is very clean, pools great. I really loved the staff. I did not dive with Mayan Divers this trip - recommend West End Divers up the beach/short walk. All and All, very nice. I recommend, this was my 2d stay there and would/will go back. Best all inclusive in that part of Roatan. You can choose from Luxury to Standard level rooms.
We went to the Mayan Princess as an excursion from Carnival while docked in Roatan. We had lunch and drinks included. It was a bit pricey but was in Carnival's top excursions for Roatan. We had been to Roatan before on Carnival and went to Maya Key excursion. .. go there... skip this one. Our servers were nice, but you are hounded... I mean HOUNDED... for massage... hair braiding... buying trinkets... other activities CONSTANTLY... it is also about an hour too long for what is available to do. We stayed at the beach for two hours after lunch then moved to their pool area. The upside no vendors... the downside... there were a few... the bar where we got drinks was a much further walk away... no service in pool area... the pool was freezing... and small... and the hottub did not work. We were disappointed in this excursion and wished we had gone back to Maya Key instead.
We stayed at the Mayan Princess Beach & Dive Resort from January 9-16,2017. The resort is lovely and the grounds were very well kept. The pool is gorgeous! We booked with Sunwing and we were very disappointed! We book All inclusive vacations at least 2 times each year, sometimes 3 times. In fact we have booked our next vacation for April 2017and we did book it with Sunwing so I feel that this problem with Sunwing is a problem with their contract with this resort. We research extensively and always know what we are getting when we arrive which baffled me this time. We did the same research as usual but did not see the issues that we found listed anywhere :( There are 4 restaurants on property and if you look at Sunwing's site it lists all 4, 1 ( Luna Maya) is listed with just a small space between it and the others and has a note saying 1 dinner reservation per week. If you click on the sample menus this is the only restaurant that has prices listed so it makes it seem like you can eat at any of the restaurants but only 1 time for free at Luna Maya. This is not the case, that was the only al-a-carte that we were allowed for the entire week. Buffet was all we could have for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Now you would think the buffet would have lots of selection but not here. It was very minimal and they kept reusing the same food over and over. What you had at lunch would be changed up slightly for dinner then the next day redone again for breakfast or lunch. This is the only resort that I have ever had immediate scoots after every meal in the buffet for the entire week Well at least until we decided that our health was more Important than saving money so we went off resort and bought food. We actually paid to eat dinner at the beach club one night at our resort and the food there was amazing and only cost us $36.00 for 2 of us to eat dinner. $36.00 is not a lot of $ but we would have been much happier if this was included with our all inclusive package. Also, when you go to the bar, Sunwing guests have a different color of wrist band so you are handed a drink menu that actually has Sunwing printed on it and these were the only drinks we were allowed. Also, unless we asked ( and usually got a not so friendly look ) drinks were served to Sunwing guests in paper cups with paper straws. Now I understand that they don't want their glasses taken out to the beach and paper straws are much better for the environment, paper was fine on the beach. But when we were all dressed up for dinner and went to the bar for a drink I would have assumed that we would be given real glasses not paper. Other guests had a greater selection of what they could have to drink not to mention they were allowed more al-a-carte dinners ( for example, one guest that travelled Air Transat said that they were allowed 3 al-a-cartes per week.) I would recommend this resort but only if you are travelling with another company or if you do not book the al-a-carte option. The rooms were large, clean and very nice, the grounds and pool were amazing. Some of the staff were very friendly, while others didn't glance at you at all. The beach area is nice, just too busy for us. We prefer a quieter beach. There are up to 3 cruise ships that come in 6 days a week and the vendors don't want to miss a sale so they really do push their goods for about 4 hours each of the 6 days. We found that if you said no thanks they would walk away but if you tried to ignore them they just walked a little slower until they got your attention. Roatan is a beautiful island, I would just suggest doing it a different way than all inclusive. Also, another downfall for travelling Sunwing, they do not include the export tax ( $49.50 US) that we had to pay per person to leave the country coming home. Other travel companies included this in their price. Our travel agent did not tell us this information but during our research we did see a note about this. Set aside $50.00 US per person so that you are prepared at the airport. We did snorkel off the beach, saw lots of larger fish, even an angel fish, beautiful. We did a morning trip to Gumbalimba Park ( highly recommend doing this) the nice part is that the monkeys are free to come and go and they looked so healthy. They climbed on our heads and shoulders, it was pretty cool. We also did a day trip to Little French Key, it was a fun day, a chance to relax a little without vendors on the beach but there is a little bit of rocks in the water here so I would recommend bringing water shoes with you. We also visited a little park about 2 minutes from Little French Key. here the monkeys were caged and didn't look as healthy as at Gumbalimba Park. The reason we visited this park was only because we had heard they had sloths here and it was on my bucket list to hug a sloth. This was by far the highlight of my trip to Roatan. I was smiling for the rest of the week! We probably won't go back to Roatan only because there are so many places that we still want to visit but I am glad we went this one time, it is a beautiful island and the snorkeling was great. We don't dive but it really is a dive community, If you dive I am sure you would love it here.
Excellent hotel !!! Hospitality is amaizing , good food and really clean and nice hotel , buffete is the best bufete os West Bay , you can est Lobster every single day of the week, if they can include "entretaiment" I bet you will be best hotel of Roatan
