Home away from home!

A repeat customer...we love this property in the heart of Rome. Minutes from the Spanish Steps and only a 20 minute walk to the Vatican...which is truly one of the greatest walks and destinations in the world. We walk alot in Rome, one of the great very walkable cities in the world, and the best part of the day was returning dog tired yet satisfied to our home away from home to the friendly and comfortable environment of the Hotel d'Inghilterra. From Georgio at the front door to Saskia at the front desk, we were genuinely treated like royalty. Our compliments to all the staff, too numerous to mention, and to the leadership of the Manager Colli. Our fabulous room had a balcony with french doors, when opened, let in the warm Italian sunshine and muted street sounds which added to the ambiance. Breakfasts are the best in Roma. Sadly, we had to depart but joyfully and prayerfully, we will return next year!! Grazie mille.

Opulent place

We visited the hotel yesterday evening for a couple of drinks as walked passed and it looked lovely. We got talking to Marco (manager I think) who really went out of his way to make sure we were enjoying our time there and in Rome. Whilst professional he was chatty and smiley. Me being nosy he offered to show us around. Beautiful place - traditional and really classy. The new restaurant looks really opulent and tasteful. Really impressive. It looks like a lot of effort has gone into it. We have a few days left of our visit to Rome and will definitely be going back during this time. We have found customer service in Rome to be sometimes abrupt but Marco has changed our thoughts on that - hence the need to write this review. Thank you for going the extra mile Marco. We look forward to seeing your friendly face again soon!

Disappointing - once a great hotel, now only fair at best

The hotel is being renovated - scrubbing out all the style and history and leaving the rooms generic and characterless, Excessive use of mirrors and clear plastic furniture to make it look less cramped. The downgrading of Roman hotels continues. Staff - however - remains excellent.

Like a comfortable old pair of slippers !!!!!!

Hotel D'Inghilterra in Rome is a comfortable old friendly haven in the heart of this wonderful city. However, I do not feel it merits its 5 star rating.The location is excellent. The Staff were wonderful ( especially the young lady who checked us in ) The communal areas of the hotel were very nice, the bar is small but quaint. The junior suite, although reasonably sized was in HUGE need of updating. quite a homely, old feel with a lot of mismatched worn furniture, and colour scheme from 25 years ago ! The bathroom was very small and fixtures and fittings very dated ! NOT what you would expect from a FIVE star hotel. Having said all this, the mattress and bedding were superb, beautifully clean and fresh.I understand that the new owners are planning a renovation. i would love to come back when it's completed.

Best sheets I have ever slept on

I've stayed here four times. The welcome from all staff is so heartwarming you don't want to leave. Everybody addresses each and every guest, intrusively. The bedrooms are a little tight but wonderfully comfortable and exceptionally well laid out. The sheets are so fantastic. Bathroom again a bit tight but you have everything you could ever want. Buffet breakfast top class with excellent service.
