Grand Hotel Beverly Hills

I had read some awful reviews of this hotel (one described the carpet as "infected"). They were refurbishing the restaurant and bar area while we were there - which was mildly annoying but it looked like it would be much smarter - although why they put light grey carpet down in the bar area when it would obviously look stained within days, I have no idea. The marble tiles elsewhere could have just been continued. Our room was fine and very quiet, with a recently refurbished bathroom and good, if noisy, air conditioning. Other people had complained about the staff but we found them friendly and helpful - particularly the bar/restaurant manager who went out of his way to limit the inconvenience of the refurbishment - and gave us complimentary prosecco when we dined there in the evening. The location, at the top of the Borghese gardens, is good - with easy transport links.
The hotel is really old fashionable, the filter for the air condition were dirty (I'm allergic to dust). There are so many beautiful hotels in Rome with 4 stars. The staff was very nice but someone when I was having breakfast took 20 euro from my change purse. It's the first time it happened in a 4 stars hotel. I won't be back there of course!
Situated at top of hill near Villa Borghese Gardens approx. 20 mins walk from most sites in Rome. Nice spacious room. Unfortunately no toast at breakfast, but usual continental style. Some nice restaurants nearby.
stayed as part of a package deal for 3 nights bed and breakfast. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment in the reception area. The lifts are tiny - 4 people maximum - 3 with suitcases. As I was on the 3rd floor I chose to walk up and down. The safe in the room didn't work - used one of the safes in reception area which require 2 keys and I thought was much more secure in any case. The room was clean if old fashioned. the bed linen crisp and white, as were the towels. the bathroom was snug, filled with over sized sanitary ware for the size of the room. My biggest gripe was that the room door didn't always lock. Having reported this, the very same evening I couldn't get into the room as the door wouldn't unlock. A master key solved the issue, but left me wondering all night if it would open in the morning! As it was my last evening I packed and removed everything when I went down to breakfast in the morning just in case I couldn't get back into the room before the coach left for the airport lol! Breakfast was lovely, though no toast maker which I found unusual, and no fresh lemon for tea.Having said all of that it is a very nice clean hotel that looks grander then it actually is and the staff were all very helpful and I was happy. However, several people in my party complained that they could never get any hot water, so it does seem a bit hit and miss how you will fare.
I was there with an organised tour of Solos, so not my personal choice. However, it certainly served my needs well. It is very near the Borghese Gardens in a smart and quiet neighbourhood near the US embassy we were told. Alas, Donald Trump, was visiting for 24 hours and consequently all the roads were disorganised for his protection! My room on 3rd floor looked onto a courtyard which backed onto a block of flats, so no nice views but no noise either. My room was a bit dingy and in need of upgrading, but large with a very big bed and was clean and comfortable and plenty of good lighting. The en-suite shower room (I had requested shower only) was also clean, with good white fluffy towels and a large built-in shower cubicle. There was not enough room to put anything down, simply a rickety little shelf over the handbasin already cluttered with hotel "stuff"! Good hairdryer and lighting and plenty of large mirrors in both rooms. The room was very hot and the AC didn't seem to work well. It had a good, large desk/dressing table with large mirror over and a large TV, which I didn't use and free wifi, though complicated to access, and drops out every day - I needed help from Reception. Room walls are thin but luckily both neighbours on either side were quiet, as was I! The public areas are being renovated which did not cause any inconvenience, and I gather the rooms will also be upgraded, eventually. The two small lifts are inadequate for when a large group with suitcases to take up with them arrives. We were told cases could be left for porters to take up for us but previous experience told me it can take a very long time. The restaurant which we only used for breakfast, was adequate, buffet style, though decaffeinated coffee only available on request as Nescafe individual freeze dried packets. Surely they could have provided it fresh ground, as I use at home? There are plenty of reasonable restaurants within quick walking distance of the hotel.
