Average, but good value

I read lots of negative reviews before our visit, and was expecting much worse than what I actually found. I've stayed in much better hotels, but this one is really not as bad as some of the reviews would suggest. In March 2017 we paid approx. 190 Euros for 3 nights bed and breakfast for two people. I think that's very reasonable for central Rome, and for that sort of price, my expectations would not be too high. Staff were reasonably friendly and attentive. They were happy for us to store our luggage with them for several hours after checkout. Rooms are basic but clean. The shower has good pressure, but is from a hose attached to the bath tap. Towels and basic toiletries are provided. The only other facilities in the room were a minibar, and a tv with poor signal showing local channels only.Breakfast is a buffet of cereals, fruit juices, croissants, pastries, jams, rolls, ham and cheese. It's a limited range, but quite tasty, and you can eat plenty enough to keep yourself going till late afternoon. For a country world-famous for its coffee, the stuff served at breakfast was a real disappointment. The location is good. Rome has very good public transport and there are lots of buses nearby. We found we could take a leisurely walk to most of the big attractions in 20 - 60 minutes.

Wonderful visit

The hotel is situated approximately 30 minutes from the 'main attractions' of Rome. There is a metro line and bus stops a few minutes away from the hotel. The staff are really helpful and always manning the desk which is a plus when you're out late! The rooms are clean and tidy, not the biggest but that's no problem for me! The biggest 'problem' I had was there is no wifi in the rooms.. not too much of a problem as you can get wifi everywhere these days, all the restaurants and cafes have wifi! There was a funny smell when we first arrived, coming from the bathroom but as it was so warm we had the window open 24/7 so it soon disappeared!

An honest review

We were allocated this hotel after booking a three night trip to Rome through a voucher site and after reading reviews on here, it's fair to say I felt more than a little apprehensive. However, it definitely is not as bad as some people here are making out. The hotel was walkable away from the town centre - about 10 minutes from the Termini. Our room was clean and the maid came in daily to change the sheets and the towels. There was a minibar which we didn't use but it wasn't overly expensive and a safe that was free to use. The room was small but comfortable. The only minor problem we had was that we were in a room with a balcony and it caused a draft at night because the curtain wouldn't close properly. The breakfast was basic - cereals, bread, meat and cheese, pastries, yoghurts and fruit - but it all tasted good and was comparable to breakfasts we have had at hotels in Venice and Milan.Staff were helpful and friendly. They let us keep our cases there on the last day after we'd checked out.I think the star rating can be misleading. We stayed in a great two star hotel in Greece and were told there that in Europe, you can lose a star if you don't have a lift. So that could account for why Hotel Executive is a four star - just don't go with expectations of luxury. The whole place could do with a lick of paint but for the price we paid, I was happy. And we had a great time in Rome seeing all the sights - after all a hotel is just a base. Don't be put off by the wholly negative reviews.

Can be better...

Please do something about the smell and tell housekeeping to do not cut the power from the general switch after cleaning because the refrigerator will not keep the drinks cool. In rest everything was OK.
