Mercure Roma Piazza Bologna
- What's Included
Nice hotel close to the subway and easy access to the city center and to the area were you could find bars and restaurants . Very helpful staff. Room was good, clean and comfortable only the AC quite noisy.
In my 2nd time in Rome this month, I decided to try this other Mercure and ended up with the feeling it can be much more than it really is!One block away from Bologna Square, a very quiet yet lively area of the city, away from the mass of tourists but close enough by bus or tube, you hear nothing at all once in your room, in a side street. The building itself isn't at all appealing, it looks like an old office building from the Mussolini ages adapted into a hotel! It's hexagonal shape could have been so much used in an inventive way, especially the atrium in the middle. The triple room we were initially granted is right below the AC central, with a constant noise day and night of an airplane turbine, simply horrible - fortunately we got to be changed into a Privilege room, which was no better in terms of comfort. As I said before, it looks like the building was adapted into a hotel instead of being conceived as one. Rooms are really small, have a darkness that doesn't match a solar city like Rome, carpets are still unacceptably used, cracks and humidity can be seen on walls, tacky tiles decorate the room - it seems they forgot to join the 20th century and remained in the 70's or 80's!There is a small balcony on the Privilege floor for each room but it just happens to be a large one shared with all rooms and divided by a rack - where is privacy? The shower has no power, yet it wets the whole bathroom floor, which should really have anti-slippery stripes. The toilet is very efficient and extremely quiet, though! The worktop is so small and narrow, that the Nespresso makes needs to be put down to the floor, so a laptop can be placed on the tiny table! Internet is fast and very reliable as well.A suggestion I leave to ALL Mercures is to have 10% of their Privilege rooms with twin beds, not all of them with a king- or queen-size bed! What if two people who don't want to share a bed get to book the room, for example??Breakfast is rather frustrating, especially if you stayed in the Mercure Corso Trieste before. Not only is it comparable to an Ibis breakfast, you can easily choose not to pay for it and cross the street into a very nice delicatessen no minute away and eat much better and cheaper there!Staff is most friendly and always ready to help. They do not have been given, however, the autonomy to do more for clients in certain situations, only follow the script. The hotel is not a bad choice at all but I would only stay there again if the rate were extremely low and/or if the 'cousin' Corso Trieste is full. Management/Investors must urgently bring the hotel into this century, make it modern and appealing, or else it should remain just a side hotel in a side street...
Clean room, attentive staff, good breakfast. Staff very polite and punctual. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any one visiting Piazza Bologna, Rome. I visited Mercure around mid June 2017 with my family and i was really happy with my stay. Good place, close to metro.
We had a great stay at this hotel!! It is in a great location and the staff was awesome!! It was close to the transportation and great restaurants and it was in a very safe neighborhood. We would definitely recommend to everyone!!
We (my wife & I) stayed at the Mercure Piazza Bologna for 4 nights. It's a nice, clean hotel in a quite neighbourhood. No street noise is a definite plus. It's only a 5 minute walk from the nearest Metro Station (Bologna). The good thing is that most cab drives also seem to know the place. The staff is mostly very pleasant and friendly. They are happy to help with any queries and always willing to recommend places to go.The reason why I take 2 points away is that during out stay, the AC in our room was not functioning. I called the reception to have it looked at. On the first call, nobody bothered to come. We called again after about 1 hour and they then sent someone to have a look. Funnily though, it wasn't a technician but rather, the gentleman working behind the bar!! He came in, turned the knob a couple of times, said "this is maximum cooling and if it's not ok, then to ask reception to change rooms". That was it! He walked off after that. I called the reception and they did change my room. However, I was told "to come to the reception and take the key".I didn't appreciate the fact that we had to call 3 times for the same issue and they didn't once bother to call back to check if the problem is fixed. And I certainly didn't appreciate the fact that I was asked to come to the reception to take the key to change the rooms. And ofcourse, I had to take luggage myself to the new room. I expect that at the very least, if they mess up with the room, then atleast have the courtesy to send the key upstairs and some people to help with the move. Hospitality 101.Then at check-out, they didn't seem to know the discounts that apply to Bienvenue members and we kept being told that we should have told them that we are members every time we ordered something. If we've booked a price through their Bienevenue website, then it's kinda obvious that we have the card! I don't see why I need to announce it every time I order something.Anyway enough with the problems. The other thing I like is the fact that they have 3 different options for breakfast with 2 quick breakfast options catering for those in a hurry. So summarise, the stay is comfortable, the price decent and aside of a couple of minor problems which they really should be able to address easily, the hotel is a comfortable place to stay.
