After sampling 4 different hotels in Italy over the past month, I can tell you the situation at the Worldhotel Ripa is pretty much on par with other hotels in Rome. Namely, the investment in maintenance of the property is almost non existent. My room had so many black marks all over the walls from luggage bumps that it looked as if it had not seen a coat of paint in 20 years. The AC barely functions, the furnishings are worn and dated, etc. In pulling a plug from the wall, the metal (?) socket plate fell off the wall and shorted my plug causing a huge arc and blown breaker. On the pro side, I can say that the location is good, easy access to tram 8. The restaurant is superb but who really wants to eat in the hotel when Rome's 5 million outdoor cafes are at your door step? The lane to the hotel is quiet and the hotel uses candle light in the lobby, bar and outside the hotel to create a very peaceful mood - best touch by far the hotel has to offer. One other bizarre thing, the key is attached to a fob about the size of a ping pong paddle so you have to check it at the desk. Are we still in the the 1970's? Better tell Worldhotel management the rest of the world has moved on to key cards. If I were you, I would seriously consider some Trastevere Air BnB options which I will now do exclusively in Rome. You get much more bang for your buck.
I really liked this hotel and I strongly disagree with anyone saying this is quite far away from the city center. One has to bear in mind that Rome is quite a huge city and I quite fancied this location as it was just a 15 stroll to Colosseum for instance. The breakfast was ok and the staff seemed to be quite familiar with talking English. The restaurant and bar at the hotel was more than good enough in terms of quality as well, and there were alot of great nearby restaurants. However, what really bothered me with this hotel was the air quality in the rooms. It`s just not acceptable to sleep in so thick air. I can only imagine how hot these rooms get in the middle of summer and I deem the A/C insufficient which in the end biased my view of the hotel.
Set in the charming area of Trastevere this hotel offers everything you need for a relaxing stay in Rome. Rooms were spacious, clean and well kitted out with a comfortable bed and couch. Located only five short stops on the tram into Piazza Venezia it is ideally located for sightseeing and dining/shopping. We found the staff to be helpful and welcoming to our group and did everything to make our stay more enjoyable. The area of Trastevere is also home to a charming square of restaurants and bars for nights out.
Rooms, breakfast and reception lobby are nice but location is quite far from the city center. When we checked in here, 2 of our 10 rooms are not functioning well. Lights were busted and we had no electricity. We had to transfer to another hotel at midnight because the staff couldnt do something about the lights.
The interior is trendy, funky even, with a Vespa in the hotel lobby and lifesize stuffed purple ostritch in the breakfast dining room. Talking of the breakfast menu is international. We had a comfortable, spacious room and clean bathroom. A great place to launch yourself from and into the heart of Roman culture. We walked to most places, however taxis can be beckoned with minimal waiting time. Ripa Roma is located in Trastevere where there are numerous great little restaurants to chose from for supper. Suggest four days minimum to really explore the Roman Empire and Renaissance of Rome.
