Not a 5*

We booked after researching at great length and found that the reviews for this place were amazing and we wanted complete luxury. Staff- great, very friendly, accommodating, helpful and couldn't have helped more. Couldn't thank them enough. Room- poor. We booked a superior room with sea views for £1400 (four nights). Very small, basic, outdated, absolutely not 5*, noisy. Realistically a 3*. We got upgraded to a room much better (still not 5* but much larger with a nice balcony).Internet- absolutely awful, not worth asking reception forBreakfast- basic. Nothing fancy. Not particularly appealing. It was fine and we got by.Spa- lovely view and location. Had a couples massage and a pedicure. Basic treatments, they were fine, definitely underwhelming but incredibly overpriced. Communal areas- very picturesque and pretty. Ate out every night considering breakfast our feedback. In conclusion, we had a lovely time but felt we had been a bit robbed considering the standard.

Beautiful hotel in a wonderful location

The location was stunning. Perched high on the cliffs above the town, the view was breathtaking. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and the choice was varied and suitable for every palate. Lunch was excellent and served in a separate outdoor restaurant overlooking the sea. Dinner was very expensive and frankly, not worth the money. If you're looking for comfort and style, the suites in the Sieren wing were beautiful and far enough away from the hotel to not hear the almost daily weddings. Wifi is a major issue here. No matter how many times they say they'll fix it, they can't. They have 4G only and it's not enough to accommodate all the guests. It's very annoying that you can't even download emails so unless you don't care about access to technology, this might not be the hotel for you. It also fronts on to a very busy road with no footpaths so walking to town is not an option. The shuttle bus is usually available but booking in advance is advisable. Sadly, the general area around the hotel and nearest town are very dilapidated and litter is everywhere. The coast road to Amalfi and nearby towns is well worth a drive but litter spoils the view. It's everywhere!!

Breathtaking views!

This hotel is stunning! The views are spectacular and to wake up every morning to see the view was a joy! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The reception staff were particularly helpful in advising on bus and ferry times to go sightseeing. The food in the restaurant in the evenings we ate there was delicious and top class...although on the expensive side. Some points for other travellers...the hotel is situated in a stunning location but if you don't hire a car, you will need to rely on the local bus service to get any further than Vietri town. The hotel bus runs a limited service to the town during the day and evening but to go further afield, local buses are needed. To walk to the town is a good 20 - 30 mins downhill along very winding roads with no pavement in places and an uphill climb on the way back. The local bus service was very good though and we used this regularly. The breakfast choice was considerable but more variety other than scrambled eggs would have been welcome. You can have a very small boiled egg or an omelette but at an additional charge of 5 Euros. Overall a very pleasant and relaxing holiday in this beautiful area of Italy.

Great stay in Amalfi!

We really enjoyed our stay here. We had a room on the Siren Floor, which was very spacious, with a terrace, and a great view of the coast! Beds were comfortable enough. AC in the rooms don`t get too cold. Breakfast was included, which was good with the essentials (cereals, breads, pastries, fruits, meats & cheeses), I did not have the hot items (eggs, sausages) but they looks descent enough. Coffee was good. We ate in the Grill one afternoon for lunch, which was lovely and tasty. The poolside bar was convenient. All the staff were lovely and accommodating at all times, throughout the hotel. The outdoor pools and lounge chairs were perfect for an afternoon of relaxing in the sun. Parking was free which was perfect since we had rented a car for the week we were there for. They often have events here, so parking can be challenging, but we never had any issues. Only negatives would be that the location is at the far east side of the Amalfi coast, and although it may not look far from the busy central Amalfi area, with those curvy cliff side roads, it takes about 40 minutes. We didn`t mind the hotel location, since this area was a lot less touristy, quiet and close to Vietri sul Mare, which has some nice restaurants and shops. You have to go get the internet code every other day from the front desk, and the internet is spotty. Our bathroom had a bit of mold around the faucet, and the shower was a bit short for my husband who is of average height. Check your bill at the end, we had a few charges from the pool bar that were not ours, but it was fixed quickly and with no question. All in all, a great time in Amalfi, and I would return to this hotel!

High hopes....completely dashed..

Let me be very honest, I don't like to criticise a hotel so harshly but this place needs a complete overhaul if it has any intention of being open in a couple of years time. Here was our experience:We booked three nights stay in hotel raito as part of a months trip to Italy for our honeymoon. It cost us £750 in early July. For this price we were sold a "superior room with a partial sea view" the pictures attached are what we were given. The room was tiny, dirty, had broken furniture and we were appalled that we had paid this money for a "5 star" hotel. There was nothing 5 star about it. My husband complained and to be fair the manager upgraded our room which was slightly bigger but had the most spectacular view, we accepted this room and were thrilled. We were also given free access to the spa during our stay which we greatly appreciated.The room was warm, the air conditioning vents are tiny and do not provide enough cool air to make the room comfortable. The shower in the room was a corner one which could hardly fit myself a small sized female and my husband could hardly fit in it, an average size male. To add to this the shower bracket was broken so we hosed ourselves with the shower not making it a very relaxing experience at all.That first night we decided to order room service as everywhere around the hotel was shut due to a festival taking place. We ordered a salad, a ham and cheese toastie, chips and a tiramisu. The food was disgusting, honestly we were shocked at how they could get such a simple dish wrong, but they did. The hotel charged us in total for the above €61. Needless to say we never ate there again and found a brilliant place which we will review separately in the local town called "Il principe e la civetta" ran and owned by Antonio. If you make the mistake of booking this hotel, do yourself a favour and get fed by Antonio, it will brighten your holiday, he is fabulous. When it comes to wifi to be honest it is not the hotels fault entirely because all over Italy there is very slow wifi but it continually cut us off and we had to use several passwords from the reception which was a hit or a miss if it would work. We went a day and a half without any access to internet because it wasn't working.The spa....the hotel normally charge €20 per visit to the spa. Now kindly we had been given free access to the spa, if I had paid the €20 per visit per person I would have been upset. The swimming pool has broken buttons inside for the water fountain, there also was an "emotional shower" (it's moulding and broken so don't risk going in) a "Turkish bath" which is a steam room and a sauna. It's all tired, really tired. They provide you with water, tea and charge you for coffee. There is a wonderful view from outside the spa area which is breathtaking.All in all we were very glad to leave this hotel at the end of our stay which was a shame as we had exceptionally high expectations as it's sold as a 5 star resort. It appears the owners have never reinvested in it since the opening in 2008 and it really shows. The staff I felt so sorry for, the amount of complaints they must receive will be immense and that really can only be demotivating for them. Some staff were amazing for instance the gentleman who ran the shuttle bus service, a waitress in the breakfast room was wonderful and kind to a family and their children keeping them occupied so that mum and dad could eat their breakfast. Other staff required some serious customer service training as they clearly had none, didn't know how to appropriately deal with our complaints at the end of our stay and put the blame back on us. It's so disappointing. We had high hopes which were completely destroyed when staying here. Please save yourselves a disappointment in booking this hotel, you will spend a fortune and not get very much in return, certainly not a 5 star resort experience.
