We rented Villa 89 for a family Thanksgiving vacation. Janice, our cook, made the most wonderful breakfasts and her Thanksgiving feast was a real wow! Jamaican jerk turkey will become a favorite at our upcoming dinners. Cecil, our butler, was a fountain of information, always available for rides to the main hotel, and made any of our "problems" disappear. Joy kept our rooms immaculate and made life easy for us. Thank you Cecil, Janice, Joy and Half Moon for a relaxing, happy vacation.
This special trip ended beyond my expectationsWe choose Jamaica for our 30th Anniversary since we spent out honeymoon there in 1986We wanted a romantic, relaxing high quality resort, and our short 5 days there were beyond our expectations .Literally from the first minute there until we left, it was the most relaxing, classy, friendly resort we have stayed. Be aware the various restaurants are High quality, but not overly complicated .Be prepared to spend a fair amount of money for food, optional activities,drinks,etc..BUTDuring our stay, and now looking back a few days later....Well spent for a fantastic high service, high class, totally relaxing trip this place is a jewel, and the entire property which is huge is totally attentive to each and every detail. Aside from the size of the property, we felt very secluded, and totally enjoyed every moment of this tripFrom the ocean front suite, to the highly trained and beyond friendly employees, to the beautifully maintained and relaxing environment, we were beyond satisfied with the choice. Highly recommend this as a great hidden jewel
if you are NOT a reasonably polite person who tips when you get wonderful service, please don't go to jamaica and ruin it for the rest of us. These are hard working people who deserve your respect and will generally make you laugh the whole time you are there while trying to ensure you are comfortable and totally catered to in a foreign place. They are also very grateful for your appreciation. My 11 year old daughter and I went by ourselves and I felt so safe, we laughed so much and we saw and did so many wonderful things in 4 days. It was our best short vacation ever. And it was because I was grinning when I got out of the cab and got met with the biggest smile from the bell captain and every employee there. I never even had to go the concierge. They booked every thing (except dolphin -book dolphin way ahead over email- if you hate the dolphin idea you won't here - i can't explain it -except they aren't in a cement pool and they love their people), don't miss the luminescent bay, the jerk shacks on the main road outside the hotel grounds (great grounds) get bikes. We road everywhere on the property. We loved the jamaican dolphin staff, (not so much the non-jamaican staff) we had fun with the dolphins and their caretakers. all day. we went back to lunch in room and I think they called to see if we wanted them to pick us up in golf cart to come back. It was a 2 minute walk. It was just laid back. Bell captain got us a guide to the Martha Brae River - do this- near by- it started to rain when we got there but driver had insisted on giant umbrellas from half moon and then our wonderful raft captain set up the umbrellas above our chairs and we coasted down the river like queens while everyone was trying to take cover. Yes your driver knows the raft captain, thats a good thing, Buy a tiny hand made raft and a beer or cola from the captain's friend at the hut half way down the river for $5. Its what you do. And the raft is the best souvenir you will come home with. skip the shot glass. You can buy beer or juice or cocktail at bar at beginning of float trip. Your driver will meet you at end. It is truly beautiful and tropical and there is a friendly atmosphere. Again, you start out friendly, and let your captain know if you are nervous or scared around water and he will make you feel safe. They are professionals and this is a hard living and they smile and sing the whole way, it is their job. Its like going back in time. THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT THIS HOTEL IS ALL THE FOOD. IT IS BAD. I do not understand why i cannot get a plate of jerked chicken and rice and peas. We tried the fancy restaurant and the cafe. Both were worse than airplane food. And the price of a kobe steak restaurant in Dubai. And for god sakes, please someone get rid of the convenience store rotating hotdog cooker at the pool. Rooms are dated but so darn comfortable and huge and bright, green grass and blue water views, we just couldn't care less about the cheap 80s tv cabinet and furniture. And again, the staff, the rooms are so clean. If they went local food this would be the best place on earth. Breakfast is fine. Again, tell bell captain you want to go off property and you will eat cheap and great!!!! Remember that much of hotel is catering to the villas with chefs. I have to assume this is why the food is so bad. But don't get mad at me half moon, we think you have a magical one of a kind place, except the food:)
My family and I have been going to Half Moon Resort for 11 years now. Every year we have the time of our lives. There is so much to do for all types of people, such as relaxing at the spa, taking a sail on a hobie cat, playing tennis with their wonderful tennis staff, working out, going to the pool, or even just relaxing on the beach they have it all. One of the first things I noticed when we went for the first time was how friendly the staff were. They are always making sure we are satisfied with out time there and do everything in their power to make us happy. One thing I don't like about Half Moon is how much I eat due to how unbelievable the food is. There were three different restaurants I believe, and the kid's favorite, room service. The rooms are second to none, always immaculate to say the least, and commodious. If you are planning to go to Jamaica for a vacation, I would strongly suggest going the to Half Moon Resort.
My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary at Half Moon, and we loved it from the beginning to the end. The resort is very well run, clean, elegant and accommodating. The grounds are beautiful and immaculately kept. The service was wonderful - efficient and very polite - from the service at the restaurants, to housekeeping, to the beach attendants...we were delighted. Tips were never solicited but always appreciated when we offered them.As someone with very pale skin that burns easily, I loved the fact that it was so easy to get a spot on the beach where you could enjoy being there while still being protected by the shade from the palm trees. The bathrooms are stocked with good quality shampoo, conditioner, after sun gel and body wash. Beach towels are provided daily. They provided an insect repellent spray too, but we barely used it because bugs were usually not an issue. When we went to the elegant Sugar Mill restaurant, the hotel had told them in advance that it was our anniversary dinner. Not only did we enjoy excellent food and service, after dinner they brought out a wonderful little chocolate ganache cake as a special treat, as well as a thoughtful card which we will keep as a memento of that evening. The resort is not inexpensive and we felt we got a really good deal booking the package through JetBlue. We felt that doing the all-inclusive meal plan ended up being cost-effective, since the a la carte prices were pretty high.We were there at the same time as a convention and a wedding, and even with the hotel operating at that high capacity we never had to wait to be seated for a meal and there was always plenty of space on the beach. We would enthusiastically stay here again. And plan to!
