My sister and I needed a week together. I had been to Half Moon before but she had not. From our warm greeting at the MBJ welcome desk for the hotel, to the amazing service we received at the Front Desk, we were enjoying the experience before we even got to our room. We were right on the beach, able to hear the soft waves at all hours of the day and night. Everyone who works at Half Moon has a genuine desire to make sure you enjoy every minute of your experience. The breakfast chefs found out we were returning Jamaicans, and every morning they cooked a local specialty just for us. The groundskeepers bring fresh picked coconuts to the beach for visitors to try. The Sugar Mill Restaurant is as good as any 5 star restaurant in a big city - but you are surrounded by the sound of crickets.Be warned - this is a casually elegant hotel. There is limited evening entertainment especially in summer. This is not a hi-rise generic hotel. Half Moon is old fashioned Jamaica with charm and character. If you are looking for non stop action and air conditioning in all public areas, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for the real Jamaica, and a chance to experience Jamaican warmth and hospitality, then go to Half Moon. Experience the championship golf course. Play on world class tennis courts. Ride a horse into the waves. Spend a few hours in the delightful Fern Tree Spa, getting massaged with rum and coconut and lime oils. Soak in the sun, the sea and the atmosphere. This is my paradise on earth.
Wanted to send a note about our trip back to Half Moon. Back in 2016 we knew that our 50th wedding anniversary was quickly approaching and we really should plan something special to celebrate. We thought about a trip to somewhere we haven’t been, maybe another cruise, etc. We then said, “hey how about going back to where we honeymooned?” We decided yes, that is what we will do. So we contacted Half Moon and set up our return. We can assure you we have no regrets now that we are back home. The accommodations were wonderful, as well as all the staff. We had great fun at the bar at Seagate with Kimberleen, Nicholas and Willis, among others. Great personalities and very attentive. On Friday last, 2 days before our actual anniversary, we had drinks and dinner at the Sugar Mill where we met Desmond, Sharon and Paul. Again all very helpful and very professional. I’ve been having some palate problems since starting a new medication and not tasting things as usual. I didn’t finish my meal that night, and when Chef Christopher saw this, he came out and wanted to know if everything was okay. I explained to him that it was me and not the food. We talked and we told him we were back for our 50th. He suggested that we come on Sunday, our anniversary, and he would make something special. We did and had a wonderful meal and anniversary cake. A special thank you to the folks at Sugar Mill. We would be remiss not to mention the Bell Men who took care of us for the entire week. Never had to wait more then 5 minutes anytime we requested a ride. A special thanks to Paul, Richard W and Ernest but also to all the Bell Men that we had contact with. Our suite was wonderful and we spent long hours reading by the pool. It was the perfect setting for our 50th Anniversary.
Looking for the perfect getaway? Book Half Moon. Think old school luxury without the fuss. You may have heard it's under renovation but rest assured you will hear nothing. It won't affect your stay in anyway. Gorgeous expansive property with so many ways to pass the day. Day 1-rent a golf cart to acclimate yourself. The property is huge, and it's a good way to discover the myriad beaches and pools throughout.Spa - do a massage to unwind with one of their 45 devoted staff on your first day, and wrap it up - lavender or coconut your last day for oh so soft skin on your last. We also swam with the horses - my first time on one - Trina and her expert equestrian team will guide you. Our guide Mark was patient and reassuring, resulting in a once in a lifetime experience that I would do daily had I known how fun it was going to be (we waited until our last day to book, sigh.)Think about booking the all-inclusive package (wishing we did): great onsite restaurants, notably Sugar Mill and Il Giardino (the chef is from Naples, Italy). Real foodies will LOVE Sugar Mill: mostly organic, locally sourced, with ample choices for all, even vegans (coveted my husband's salad). Great wine list too. Oxtail ravioli is a must, as is the sea bass and foie gras. The most meticulously clean kitchen I've ever seen. Chef and team super talented. We veered off-site once, for a delish visit to Scotchies for dinner. It's a 10-minute cab ride from the hotel.Staff:guest ratio seemed to be 1:1. Graciously anticipating what you want, always with a smile. Great staff, prompt service.Half Moon epitomizes warm hospitality. Cool international guests make for informative conversation on the beach - or one of the many pools. To paraphrase a friend (who happened to be the former US Ambassador to Jamaica) you can leave the property, but why would you want to?
Came to Jamaica for a conference at one of the all-inclusive resorts down the road. Fortunately they were booked and I was able to stay at Half Moon. Beautiful grounds and public spaces with an old world elegance. My room is steps from the beach and is very luxurious. The best part of the stay is the staff. Every single person here is top notch. Very pleasant and helpful. If you are looking for wild pool parties, DJ'S thumping and lots of activities go elsewhere. This is a place for relaxation and luxury.
My wife and I enjoyed a perfect wedding anniversary trip. Everyone at this resort is so nice and helpful. The beach stretches the length of the main part of the resort. Every amenity you would want - Olympic lap pool, separate big pool with swim up bar, large fitness center, tennis courts, and rooms/cottages are great (ours had a semi-private pool).
