Pricey for the quality of some aspects

Recently stayed at Iberostar Grand Rose Hall for a 5 day getaway. Hotel itself is beautiful, and overall the staff is very accommodating. I wanted to give 3.5, but Expedia doesn't allow for that. Here's a breakdown of the good and not so good.Facility: 4.0Very clean, luxurious hotel. Nice amenities. Bed was just okay, had a big dent in one spot.Staff: 4.5Most were very friendly, some not quite up to snuff.Availability of Alcohol 5.0Many people go to all inclusive for the free booze. There are ample bars, one open 24 hours, and stocked mini-bars in the room. You can always find a drinkQuality of Alcohol: 4.0Decent selection of liquor, good bar drinks (I acquired a fondness for Mai-Tai!)Quality of Food: 2.5This was a major disappointment for us. The buffets were adequate, maybe good. The sit down dinners were quite disappointing, especially in the Italian theme La Toscana. Quality of Wine: 2.0Very limited wine selection, most in the 80 point range. Even the pay for wine was very limited. They didn't have ANY Italian wine in the Italian restaurant. Same wine was in all restaurants. Not good.Spa: 3.0Expensive, and aside from the pools, not particularly impressiveSpa staff: 4.0Very good servicesFor the price paid, I expected a bit more when it comes to the wine and food. If that is not your major focus, then it probably is closer to 4.5. I compared this to another all inclusive food experience, our Disney cruises, where the food is much better

Iberostar Grand Star Friends are the best!

This was our first time at Iberostar and let me say that it was AMAZING! From the time that we arrived until the very last moment we felt special. We absolutely will miss our Star Friends, Renae (Dimples), Vanessa, and Thunda. They greeted us by name every day and had us participating in most activities. Dimples, was extremely sweet and works really hard to keep you entertained. It seemed as if we had known her for years. We had a corner suite with a larger balcony that offered the best views of the oceanfront and also the pool area. Our butlers; O'Brien, OJay, and Shane were the best. They took care of our every need and went above and beyond to make this a special trip.

In some ways a 5 some ways a 1

So, I came here for a solo getaway for some quiet time and relaxation at the insistence of my husband. The place was not what I expected. I have been to several Adults Only All Inclusive resorts and this one has many positives, but I would NEVER come here again, as it is just not a good fit for me or what I was looking for. The positives: the people couldn't be any nicer and the food is pretty good. I only drink wine, but I did notice the liquor selection was fairly extensive so that may be a positive for some. Also, I did get an ocean front room and the Star Prestige package so really did have high expectations. Additionally, on my room requests specifically wrote "QUIET LOCATION". I was placed in building 5. If you are seeking solitude or quiet - ocean front in building 5 WILL NOT work. During the day, under your balcony there will be loud volley ball games. At night, there will be shows on the beach until 10-11pm, which completely impairs your ability to enjoy the balcony from approximately 3:00 - 11:00 pm. Another reason I would NEVER come back is the fact that there is no "quiet pool" or "preferred club pool". My favorite resort is Excellence Playa Mujeres and this is just absolutely no comparison, sadly. Not everyone staying at a resort wants to listen to a "Pirate Show or some horrible piano singer for a Valentine's show. Some who have paid for an oceanfront room would prefer to read a book and sit on their balcony at night and listen to the ocean. NOT POSSIBLE in building 5. Please if you are looking for a quiet destination but still decide to come here, ask for building 6. I am sorely disappointed. There are MANY better options for adults only, I am sitting here stuck inside my room and still my ears hurt listening to this horrible pirate show. Shoot me now! Maybe if i was drunk it would be palatable.

Second visit, just as wonderful as the first!

If you're looking for a 5*, Adults Only, All-Inclusive getaway in Jamaica, this is your best choice. We've just returned from a week at the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall, and it was, in two words, virtually perfect.Rooms: King bed, lots of furniture, large balconies with sea views, massive bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs and rainfall showers. Butler service is standard. You can customize your mini-bar, order pillows from the pillow menu, and will not find yourself lacking for anything. Some rooms have iPod docks. Some come with a full size bottle of wine. Some have both. If you're missing anything, you just need to call your butler, and it will be sorted out. There is some wear and tear to be found, but over all, the rooms are clean, bright, spacious, and luxurious. Super quiet, though admittedly we were on the top floor. No noise between rooms, nor from the hallway -- with the door that can be shut between the room and the entrance/bathroom/closet hallway, you are quite secluded. A/C kept us nice and cool, and the blackout curtains made for very sound sleep-ins. We could have done without our neighbour smoking on their balcony, but most balconies are fully enclosed on both sides, so it wouldn't matter. Ours happened to be one of the few with a partial wall between us and our one neighbour, so that was why the smoke came over. Not the hotel's fault, at all, though maybe some floors could have non-smoking balconies.Upon arriving in our room, we found the bathroom door didn't close, so we called our butler. Maintenance was on the scene in mere minutes, and when we ascertained that it was going to take an hour or so to fix, we asked for a new room. Just like that, we were transferring rooms with a bellman for our luggage. Only 1 hour lost. We then had people checking in with us that the new room was to our liking, which was quite conscientious of the hotel. Food & Drink: Five à la carte options, two buffets, a snack grill, and access to 24/7 room service -- it's really very good selection. Order breakfast to your room, or go to the buffet. There's BBQ lunch on the beach on special days, at least twice in our week stay. A snack grill at the beach open mid-day. Order to your room, even just for a bottle of wine, and relax. It's good food, with loads of variety. Is it gourmet? Not really. But it's quite good, especially the seafood and the Jamaican dishes. And they take great pains to meet all kinds of dietary expectations. Making reservations in advance for your first three nights is advisable -- just email the hotel and ask for assistance. From your arrival day, you can make reservations through your butler or any of the concierge desks through the hotel. Due to the weddings taking place at the hotel, we had two nights where no reservations were available to us (not that we wanted, anyway). We did buffet those days and weren't disappointed at all, especially since one was a beach-side Jamaican buffet of HUGE proportions. There's even a coffee bar (over at the Suites -- just walk through the hallways and you're there in minutes. It's hard to think of anything that's not available.A note... the house wine is okay, certainly better than some other resorts offer. You can ask for one of the white or red choices (3 options, I think) or a rose or sparkling. But what we learned on our last couple of nights is that you can also ask to purchase better bottles, from their wine list. Don't be afraid to ask -- they won't foist it on you, though. For liquors, the lobby bar is top notch, but you can ask at any bar for the higher end stuff if you need it. If you're drinking rum punch or G&Ts from 10am to 10pm, though, do you really need to go top shelf -- seriously, who's that pompous?Facilities: The three pools are good -- and having a quiet pool at the back is a lovely option for when you're tired of the hubbub. The beach is great -- sandy, long and sunny. Aside from the minnows and the odd sea wasp (?!), no worries about wildlife. If you want a spot in either pool or beach area, go early to grab one. Unfortunately there are guests who reserve spots in both areas, only to leave them unused most of the day. You can always ask staff to help clear away items that are clearly just there to hog a spot. Or just move the stuff and sit. There are ample chairs, Balinese beds, and tables and chairs available for everyone, if people just play nice about it. Beach towels are plentiful, and you can even avail yourself of the high-end sunscreen on offer for free in the towel area by the pool. Games are in the same shelter, as are some books in case you read all that you brought with you. DVDs are available in Guest Services, as well as more books. Entertainment: The Star Friends work hard -- they'll introduce themselves and retain names and maintain relationships with guests all week long. Nightly shows are well crafted, but the other things top it up even more -- we watched the Super Bowl on the beach along with about 75% of the hotel, and also enjoyed Pirate Night, held at the beach too. Daily fitness and fun programming is always on, and if you don't dig that, you can simply decline. Staff: We found everyone to be exceedingly friendly, courteous, and helpful. If you're lacking for anything, just ask. If you have questions, just ask. Being as it was our second visit, we knew our way around and how things worked, but we also knew to ask our butler or night butler if we needed anything. Bar service at the pools and beach can be slow, but that's because they're serving everyone there. We had zero complaints about any service, and were constantly being impressed by resort staff, from maintenance or security through servers, butlers, maids, and more. A FEW TIPS: 1. Bring lots of US $1 and $5 bills, and use them. If you run out, front desk will make change from larger bills (free), or even exchange foreign currency (fee). We tipped our butler $20 to start, and $5 to end the week. This was how we got good service, but it doesn't have to be that much. For sit down meals, we tipped $5, for buffet meals, $1 or $2. We burned through about $100 between meals, butlers, bar and housekeeping, but given that we were getting five-star service, I have no issues with that. 2. If you need it, it's there -- toiletries, sunscreen, towels, robes, slippers, umbrellas, it's all there. Pack your toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant and you're set. Okay, maybe a swimsuit, too.3. Just ask! If you feel it's missing or wonder if it's possible, just ask your butler or a concierge or the front desk. Chances are, it's possible. Be polite, because as always, this gets you further, faster. Some butlers are better than others, we know from experience, but in general, they're looking to help make your stay a good one, so use them. You can also use the Iberostar App to customize your stay, once you're on-site. It's not seamless, but it's effective. (hopefully soon they get the room service part of the App working, too!)4. Yes, the rooms and halls smell musty. Partly because you're seaside, but also because Jamaica has had more rain than usual in the past two years. It's not the resort's fault that humidity is high. Open your sliding doors and run the ceiling fan. Some rooms are mustier than others, so you can always ask for a new room if you feel it's too much to bear, but you'll still smell the musty moisture anywhere you go. Our clothes didn't smell when we got home, but they were all a touch damp -- that's how humid it is. 5. You don't have to ask for a sea/ocean view, it's in every room except the ground floor rooms. You don't have to ask for a suite. They're all suites. And butler service is on every room, it's not added on. If you are considering the Star Prestige Club at $60pp per day, I'd advise you likely don't need it unless you want your own section of beach (with the others who pay for the club). There are ample umbrella chairs and beds galore on the beach, so there's really little to be gained -- plus, you can order anything to your room, so why do you need those add-ons? But hey, to each their own.If you've read this far, you're doing well. I'll end with this. I'm a discerning customer, fairly critical, and this is my second time being impressed by the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall. Three years apart, but each visit amazing. This one, even better than the first. Highly recommend, for a five star, all-inclusive, easy vacation that doesn't come with a super-high, bloated price tag. We got more value and enjoyment from this than we have at any other supposedly 5* resort. For a lot less money, too.I know we will be returning again in the future.
