Nice Place

Nice resort, good food, great service. Rooms need shampoo and conditioner, a regular staple. Resort staff are very attentive and friendly. Beach was well groomed everyday. Specially restaurants were excellent.

Amazing staff, hotel let it down.

The hotel in itself is good, the restaurants always have fresh food out and no complaints there. even in the sports bar at 3am you've got burgers and hot dogs in the fridge if you are peckish. however there is no need to go anywhere else at lunch time other than chop chops jerk hut on the beach. amazing!! As i said in the title its the staff that make this place. from wendell, shauna and ray ray at the pool bar to clive, gawan and demoy in the sports bar. between them they couldn't have made us feel more welcome and entertained.we booked a trip to go on a catamaran cruise to margharitaville and snorkeling on the way. definitely recommend doing this but do NOT book through your tour operator. look for the scubacaribe guys on the beach. cost us a third of the price thomson were charging. The bad points of the hotel are the communication between the hotel and customers. the pool bar was drained for work a few days before we were leaving without any heads up from the hotel or thomson. also a few days in the lock on our room was changed without warning other than a note stuck to the door to tell us to go to reception for the new key.

October trip

We just got back from our 1 week trip to the Riu Montego Bay.First the Pros: The staff was outstanding, very nice and tentative to your needs, A big shot out to Jason and Superman in the dining hall, they were fantastic in the morning and for dinner. The resort it self was clean and nice. The room was clean and stocked every morning, A little dated but your not in your room much. Plenty of hot water. Beds were a little hard but all in ok.Make sure if you go that you stop in and see Chris at the Coconut Bar after 5pm, He was great and He will get your that right away.. (His famous saying)The Pool area was nice, There was 1 section closed down so everyone was in 1 pool, not to crowded though as this time of year its not bad as far as people go. There its plenty of water sports activity to do.Beach area was ok, Not much of a view as your are looking at the Sandals resort huts in the water. The Cons: Alcohol choices are limited especially if you are a beer drinker, only 1 type of beer(Red Strip), This was a big issue for us as we like other beers and it states local and domestic when we booked. We ended up going out and buying our own beer and bringing it back in, which you can do. During the day the premixed drinks don't have a lot of alcohol in them so make sure you ask for a floater. Food was ok, Jerk Chicken on the beach, best by far, Breakfast and Dinner buffets had a lot of choices as well, The specialty Restaurants, Not so good... There is no coffee makers in the rooms or room service, Snacks at night not good either, pre made sandwiches and nachos, so if you need want something late at night take it from the buffet and leave in your room. Riu, you need to do something about this, open up a hall with deserts and stuff from 11pm to 2am or something This needs improvement. The pool closes at 6pm ,which we thought was early especially if you wanted to do a night swim. We were told about the coupons you would be given at the resort, not much of anything there either, a bunch of spa coupons that were off the most expensive spa treatments. Check in and check were fast and easy, Just don't loose your bracelet or it will cost you 100.00, little steep for a plastic bracelet if you ask me..If you are lounging by the pool or in the entertainment area you need to get your own drinks from the bars, very few staff waiting on you, they will take your empties but not many will get you a drink. The entertainment was ok.. A lot of loud music and not much variety, The DJ also interrupting the music and was talking. If you want some vintage Reggae, not much , a lot of techno music. They should do a variety throughout the week. At night the only entertainment is in the main hall for the night show so everyone is in 1 place, need more variety of music throughout the resort.Do your homework on excursion before you go, if you can get it cheaper let the resort staff who try to sell you excursion this as their prices are higher. Taxi service is available at the resort , work with the driver because you can get a little cheaper. These guys are certified through the resort so they are safe and great people. Outside the gate you can get a cheaper ride just do your homework.

Amazing Trip with a Real Reveiw

Property- It a nice size, well planned out resort. It was clean well kept, gardens are nice. The pool did get drained ( bar side) The second day we were there, for repair. Service- This is a 2 part review. The beginning it was very low- Get everything your self, even if you didnt know where it was. Making you feel like an inconvenience.Get your own coffee. THEN, IT ALL changed!! IT was AMAZING!! Jason at breakfast was wonderful. Big huge smile. We had a friend start serving beer, at the pool, to everyone, then they took the tray and started serving drinks ( yes we were tipping) Not sure what changed...BUT WOW...glad it did! At the show, you get your own drink, they only take the empties..so lots of people are walking around. ( I think handing drinks out would be better)Rooms- They were clean, we kept and sheets changed a few times threw the week. NO COFFEE/TEA in rooms!!! For a 5 star, I guess I figured it would be there. FREE Wifi, is NOT AVAILABLE in rooms. Only in the lobby. I missed this when I read the reviews. LOVED the little bar in the room. We always had a drink in the afternoon on the porch, while it rained!!.The air planes were noisy at that time. But stopped at 8 pm. The welcome hat and fruit try was a nice touch. Keys to the room are real keys/ not cards. The only this the little bar has no juice as mix. If your not a pop/beer drinker. What a cute set up! Pool- We had one day with the swim up bar. We joked someone peeped in the pool. With no warning, it was emptied. On Our second day. But I guess every place has to do maintenance. The first day there was no bar on the beach. After to pool was emptied, the bar was added to the beach- that was nice. Right beside the JERK CHICKEN!! WOW, soo tasty! It delicious!! A must try.Bathrooms are a bit of a hike from the beach. They dont bring drinks around only collect empty glasses. The water is nice, the bottoms a bit mushy..but you can find places to stand on sand. Lots of loungers. Games if you want to play or watch. The water sports are easy to use and get to. most are in good repair. I did have a broken paddle, that I jumped of my paddle board to save. FOOD- Very Tasty, Lots of it. Mostly Buffet Style...even at the restaurants. The steak restaurant is a must try. Make sure you go to the upstairs of the lunch buffet. The view is AMAZING! Damion / Darren/ Jason are the waiters, to look for. They will make you stay wonderful. Remembering what you drink, asking if you would like it this time. Huge smiles, and really happy. Buffet Food was wonderful. ALWAYS lots of it. Fresh and LOADS to pick from!! Both pick what you want cooked, and ready to grab. The after hours food- not soo good. I could see were they had other stuff, like hot nacho cheese, with no chips. The sandwiches, just ok. So, watch the time when you pick you side trips. Eat before.Side Trip- This was a girls trip. We booked 2 Side trips. THE PARTY BOAT to Margartiaville, booked at the beach. -TOTALLY AWESOME- you leave quiet come back rocking!! The snorkeling reef is AMAZING!! Beautiful, the equipment, is all good. Saw soo much in the sea. Margartiaville was nice to see. Drinks are 10. We went up the street. Got asked "to get married, come see my store". regular travel stuff. It was no problem. Got back when down the side...its FAST!! watch your suit!! LOL. Learned to dance...not sure we could get away with that in Canada!! The other side trip- LUMINOUS LAGOON. It was ok. Boats really old. Felt sorry for the fire guy. The locals were watching us, like the entertainment. But really glad I did it. Cant wait to make the scrapbook and give the back ground on how it works. The micro organisms emit a phophorescent light. Entertainment Staff do a great job! Very hard working. Shows are good.Location- VERY close to the airport!! The place are noisy threw the day. You just wait, when on is over head. If you are chatting, till its gone. They stop at 8pm..so not a problem. AS FOR VALUE!! We had a great week!! Yes, I would use this resort, wish we had the heads up on the pool, and wifi, But we were a group of ladies. Felt safe, liked that we didnt have a long bus ride. Our room was the second floor. I like walking stairs. So it was great! Hope this was helpful.

Quick getaway

This resort was average. The hotel itself was clean and spacious. The welcome desk had friendly staff. The room was spacious and clean but outdated. I was only there for 3 nights which was not enough time. The food was delicious, they needed more vegan options. The beach area was clean and ample chairs. The pool area was the same. Great location from the airport and local destinations. Will return and will recommend.
