This was our first time staying at the Riu in Montego Bay, but our fourth time to Jamaica. One reason we picked this place was for the proximity to the airport. The airplane takeoff noise was not an issue. The hotel was very clean. No issues with our room. We were in building 4. Food was great at all locations. We did not go into the pool as we are beach zombies. We spent most days on the east side of the beach. Quiet and lots of shade. Staff are pleasant and cordial. Would return.
I am returning to this fab hotel on the 17 th June this year for my 50th birthday I can't wait I loved every minute of my stay here I cried going home lovely staff everyone so helpful I. Go on holiday about 4 times a year and felt so special can't believe people moan go and get a life and appreciate what is in front of you !!!! All I can say is roll on June x sue Murray I'm so looking forward to this holiday x
After reading some reviews i was a bit worried about what i was going in to l totally shouldn't of . It is a outstanding resort the staff are fantastic every where is clean the pool is the best place to socials whith all natcalties. The drinks are not watered like some review's suggested. the mango dacaryies ARE GOOD and as strong as you like the majority of the staff in the pool are pleased to serve you .about tipping because as British we are not that used to that you don't get treated differently if you tip or not you will know who to tip or not i didn't tip everyday but best tip bar staff at night and day as i think you get served quicker as they remember your drinks . Also if you have one of the thermos drinks container bring it with you as they fill it up with anything you want day or night. We stayed in block 0 above restaurants and reception and had pool view and sea view witch was great room was spacious and comfortable optics in the room RUM,VODKA, GIN MIXTURES IN THE FRIDGE AND 6 CANS OF RED STRIPE LARGER so you won't go thirsty. The food in the buffet restaurant is very good but it does get repitive but if you are a seafood fan like me you will be in heaven it is outstanding you name it it had it a few nights there was lobster tails biggest prawns I've ever had . We used the aisian restaurant and Italian because my wife struggling towards the end of the holiday and both are good you might have to queue but we got in no problem.and it's not as spread out as some reviews suggested and you can go outside side the hotel but be prepared to have a bit of hassel but they want to sell you the Ganger a firm no and keep walking is normally enough but they will do the same on the way back . Also the trips are expensive nearly all over $100 American dollars each some near $200 .we went in February their dry season between 29c and 33c but it rained once for about 20 minutes and when it rains in Jamaica they call it liquid sunshine😎😎😎 that's why it's the name of my review. And when you check out they cut your all-inclusive band of but don't worry because you still use all of the hotel drink and food before you get pn the bus. THANKS JAMAICA
Myself and my sister stayed here for 2 weeks in March, cannot really fault the place at all. Check in was fast and efficient. Then straight to the room. We took our own cases, but the regretted that as we had to get them up some stairs and we women don't travel light! The rooms are great, spacious, kept very clean all holiday, well stocked with beer and spirits, one small criticism is that we would have liked the water restocked daily as we like to keep rehydrated and can't always be bothered to keep going to the bar. But it wasn't a major issue. The beds were actually comfortable, it's rare that I ever go anywhere and find the bed to be comfortable, but here they were. Even the pillows weren't too bad. The main problem we had was noise from other residents. Initially we were given a room in Block 1 which was pool facing and we had to ask to move after a few days as we were woken many times in the night by loud drunk people. Reception moved us to Block 3 and a rear facing room and apart from one night, it was lovely and quiet. Although ladies, try not to clump around your room in your heels if you are upstairs and have people below you. It's noisy down below!I have read reviews of people saying the toilets don't flush. They do, you just need to hold the button down, unlike back home where you probably do a short flush.I don't know how anyone could fault the food here, we just used the main buffet restaurant the whole time and there were so much choice. The beach is ok, not quite paradise, but still pretty decent. I wasn't sure how I would feel about being So close to the airport, but it was actually quite fascinating watching the planes go over. And no long transfer times, bonus! All the staff were amazing, from the cleaners to the entertainment team. Christopher and Wendell at the pool bar were such fun. They were run off their feet the whole time the pool bar was open, but still kept smiling.Would stay here again for sure.
OverviewWe are a family of 5, 2 adults, with an 8 yr old boy and twin 6 yr old boys at the time of this vacation. Of the 15 different all-inclusive resorts we have been to throughout Jamaica, Mexico, the Bahamas, Cuba, St. Martin, Dominican Republic we decided to compare those experiences to the one we had at the RIU Montego Bay in FEB 2015 (even though the website made me pick choose a more recent date!!!) RoomFor this vacation, travelling as a family of 5, we required a family room, which by definition, room accommodations vary from resort to resort. We started in a first floor room, facing a perimeter wall and beyond that some service buildings with boasting some large fans/generators/flood lights…not a very appealing view. We immediately requested a change, and thankfully it wasn’t an issue, we stayed one night in the room and were moved the next afternoon to a second floor room with a garden view. We were very thankful, especially because we had a lot of rainy days in Mo Bay, it was nice to have a view to enjoy while hiding from the rain on the balcony. The real down side, was that a RIU “family room” is defined as 3 double beds in one room. Needless to say we were a bit crowded and bedtime was a problem…not ALL of us wanted to have “lights out” at 9pm…!!PoolThe pool was huge and even though the resort was extremely busy, the pool was large enough to accommodate all sorts of activities going on at any given time. Like any other resort we have been to, the norm is to be sure to get up early to reserve loungers. At this place I got up every morning at 6/6:30am and I was still able to find a few decent spots that weren’t taken, both at the pool and beach depending on what we were doing that day, but it was obvious that early rising was required if you wanted any shade at all. So unless the resort chooses to crack down, it is what it is. Seasoned resort goers seemed to be okay with it and adjust their schedule accordingly, but others were not so happy. The pool had lots of seats and tables near the pool bar, a very nice option to just sit in the pool and relax while enjoying a cocktail.Of note…the pool was deep, everywhere, there weren’t a lot of spots where the kids could touch…we had floating toys and stuff so they were fine, but had we not brought those they would have struggled swimming around…there is a small space where there are sunken pool beds, where the pool is shallower, but it’s also the only spot where people can relax on the sunken beds and likely don’t want to be splashed by kids!!If your kids are little and are not swimmers, be aware that as amazing as the pool is, it has very limited shallow areas where smaller ones can touch bottom.FoodThe breakfast buffet was great, lots of bacon, a must for our family ☺Lunch buffet was closer to the ocean, great views, decent menu. Mostly the same options every day but we expected that, it’s the norm. No one left hungry. The staff was amazing. The dinners…buffet was always very good, a decent variety of options. The fried chicken was particularly yummy! For some reason, wine was hard to get…I had asked for something out of a bottle (as served at the restaurants, I think it was Berringer) but it was apparently that was a huge problem…very disappointing…all inclusive does not mean all inclusive in that respect? The wine out of the barrel in the buffet…not exactly the same…The only a la carte we at ate was the Italian, it was good, but we were actually happier at the buffet!BeachAs mentioned, we have been to many resorts in the Caribbean, this one was probably our least favorite beach, it was pretty disappointing actually. It’s a nice little beach to walk but it’s a very limited walk, when we were there the water was very murky and weedy…one of our boys was stung by a jellyfish hiding in the cloudy water…not fun! But, that’s all part of the ocean experience…! Overall, the beachfront has a very nice view, but certainly not the best stretch of beach in Montego Bay, if that’s what you’re seeking. BarsThe swim up bar…great, but hard for our kids to swim to…as mentioned in the previous comments about the pool…!The main bar, by the entertainment, was very busy but the staff was always attentive and friendly.EntertainmentThe nightly entertainment was good; the staff was very energetic and really tried to keep the crowd engaged. The staff at this resort was absolutely fantastic. Always smiling, friendly, helpful.
