Arrived here Saturday 22/4/17 as the hotel we were booked into had a major incident. First impressions from the hotel was not a good one. It was really busy loads of kids making a noise. Reception area was dated and people everywhere. Not a good first impression. Not what we booked but under the circumstances didn't intend to remain here.No rep on site it's their day off even though there was a major incident on the island in the hotel Riu reggae there were no Thomson reps to support us or help us. We had to do it all alone having travelled for 9 hours and been awake since five am. Disgusting. Eventually got moved to another hotel which was even worse! But had to go as getting tired and annoyed now!
We got back from our amazing Spring break vacation at the Hotel Riu Montego Bay. This was my third time staying at this hotel! We would like to express our thanks to all the staff (management team, lobby, entertainment, waiters & waitresses, and housekeepers for cleaning morning and night). Special thanks to front desk – Delroy and Natoya! The staff at the restaurant work very hard and were very friendly. The food was wonderful with lots of selections. My favorite was ordering every morning personalize fresh smoothies from the squeezed juices station. Thank you Lamar, Tashadee and Christopher for making us feel so special every time we walked in to the restaurants.😇 The Entertainment staff were amazing with very talented dancers. The nightly shows were great, especially, the Riu night, Reggae night, Steel drum band and beach party shows was unbelievable (Thank you Berry the girls had wonderful time dancing with you at the beach party)Thank you again to all of you at Riu Montego Bay until our next vacation trip🙏.
If you like to walk on the beach as we do, don't choose this resort. You can walk the whole beach in 5 minutes. They rope part of the beach off for weddings, which seemed to happen every day. Very disappointing. That being said, there were some good points. there were always plenty of lounge chairs on the beach. There are free paddle boats, paddle boards and even small sailboats ( you have to take lessons for these). The rooms were large and very clean. There was excellent lighting in the bathroom. The shower heads were removal, with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The fridge was stocked with soft drinks and water, and there was a liquor dispenser in the room. Our housekeeper, Tanisha, was very friendly, helpful and competent.A big negative was not having free Wi Fi in the rooms. There were also no docking stations, so don't forget your adapters. The food was average fare for an all-inclusive. We had 2 meals at the Italian restaurant, and that was very good. When we told them we were celebrating our anniversary, they brought us some cake on a plate decorated with Happy Anniversary in chocolate. We ate once at the steak house. That meal was also very good. The only complaint was there was no coffee in either of these restaurants. The buffet had many choices. Disappointed in most of the melons, as it had little taste. They had various stations with cooks cooking items to order. One waiter in the evening stands out. He said his name was Superman, but his name tag said Durchon. He was efficient, very friendly , and alot of fun. We made it a point to sit at his station. The nighttime entertainment was enjoyable. The "crew" was always high energy and put on some good shows. They can dance! The beach party was fun, and the entertainment involving fire was really good. A shout out to Sunshine, Kupcake, and Berry. They work hard at chatting up the guests and keeping them involved. The resort offers free yoga and exercise classes held in a pavilion by the pool. I found this by accident, as it is not advertised. I enjoyed the yoga.I would like to especially thank the on site nurse, Norris for her help. Hubby forgot his diabetes prescriptin. With a phone call to his doc at home and a fax to the resort, we were able to get the RX with minimal problems. The customer service rep at the resort ( I forgot her name) made the stateside phone call possible. This resort is next to the RIU Palace. Those quests, who had less beach than we did, were able to walk over and use the Montego Bay beach, but we were not able to visit the Palace. A guest there, who I met on the beach, told me that the food was better at the Palace ( she had also stayed at my resort). The drinks were plentiful. They had a drink special each day, but would make you anything. Beware: there are new marijauna laws. There are guys on small boats that paddle along the shore all day selling souveniers, and also weed. There is no smoking policy in the building, but not strickly followed. I couldn't sit on my balcony on evening because of the smell of weed being smoked.
It's a specious resort with ample facilities on the beach. Impressive restaurant and variety of food. Nice pool area but some maintenance required to areas most prominent the fixed water loungers where many mini tile were missing. We were 3 siblings in a room for 4 nights and it was not cheap. Majority of the staff very friendly and accommodating. There is free wifi to the public areas and only paid for in the room.Remember I said we were 3 siblings in one room due to the cost of getting one person in another room which would carry a penalty. This is my problem which I wrote to customer services riu while I was there and got no reply except to auto generated email confirm the message was received by their server. Only 2 devices were permitted per room. We were 3 and I alone had 3 devices I needed to connect. Complained but go no feedback so be warned.Calling using wifi was also a no no as the quality was less than poor. The hotel is a few miles end of the takeofff runway, at times you see and hear the planes roaring as they take off and clime with engines at high capacity. Most times they fly over we had rot stop talking till they pass.During my afternoon naps , there are all kind of noises including staff calling out loudly in the hall which is tiled and concrete. Great for sound.Would I go again, if money was no object and we were even numbers , otherwise I would seek alternative.
This large family hotel has many pluses with two huge pools and a lovely peaceful beach. The rooms are spacious with a free bar but no tea or coffee making facilities unfortunately. There are 4 restaurants, one a buffet serving a delicious variety of foods, a steakhouse, Italian and a Japanese. The sea is calm although there is a lot of soggy sea grass to get through! The entertainment team are second to none, working all day on the beach and pools then putting on fantastic dance shows every evening which would give the West End a run for their money! They are lovely, friendly young people especially Sunshine. The only downside were the men on boats constantly trying to sell the guests marijuana. The water police arrived everyday but they always seemed to disappear until they had left! I would recommend this hotel to families, young people who like the music and people who like to lie in the sun all day on the much quieter beaches.
