My partner and I just returned from a week in Jamaica, we had the pleasure of staying at the Riu hotel Montego Bay . The whole experience was flawless. Our room was spotless, the food was unreal, entertainment was absolutely amazing, the pool and beach were stunning!! No complaints at all thank you to all the staff for your beautiful smiles and warm genuine energy we cannot wait to go back .Sylvia David and Rodger Retzer from Canmore, Alberta, Canada
We travelled to Montego Bay for the first time in Nov/16. This was a nice escape for my husband and I and we are quite happy to relax on the beach. Our first overall impression was that the Riu Montego Bay is a very well kept resort. The grounds are beautifully groomed and they were updating the buildings when we were there///glad to see that they were getting rid of the purple paint and everything is now white. The beach is nice, even though it is not very deep but we had not problem getting our lounge chairs every day We were in building 5 in an ocean front room, this is definately worth the extra as it was such a gorgeous view from there even though I do see why some people are upset about the Sandals resort that is being built as it does take away from the view a bit, The beachfront is in a nice bay so the water was pretty calm. The only problem that we did have was that the bottom is kind of slimy and weedy so water shoes do help with that We did try to snorkel but it was too cloudy. It was really nice being so close to the airport but with that does come the noise of planes constantly flying over, but, we did get used to that and kind of enjoyed watching the planes and trying to read what airline they were from. The staff at the Riu go beyond their duty to make sure that everyone is looked after and the entertainment crew always had something going on for those that wanted to be activel We did need to call maintenance a few times and they were quick to respond and took care of the problems efficiently each time.Probably the best thing about this resort is the food. We were totally in awe of how good the food was and the selection is incredible, The only alacarte that we did was the steakhouse and it was really good, The jerk chicken on the beach is awesome,Beach vendors are not allowed here but they do come in kayaks and do get a bit annoying. Security does do their best to control them though and mostly if you tell them that you arent interested, they will go on their way, We were going to venture across to the shopping center but did here some stories about tourists getting robbed at knife point so we decided to stay put, There is a really nice gift shop on site and the prices are very reasonable,I would like to mention that we were surprised that there were no clocks in the rooms so if you like to be aware of the time, then bring a clock with you,We also did find out (the day before we left) that they do have some kettles and coffee, creamer etc that you can have in your room but you have to ask as they are limited..we would have liked to have known about this as it was a bit of a walk in the morning to get coffee to bring to our roomI would definatey recomend this resort and do hope to return sometime soon,
This was our first time to Jamaica. We were looking for something decently priced with equally as decent a resort. We got what we were looking for. The resort was constantly in service and clean, the people were always friendly and happy to provide service. The entertainment staff were extra fun and friendly. Food was approachable yet had that essence of Jamaican culture which would make it comfortable for those guests who are uneasy about trying foods they aren't use to. There was always something to do on the resort. It isn't a big resort but thats what adds tor he appeal. The pool was as equally clean and comfortable as the beach. Rooms were always clean. The bar selection could have been a little better but it was still drinkable. Overall, a very relaxing experience.
My partner and I stayed at the RIU MONTEGO BAY on 09/10/16Until 23/10/16,first of all let me say that this review is my opinion. Up on arrival we were booked in and given a map and basically told to find our room ourselves , luckily a gardener found us and kindly took us to our room in block The rooms are a bit dated and tired but how much time do you actually spend in the room, sea view was nice ,but we were constantly being badgered by people sell all sort on the beach front .Entertainment is very good and the staff work real hard , just a few to say hi to Biscuit Cupcake Kash and Foxy Staff on the whole were very good especially Sharon Delroy Shauna Jody Shannon , unfortunately there's a lot of staff trying to impress the ladies and looking for a tip with each drink .This holiday was our first in the Caribbean and honestly it was a bit disappointing. We have been t other RIU hotels and I feel that this one does not live up to the brand name , but as I said at the start this is only my opinion.
We stayed at this resort arrived on Nov10 very late, as we were delayed. Great way to start a trip, right? After 10 hours of rotting in the airport we finally get up in the air. When we arrived my first impression was this is party city. All I seen was couples and bumping music. We very grumpy tired and hungry. It was very late roughly 9 pm when we got there. SO we checked in.. Got our room keys.. Wasn't very cool because no one showed us to our room, I had to find it myself.. Which sucked, I was tired it was hot. Finally finding our room. Getting settled in.. It was lovely to had liquor in the room.. but to my surprise there was nothing in our mini fridge... How does that make sense??? If you have new guests arriving their fridge should be stocked.. Anyway.. Being so tired we burned a fatty and went to bed. So the next day was really our first day... Thats when this hotel started to grow on me.. Yes the beds are a little hard, yes the tub is really small, no coffee maker in the room.. But I mean cmon.. are you there to stay in your room? No your there to get out relax, drink, smoke, eat whatever you wanna do. Now lets talk about the food.. Food was pretty good. Buffet always had something that everyone will like. You will not leave hungry.. This resort has 3 ala carte... Which in my opinion is kinda a mess... Steak house, Italian and Asian. We went to the steak house. Im telling you right now, don't waste your time standing in line. My steak was awful lol. And considering we went to an ala carte because me and my now fiancee were celebrating our newly engagement ( he pros posed the night before) It takes a lot to wreck my spirit.. But hey Im in a beautiful country with the love of my life, I can't let a steak get me down. So we went back to the room got our party and drink on. It was a good night.Spa was great. Kind of expensive..Jerk chicken hut was wicked!! SOOO good! We would always get a plate and head over to the lunch building just next store.. and get some pasta or salad.Don't listen about what other people had to say about the food.. It was great. I am a semi picky eater.. But there is something for everyone... On our 3rd last day we went to bob marleys museum not the one in kingston, no the one thats 2000 miles up into the mountains.. The drive up there is an experience it self.. We had lovely taxi guy Adrian from the hotel take us. he stayed with us the whole time.. Bob marleys was great. Being this was my fiancees first time ever leaving Canada, we did the 10$ bob marley shot and got to keep the glass.. Whatever you do don't buy the brownies from that one guy... It was gross lol. I took one bite and had madd steams and leaves stuck in my teeth. I ended up throwing it out. We had dinner at margaritaville bomb . com lol. drove back to the hotel. Theres a shopping mall across from the resort. They will only drop you off at this one store.. If you can sneak away and run up stairs, theres a store up there called roseys store owners name is jimmy.. He's a great cool dude, and if your into smoking, he has the best looking stuff that we ever seen whilst being down there.. Which sucked because we visited this shopping mall the day before we left. Trip advisor is kinda of a good thing and a bad thing. because you need to realize everyone will have something bad to say about everything. I give this resort 4 out of 5 stars. It could of been better... But at the same time I am gearing up to return next year... Drinks were good, food was good. I got my moneys worth and thats all that matters. Book the catamaran with Keeno, I didnt get too.. But everyday he would see me give me a hug ask me how I am, of course they are going to bug you about going on the boat, because thats how they make their living. We considered it.. but even when we said no, he was still sweet as pie! Sorry Keeno maybe next time buddy.
