Riu Palace Jamaica
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
With its great location, less than 10 minutes from the airport, you can start your vacation right away. Along with its modern decor, Riu Palace Jamaica has a friendly and attentive staff and delicious dining options as is expected with the Riu chain. There is a selection of activities and entertainment offered at the resort but for the most part, this adults only resort is considered a more of a quiet retreat. And with a private, white-sand beach there are no beach vendors or timeshare sales people. If you are looking for more action, take advantage of the full exchange privileges at the Riu Montego Bay right next door.
Absolutely gob smacked by any bad reviews...especially about the food. This is one of the best resorts I have stayed in...you can't possibly ask for anything more and the staff can't do enough for you. The resort is super clean - the staff work incredibly hard all day and always greet you when passing. CHECK IN:This took all of 1-2 minutes. We were given two room cards (they are blank for security reasons) and a schedule of all the shows and entertainment at each of the hotels in the evenings and for the palace in the day.ROOMS: Extremely clean and spacious. On our last night we had a heart shaped towel on the bed. There are 1ltr bottle optics (included in all inclusive) in the room with vodka, gin, rum and whiskey, as well as beers, Coke, sprite and water. Our room was 3007 which faced out onto the Riu Montego Bay entrance area. Room service 24-7 for things like nachos, toasties, sandwiches. We ordered one night and it came within about 20 mins. Had an issue with the air con one night (the balcony door wasn't closed properly and there is a sensor meaning the air con will go off if the door is open) but after calling the lobby the maintenance guy was up within 5 mins. Each evening they knock to offer you extra towels. The only complaint I would really have is that the bath robes are a bit tatty (mine had a hole under the arm and the loop round the waste broken) but it isn't a big issue. POOL: There are three pools - two with pool bars. One is over by the aqua bar. It's very quiet so not many people realise it's there (on the reggae side). Pools are very clean. Towel cards are given on check in for beach towels. They can also be used at the riu Montego Bay and riu reggae. The riu Montego Bay has much bigger pools and a bigger and lively pool bar. There are plenty of sun beds and no need to wake up at the crack of dawn to put towels down. BEACH: Whilst a lot of people complain the beach is man made you wouldn't know. Water is lovely and calm and you can take a stroll to the riu reggae or riu Montego Bay along the beach. Guests staying at the riu Montego Bay and riu reggae are only allowed to pass through the palace to access each hotel and security are very on the ball quickly moving them along if they stop for a dip in the sea. The pool bar staff often bring round cups of water and offer drinks from the bar to your sun bed. FOOD AND DRINK:We didn't try any of the speciality (there is an Italian, Japanese and crystal (which I think is local food). I didn't personally like the look of any of the menus so didn't try them but that's just me being fussy. We tried the Japanese at the reggae (it's a bigger menu but still buffet) and the food was lovely. Buffet was amazing! Quite how anyone can't find something to eat is beyond me. Breakfast has fruit, cereal, yoghurt, pastries, donuts, any kind of egg imaginable including an omelette station, cooked breakfast, cold meats, cheese, bread, smoothies, mimosas! Definitely recommend talking a wander to the Jerk hut on the beach at the riu Montego Bay (there is one at the reggae too)...it's amazing! Top shelf spirits such as Johnnie walker red label and sky vodka are included at the palace. The other hotels don't have these. ACTIVITIES: There are various things around the resort to do, pool table, darts, ping pong table, horse shoe throwing. There are free non motorised water sports available at the riu reggae. We did two excursions with Jamaica tours (a rep sits in the lobby bar every day where you can book). We did a bus trip to negril seven mile beach where you stay for a few hours, then go to time square shopping for an hour (all souvenir type shops but much cheaper than the hotel prices) then to ricks cafe for sun downers. The trip was $40 pp.We also did the dunns catamaran trip with chukka. This was $118pp. You take a 90min bus ride to the catamaran in ocho rios where you get taken to snorkel then to climb the falls. You then drink rum punch and party back to margaritavile in ocho rios where you have lunch before getting back on the bus. Drinks and lunch are included. There is a catamaran trip that goes out from the hotel beach but you don't go anywhere it's a four hour party boat with some snorkelling for $59pp. These people do walk round trying to sell on the beach but we were by no means hassled. Even after a simple no thank you they are still keen to hear about your day and vacation so far. TIPS:Based on the service and personal touch you receive it is a good idea to take extra tipping money but there is no pressure or expectancy for this from the staff. CHECK OUT:Check out is at 12 midday. They allow you to keep your towel cards if you have a later pick up and want to be at the pool/beach. There is a locked room to store cases and a changing room with showers, a hairdryer and clean towels. WIFI: we didn't have any issues with wifi throughout the resort and even streamed Netflix with no interruptions. As a general point this hotel is practically bug free. I don't know if that's particular to the hotel or the island but either way is a definite bonus for me! Overall amazing place to stay and we will be back!
Very clean and attentive service. It's the only hotel that permits access to all 3 Riu . Would visit again . The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because I expected it to be a bigger property.
Let me start off by saying that I have read many reviews some great and some not so good. For the people that wrote bad reviews - I am not sure where you were staying but it was not the Riu Palace. From the moment we checked in we felt special. Check in took a matter of minutes, and then we were whisked away to our beautiful room. It was not the room that we had requested but the front desk took care of that pronto. The rooms are spacious and very clean, open concept but I think that is only for the King size rooms. Rooms with double beds come with a drape to provide privacy in the bathroom. The best part about staying at the Palace you get access to both the Reggae and Montego Bay. We did spend time on the Reggae side for a couple of days - the energy was real high and the music was great. It seemed that there is a younger crowd on the Reggae side. The entertainment was really great - each hotel had a different theme. Had an amazing time. The food was awesome. We never made it to any of the a la carte restaurants, had the buffet every night. No complaints whatsoever The food was perfect. There was so much variety to choose from and the severs were amazing. Junior Harris was our waiter every night for the 6 days that were were there and on our last night he decorated a table with flowers, it was so beautiful. The hotel is so clean and throughout the day you see staff cleaning and polishing. Overall this hotel surpassed our expectations - my only suggestion is maybe with the turn down service you can have a 1 pager outlining what activities are being offered in the hotels for the next day so you don't have to spend time guessing. On our last night there we did not realize that there was an all white party in Aqua Bar as we were in Negril all day.Every person that we met at the hotel was great. We met some great people from Boston, Chicago, the U.K and of course Canada.Already booking for next year Christmas - this time we are bringing the kids.
As two females travelling, we felt so safe here. We even left our room safe open a couple of times by accident and nothing went missing at all. There is a shopping mall minutes from the hotel if you need anything but the hotel will arrange a complimentary taxi for you if you prefer. The rooms here are really spacious and kept spotlessly clean. You can eat and drink here 24/7, it really is an adult paradise. The beach is secluded and pleasant, surrounded by palm trees. The bar staff even bring you drinks on the beach with a smile and a dance (thanks Frederico and Demar!)The service here is second to none. You really are treated like a VIP (thanks Audley). For us, the entertainment staff really made our stay. JoJo, Lisa, Dr Fun Fun, Kyash...so many wonderfully talented and lovely people work here and I hope the Riu know how good they are at their jobs and how wonderful they are.I've never said this before, but I would come back here in a heartbeat. Jamaica, Montego Bay and this hotel are a must. You won't be disappointed. We travelled with Thomson holidays and our rep, Claydon was amazing. He gave us honest tips on which excursions to take and we had a great time, thanks Claydon.Just a couple of things: When you're dancing the night away in the Aqua Bar, you get very hot...maybe the hotel could have a better cooling system in there. Also, the salt shakers don't work so well in the dining areas probably because of the heat, so maybe they could use salt grinders instead. But that's just me being 'extremely' picky!Thank you Riu Palace Montego Bay. We miss you all already...
We decided to visit this resort from our travel agent. The food is amazing. The rooms are to die for. It's not much nightlife and hardly nothing around resort. We had a great time on shopping trip. Planning next trip. I didn't care to much for our first room as it has a bridge type roof that someone from the other hotel could easily climb over wall and walk to our room after the second request we were moved because I did not feel comfortable. The staff overall is friendly. We did have some issues in the room but they sent someone up to correct them in a timely manner. My first time staff at a Riu and will book my next hotel stay when we visit again with the one in Ocho Rios in February.
