Riu Palace Jamaica
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
With its great location, less than 10 minutes from the airport, you can start your vacation right away. Along with its modern decor, Riu Palace Jamaica has a friendly and attentive staff and delicious dining options as is expected with the Riu chain. There is a selection of activities and entertainment offered at the resort but for the most part, this adults only resort is considered a more of a quiet retreat. And with a private, white-sand beach there are no beach vendors or timeshare sales people. If you are looking for more action, take advantage of the full exchange privileges at the Riu Montego Bay right next door.
Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect location for our wedding ceremony and honeymoon! Beautiful views, clean, and amazing service and hospitality! We are more than grateful that our happily ever after started at the Hotel Riu Palace Montego Bay!
The Riu Palace is truly 5 star - from the amazing choices of food, drinks and cocktails, complimentary mini bar and spirits in your bedroom, to the warm welcome and excellent service provided by all the staff. The food is great and it's well worth trying some of the specialist restaurants, which are on a first come, first served basis and over 2 weeks, we tried them all except the Sushi (which we don't really like - not a reflection of the restaurant) Be sure to try the jerk chicken but don't go mad with the hot sauce! The beach is good if not a little crowded on hot days, and the sea is fantastic to swim in and you get quite a decent size area. There are free watersports which are well worth utilising but make sure you complete the indemnity so you can book themThe other two hotels either side of the Riu are probably better for evening entertainment after 11pm, which is when the Riu evening entertainment ends.If you are expecting a quiet holiday then beware - during our holiday, there were two large groups of Americans (one hen party and a large wedding party) who were particularly noisy and at times a bit of a pain - some of the Americans seem to think that All Inclusive means drink as much as you possibly can all day!Nevertheless, our holiday was magical, and we managed to get out and visit some of the many sights and attractions, which I would thoroughly recommendEnglish visitors take note - whilst there is a coffee machine in the room, there is no kettle or tea bags!
This review is almost a year late.Every year we look forward to our Jamaican winter vacation but never as much as this year. We have stayed at the Riu Montego bay 3 times and last year we were reserved for Riu reggae but we were extremely blessed to be upgraded to the Riu Palace. Don’t get me wrong, Riu Reggae looked amazing but once we were at the palace we realized we belonged there. It’s classy low key couple orientated resort. I could go on and on about the many reasons we gave the Palace 5 stars but you will find your own reasons to give it the 5 it deserves! See you in January Riu Palace! XO
The trip included 3 females aged: 23,26 & 27 - I would like to start by saying I have been on multiple Caribbean vacations to many different locations (Mexico, Bahamas & DR), this stay was by-far one of the best vacations I have ever taken. When we arrived to the hotel the check in was easy and quick, we arrived early but was given access to the resort when we arrived. The food was plentiful and we had so many options. The food was also very fresh and the flavors/quality was AMAZING. There are also specialty restaurants that we went to at night and the food was also amazing! The menus are posted outside so you are able to see before entering and the buffet did have themed nights which was also great. There is also a late night bar for when you want to get the late night snacks! Secondly, the facilities were amazing. The pools and beach were so great! The beach wasn't as clear as I had hoped for but they do say the better beaches are farther away. There were also multiple hammocks and bed like furniture that you could lay out on w/o any extra fees. The chairs at the beach and pool were also plentiful we never had an issue with that. All the staff was amazing!!!! The bartenders, waiters, housekeeping and entertainment team was phenomenal. Everybody excelled at their job with smiles on their face and were very friendly to all guests. The room was also fabulous the room is exactly like the pictures, we had 3 adults and we had 3 full sized beds which was wonderful so we each could have our own space. I would like to also state that I am not a smoker and this resort has designated smoking areas which was great so you aren't surrounded with smoke wherever you go. Lastly, the entertainment staff was amazing and wonderful to the guests (DJ Spaghetti, JoJo, Kyash & Dr.Fun Fun) they helped keep the resort lively with activities but also a balance with a chill/relaxing vibe. It did rain a few days during our visit and the staff helped keep us busy/occupied and had fun games and events to help entertain when it was storming. We did venture over to the other resorts and had a blast at the foam party. The vibe at this resort is for a mature crowd and a more relaxing/chill vibe. The other resorts seem party focused on the young ages. We loved the Palace so we didn't really venture over more than a few times. The dance party is at the Montego Bay resort in walking distance that is open till 2am which was a ton of fun!Overall, this is one of my most favorite vacations and I will for sure be back again.
We stayed at the Riu palace 29th October to 8th November.Lets start with the rooms..as a Riu loyalty member I had checked in online and placed a request for a quiet sunny room, which was honoured. The check in was very easy and we were greeted with champagne (cava) and a very quick luggage to room service.I was disappointed t have stamped on my check in paperwork that if we damaged our all-inclusive plastic armbands we would have $100 fine (never had that before in a 5 star Riu hotel, I guess it was due to band swapping with the other 2 hotels that were accessible on site, but still I felt it unnecessary. There were a few teething problems with the room, the sink was blocked and the hairdryer didn't work, but again they were both fixed quickly (however these things should be checked or inspected before guests arrival) as they do make a first impression. Our room was not that clean on first glance, however all that said, after the turn down service it was spotless. It was mean every day after that so certainly can't complain. I did find that there is a lack of privacy in the room, but having read that already I was expecting it. The only privacy is in the toilet (which was a vented small room for a toilet and just that). Fortunately we were travelling as a long term couple, so it wasn't too much of a problem, but a curtain or screen between the bathroom/sleeping area would have greatly improved this. The balcony was nice and simple (note...you cannot smoke on the balcony...its a $300 dollar fine if you do!)The pool and bar areas were excellent. The pools in the palace were very clean and beautifully relaxing. Plenty of sun beds and never a struggle to find one, in fact the cabanas and hammocks etc were always free. This made a real difference to the relaxation, as most holidays there is always a struggle for the cabanas and you have to get up at 6am everyday to get one...this was a great relief of no having to reserve sun beds, it was a joy to have a lot at our use. The pool in the mo bay resort was consistently filthy with insets and sun cream scum, men thought it was cleaned daily. The bars were good. A special credit to the cleaner at Aqua bar, she would have the relentless job of sweeping the sand away all day. The whole resort was very clean, and this was a pleasure especially considering what a task this must have been, when the resort is right on the beach! The beach is man made, but we enjoyed it none the less. The water was warm and seaweed free (unlike in the sister hotel next door Montego Bay - that was full of seaweed and dirt and stones) and the sand was quite soft. The bars were excellent, the drinks were very very good (you haven't lived unless you have a Bob Marley cocktail or a amazing martini from the lobby bar). The house wine was good too, which makes a large change from most all inclusive, I found it really nice ad plenty of it...We didn't drink the optics in the room or make much use of the mini bar other than soft drinks and water, it would be nice to have exchanged for some wine, seeing as beer is always provide for the men! The coffee in the room was like brown water, its a filter coffee in a bag. I think it would have been better to have a kettle (especially seeing as it took us 3 days to get a working one without a hole in the actually filter part of the machine). Wifi was great throughout the stay in the palace. We were holidaying with friends who had a child and were therefore staying in the Riu montego bay next door, so there was a problem with the WIFI that was never solved for us...no matter how hard we tried. Due to the fact our friends (a party of 5 with 2 seperate rooms) were staying in Montego Bay hotel we wanted to contact them via the wifi to find out where they were in the complex and what they were doing so we could meet with them and book trips together etc, but our WIFI would not work next door. There was one occasion where my partner had gone over to that hotel, and I was wandering around for almost 2 hours trying to find them all, as it is a large resort. When I approached reaction in the palace about this the only solution they had was to send security after my partner/friends to search for him/them...not a scenario I could use all of my 10 day stay, and also would be very embarrassing for the rest of the party. When I asked reception for the wifi code for next door they informed me it was not possible and gave me a very short no...which I found very bizarre as we had unlimited wifi in our hotel all over it. I explained the reason why I needed it and again was told it was impossible ( simply not true as it would be a case of giving me the code and the password...that is not impossible!). I enquired at the Montego Bay about it and they were slightly more helpful saying I could purchase another code on my friends room..so therefore it was possible. I told my reception this and that I had already paid for the use of wifi so I want going to pay again. The girls on reception (apart from the trainee) had very poor service skills and attitudes and didn't seem to really care about solving any of the problems I had during the stay here. I would describe them as reception mannequins as they don't do anything other than shrug their shoulders and pout their lips. Another example of this was when I enquired about a late checkout, I was told no again and that I had to ask in the morning, I asked in the morning and after 20 mins of paper shuffling and little interaction, I was told her supervisor said no as the room was required, such a shame as a Riu class member I have always been able to get a late checkout if required. perhaps some upskilling needs to take place on how to treat loyal clients. The food was of a good quality, the steakhouse was the best speciality restaurant, its worth noting to get in there you do need to be there about 15 mins before the first sitting.steak was excellent. breakfast was very good but very repetitive after the first few days but still good. the breakfast and lunch staff were amazing, Audley knew we wanted our coffee from the barista and how we took it after the second visit, we are coffee snobs so it made a real difference being recognised in this manner, and not even having to ask for it after the second day but having it delivered. Jerk chicken was excellent from the buffet, but even better on Montego Bay beach from the chicken shack, it was the lunchtime highlight.I thought the entertainment team at the Montego Bay resort were absolutely top notch, they were relentless...they have so much energy. A big shout out to Needle who be friended me and looked after me on my first evening when I was left unaccompanied for a short while whilst the men in the group were smoking and the other ladies one to to bed..thanks Needle!!the best show was a version of the lion king with fire eating and dancing. I thought it was a professional cabaret they had bought in, I was overwhelmed when I realised that it was the team that work on resort...what a outstanding job they did. Giovanni was a excellent dancer. I watched this show with my jaw open the whole time, what a performance, stunning costumes and dancing, certainly not your usual cheesy entertainment, this team were fine tuned professionals, I thought if they went on any talent show they would have definitely won!The last thing worth noting is the smoking policy at the hotels...we are smokers so it bothered us, if you are non smokers then you will be pleased with this. Understand the compliance with the legislation. In any of the three hotels in public areas you were only allowed to smoke in designated areas and not at all on our balcony even those are considered private areas. The palace had the worst smoking areas of all...some leaning plastic chairs on a very small corner of the beach where you got bitten to hell at night, or at the hotel entrance there were 6 chairs and some umbrellas that certainly never kept off the rain. so if it did rain then there was no where to smoke that was covered, apparently a week before we went the area was more by the front entrance with sofa and a covered area, but due to someone smoking cannabis they had some complaints and had to move the area. the smoking areas at the reggae was by the the bar and on the beach with loungers, in the mo bay hotel it was a whole patio by the bar, a area by the beach, and several dotted around with tables and chairs and umbrellas. It seemed we had the best hotel but the worst smoking areas. All in all a 4 out of 5 holiday experience. It would have been 5 if the room was cleaner on arrival, and without the maintenance issues I pointed out. If the reception staff aimed to please rather than shrug and pout, and if I was treated like the loyal client that I am to Riu. Also if the smoking areas were more designed for comfort rather than treating us like lower class scum because we smoked. if you want to know about the weather..it was very very hot, we had a bit of rain and thunderstorms but all passed quickly and the rain was hot like liquid sunshine so it didn't bother us that much for a hour or so. Its the tropics and we know what to expect this time of year.
