Riu Palace Jamaica
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
With its great location, less than 10 minutes from the airport, you can start your vacation right away. Along with its modern decor, Riu Palace Jamaica has a friendly and attentive staff and delicious dining options as is expected with the Riu chain. There is a selection of activities and entertainment offered at the resort but for the most part, this adults only resort is considered a more of a quiet retreat. And with a private, white-sand beach there are no beach vendors or timeshare sales people. If you are looking for more action, take advantage of the full exchange privileges at the Riu Montego Bay right next door.
Stayed for the first 2 weeks in June . The Hotel is about 10 mins from airport and is on a complex of 3 hotels Riu Reggie, Riu Palace and Riu Montego bay .We stayed at the Palace which suited our needs Adults only and a smaller and less lively hotel than the other 2 . The Reggie is adults only but perhaps a bit livelier than ours Montego bay is a family hotel. We could use the facilities at the other hotels But I understand they could not use ours . Rooms were very good good stock of beer and mixers in fridge plus we had bottles of Vodka whiskey rum and gin on the wall with optics just like a pub must say that was a first . Air con was very good as was the walk in shower . Rooms was tended to twice a day first was the full clean . Second was a turn down service and to make sure we had fresh towels4 specialised restaurants and the Main Buffet restaurant. We tried all 4 restaurants all very good but we preferred the buffet such a choice and all freshly cooked We used the lobby bar near reception and sat on the Terrance before lunch and dinner and really enjoyed our gin and tonics .The barman in the evenings is quite a character and is good entertainment. All the staff go out of the way to make sure you are having a good time and always want you to have more than just a good time. The management are always making themselves availableTwo other things which we like was there is a no smoking rule except in very specific areas so you did not suffer from smokers next to you on the sunbeds. The other thing which lots of hotels have but do not enforce is the evening dress code , but they did at the palace which is basically trousers for men in the restaurants and no sleeveless shirts .Overall the hotel meet and exceeded our expectations
First off, the resort is perfect, the staff was Amazing. Paul the bartender is the man(Old Fashions) drinks on💯💯💯,the server Jamal was perfew at Breakfast. The food is good too. Mr. Fun Fun is a great Host he was very pleasant and helpful. My family and I had a great time.
We stayed at this resort from June 11 through June 18 with a group of 13 people. Conveniently located within 10 minutes of the airport and walking distance to souvenir shops if you so choose. Extremely clean resort, three wonderful pools (two of which have swim up bars), and direct access to the beach. Staying at the RIU Palace you also have access to the RIU Reggae and Hotel RIU hotel which are located on either side of the RIU Palace. Workers are always cleaning, waitstaff and bartenders are very friendly, front desk staff are attentive and responsive, You can tell management truly cares about their guests stay. There is entertainment each night at the Aqua Bar, in my opinion the entertainment is geared toward the 20 something 30 something crowd, based upon music choices (I am not a big fan of Hip-Hop which seemed to be what most entertainment shows ended with). With having access to the hotel RIU, you also have access to the disco there which opens at 11 PM. If you want a quiet room get one away from the Aqua Bar. The breakfast buffet in one word, excellent. Made to order omelettes, fresh fruits, eggs made your way, and all the other things you find on the breakfast bar. The breakfast buffet is open from 7 AM to 10:30 AM. The lunch buffet which starts at noon and goes until 3 PM also has a large selection. The dinner buffet runs from 6 PM to 10 PM, also wide variety of food and theme nights for food on the buffet. A very good selection of fresh salad makings, main courses and deserts. The specialty restaurants do require men wear a sleeve shirts and long pants, with the exception of the steak restaurant, in which you just have to have a sleeved shirt. We ate at the Italian restaurant which was good, the steak restaurant very good, and the Krystal restaurant which also very tasty food. Excellent service whatever your choice. One thing I was not impressed with was the 24 hour food at the Aqua Bar, I hate to say this but here there was poor service (chef and server). Room service had very limited choices and we did not take advantage of this option. Dr. Phil is a waiter in the Buffet for Breakfast/Lunch... RIU management, he is great! Keep him in line for a promotion or raise. The Entertainement staff was extremely amazing, Dr. fun fun has unlimited energy! From morning until well into the night he is there to make sure you're having a good time. They are not part of the RIU staff, but if you book excursions in the lobby bar with the representatives there from the various travel companies, be careful. We booked an excursion with our friends through the Delta vacations representative and the transportation never showed up. She said we would be refunded. The quiet swim up bar, Lime, has the smoking section on the beach in front of it. Cigars, cigarettes, "the local herb"....Security at the hotel is very good, they make sure to check wristbands on guests, so guests from the other two RIU Resorts do not enter to the RIU Palace. The beach for the RIU Palace is small in comparison to the other two resorts. However, it is a very short walk on the beach to the other two resorts, and you have full access to their beaches. Paddleboats, kayaks, snorkeling excursions, a party boat ride and many others can be accessed on the beach by the RIU Reggae. Just a note that if you decide to walk to the shops located just off your resort be prepared to be approached by many locals looking to sell you marijuana, cocaine, and taxi rides! With that, it was safe to walk to the shops and back. The fitness room has an elliptical trainer, three treadmills, and a stationary bike to go along with free weights up to 50 pounds and a universal machine. It's a bit cramped in the room. This resorts biggest asset is it staff. Sure every once in a while there was lackluster service from one or two people but 98% of the staff is there to make sure you're having a good time, that you're well taken care of, that your needs are being met, that you have a clean resort and with their service that you want to come back again. The location is excellent and close relation to the airport and the plane is taking off and landing really no big deal.I cannot give this location five stars due to our experience in the Aqua Bar (bartenders were not the issue) experiences and nighttime entertainment. For some the entertainment may be right up their alley but it was not my scene.
I felt overall the experience left something to be desired in comparison to other all inclusive resorts I've been to. Starting with positive things the room was cleaned daily and the room cleaning was well done and took great care with our belongings when cleaning the room. It had all the accommodations that were listed in the description of the resort. I however was not pleased with the dining. You won't have trouble sleeping because the music stops around 9pm and the clubs are kept far from the rooms. There is no such things as a late dinner here which was disappointing because if you returned late from an excursion or wanted to get dressed up and did not make it downstairs in time you were left with the buffet and snack bar as your only option. In a 4 day stay I ate at only 1 of the restaurants and the food there was not great I only enjoyed the appetizers. Everything starts late and closes early on the resort. If you like to start the day early with activities you won't be able to do so on the resort. You will barely see people from the resort out and about until 9:30 10:00 am. The rooms require a room key for the power to be on in the room so no charging devices when your not in your room. The shower didn't work in our room on the first day. There was no comforter on the bed just sheets and the purple blanket from our closet, though I'm sure had been cleaned was stained, as well as the pillow case. I just didn't enjoy the stay overall and do not recommend I'm sure there are simply better resorts.
My wife and I have just spent ten delightful days at the Riu Palace! This is one of the newer RIU establishments having opened four years ago. When facing the sea, the Riu Montego Bay is to the right while the Riu Reggae is to the left. As a Palace Guest you have full use of the other two establishments (except for their a la carte restaurants), guests of the Reggae and Montego Bay are restricted to crossing the Palace's beach to reach the other hotel. This keeps the Palace quiet (couples only) and you never have a problem getting a sunbed, snack or drink. The Reggae and Montego Bay both have varied entertainment programs throughout the week while the Palace has more low key entertainment, Magic Show, Live Music, Water Ballet, etc. so guests at the Palace have a large variety of entertainment available. As long as you don't mind the purple and chrome themed decoration, the Palace is a peaceful and welcoming hotel in a country whose natives seem invariable happy. The staff are efficient, courteous and above all happy! I should mention a few who made our stay memorable; Brian (Reception), Crystal (main dining room), Tamesha (Breakfast and Lunch), Ian and Maureen (Aqua Bar) and DD (Vogue Bar). Cleaners appears to be working 24/7 so the place was always spotless. Unusually (in our experience) for a RIU, reservations are not needed for the A la carte restaurants. The Palace has a Steak House, Main Dining Room, plus Asian, Italian and Fusion A la carte's.The accommodation is spacious and well appointed with efficient and quiet air conditioning, WC, wet room style shower, twin vanity washroom and whirlpool bath plus the usual enormous bed, bedside cabinets, couch, coffee table, table and chairs, dresser with four spacious drawers, large double wardrobe (with free safe), large wallmounted TV. As well as the usual hair dryer, robes, iron and ironing board. We also had a large balcony with chairs and table, a well stocked fridge and mini bar completed the facilities. A nice touch from housekeeping was the little motto left by the turn-down service staff giving a local saying, translation and meaning. The all inclusive aspect of the holiday is available 24/7, this includes room service which is also free. The food on offer in both the main dining room and the a la carte's is varied and delicious. While the main dining room usually concentrates on international dishes, they do have themed evenings (Jamaican and Mexican were two we experienced). While most of the dishes were familiar, the curried goat, jerked chicken and large variety of ice cream flavours were novel. It rained a couple of times during our stay, the first time started mid-afternoon, afterwards we spotted a number of the tiniest hermit crabs I've ever seen were making their way around the hotel paths. The shell's these crabs occupied were only a centimetre or less long. One made it as far as Reception before being returned to the beach. We also spotted a humming bird, a few pelicans and a single lizard during our holiday. This was the sixth Riu we have stayed at and we found this chain have never disappointed (Hilton take note). We'd recommend the Palace and Jamaica to anyone who wants a laid back holiday in a spectacular country where you are made welcome by everyone.
