Our OpinionWhite beaches with private boardwalks and crystal blue water line this beautiful oceanfront property. Guests at the Royal Decameron Montego Bay can enjoy time in the resort's two swimming pools, both with views of the sea and one with a swim-up bar. At night, try various international and local dishes in Passa Passa and Souk Restaurants before taking in the nightly show and dancing at our private disco. Great value at this Montego Bay resort.

Location: Directly on the beach in the heart of Montego Bay, within walking distance of the famous 'Hip Strip', only 5 minutes from the airport.
The first two days of our girls getaway was not bad at this resort, but not wonderful either. Front desk staff was nice, but not overly welcoming. They also weren't very knowledgeable about the area surrounding the resort. Our room on first sight was clean until you look closer at the bathroom. See pictures. Each room gets one, 1 liter bottle of water in the room when checking in. The front desk told us that when it was empty we were to return it for another. When I took it back to the front desk, I was told that we don't get another bottle, to take it to the bartender to refill. I did, and the water was cloudy! We ended up having to purchase bottled water in the gift shop. They would not give us another bottle.Day three it rained. We went to Dunn River falls in the morning, which was amazing! We returned at 3pm and wanted to eat. The buffet area was closed so we went to the grill beside the pool. Don't expect to get waited on there if it is raining. We sat at a table beside two security guards. Who told the staff we were there to eat. They returned to let us know that if we wanted to eat there, we had to go to the counter, order our food, then go back to the counter to pick our food up backside the staff wouldn't walk through the 6 inch open top area to wait on us! Keep in mind, we were fully waited on there two days earlier ( the burgers are phenomenal!) We weren't paying the price of an all inclusive resort to wait on ourselves so we got up to leave. We walked past the counter where the 4 staff members were smoking marijuana!!!!! We did report it to the from desk, who shrugged it off and chuckled a little bit. I guess it's ok for staff to get high on the job. We just went back to our room to dry off and wait for the buffet to open for dinner. It was raining in our bathroom! Called the front desk. They told us maintenance would be there to look at it. Water made the tile floor VERY slippery. Two hours later we went to the front desk to inquire about a room change. They told us to check back in 10 minutes. I wad caked to the front desk 5 minutes later to go to the room with a maintenance employee. He looked at the ceiling, told me it couldn't be fixed until morning. I asked him if they would switch our room. He told me no!!!! We were to keep towels in the floor. I proceeded to the front desk to complain. The girl at the desk ROLLED HER EYES AT ME! We kept the soaking wet towels on the floor and counted down the minuted until we could check out the next morning.Very disappointed for the price we paid!
The Good:Beautiful views of awesome blue water ,nice little gym to work out in decent food a lot of choices fish chicken your usual Jamaican resort fare good breakfast omelets bacon french toast, pancakes, fruit etc. Tried to make reservations for four at the only sit down restaurant and was told they only had a table for Two at 9pm so that didn't work out. Even thou resort wasn't even have full.Bartenders right on the money friendly helpful and most of the time attentive. Most of morning buffet staff was Good. The Bad:I will give you a few but I wont crush you with negatives everyone has a bad day or week. Most of the staff was not approachable actually avoided helping you If you had a question they had no answer and didn't care to get one. i knew we were in for a treat when we checked in and the guy doing our luggage asked my sons to help him carry the bags to the second floor or the time I went to the self serve beer pour and nothing came out told staff answer was keg needs to be changed and they were not doing it ha,or If you want more then one refill on your water or coffee you get the look of death or maybe being told how cheap people are for not tipping by the way I tipped in the beginning and took care of certain workers at the end.Ok enough with staff. Hotel dated yes very dated bathroom dirty grout, tub was starting to rust. I overlooked it but the smell of the bathroom was not good. Room sleeping area nice, clean also dated, You get hassled every where you go, on the beach no real security or no security that cares or just walking around the resort staff asking you to buy smoke and coke not very professional. 20 dollar a day wifi that barely works yes really 20 bucks are you kidding me. I guess its a good place for a bunch or 18 year olds I Will not be returning. This was my first bad experience in Jamaica been going for twenty years.
Royal Decameron is a true Diamond in the Ruff. This was my fourth visit to the resort and its still a gem yet there is always room for improvement. Here's the breakdown of the good and bad features of Royal Decameron:Overall Resort: The property is somewhat small with an intimate setting, nice for couples , adults, or a girls trip. The resort does not include free Wi-fi this is an additional feature that you must pay for. It would be nice for Royal Decameron to look into providing this for free since most resorts now do in general or in common areas of the resort. The resort is situated right on the water. So once you step onto the property you are steps away from the ocean which is truly amazing. The restaurants are are located within steps of the water and are open with a covering which really provides for a true island experience. I believe this is the best feature of the resort its location since its right on the water featuring a nearly perfect beach (little seaweed and rocks) and being that is on the same strip with stores and Margaritaville (within walking distance).Grounds/Maintenance: The grounds are pretty well kept since this is a small resort . Throughout the resort you can find nicely placed hammocks to lay out on in shaded areas. They have basketball, chess, and ping pong for outdoor games. Also there is a Glass Bottom boat which is at the resort and is a nice feature for snorkeling or just taking a boat ride with Mr Polly....(who is Awesome). Food: The food is more so Authentic Jamaican. This resort has a buffet area, one restaurant (al a carte) which you need to make reservations for, and a snack bar (limited options). The buffet features fresh fruit, bread, station for sandwiches, omelettes, cooked pastas, and then meat and veggie options, salad bar, soups and dessert. The food is pretty good most night if you are interested in Jamaican dishes. The restaurant offers a menu of 6 dinner options for American/Jamaican/Seafood dishes pre-pared in small portion sizes (would recommend the Seafood Trio), there is also a salad bar and 3 options for desserts. The ambiance of this restaurant is very nice with it being right on the water with dim lighting along with the exceptional service of the waiters Pat and Akeem. The snack bar is less appealing featuring hot dogs and hamburgers and fries which is only good if your hungry yet this is a hit or miss.NOTE: There is no 24hr room service or 24hr food options at this resort. Special thanks to waiters Chavaine and Charolotte and Keyquan and Marshall for the amazing drinks.Rooms: The rooms at this resort are dated but include a descent bed and bathroom and fairly large. If you are looking for luxury and modern you won't find since this is a typical on the beach property. It would be nice if the rooms where updated since I have been traveling here for approx. 7 years with 4 visits and the rooms are still the same the only thing that was change was the paint color. One liter of water is provided in the room daily yet there are no mini refrigerators within rooms. The room also includes a safe that has a daily fee. As for room service there needs to be more workers since on some days are rooms where not cleaned until 3pm. This was very uncomfortable after being out all day then coming back to an uncleaned room.Gym: There is a small gym with limited hours but the best feature is that it overlooks the beach. There are 3 treadmills, 1 bike, 1 elliptical, and a few weights. Pool: There are two pools at this resort with one featuring volleyball, and a pool bar. The pools are fairly descent yet small in sizeNightly Entertainment: The entertainment here has always been interesting to say the least but it will definitely keep you on the edge of your chairs and wanting more. The entertainment is suited best for adults here not so much kid friendly shows.Club Glitters: This club is situated on the resort right behind the a la carte restart aunt which usually draws a handful of people inside every night. The club itself is nice yet more promotion should be done to draw the guest to come and a new dj is needed. Most of the time when attending the music is dated and guests leave.Customer Service/Staff: Everyone here is professional but knows how to have a good time. The smiles, laughs, and conversations you have with the staff are very sincere and unforgettable. This is another big advantage when coming to this resort since its so small you build relationships with the workers and you almost feel comfortable enough to say your home. This resort is definitely a place to check out if your traveling to Jamaica and love the beach life, having fun, and relaxing, yet willing to overlook some features that you may find at a larger resort.Royal Decameron Beach compared to Royal Decameron Cornwall: Note I have not stayed at Cornwall but from the view its looks very nice on the inside with a larger pool and guests staying at Cornwall can freely come over to the Beach side yet this is not the same for those staying at the Beach who want to come to Cornwall. Cornwall seems to be very updated yet I noticed most of the individuals that were staying at the resort seemed to always be over at the Beach side so not sure if it was the better food options or entertainment but I overheard several people stating they enjoyed the beach side way better.
First off, you need to know that Royal Decameron Montego Beach and Royal Decameron Cornwall Beach are interconnected and share all amenities/services/access seamlessly. Once on the property, you will never know the difference between where one begins and the other ends. Book whichever is cheapest!Let's get the positives out of the way. The staff is very friendly and the entire property offers limitless views of beautiful blue ocean. Drinks are plentiful and you can typically find an open bar almost anywhere on the property. If that's all you need, stop reading this review and book it. Otherwise, buckle up.Uninformed/Unhelpful staff. Everyone is very friendly, just unknowledgeable or unwilling to be proactive. The property is sprawling with fun/different amenities throughout. There are no maps, and no one tells you what's available. You have to discover for yourself. What's worse is they just don't know. If you ask "where is...?" "Or do you offer...?" the response is usually a blank stare or a "no", regardless of whether or not the amenity/activity in question is just around the corner! And forget asking about anything outside the property. Unless it's a bar/club that the staff personally go to, they are unable to provide any help about locations outside the resort. This is NOT a function of them trying to keep you on the property to spend money with them. They just truly have no idea!Rooms. Large enough, decent amenities. Bathrooms are gross and need to be scrubbed!Food. If you want bare minimum mass-produced cafeteria-style lowest-common-denominator calories, then it's adequate. There is no variety, each meal is the exact same as the last, day after day. Minimal vegetarian options other than carbs.WiFi. NOT included. Absurdly overpriced. And it barely even works in the lobby! No WiFI connectivity within the rooms! Despite what they tell you, there is simply no connection away from the lobby. I understand we don't go to a resort to play on the Internet, but I do have an expectation of connectivity.Vendors. There are random vendors on the property! Hawking goods, harassing guests. Not a storefront that you can choose to walk into or avoid.Parking and Driving. We rented a car from Kingston (where I work). Despite google maps, we clearly took an inefficient route to Montego Bay. Even with maps, the staff had no clue had to direct us back to Kingston. Parking is a JOKE. "Secured" parking lot across the street consists of a flimsy gate that everyone can open on their own. Sketchy guys constantly hanging around INSIDE parking lot are NOT part of the "security" staff, rather locals harassing tourists for change.
Hotel has fantastic views & staff rooms were modern, clean, spacious and the dinning staff are very helpful and professional. There are things which are not included in your stay i.e. WIFI you have to pay for that daily so I checked out of the hotel and moved to another hotel a few meters down the road where I had free WIFI through out my stay with no extra charge. Also, I find the reception staff to be rude at times and not very helpful. They don't explain anything unless you asked, I was issued a card to collect beach towels I collect the towels and left them inside my room when I was checking out however, the receptionist was refusing to check us out because we didn't return the towels to the front desk. We had no idea we have to because we weren't told and then they had the ordesity to demand that we go back up to our room to collect the towels and bring it to them. I find that very annoying and unprofessional on there part.
