Royal Decameron Montego Beach

Our OpinionWhite beaches with private boardwalks and crystal blue water line this beautiful oceanfront property. Guests at the Royal Decameron Montego Bay can enjoy time in the resort's two swimming pools, both with views of the sea and one with a swim-up bar. At night, try various international and local dishes in Passa Passa and Souk Restaurants before taking in the nightly show and dancing at our private disco. Great value at this Montego Bay resort.
Royal Decameron Montego Beach provides a cool and comfortable setting for a relaxing Caribbean vacation in a great location on Montego Bay. Casual and friendly, the resort offers a superb standard of accommodation at amazing value. Head to the beach to experience a variety of exciting water sports or stroll along its beautiful boardwalk overlooking the ocean. Take advantage of nearby shops, markets and nightlife on Montego Bay's famous hip strip or stay put and enjoy the resort's own brand of evening entertainment, including live shows and themed dinners.
Location: Directly on the beach in the heart of Montego Bay, within walking distance of the famous 'Hip Strip', only 5 minutes from the airport.
Great resort with many positives and only a few negatives. Positives: clean, great food, small and easy to get around, amazing ocean views from the rooms, 2 mins from airport, located on the hip strip with margerittaville and shops, always tons of lounge chairs available at pool and beach- never need to reserve chairs or get up early, beautiful turquoise ocean water , free non- motorized water sports, excellent food, friendly staff, Sharlette served us every breakfast and lunch - she was super ! Marshall the bartender was very nice and worked hard Rooms were very spacious and beds were comfortable , amazing balcony views, Ask for extra towels and you will get them Buffet food exceeded expectations - salad bar was the best part - there's something for everyone Grill has good pizza and fries and chicken wings , burgers and hot dogs available too A la carte was nice for a change, small portions but nice presentation and good quality foodDirty banana was best drink ! Negatives: many male staff became too friendly and inappropriate (security guards, restaurant staff, and entertainment staff)... even when ignored they persisted - very disturbing and uncomfortableEntertainment was inconsistent- staff don't always follow the schedule , had to beg for water aerobics class some days, nighttime shows were hit or miss, steel drum band was great and beach party was nice idea , audience participation games had potential but lacked structure and were often too provocative.. Couldn't get a good glass of wine ! Our room was right over the entertainment stage and EXTREMELY loud. Luckily we did not go to sleep before entertainment ended but could pose a problem for people who want to go to sleep early or for children .. Disco was dead the two times we went but maybe it fills up later... Rooms need to be renovated with glass shower doors instead of curtainsOne very tiny elevator ! Use the stairs !!! Late checkout (which costs extra) is only until 3 pm - if you have a late night flight you do not have a room to shower and get ready in... you can use the spa bathrooms but not always convenient .. Wifi and safe should be included as they are in most hotels/ resorts these days. Do not take a 30$ taxi into shopping area - it is a 1 minute walk even though they will tell u otherwise Not a luxury 5 star resort but exceeded my expectations and will likely return if the price is right again!
This was the worse trip I have had. My dreams were crushed in one week. Food was very little that people had to rush to the buffet in order to get a bit of it. Bathrooms had no paper. We had to tip in order to get ours rooms clean and bathroom paper. Will never go back to this awful place
The best thing about this resort is the entertainment staff!!!DJ Tino, Troy, Shelly and Max were super entertaining! My son is three years old, we were worried that he might not come out of that shell of his but the entertainment staff connected with him easily! Troy was amazing with our son, he absolutely loved him and still asks about him! The people and vibe at this resort is what I would come back for! Food was ok... Jamaicas food is usually more impressive, would like to see them step it up before I come back!! Although I could usually find something satisfying and my son loved the food. The staff in the buffet were ok, a few stood out including Jay and I can't recall the others.. If I went back I'd likely go out of the resort for some authentic Jamaican food. Either way, the Jamaican cooks are a lot better than most tropical destinations in our opinion. We spoke to one of the ground staff who could bring us fresh local fruit and coconut most days... yum! Decameron dancers were lovely, the beach party was my greatest entertainment experience at a resort! Gym was great, heavenly view! Quincy is the man! Rooms were lovely, that sunset view is incredible!! No high-end alcohol here either so buy at duty free if you want anything special..If you are the type of person that wants five start service, big fancy resort and top notch treatment, don't go here. If you want a laid back, small, authentic style, water view with good music and a down-to-earth vibe..this is the place! I will always return to Jamaica, for the culture, the food and the dancing! One love!
Room location was good with a balcony overlooking pool area. Beds were comfortable here, had a safe available for use, and room key for each of us. Balcony was pleasant area to sit while having coffee. There are stairs down to lobby or one elevator for hotel. Bar in lobby with chairs was nice for meeting others or just enjoy a pre dinner drink.
Stayed at the Royal Decameron Montego Beach for the fourth time the first week of March. We were a little concerned that the new resort next door would impact negatively, but soon found that was not the case. The shared beach grill has been expanded and there was never a problem finding a spot to sit and enjoy jerk wings and fries for lunch while looking over Montego Bay. Being able to use the beach next door was also a plus. The watersports have been relocated to the Cornwall Beach end of the property, both resorts can use the equipment available and has been expanded to include stand-up paddleboards. The staff from the front desk, to the buffet, ala carte and beach grill were always helpful and friendly. They really made it easy to relax and have an amazing holiday. As in the past no trip to Montego Bay is complete without going out in the Miss Polly. The red and white glass bottomed boat is tied up just off the end of one of the piers. The captain is always friendly and very knowledgeable of the area whether giving a tour or taking you to a favourite snorkeling spot. There were a few negatives, the most major one being the actions or inactions of security staff on site. On a regular basis drug dealers come onto the property via the beach and set up on the resort property approaching/propositioning all guests who walk by. They monopolize areas of the beach and paying guests have to find other areas to enter the ocean. On two occasions we saw one of the dealers bring live marine life out of the protected marine area and kill it by smashing it on the beach. When one the guests tried to take a picture of them, the dealers were quick to tell them no pictures. All of this is done openly under the watchful eye of security staff. The same security staff though are quite vigilant in stopping any guests of the Montego Beach side from going anywhere but the beach on the Cornwall side of the resort. The other negative was smoking just outside the buffet dining area. We would appreciate this location be unavailable to smokers while others are still dining. This would only be considerate to all. The breeze off the bay blows the smoke into the dining area where non-smoking guests including children are subject to the second hand smoke.
