Our Opinion

With only 52 rooms, the Sandals Carlyle offers a relaxing ambiance in a small but very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. This resort is small in size but large in value, a great way to experience Sandals with out breaking the bank. Guest have exchange privileges at the 2 other Sandals resorts nearby, Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean.

Overview

Sandals Carlyle is a quaint and friendly resort where no one is ever a stranger for long. Located across the street from a small public beach, this resort combines warm Caribbean charm with easy access to Montego Bay's cafes and nightlife. Complimentary transportation is provided to Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean where guest have full exchange privileges. Sandals Carlyle is definitely a great spot for couples who enjoy intimate resorts.

Location: Located across the street from the beach in Montego Bay, 10-minute drive from the airport.

Anniversary vacation

This resort is definitely worth the money!! Quiet when you want it and easy transfers to Montego Bay and royal Caribbean!! The other 2 are larger and have more dining options and activities but don't have the personalized service. We immediately fell in love with our server Carmeal. She is one amazing little gal. She has an unending personality that just makes you love her!! She is great at what she does!!! Romana and Lamar are amazing bartenders and the gm Donovan was wonderful as well. Shawayne at royal is a great bartender too. Even though this isn't a review for royal I can't leave him out!! You just can't go wrong when you book any sandals resorts!! Can't say enough good things about them!! Don't forget to take in the included entertainment!! We were pleasantly surprised!!

Hurricane/Lightning emergency stay

We stayed at this hotel recently when lightning struck the radar tower. Our first hotel was Ochi, which is two hours from the airport, so we had to try to find something close fast. We stayed for 2 days. There's a certain charm to the hotel, but I'll never book it again unless I have to. We probably paid too much for it too considering that we had extremely limited options with no one being able to get out of the airport. I like having modern amenities. The room takes effort to get cool. You can get it there: close the blinds all the way during the day, turn the fan on high, and turn up the AC. However, the rooms need to be sealed better. We could see a big gap in the pretty french doors leading to the balcony. I could stick my finger in it. The bathroom also is open to the hall way. You can hear everything everyone says and I am sure vice versa. The bathroom is a sauna. There is no air conditioning if you close the door to it. The light is on the outside of the bathroom.Service was great. Food was good, although not a ton of options on site. I'd get bored if we had to stay there any longer. We went to Montego Bay and the Royal Carribean Sandals every chance we had. I was happy we got to check those out. There is no beach here realistically. I wouldn't feel safe going across the street as a smaller female. Jamaica is not the place to wander the streets guys. Please check out the crime rates if you don't believe me. The waters were higher than normal with Hurricane Irma passing by out in the ocean and the waves were crashing against the wall next to the beach across the street and water was coming into the street. Also: You get music from people outside the complex on the street at all hours. If you want quiet, this isn't it. I was woken up at 6:30 to the sounds of some awful DJ blasting his stuff and it was the same at 10:30 that night.I love balconies. This one was awesome. Nice and big. In sum: I'd go to one of the other Sandals. Even though getting on the Sandals bus isn't hard, they don't come around that often. You have to time the buses. It's not worth the effort.

Hotel rates with resort privileges

We came to check out Sandals Inn otherwise known as Sandals Carlisle on a shuttle from Sandals Royal Caribbean. The great thing about Sandals in Montego Bay is that there are 3 Montego Bay resorts. You can stay at 1 but enjoy the amenities of all 3. This one was not something I would choose but, if you are trying to enjoy a vacation and short on funds, this is a much cheaper way to get in. They have a nice pool and bar. They are across the street from the Caribbean sea but, the road is very trashy and crowded. You can take the shuttle to any of the other resorts and enjoy their restaurants, activities, bars, etc. You can literally just sleep here and spend your days at the nicer resorts. The one thing I did like about this place is that they offer room service to all rooms. They also offer a late night snack bar so you can have room service delivered late into the nights. The other resorts only offer room service if you have a butler or a club level room. Aside from that though, it is basically an older hotel that just has the Sandals name on it. We did not stay here very long as there was not much to see or do here. I can't say it is a bad resort though because you get what you pay for. You are paying for a basic hotel room in Montego Bay. The price might be slightly higher than a cheap motel but you also get the benefits of 2 other very nice resorts. Between the 2 resorts and Sandals Inn, you have so many restaurant options and activities to keep you busy. If you can't afford the other resorts just go to Jamaica, have a wonderful time, this Inn makes it possible for you!! I personally would choose SRC as the best of the 3 in Mobay but everyone has different opinions, and this one at least gets you there. Enjoy! See you in Jamaica!!

Torn on how to review this place..... Definitely not a 4 star.

My wife and I stayed at the Sandals Inn July 15-22 2017. We are Diamond club level and have been to ALL Sandals and Beaches properties save for the 3 in Mobay. I have always had my eye on trying the Sandals Inn (former Carlyle) and the bonus of staying at one place and play at 3 and save some $$$. The short review is this place is not a Sandals and should not have the brand in our opinion.I hate to be so blunt but it is as simple as that. It's only saving grace is that couples can stay and save $$$ and still experience the beautiful resorts of Mobay and Royal Caribbean. If you are a regular Sandals guest and used to the luxury rooms and quiet lifestyle you will be very sorry you chose this place especially when you visit the other 2 resorts. We stayed on the second floor corner room and the room had a new tv and bed but that was all that was new. The room and entire floor needs a complete overhaul renovation. When you climb to second floor (no elevator) there are old style air conditioners blowing hot air into the hall and dripping water on the carpet and its just sad. The 3rd floor does not have the old style Ac units and I believe have been renovated but we never saw one of those rooms. The noise from the locals on the beach was endless till the wee hours of the morning and drove us nuts (not Sandals fault but it is what it is). Loud music, peanut vendor whistles all night and cars and bikes racing up and down the street was brutal. The spa is simply a room on the 3rd floor (they have a hut outside which seems nice but it is NOT a Red Lane building). We had a massage and it was great I want to mention just stating it is not a spa. I want to be very very clear the management and staff are great, the bar was great, the food at the restaurant was great, the pool is very nice and has all new chair types with umbrellas but the building and its location is NO comparison to ANY Sandals at all. The second day we stayed a pipe burst and we had no cold water for several hours and could not flush the toilets when I called to complain they said it would take hours with no ETA. I had to pour coffee pot water into the toilet just to flush, It was a nightmare. We asked to be transferred to Mobay or Royal and Sandals said they could only offer us Ochi which we have been to and said thanks but no thanks (at least they offered to transfer but we really wanted to see Mobay properties so we bit the bullet and chose to stay). The shuttle service was great and if you missed it or wanted to stay longer you could spend 5-10 bux and cab no problem between properties (and we like to help locals so no problem Mon). We spent practically all our time at Mobay and Royal and had a blast (hauling diving gear each day on shuttle was a pain as they would not store gear at the dive shops :(). The beach across the street was local and had no chairs or umbrellas for guests but could be used.I really had a hard time writing this review because we are very simple taste people and rarely complain and love Sandals but I just want to state facts. So again if you want to be frugal with your cash and enjoy Mobay and Royal but pay much less this is the place for you and enjoy the adventure! Make no mistake we saved $$$.As I said the place itself does not rate 4 stars (I assume 4 stars only because you get to play at the other 2 and close to airport?). This review is no knock at the staff or management as I said they are beyond great it is just the building itself in our opinion does not deserve the Sandals brand. We plan to return to Mobay next year!

Short and Sweet Holiday

June 30, 2017Seven months after our last Sandals vacation, my wife and I were eager to book another trip, only shorter in length. Sandals Inn, Montego Bay was on our short list. This was the first time we booked this property and we had many questions about Sandals Carlyle before securing our desired dates. Since we were celebrating Independence Day in USA, we wanted to travel on a long holiday weekend since July 4th was on a Tuesday. All of the questions we had were answered thanks to the friendly professional sales associates who are available on line to chat when you book your Sandals All Inclusive Vacation.Day 1-June 30, 2017Our non stop Southwest Airline flight from Baltimore landed at 12pm on Friday. The flight was full and there was another airline landing at the same time. I thought there would be delays at Customs since we did not purchase “Club Mobay” arrival/departure bundle. The lines were long but moving and our wait was short. The transfer to Sandals Inn was 10 minutes and we arrived at 1pm. This was definitely a plus since there was no wait at Customs and the commute was short. We were greeted by Doreen (very attentive, explanatory & well informed) and Patrick at the desk (very cordial and helpful). Since we arrived early and our room was not ready and we were hungry, Patrick escorted us to Nibbles for lunch. Cassandra took our drink order (Red Stripe Light of course!) and was very polite & obliging and comforting to talk to. Sandra (cook) took our food order and the jerk chicken was well seasoned.Patrick escorted us to our room (212) which was directly across the hall from the fitness center. If you enjoy progressive weight training like my wife and I, request a room on the second floor which makes the gym convenient. Sandals gave my wife and I coupons for a complimentary 30 minute couples massage. What a nice start to our vacation. Our first dinner meal at Tokyo Jo’s needed no reservation and the dress was resort casual. This restaurant was located at Sandals Mo-Bay property which required a short bus transfer. Our dinner consisted of sushi as an entree and a stir fry as a main course. To order your stir fry, you walk over to the chefs cooking station and select all the vegetable ingredients, then instruct the chef what types of protein you want (selections included chicken, shrimp, beef). He takes your plate and places all the ingredients into a wok and cooks to your spice flavor. Exceptional meal! After dinner, since it was Friday night, it was “chocolate theme night”. My wife and I sat by in the lobby near the bar and watched as the pastry chefs brought out the fresh made chocolates and desserts. First rate job with the display and assortment of chocolates and desserts!!!Soon after we indulged all the sweets, we were treated to an awesome must see steel band......Silver Birds. They put on an unbelievable show. Amazing!Day 2 (Saturday)The resort at Sandals Inn is smaller compared to the other properties we stayed.....52 rooms. You can smell the aroma of the Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee brewing at sunrise. The property reminded us of a bed and breakfast. We found breakfast at Bay Windows where you can either order menu or buffet our daily preference. Cameal was our server and she gave us outstanding, polite service. Gratitude Cameal! We planned our day around Sandals Royal Carribbean on day #2. The private island provided us with beach, pool and a swim up bar. Time to relax. The newly constructed over the water suites and other Montego Bay Resorts are visible from the private island and the panorama is scenic. Occasionally you will hear aircraft from Sangster, but you get use to it. For lunch we ate at Mariner Seaside Bar and Grill which is outside dining with appealing seascape. For dinner our reservation was late seating at the French restaurant, Le Jardinier. Open air dining makes this restaurant attractive and picturesque. Day 3 (Sunday). This is the day we reserved our couples massage at Red Lane Spa. Joella and Hatala contacted us to confirm our 10am appointment. We scheduled the massage at 10am to give my wife and I time to weight train first at the fitness center and then get our complimentary deep tissue. We enjoyed the massage so much, we upgraded to 90 minutes. What an awesome mix, an hour of weight training followed by a ninety minute couples massage from two of Sandals finest massage therapist’s.I highly recommend Joella and Hatala to any of the guests traveling to Sandals Inn.Cold drinks, relaxation, lots of sunblock, rafts and pool kept us content the rest of the afternoon. Sandals Inn is peaceful and mellow with the melody of reggae music in the background. Cassandra made sure we had our drinks topped off. Thank-you Cassandra for attending to us. We hope you are well!My wife and I really bonded with the staff at Sandals Inn. I even got a chance to play a game of pool with Anthony Bird the property maintenance employee, while waiting for a Jamaican Jerk Burger at Nibbles. Mr Bird next time I will give you a better game; I enjoyed playing pool with you. We loved Sandals Inn so much thus far, we made dinner Reservations at Carlyle Restaurant. What is there not to like about Sandals Carlyle. Cameal was our server and she was amazing. White glove service and sociable conversation. Thank-you Cameal. You are a star! If you have dinner at Carlyle, try the pan seared red snapper, mouth watering!Day 4. (Monday)Last full day at Sandals Inn. After breakfast my wife and I had the pleasure of meeting the group fitness director of Sandals Resorts International, Ms. Melody Cargill. It was a very productive meeting. I had expressed interest in working with Melody and growing the fitness/personal training at all Sandals properties. We discussed Sandals vision, the company goals and values and the excellent fitness professional team members. It was assuring to know that she has some great fitness incentives and programs for the guests at all properties. Now I know why Sandals has so many great programs, fitness centers and equipment for the guests, because Melody prides herself and is passionate about health and fitness. We talked about Negril, St Lucia, Grenada, Southcoast, and the excellent fitness professionals who pride themselves in giving the guests, fitness, exercise and training while on holiday. Melody I will never be late for a training session appointment.........LOL. I promise! After lunch the staff put on a few fun games that all the quests participated in. It was fun and we got to meet all of the employees who are responsible for making the resort and our vacation memorable. The operation manager Donovan presented my wife and I with some really nice cotton Sandals Select Rewards return guest Tee-shirts and the culinary staff prepared some appetizers for happy hour. We had a chance to try some full-flavored margaritas served up by some of the Margaritaville Staff who helped with the happy hour. We wanted to make dinner reservations again for the Carlyle Restaurant but found out that Monday night was Island beach party with authentic Jamaican cuisine and steel band. The Carlyle Restaurant was closed for evening dinner so the staff could cater to the guests at the party. Since the beach is across the street from the property, the buffet was set up at Bay Windows with seating pool side. The resort is very scenic at night with the pool lights and tiki lamps. There were also vendors displaying paintings, jewelry and gifts. My wife and I bought a nice Jamaican painting, reasonably priced. After dinner we were entertained by a very talented steel drum musician. Day 5. (Tuesday)Since the airport is so close, we had an opportunity to spend more time at the resort before we departed. Is is definitely a plus when you do not have to leave early in the morning to catch a flight. In conclusion, I highly recommend Sandals Inn. We will definitely be back.Sincerely, Tom and Donna Lengyel
