Secrets St.James

My husband and I went for a week and stayed on the St. James side. We enjoyed our stay however our room could have been better. When we booked our trip we specifically requested to be in an ocean view room and to be away from the pool area. Our room ended up being right next to a pool and it got pretty noisy and the view wasn't good at all. You could see the ocean but couldn't hear it. That was disappointing. Other than that the room was nice. The food was by far the best we have had at an all inclusive resort. Most of the staff was great, but some could have been friendlier. The beaches were always over crowded and we had to get up super early and put towels on seats if we wanted to get a spot on the beach. Overall I think this resort is nice, but I don't know that I would come back to this property.

Secrets St James was just okay

Went here for a little sun and fun, and was overall disappointed. We arrived and were immediately informed about a informational meeting to see about joining the resort membership. Advised it was about 30 minutes and it ended up being about 3 hours, ending with them trying to sell a membership level of $69,000/$49,000/$29000 for different levels!! We did get a free meal at the beach, that took over two hours to get through. The room was nice, and the view was great. The first day our towels were taken but not replaced, mini bar was not refilled. The second night, no turn down service and still no mini bar refill. We advised them we were on a anniversary trip and received no special recognition, although our friends that were with us in another room, who also were there on anniversary, got a Happy Birthday sign and a bottle of rum...? Probably the most disturbing part was the customer service was not great. For what we paid to stay there, most of the people working there seemed like they were not interested in helping us, most didn't even give eye contact or act like they were glad to see us there!! Incredible. This should be point number one for customer contacts. Even the woman checking us out to leave acted like we were insignificant. I don't understand this. The restaurants were slow as could be, most meals took way too long, and even getting a replacement drink was a struggle. Even the bus taking us to the resort was old and the seats were all broken into a permanent recline. There you go, consider your stay here.

I stayed at this resort for 6 nights/7 days along with 7 others, for my 30th birthday!!! I once again booked my travel with Jayne from Beach Bum Vacation. She is so helpful and patient!!! Jayne sent me multiple resorts to choose from in Montego Bay. I settled on Secrets for its popularity, pricing, and amenities. We arrived via Amstar bus which was included in our travel with Jayne, this is very convenient. Upon arrival to the resort, we had to wait 2.5 hours extra for our rooms to be ready. Check in is at 3pm, but the majority didn't get our rooms until about 520pm. I was the birthday girl and my room was ready at about 545pm. 4 of us checked in on Saturday, and we booked ocean front rooms with king sized beds. Only 2 of us received king sized beds, the other 2 had to settle for double beds because there were no more king beds available. We changed rooms 3 times because we felt our rooms were "ocean view." We thought ocean front meant first floor, walk out onto the beach......or at least our entire view was ONLY the ocean. Not the case....3 of us had full views of the ocean, but we could also clearly see the pool (we didn't want to see the pool). Someone else had a palm tree in full obstruction of her view of the ocean (room 3427), but she settled because at least she was able to have a king sized bed. Deandra at the front desk was so patient and helpful, she continued to assist us until we found rooms that we were happy with.I really wish the food was better. Oceana served their calamari rings COLD. They would have been really good if they served them fresh, but they legit serve them cold....I don't even think they were sitting underneath a heating lamp! The Jamaican restaurant was pretty good...I ate there twice and had the guava bbq chicken both times. I think the Italian restaurant was my favorite...the chicken parmesan and the risotto croquettes were really yummy. The hibachi grill was entertaining and it was tasty. However, we ordered sweet and sour chicken a la carte...again...the food was cold. Sweet and sour chicken is breaded and fried...so it should be served crunchy. But since they let the sauce sit on it for so long before serving us, the chicken was soggy and cold. I ate 3 pieces and was over it.The club at the resort was fun! I was really hoping I liked the music (anywhere else out of the country, resorts always play EDM music...I hate EDM music)....and I DID!!! Everything was hip hop and I could sing along to everything. We booked the Chukka Excursion as well as the Cool Runnings excursion on the resort. Both of these excursions were very fun.I appreciated the photographer on the resort grounds.....but the prices for prints are RIDICULOUS. I think one photo is $16!!!! No real package deals, I think the CD was maybe $200.....its just a rip off. They don't even have a resort border or emblem for the pictures....$16 for ONE!?!?! I only purchased one. One thing I can say....everything is on "Caribbean time" and we encountered what folks call "Caribbean attitude" from a few of the women employees. My mom had to tell the lady in the Photoshop about herself...she was rude as soon as we stepped in the door. She had an attitude, was hardly helpful, didn't smile....that contributed to us not wanting to purchase more photos. There were several times we asked for things in our rooms (floor mat, ice bucket, help with AC, etc)...my mom had to wait 2 days before she was assisted with her AC. For whatever reason, the electricity on the safe stopped working, and my cousin had no access to her passport or money for 2 days until they came to fix the machine. I brought metallic balloons in hopes that they could be filled with helium on the resort. The resort filled the balloons with oxygen, not realizing that helium is what makes balloons float hahaha. That was funny...frustrating....but funny. It all worked out in the end. Even though my balloons didn't float, I was able to hold them and pose for my photos lol. Also, shout out to Jayne for buying me a cake! I had a birthday dinner at Oceana restaurant, and my cake was delivered to the restaurant. The servers sang happy birthday and brought out my cake, it was so nice!FYI, ladies night at Margaritaville is on Thursday. I loved that a shuttle was provided to and from the resort multiple times through the night.Overall, there was a lot of great staff (Deandra, Sky, Errol, Richard at the Coco Café, Jeanelle at the Bar), the beach/ resort was clean and maintained well, WIFI worked well, and the stay was enjoyable. HOWEVER, I would not return to this resort. I'm positive there are better resorts in MoBay.

Wonderful time

We had a great time at this hotel. The grounds were perfectly manicured and the rooms were very nice. This was by far the best food we had at an all inclusive. The best restaurants were Himitsu and El Patio- food was awesome. We weren't able to do the hibachi grill at Himitsu becaus you need to make a reservation for that and apparently 3 days isn't far enough in advance- but we did eat off the menu and it was great! They have a great coffee bar and a soft serve ice cream machine that we used every day. The showers had excellent water pressure with plenty of hot water, bed was comfortable, the AC was super cold and the room was very clean. First time at an adults only resort and that part was awesome! The whole staff was super friendly and helpful! We definitely recommend this hotel!

Weekend Trip to a Good resort

Secrets St. James was exactly what you would expect from an all inclusive resort. The rooms were your typical setup, they did seem a bit dated but everything was very clean and comfortable. The pools were nicely taken care of but word to the wise they are not heated so the water can be a bit chilly in the mornings. If you are going to stay spend the money to upgrade to the preferred club, it is worth the extra money to have a place to enjoy cocktails small plates of food and get access to the other resorts across the way. The food was your typical all inclusive style food, nothing really blew us away other than the Jerk Chicken served outside mid-day by the pool. Holy Moly!!! It was out of this world. The best part of the weekend stay in my opinion was the staff. Everyone that I met at the resort was extremely friendly and willing to help you out with anything you needed. We have traveled to a lot of islands and being from Florida we usually try and take a weekend trip to a Caribbean Island all-inclusive resort to unwind, this was a great selection for weekend stay.
