Our Opinion

Secrets St. James is a great resort destination for anyone wanting luxurious and top-notch service. With great food options, quality drinks, gorgeous beaches and a plethora of activities within reach, the Secrets St. James is a prime all-inclusive resort for couples and adults wanting a quieter and relaxing getaway.

Overview
With a stunning location on a private, sugar-white sand beach, Secrets St. James presents guests with a quiet, relaxing, oceanfront destination. The resort's classic furniture and modern fabrics echo this modern take on the sophistication of the Victorian era. Should a guest want to kick up the excitement a notch, there's Secrets Wild Orchid next door, with it's welcoming Jamaican vibe. The best of two worlds.

Location: Beachfront, 35 minutes from Montego Bay Airport.

Not perfect

My husband and I went to Secrets St James and we were not totally satisfied with the service. We had to request hand towels often and received half bottles of shampoos. The staff at the buffet were very helpful, friendly, and courteous especially Clive and Kimberly Kloh. The upper management team could learn a thing or two from their staff since they were not courteous or friendly. The resort is beautiful and clean, activities and entertainment need a overhaul nothing exceptional. Leo from the bar was an awesome mixologist and comedian.

Lovely Hotel

This hotel is in fact on the same property as Secrets Wild Orchid, but you have access to all the amenities for both hotels, the only difference is individual reception.Room lovely and well appointed with views over the sea, we had a couple of small issues but they were sorted out, but be aware of the 'privacy light', click this on by mistake and you don't get your room serviced. The restaurants are fantastic, staff friendly and helpful, the breakfast and lunch buffet very varied and fresh. The evening dining options great and we never had to be waited to be seated, the best restaurant we found was Oceana. The Coco Café was open 24 hoursThere was plenty of entertainment of a good standard. There was a lot of reserving sunbeds but you could always find a sun bed. The pools very clean and the beach was kept clean and after a heavy sea all the seaweed was quickly removed. The gym was good and air conditioned but got very busy in the morning. The spa was well appointed and my therapist Joycelyn was delightful, very professional and gave a fantastic Hot Stone Massage. The nature walk was very informative. They are building a new hotel across the road and accessed by an enclosed bridge, this is for a part of the chain Breathless, I feel that this is going to spoil St James as the guests at Breathless have no beach so are going to be able to access the St James beach as well as the gym, spa and restaurants but the St James and Wild Orchid guests cannot access Breathless. I feel this will lead to overcrowding. Such a shame for a lovely hotel such as St James.

Fantastic place to Honeymoon!

We are Unlimited Vacation Club (UVC) Members, and this was our first trip since we joined. We were greeted like VIPs at the door by Michael and Corinne and were immediately guided to a quiet lounge and offered a beverage while the UVC staff took care of the "checking-in" process. We saw Michael and Corinne multiple times throughout our stay, and they regularly recognized us by name and checked-in to make sure we were all set every time they saw us! Michael was also a blast on the Catamaran trip we took! At first, we were slightly disappointed to find out what a busy time of year this was to travel, and that there were no upgraded rooms available to us. However, the standard room in the main building was perfect for us! There was actually construction going on in the area of the resort where the "preferred rooms" are, and we appreciated not being near all the construction noise disturbance!! The room had a stand up marble shower, WITH a shaving pedestal! The room was overall all open floor plan, only the shower and toilet room had doors. This actually allowed for nice view over the balcony from whereever you were in the room, INCLUDING the jacuzzi soaking tub, barely big enough for two though. This is probably strange to comment on - but I was also actually really impressed by the softness of the toilet paper!!! They also stocked the room with a fair amount of bathroom toiletries, (shampoo, conditioner, body gel, shave cream (in a tube), one-blade razor, q-tips, cotton balls, etc.). We were on the 5th floor, which also afforded us a great view of the main pool, which had a swim up bar, and a perfect look out over the beach & ocean. Smoking is permitted on the room balconies, we are non-smokers, and this was really the only time we were bothered by the smoke and didn't get to fully enjoy our balcony. The king size bed and pillows were very comfortable. A few of the linens had stains, but housekeeping was very amenable to switching them out immediately. The UVC staff member, Nadia, that was assigned to us as members had a plate of fruit, a bottle of red wine, and a basket of flowers welcoming us to our room (we later were also able to get a "honeymoon" banner on our door). Most of the staff were very welcoming, we only encountered a few less than friendly staff throughout the rest of the resort. We also loved all the food & entertainment options. Nadia & Andrea truly made this trip memorable for us, and we can't wait to bring our friends back!

Very friendly and welcoming resort!

When we first arrived at the resort, our room wasn't ready. Check-in is at 3:00 p.m. and we arrived at 2:30. They advised us to go have lunch and then return. We finally got in our room around 3:45 p.m. They wanted us to come back to the desk by 4:00 to schedule our return shuttle, etc. The food here is excellent. The lobster burger at the Seaside Grill wasn't the best, but they have plenty of other options that were great and they also have a nice salad bar. The only restaurant we didn't get to try was the Italian, but all others were great!I can't say enough about the bartenders at the pool - they are all happy and singing and my favorites were Alvin, Marlando and Kedeisha. They will take care of you! There was one waitress there that never smiled and wore sunglasses and so we never ordered a drink from her again and part of her name tag was covered - she was really the only one we found to be unpleasant.Coco Café was a very good place to get coffee any time of the day. They have a good variety. Depending on when you go, sometimes the lines are long and they probably could use a few more people there, but it was worth the wait.We had the romantic dinner on the beach one night and that was lovely. We went snorkeling one afternoon and I thought the reef would have been more colorful, but it was still nice to swim with the fish - just be careful of the jellyfish! They have a list of entertainment each day. The girl at the pool calling bingo numbers needs a microphone because we couldn't hear them but she said you have to move to the side of the pool where she is if you want to hear. I think Secrets could invest in a microphone for her.The rooms here are very nice, except I think they could get new pillows - ours were not very good. They do not stock the bar every day - we had to ask for more bottled water a few times. We were here for our honeymoon and we had an awesome time - it was hard coming back to Michigan and snow after enjoying the warmth of Jamaica for a week.

IMPECCABLE GROUNDS AND BREATHTAKING VIEWS

We usually stay at the Iberostar or Excellence properties BUT we were very impressed with this property. From the time we arrived until departure everyone was just so friendly. Lots of things to do--day and night, you really don't even have to leave the property. Make sure you bring something white because they will tie dye it along the beach. There's also a great little restaurant called the Barefoot grill along the beach. It has hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chip and taco chips. Also don't forget about the Jerk Chicken man along the walk way by the beach. We usually stayed at the beach because even though my husband went out at 7am the chairs around the pool were always taken. NO BIGGIE Our turn down service attendant was Ann Marie, I tipped her at night and she actually left me a thank you note. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. (so thoughtful) We travel frequently and that is the 1st time I EVER got a little thank you note. I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT. I'd also like to give a shout out to Wayne at the Bordeaux, Courtney at Portifino, Ryan at the World Cafe, and Denmar at Himitsu. All EXCELLENT waiters. Could not get reservations at Himitsu BUT it worked out even better. We got our own little table and Denmar sang STAND BY ME and we were even able to watch all three shows as they were going on at the big tables. Thanks Kimberly (Concierge) for taking such good care of us. YOUR THE BEST Keep in mind if you don't get to shop there are plenty of stores at the Airport and they do not charge 16% sales tax. Last but not least Amstar is in the hotels and along the beach, JTL is located at the shopping plaza. We'll be back
