We stayed for Christmas and New year 2016 and we had a brilliant time. The hotel is very clean and in the staff are really friendly and always happy and singing. They made us feel very welcomed. The rooms are a nice size and have all that you need in them. The beech is great and so are the pools and the jerk chicken is fab.The Christmas and new years eve celebrations were fantastic and they really put on good nights entertainment. All the restaurants are great and the food is so yummy with lots of choices. The only down side that we found was the price for a taxi to get to the hip strip was well over priced about $60 for 3 to 4miles journey one way.and the coco cafe could have another member of staff in as there was always a long queue to get a coffee. But apart from that I would definitely recommend this hotel and we would love to go back.
Food quality could be better. Some staff members should be more friendly. Long lines to get to breakfast. Nice beach and rooms. CoCo café selection is not as god as at the other hotels we use to visit, also long waiting line, since only one waiter is available. Food selection in restaurants are minimal.
PROS: We loved that this resort is adult-only. The entertainment and such is geared toward couples/adults opposed to family/kids. They generally have some sort of entertainment show on most evenings. They even had a "Secrets Got Talent" show where guests could actually participate if they were a singer, dancer, comedian, etc. They had an Ideal Couple Contest, which is sort of like the Newlywed TV Show; however, being that it's adults only, it's far more entertaining. We were laughing so hard! The staff is great! They treat you very well. Leo was one of the bar tenders on the beach and he was awesome! He was always high energy, signing, dancing, cracking jokes, suggesting drinks, etc. He remembered us whether he saw us walking somewhere or on the beach and he always got our drinks right! He's very good what he does! Garfield and Jerome were our butlers. Both of them were excellent. They made dinner reservations for us and even if we didn't request anything they would check in with us often to see what our plans for the day were and if they could be of any help!We stayed on the Preferred side. It was a more quite environment, which we prefer. There were always spots on the beach where you weren't super close to other couples. They have a 24 hour coffee shop, which was fabulous! You could go at anytime and get hot chocolate, frozen coffee, iced coffee, regular coffee, etc. They also had a standard ice cream machine (Vanilla, Chocolate, and Twist), but it was only available from 10am-10pm, so no late-night ice cream snack! They had a water of the day, everyday! Some were strange like seaweed, carrot, and lettuce water (each a different water), but they also had really good ones like lime and cucumber. The buffet they have for breakfast and lunch is over the top! We've never seen such a large buffet. They have different smoothies and drinks (the smoothies were amazing), all kinds of different breads, cheeses, snacks, seafood, fruit, stir fry, etc. They know how to mix their drinks! We figured being that it was all-inclusive that the drinks would be weak. Much to our surprise, they were strong! In the U.S. you go out to dinner and order a $6-12 drink and it's not all that strong. Here, it was included in your package and it was stronger than a drink you would pay for in the U.S.The bed was extremely comfortable! The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. We slept so well and often times would lay in it during the day between doing things because it was so comfortable! The shower was great! The water pressure was awesome and the temperature was great! CONS: Overall, the food was okay. The menus were written using fancy language, some of which we didn't understand. Each restaurant only offers a few different items for the appetizer, entire, and dessert. Sometimes, we just decided to order room service because it seemed better than some of the restaurants. After about 10pm, your only option really for food is room service because the restaurants shut down. They really need to have a steak house. Something that serves good steak and ribs! They should close down whichever restaurant does the worse and turn it into a steak house. The food in the preferred lounge really wasn't all that great. Sometimes the food wasn't cold, when it should have been (like cheese slices) and it was random stuff like sushi and such. They didn't offer Red Stripe Light in a bottle, it was draft only. The only beer you could get was Red Stripe, Red Stripe Light, and Miller Light, Red Stripe was the only beer you could get in a bottle and Miller Light was in a can. We were shocked that we couldn't get Bud Light being that Jamaica is a high tourist area for the United States and Bud Light is one of the number one beers sold in the U.S. There drink menu is rather limited. I was looking through their drink menu and there wasn't a whole lot catching my eye. That's shocking for me because I normally have a problem deciding which drink to get because I love so many. After a few days, I started asking the bar tender can you make something that taste like this or that. Finally I found a few different drinks that I really liked, none of which were on their menu. For the most part, I was able to go to the different bars and order the same drink. So, they should really expand on their drink menu because they can make a lot more. Also, we kept seeing people walk around with all these different drinks and kept trying to figure out what kind they were because again they weren't on the menu. For us, we felt that the romantic dinner wasn't worth the money. Again, the food wasn't all that great and a lot of it was random stuff we never heard of. If they offered a better selection of food items it might be more worthwhile, but we would never do the romantic dinner again unless it was completely free and even then we would have to think about it.We had a lizard in our room! We were on the ground level, which was nice, but we were only there a day or two and I found a small lizard next to my side of the bed! We trapped it in a cup and took it down to the front desk and they just said to leave it there and someone will take care of it and acted like it was no big deal.It can be hard to get good rates on a good room. We got lucky through booking our trip through a third party, but when I was checking to go back next year it's like an additional $1,000. We would go there more often if they had cheaper rates on the room that we like. You would think that they rather have people come back more often through lowering their prices than to have people come less often because of prices being too high. They offer limited TV Channels. If you just want to chill in your room for awhile or watch TV before you go to bed, they have limited channel options. We were still able to find a few channels that air in the U.S., but they could improve on their selection. The toilet has very little privacy. We like how the bathroom is open and you can slide the curtain over and watch TV while you're in the tub and such, but when it comes to the toilet, that should have a level of privacy from the rest of the room. The door and little side wall doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling, you can see through slightly, and can hear just about everything, Yes, you're generally going there with your husband or wife, but it's still something that you would some privacy.
We visited Secrets Wild Orchid between December 30th and January 9th , we were delayed three and a half hours and waited a further hour on the bus at the airport due to stragglers coming through the airport, as a result we arrived at the resort extremely tired at 1.30 am Check in was quick and the staff extremely helpful. The bellboy took us to the room and explained about room service which we duly ordered, we waited approximately 30 minutes for hot food and a cold beer .The pool area is really good with plenty of loungers ( you had to be up by 9.00 to get one) if not plenty of room on the beach loungers . 99% of the staff were cheerful and really helpful and couldn't do enough to make your stay as wonderful as it could possibly be . The New Years party on the beach and firework display were awesome . All the restaurants are first class special shout out to Chef Lifeja at Himitsu absolute star and fantastic food . Great coffee at Cafe Coco open 24 hours and not forgetting the jerk chicken carts on the beach everyday an absolute must ! The rooms are lovely with really comfortable beds and a stocked fridge everyday with red stripe, soft drinks and water. Fabulous holiday at a great resort and already looking forward to our next visit .
Just returned from my second stay within a three month period of time at Secrets Wild Orchid Jamaica. Excellent experiences on both trips. The airport in Jamaica was easy to navigate and it was a quick 20 minute car ride from the airport to the resort. With the exception of one day trip to Negril 7 Mile Beach and Rick's Cafe, we stayed at the resort the entire trip.Felt very safe. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. The resort was extremely clean. Housekeeping did a great job with the rooms and the property was well kept. The resort has multiple pool areas and beach access. This was great because depending on our mood we could be in a quiet area; an area with music; an area with activities; by a pool or by the beach. The food was excellent and there were many restaurants to choose from at this resort, many of them the same restaurants you'll find at the other Secrets resort properties. Most of the people at the resort were couples. The preferred club had excellent alcohol selection and good availability.I'll definitely return next time I travel to Jamaica.
