10 Year Anniversary

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary at this property and they did such an excellent job at making our day special. Simone the Wedding Manager and Annalisa the Wedding Coordinator were both so helpful and attended to our every needs. They made sure that we had the 10 year vow renewal that we had dreamed of. I can't thank the two of them enough for everything that they did for us. I was also impressed by the staff on property. My wife hurt her foot and had to wear a boot. After advising the resort of my wife's injury they made sure that we were placed in a room that was very accessible with a wheel chair and close to everything so that we didn't have to travel too far from the pool, shops, and dining areas. It was also very helpful that they were able to provide us with a wheelchair for the entire duration of our stay. The staff was very friendly and many asked how we were doing on a daily basis. We truly felt pampered and well take cared of. We had an amazing time and they truly made our special anniversary a time that we will never forget.

Anniversary

Lovely place to spend a couples vacation!!! The best tour guide is Daneka. Go out with her and your tour will have a great time!!! We had a blast with our group from all over the country. The rooms were beautiful as we had a room on the fifth floor. The food was great, especially at the Blue Mountain Restaurant. Please book a dinner on the beach. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Customer service was awesome. The only issue I have is that we paid a lot of money for VIP service in the airport going home . We were supposed to have VIP privileges from the entrance until the lounge . The lounge didn't open until 5 am, there was no one at the entry for security and we were there by 4:30am. We will be calling back asking for a partial refund as this should have not occurred.Other than the VIP experience which wasn't VIP for us, the stay at the hotel was great

What an Amazing Place!

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon for 2 weeks. IT IS INCREDIBLE. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left was pure joy and I wish I could have stayed longer. The Bellmen greet you outside and take your bags to your room, offer you a drink for check in (which was so easy). Unfortunately they did not have our booking down as a honeymoon originally, so we didnt have a banner on the door, but this was put right by the time we had come back from dinner. There are so many places to eat here. The buffet breakfast and lunch are great, my only criticism of this was the very crispy bacon, not the British way of doing it!The evening restaurants are great, and the food and service is superb, Esp the French. The staff are what make the Hotel though, every single one are so happy and friendly, from the gardeners to the bartenders. I want to especially mention Nico in the lobby bar. He made sure our glasses were never empty and kept us entertained with challenges and jokes. Ask him about his Donkey.Marlando at the barracuda bar is great as well, such an infectious personality. We had an ocean view room which was amazing, the bed was so large I lost my wife each night! And there is a very nice Jacuzzi bath to have a soak in.The pool and beach are great areas too, no need to bring a towel down as these are supplied in hut around the pool. The water is so clear in the sea that you can see the fish around your feet. Another great feature is the barrels of ice with water bottles in them scattered around the site, so that you can always and easily grab a cold bottle.Make sure you catch the Jerk Chicken smoker being pushed around, as well as the fresh cut open coconuts, which if to take to Marlando, he will fill with rum!I could go on and on, but I just want to take the time to Thank Secrets Wild Orchid for ensuring my Wife and I had a honeymoon we will remember forever.

A relaxing anniversary trip

My wife and I visited Secrets Wild Orchid from June 17-21 for our tenth anniversary. The resort is about 15-20 minutes from the airport and in a nice location. We arrived early, so they didn't have our room ready yet, but they worked hard to get us in a room as soon as possible. Our first room wasn't in great shape, so they immediately sent a bellman to move our luggage and give us a key to the new room. The second room was great and we enjoyed our stay very much. The wi-fi system was great and reliable (inside and outside), so we were able to use FaceTime and iMessage to keep in touch with our daughter back home. The room temperature was fine and the mattress was very comfortable. Like most resorts in tropical areas, the hallways are open air.We found the property to be very clean and the staff helpful and friendly. The food was very good and the service top notch. Tipping was appreciated but not expected at all. I enjoyed the vast selection of the breakfast buffet. Lunch was usually chicken from the jerk chicken cart (keep in mind that the sauce is very, very spicy), or one of the poolside restaurants. Dinner opens at 6 and you have a number of restaurants situated around what appears to be a central kitchen. The restaurants are basically open air, but we found them comfortable. The beach was quite nice. There are actually several separate beaches, and they are all separated by rock outcroppings, so if you are looking for a place to take a long walk on the beach, you are out of luck. The upside is that the beach is private and you aren't hassled by anyone. There were plenty of chairs available all day. The beach crowd was pretty relaxed, with people reading, drinking and swimming. It sounded like the pool was more of a social atmosphere. We enjoyed our time at Secrets Wild Orchid and would return.

Experience -Good and Bad from check in to check out

We booked out honeymoon with cheapcarribean.com for a week at Secrets Wild Orchid. Booking went smoothly. Location from the airport was 15 minutes and we did not have to wait around for a ride at the airport. Upon arrival we were greeted with a glass of champagne and cool towel. We checked in and that went smoothly and after we finish, we were sent to the concierge. Our concierge was very welcoming. She told us that they wanted to treat us to a VIP Breakfast because it was our honeymoon and at the breakfast we would be told all they had to offer and it would only last 90 minutes. After that they would give us a private dinner for 2 on the beach. They told us to meet them at 8am the next morning in the lobby. We overslept the next morning and they called us and told us they would make it a VIP lunch. We went at the time they told us and took us to another building. As soon as we walked in it was obvious we were in a timeshare meeting. They gasp at the word timeshare and they called it points or something else.....folks, it is timeshare. We had not eaten because it was supposed to be a VIP lunch. About 30 minutes in they asked if we had eaten and told them we had not because it was supposed to be a VIP lunch. They took us to the World Cafe where we could have eaten on our own. The sales pitch continued and at after we had been there already 2 hours, I said we just want the end to come, so they call in the next person who gives you the amount. I continued to be persistent that we were not interested. At 135 minutes we were released. We were exhausted and frustrated. We go back to the concierge to ask about our private on the beach dinner. They had us fill out a menu request where we checked off what meal we wanted and which bottle of wine and then they gave us a voucher for $150 dollars. After talking to others on the beach who got free excursions to go to the meeting and some got resort credit, we looked online and the cost of a private beach meal would be $150 per person....there are 2 of us and they only gave us $150. We went to the concierge and told them we were frustrated that we went thinking this was a honeymoon gift, lasted over 90 minutes, and we are given a meal when we have unlimited food options that were free. They did...hesitantly give us resort credit instead. When our bellhop took our bags to the room upon check in he noticed the safe was broken and that he would have maintenance fix it immediately. Day 2 and no one had fixed it yet and we had to call 2 more times to get it fixed. We did want to put our wallets and passports in the safe. We also had never received all of the "bells and whistles" that we were supposed to have for our honeymoon...champagne..welcome banner on door....flowers...fresh fruit tray. We had to to call and ask about that and they were then brought up.That may seem like a lot of negative, but you walk out to the beach and interact with the workers make up for any negative. The resort was clean and our room was very updated and clean. The bed and pillows seemed to be newer. Make sure to visit the jerk chicken guy who pushes his cart along the boardwalk during the day for a short period. Best jerk chicken anywhere! On our first morning after arrival, I stopped by Barracuda bar on the way to the beach and told the bartender ( I think his name was Marlondo) that I wanted a juiced drink no alcohol. He made something that was so delicious and whenever he would see me walk up the whole week, he would say "I know what you want". I would highly recommend the spa. We went one day when one of the activities (with a small fee) was to learn how to give your partner a massage. When you do any spa treatment you get to use the hydrotherapy. It is a circuit of different treatments...steam room, cold shower, sauna, whirlpool, ice bath, jets...I have never felt such a body detox and relaxed than I did after that treatment. We loved it so much that we went back the next day to do this again. If we had discovered it on day 1, we would have gone every day of our stay. I wish I could think of the lady's name that we met on the beach that worked at the spa that was walking around promoting the spa. She was incredibly nice and helpful. Another negative I had was the smoking by the pool and in the pool. The pool is big and I would swim away from someone smoking only to be right next to someone else smoking. I wish there was a designated smoking area. We went sailing and had a wonderful experience. The night time shows were fun to sit outside and have a drink and just relax. The food is "ok". You never have a meal and think "that is the best ..... I have ever had", but you have many options. Our last night we went to the Hibachi grill. I am glad we did not go our first night, because we would have gone every night. Again, the food was ok, but the waiters and chefs really entertain. They sing and dance and get everyone at your table involved. If you don't have a good time with them, then you just need to go sit in your room. Our chef was Raye and our waiter was Devon. I hope the resort reads this, because they made our last night at the resort, our best night. We had an Ocean View room. Right in the center on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool and beach. During the day the music is loud at the pool, but you are never in your room during the day, so it is not a problem and not so loud that if you go to your room and don't have your door open that you would be bothered. At night, it is very quiet. EVERYONE working on the resort is so friendly and helpful. Some would learn your name and greet you by name when they saw you. You know they had heard the same questions a million times, but they were so excited to tell you about Jamaica and their culture. I felt like family. I never felt unsafe at all. One time we walked out of the gates onto the streets and a car pulled up and offered to sell us marijuana and we said "no thank you" and they smiled and said "have a good night, mon" and that was it. It is Jamaica, so that will happen if you go out of the resort, but they respected us saying no. The alcohol is flowing freely, but we never once experienced an annoying or belligerent drunk. Everyone is just there for the same reason...to relax and have fun. They give you an iPad at check in to use. We download the app and we connected to the free wifi and never had problems imessaging or face timing with family back home. There was always plenty of towel and chairs for the beach and pool. Someone is always walking around to take your empty drink glass and get you a fresh drink. I was so sad to leave and I can not wait to return.
