Every person we spoke with from the time we stepped into the resort was so amazing, so helpful, so inviting. Thank you Nordia and Shelly-Ann in the front lobby. We love Jamaica because of the people. Everyone makes it feel like it's your home away from home. The resort is so beautiful. The views are incredible, day and night. My wife and I have stayed at many of the Jamaica all inclusive resorts and the Secrets Wild Orchid is definitely one of the top. Our room was incredible; top floor overlooking the beautiful ocean and pool. WOW! The food was very good from the custom omelette in the morning, jerk chicken in the afternoon and then being pampered at dinner. There was always plenty of food throughout the resort at all times. The bartenders always had suggestions for something to try and always went above and beyond to make sure you are happy. Big shout out to ANDEL in the lobby bar. What does the fox say? Now to our butler Shelly-Ann. If you can request a butler, ask for Shelly-Ann. She took care of everything we needed...set up by the pool every morning, non stop flowing drinks all day long, perfect reservation at night for dinner. She was always available. We couldn't ask for anything more. Shelly-Ann is incredible. Thank you for the wonderful vacation and we're looking forward to our return trip soon.
Beautiful view of the pool area and ocean in Room 2418 in the main building for my husband's birthday week. They surprised us with cake and a door birthday banner. The weather was great (only one day of rain) and the drinks were plentiful. The pineapple daiquiri was amazing and Ewart makes a killer Mint Mojito at the swim up bar. You can be as active or as lazy as you want to be. Special shout out to the pool crew (Ewart & Erica) waiter in the World Cafe (Itasche), event staff (Bruce, Chase and Aneita) and my favorite place at night, the piano bar with O'neil for my grey goose martini and talented Andre singing on the piano. It's our home away from home but only better....No cleaning, cooking and completely entertained 24/7. Let's not forget about the pool side Jerk Chicken guy who is also available at midnight after dancing and singing. Best time EVER!!!
Although there were a few concerns and issues that impacted on our enjoyment of the holiday this was a good, clean, smart and generally well run hotel. No one tried to upgrade us to preferred on arrival and we had a partial sea view from our room that we hadn't been expecting. The staff were almost without exception friendly and very hard working. There was free wi-fi throughout the hotel that worked pretty well. It presents itself as two hotels that share bars and restaurants - Wild Orchid and St James - but to all intents and purposes it's effectively one large 700 room hotel. Our room was nice and airy although the air con kept the room too cold for us to the extent we had to switch it off at night otherwise we couldn't sleep. It was on the ground floor which made it handy to pop out to the beach bar to get a drink but meant we had to keep the balcony door securely shut most of the time. There was a bit of aircraft noise as planes flew low past the hotel as they came into land and you could hear the engines as they took off in the opposite direction but it wasn't particularly obtrusive.Breakfast buffet was excellent and so was the coffee shop which also did small rolls which we often had for lunch. The jerk chicken stall was very popular with other guests. Our main issues were around some of the other guests and their behaviours. The hotel does an awful lot of corporate business and as a consequence there were a number of large parties letting their hair down for a few days being often very loud and very drunk (shouted conversations outside our room at 3:30am). They were frequently rude to the bar staff in particular who didn't seem to mind as long they were tipped.Bars and restaurants were on occasion closed to other guests as they were taken over for a corporate event without any notice or warning. One day a group sat on the beach next to us and played music (using the word in its loosest sense) really loud. Another time a couple were playing music on the beach and were outraged when a lady asked them if they would stop.Sun beds around the pool were all reserved with towels by about 7 am although there was never any trouble getting one on the beach. One day two ladies put their sun beds in the shallow water to lie on and just left them there when they finished for the staff to rescue from the waves. Despite other guests trying to push in surprisingly we never had to queue long to get a drink at the bar although the table service sometimes disappeared for long period of time. The hotel ran out of Pinot Grigio for most of the last 5 days of the break ( the only drinkable white wine within the all inclusive package). When it re-appeared right at the end it didn't taste the same and wasn't a nice experience. With the exception of the Asian restaurant most of the food was served luke warm and because you couldn't book you might have to wait for a table (we only had to wait on three occasions the longest wait being around 45 minutes). The quality of the cocktails was variable - best in the lobby bar and very mixed at the beach bar.Like I said at the start this is not a bad hotel but with the corporate groups it's certainly not a Sandals. It's definitely put us off large resort hotels in future!
It was a little pricey, but well worth the money. If you drink, buy your liquor in the airport on your way home, much cheaper. There is so much to do in Jamaica, swimming with the dolphins and golfing was the best.
We had a great time vacationing with friends at Secrets Wild Orchid in Jamaica. The all inclusive property is nice and is located just 15 minutes from the Montego Bay airport. The beach, pool, food, staff, amenities are all good...really. No complaints. It's just that it seems all of those could have been better, especially for the price. We've done several all inclusive vacations in the Caribbean and Mexico and this resort would rate middle of the pack. Although a couple staff members (Raven, Prince, Ewart, Bubbles) were outstanding, much of the staff could have been much friendlier. Similarly, while there are enumerous food choices, the quality and taste could have been much better. The beach area accessible to guests was quite alright, but it's small. Like I said before, this is a nice resort and I think most vacationers would enjoy it but for the money I know there are better values in Punta Cana, the Mayan Riviera, Hawaii, and the other Caribbean islands. Additionally, Jamaica's reputation for being unsafe puts a bit of a damper on any aspirations one might have off the resort property.
