Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay

So, I just spent a long birthday weekend at Secret's Wild Orchid and it was pretty cool. The resort is clean and the staff is nice. Also, the food choices were amazing! I recommend World Cafe for breakfast and lunch as their buffet has anything for everyone. Since I only stayed 3.5 days so I didn't make any plans to leave the resort and I really didn't have to. There were activities, the water is right there, and shops. If you just want to get away, enjoy good food, and just relax, this is the place. The spa is nice too.
We just came back from spending 7 days at the Secrets Wild Orchid and we will definitely go back. The staff is very friendly and attentive and the entire vibe is just super relaxed. We tipped every time we have a meal to show the staff that we appreciated their attention. The Jerk chicken cart is a great addition that rolls around 11-2 everyday. We spend most of our time by the beach and it did not disappoint. If you want 7 shades of blue type water, this is the place. Make sure you take a snorkeling set so you can enjoy all the fish there. They have a reef that protects the beach so the water is always calm and refreshing. The first few days that we were there it rained in the afternoons, but we didn't mind it because we were already in the ocean, and the pool. The one drawback that happened on a nightly basis around 4-5am, was the peacock on the grounds! The way the hotel is constructed it echoes throughout the entire halls, even for us being in the 5th floor. We called several times and the staff took care of it. We did an excursion with Chukka called "The Ultimate Thrill Seekers" , which was AWESOMe! Highly recommend. The entertainment on a nightly basis was on point, ranging from a Movie by the shopping village to a outside stage and piano bar. We will go back to Jamaica, we loved every moment of it.
We decided we wanted an easy trip from Washington DC, where we didn't have a long flight or long taxi ride from our resort. The resort is nice, I would say our room and balcony was our favorite. The room was clean, the rooms are open so when using the bathroom just know it is not very private. We had a great experience with room service. I loved how they leave it in a delivery box and you don't have to be inconvenienced by answering a door. The food was okay. If you don't get to restaurant early you will most likely have to wait. They should hire more hostess staff, because even if there is not a wait it takes forever to get seated. The service is okay. The Mexican restaurant was my favorite, other than that a lot some of the food tasted pre-made or frozen. The beach bar, beach pattys are the BEST. We would save these in the fridge for later. The Jamaican jerk is good when drinking but beware when you save it for the next day. It also is literally a cut caucus so there will be bones and stuff. The game room was okay, we played the video poker most of the time. The entertainment was lacking. The indoor pavilion smells musky and like mildew and you sit down to watch and there is no getting up and dancing. I would recommend building a better outdoor pavilion. The club is interesting...be ready to see some twerking and listen to some booty music. The staff already are friendly and accommodating they seem to try to offer extra perks as well ... if you are the partying / smoking type.
My husband and I got married here last year and had 40 of our closet family and friends make the trip. They have an amazing deal for couples who marry here (2 free nights/3 days) if you choose to come back for your 1 year anniversary. We didn't need the deal to entice us, we already knew we were returning!Above all else, it's the people who make this resort so special. Everyone, from bellhops to chefs to housekeepers, the Jamaican people are so darn friendly. For those that write less than stellar reviews of the staff, I found some employees are simply shy and a smile given is almost ALWAYS returned.Rooms- we have spent time in rooms in St. James, Wild Orchid and Wild Orchid Preferred. We do prefer Wild Orchid as the rooms are a bit newer and the preferred option was nice for our wedding but didn't "need" it this time around. They are clean and spacious, beds are very comfortable.Food- something for every palate and if you're kind and ask politely, the chefs will modify a dish to your liking. Went to Himitsu 3 times this trip and is, hands down an absolute favorite. Portofino, the Italian restaurant, is a close second!Drinks- it's an all-inclusive resort, not a vineyard in Italy. I learned last year that as a wine drinker, it's going to be a little disappointing as their house wines (included with your stay) are not very good. We opted to buy a bottle of wine with dinner 4 nights. Excursions- we didn't do any last year as getting married was an excursion in and of itself. This year we went on a coffee and pineapple plantation tour to Croydon Mountain and enjoyed it but wouldn't do it again. It is an in-depth day about the history of Jamaica's produce and while the information was appreciated, we were ready to head back after the 3 hour tutorial! Note that the ride to get there is 1hr15min and very, very bumpy. We loved seeing the different areas of the country (including those in poverty, you can't complain about your wine after that gulp of perspective) and encourage doing something off property at least once in your stay.Service- like I said before, this is what makes Jamaica special. The employees are fabulous and even those that don't initially offer 5 star service can be quickly charmed if you show your appreciation and that they are people too, not just "help."A few shout outs for some memorable workers!Shelly Anne- our tour guide to the plantation. Was absolutely stellar.Vernal- server at Bordeaux.Osonie- Hibachi chef, very entertaining!Nardia- works in the cigar shop and a very knowledgeable, lovely woman who made our day when she remembered us from last year.Dale- works in one of the souvenir shops.Claudine- got a wonderful facial from her at the spa.Bobo Dreads!- works with the entertainment crew and helped our friends have an absolute blast last year and loved seeing him this year...already looking forward to next year with him!Billy Love and his Merry Men!- Billy Love is the customer service manager and oversees much of the "coming and going" of visitors. He and his bellhops are just WONDERFUL. So friendly, kind, open and helpful.
This was not my 1st time @ the Secret resorts but this like all the other times it was spectacular they have great restaurant choices, the sea side snack shop had my favourite jamaican patties, burgers, hot dogs & lots more! bars served the best drinks ever! Must say they have some well trained, friendly & efficient staff who always went above & beyond 4us during our stay dont remembertheir names but the 2 ppl on the pic made an indelible mark on us keep up the good job guys Superb Service!
