Sunscape Cove Montego Bay

I have to admit I was very pleased with the services provided by Sunscape Cove Resort & Spa, Montego Bay, Jamaica. This resort was a very last minute choice for a vacation spot. Literally making reservations on Friday for a Monday departure. The front desk staffer Diane was very accommodating upon our arrival. We were initially destined for the Splash side of the resort but Diane recommended an upgrade to the Cove side which offered additional amenities to include 2 additional restaurants. The accommodations on the Cove side were more up to date and more adult oriented. The two additional restaurants on the Cove side (DeMario and Terrace Restaurant) offered an awesome menu which included lamb chops for dinner (DeMario) and cooked to order breakfast at the Terrace. We were fortunate to meet the chef and blessed to receive our services from Jameel (or waiter) at DeMario. I would highly recommend this resort for your vacation.
The staff was very attentive and kind. Their spirit was fantastic. From the front desk gals and men who wrestled your luggage to the restaurant workers and house keepers....everyone was wonderful! We enjoyed late nights on the beach chatting with the security guards, one being a brilliant young man, Douglass. Archie, Damian, Trudy-Ann made our stay so welcoming. We will go back as soon as we can! Our children had as much fun as we did and that meant a lot.We do not have 1 complaint about our room. It was very clean and comfortable. We had Butler Quenton and he was awesome. He had the most creative drinks from fresh coconut water to real pineapples with mysterious, red slushy goodness in it. Thank you to the staff at Sunscape Cove in making this vacation unforgettable and we can only hope we'll be able to live it again next year!
We stayed at the Sunsplash Montego bay from Oct. 4th through the 9th. My husband was in a wedding at Secrets Wile Orchid, which is within walking distance of this resort. Upon arrival we were greeted with cool towels and drinks that were very refreshing. My daughter, who is 4 years old, loved her smoothie style drink. There was also a cookie jar right a top of a few steps that she could reach and she helped herself to several cookies while we checked-in. At check-in, we were upgraded to the Cove side of the resort. I highly recommend that if it fits into your budget, spring for this upgrade. Kids are allowed to stay at the cove and it provides you with some nicer restaurants and nicer rooms. The bell-hop made room on his cart for my daughter to ride on and he gave us an extensive tour of the resort. He was friendly and took time to make sure that my daughter was taken care of. We arrived in our room and we had a mini-fridge that was stocked daily. Note, even if you tip the fridge person, they will still only leave you 2 beers, 2 cokes, 4 waters, and 1 orange drink . We were hoping to get a few more beers, but I guess the extra tip didn’t provide that after several days. check-in was easy! We didn’t wait at all, but we also arrived around 3pm and Oct. is off season! So, they were not busy when we arrived. We had dinner at the buffet the first night. I was not that impressed with the buffet after the first meal. It seems like they repeat a lot at the buffet from lunch to dinner. Breakfast was your typical breakfast buffet and we were able to get the essentials. However, we were able to enjoy breakfast at the cove side and it was MUCH better! Plus we had the opportunity to enjoy bloddy mary’s, and mimosa’s, which we enjoyed. However, it took awhile for the food to come out, so plan on taking your time there. If I had one HUGE recommendation for the resort is improve your food. The buffet could use more options, and higher quality food. The service was on-point form the time we arrived. Most of the servers, hotel room attendants, and pool staff 100% paid attention to our daughter, which we highly appreciated! They went out of their way to greet her, ask her questions and engage with her. Bravo! Happy kids = happy parents! You got that down pat! We noticed throughout our stay there was constantly someone cleaning the outside areas, trimming trees or plants, and power washing services. I found the public area bathrooms clean, and well taken care of. There seems to always be someone cleaning. I also noticed an attention to having hand sanitizer available throughout the resort, which also shows that they appreciate keeping everyone healthy! The pool life guards and attendants cleaned the pools each morning. I did notice in some hidden spots that there was some leaves and bugs, but often they got to them before the pools opened at 10am. We did have to ask daily for the baby pool slide to be turned on, which sometimes was difficult to track someone down. However, the baby pool was came up to my 4 year-olds chest, and she felt really comfortable swimming there. The water park in the center of the park was great! We spent the majority of out time here! We loved the slides and the lazy river! The entertainment crew tried hard to engage guests and did well. I did notice an off area with a small miniature golf course, but you have to track down a member of the entertainment crew to get balls and clubs. It could use a face lift, but was So nice to see that this amenity was available. The Pool that overlooked the ocean was my favorite! It was gorgeous! I think on the weekend we had a influx of locals who visited the resort and got day passes. During this time I felt like I needed to keep an eye on my personal belongs at the pool a little more closely. The pools were PACKED on the weekends compared to the end of the day or during the week. I would have preferred a more quiet relaxing time on the weekend, and the pools were packed with locals. By the time dinner rolled around they were gone. The beach is small, it’s not what I’ve seen in other resorts in Jamaica. The sand is white, but the water is full of seed-weed. The staff does a great job of keeping the beach area clean, but the water is not as “blue” as we had hoped to see in the Caribbean. This is not the fault of the resort, but it is something to keep in mind. We had visited the Hard Rock Café next door and their beach area was GORGEOUS blue! However, we loved the umbrella’s on the beach and we enjoyed our time at the beach! I wish we could have listened to music while we were hanging out You are within safe walking distance of the Hard Rock Café, secrets and Breathless. We walked it easily! Just note there are people outside of the hotel waiting to take you on a “cab” ride and they will approach you. We were kind and explained that we were just walking next door, easy peasy.Internet service is SLOW!! Don’t expect to download aps or movies for the ride home. It was very spotty and often I couldn’t text while connecting to the wifi. At each sit-down restaurant the kids have their own menu. By the end of our vacation our daughter was really tired of the kid’s meals and requested something off of the adult menu. It was no problem. One night, she ordered mac and cheese and it took over an hour to get it, this was not the servers fault, he was great, but someone wasn’t getting it done in the back. I ended up feeding her my entire steak and shrimp because she was so hungry. We loved the café! Coffee in the morning was fabulous and ice cream after dinner was even better! My daughter enjoyed chocolate ice cream everyday! Desserts were awful.. I LOVE desserts, but what was served was nothing special. I felt like I was eating something defrosted, nothing was made there on site. They could really improve in this area at not only the buffet, but also the sit-down restaurants. We LOVED Stephen!!! Stephen was the bar server during the day and he was AMAZING! He carried drinks and trays on his head, got right into the water to serve you a drink and was personable! We looked for him every morning! Bravo Stephen! You’re outstanding and our favorite employee! Our room was cleaned daily, no issues here! However, if your kids nap (like mine did) then you have to track down the person who restocks the fridge daily… One day they didn’t restock our fridge after I requested it around 4:00pm, I was told at 9:00pm that it couldn’t be restocked that day. This was difficult because we wanted water for night and mornings. So, be careful if you have kids the nap during the times they re-stock and clean! At the cove we had a decent room with a nice side view of the ocean. The balcony was nice, and the bathroom area was nice and clean. I felt like the cleaning staff did a good job considering it’s a resort on the ocean! We felt safe at the resort, and never had any issues. We did use the safe in our room for our personal belongings and our passports. Entertainment at the resort in the evenings was ok. We had previously stayed at Sandals Whitehouse and they would bring people in each evening for entertainment. One night they had a fashion show which was basically an advertisement of their over priced gift shop. It was rather boring and not really kid friendly. One night they had a magician and a circus style show, our 4-year old liked this.Bars open at 10am! Drinks were not watered down and were tasty! There was only a few bars that can make dirty bananas! So, keep that in mind! I do recommend bringing a YETI or a bigger drink holder with you! This came in handy to get more than 6 oz. at a time! They had a variety of non-alcoholic drinks too, which was a big hit for my daughter! One day we scheduled family photos, this is something we do on every vacation. We were all dressed and ready to go, we went down to the Photoshop and we were told that the clouds were not pretty and that it was drizzling (it was not drizzling) and that the photographer wouldn’t go out. I was mad! It was the only night we could grab a few family photos and the photographer didn’t have any other options! I was hoping for someone to at least snag a photo of our family together. However, I put my credit card away and walked away. About 20 minutes later the manager of the Photoshop tracked me down and apologized. HOWEVER, he didn’t offer me any options! I appreciated his apology and tracking me down, but he could have offered us another session. If the Photoshop wants to sell photos, they need to actually take them! I saw many photographers walking around with cameras, but never taking any photos. When we were at Sandals Whitehouse, we purchased numerous photos from the photographers! It was nice to have someone capturing moments that you couldn’t! Our entire vacation we never had anyone take our photo, so I would recommend they revamp this and actually get some people who capture moments and sell them! Overall, I recommend this resort to a family! The staff was friendly and customer-service focused! We had an enjoyable time! I do recommend to the resort that there are so many areas of improvements that they could make and I’m hopeful that they are moving in the right direction!
Everything was good except the food...little variety. Also, the fruit section was zero. Considering the fact that Jamaica is a tropical country, one would expect this hotel bursting with a variety of tropical fruits. For the kids, ages 3 to 12, the resort was excellent.
Just had a great stay at sunscape cove ! Â Wonderful staff throughout , but I would like to make special note of the great customer service from Crissann at the front desk and Quinton the butler. This place was pure relaxation this time of year! Beautiful beach with tons of sea life to see and at the jerk hut at the far end to I could not go a day without a taste. While I am not a huge buffet guy the food looked good with hot cooking station and fresh food. I can speak to the Terrace restaurant and DaMario which were both excellent ala carte choices. There was a great bbq night while here as well. Had my 3 boys here and the soaked up the fun in the water park most of their days. Â If it's available I will absolutely get the service upgrade for 100$ per night when you check in..it was worth every penny for the ocean room and pool and beach side VIP service. My improvement recommendation would be better garbage collecting in the water, seemed like a lot of plastic I Â the shallow water that could be easily cleaned. I would absolutely recommend this place to couples and families!
