Sunscape Cove Montego Bay

We went to Sunscape Cove from June 6-13th. Upon arrival we were asked if we were interested in upgrading to a beachfront room which we did. The room, including the bathroom, had been recently updated and it was very nice. We loved sitting on the balcony at night listening to the waves.....so relaxing. The food at all of the specialty restaurants....PortoFino, Gohan and the Seaside Restaurants on the Splash side and the Terrace Restaurant and DaMario on the Cove side were very good. Windows Buffet which we ate at only once, was good with a wide variety of food. The Barefoot Grille was great for a quick lunch or snack. Coco Cafe (open 24 hrs) and the Jerk Chicken cart on the beach was a wonderful addition since we were there last time. The employees were unbelievable.....very friendly and helpful, wish I could remember everyone's names but I do remember Carol from the Terrace Restaurant as being outstanding. All of the waitstaff (ex..Ted, Romano) were amazing and grateful for our business. We spent every evening that we could with Frank the piano man. We would go back to Sunscape just to see this wonderful gentleman play his beautiful music and listen to his stories as he shared his vast knowledge of music. Check in and check out were quick and efficient. There was always plenty of chairs on the beach and you can snorkel off the beach. The private beach for Cove guest is nice and quiet but the water has a lot of sea grass in it. The mini bar in the room was replenished every day. Would we go back.....absolutely!!!
I love this resort. My boyfriend and I stayed here recently for an early birthday treat. I'll break up my review into categories:CHECK-IN: From the moment we got off of the shuttle, we were greeted by Rohan who took our luggage and offered us beverages. This was my first all-inclusive experience so I was pleasantly surprised. We arrived about 3 hours early for check-in so we had no issues with waiting until the actual 3pm check-in time but when we told the woman at the front desk, Aneka, she told us that this would not be an issue and there were rooms available - sweet! She even offered us an upgrade to the Cove side with a beach view (originally we booked Sunscape Splash not knowing the differences and a run of the house room). She gave us two rooms to choose from and the option to view them. Rohan kindly drove us to view the rooms and after seeing the beautiful ocean view, we knew we had to upgrade! The view itself is worth it. We negotiated a price and everything went smoothly. Thank you, Aneka and Rohan for being so kind. Also, they put "happy birthday/anniversary" on your room door if you are celebrating a either one of these special occasions. If you're a repeat guest, you get one too!ROOM:The room was very nice. Simple and clean. Angella kept our room tidy every day. She is such a nice person and even recalled when we asked one of the staff members about her on a day that she was out due to an emergency. Glad everything was okay, Angella :) The balcony was spacious and inviting. Again.. we loved our view. It was so great to be able to sit and listen to the ocean every morning. Nora who does the turn down service was also so very sweet. She gave us the activity sheet for the next day and even some Hershey kisses. Our fridge was stocked with water, soda, and beer every day. Never had any issues. Room service was also great. Ed who delivered our food was a very nice man sometimes even bringing the food in on his head, haha. The food would take a little while to come sometimes but this didn't bother us. They also offer free wifi which is a huge plus and worked pretty good all around the resort.BEACH:The beach is nice. It does have a lot of seaweed and rocks but I've experienced that with many other beaches as well. After getting over the rocky layer, you can swim out to enjoy the water. My boyfriend and I did not have any trouble getting a chair or beach towels. We were also allowed to play our music. There are people walking up and down the beach taking drink orders which is very nice. Be sure, to visit the Jerk Hut located at the end of the beach. Keneil makes the best jerk chicken!!! It's extra tasty and you'll get a few laughs from him as well. RESTAURANTS/FOOD:I really enjoyed them all. Portofino, Gohan, Seaside Grill, Terrace, and De Mario were all very good. If you're dining on the Splash side (Portofino, Seaside, and Gohan), you may have to wait if you're dining late. I recommend getting there by 7pm the latest in order to ensure a table. They get very busy. Gohan was definitely my favorite. They served delicious Asian cuisine. If you dine at Terrace you'll have an amazing view. A big thank you to Muta and Annemarie for being such nice waiters. Also if you go to the Windows Café, you'll find a nice variety of food to choose from. I never got tired of it. Since we are from the Caribbean ourselves, it was lovely to see the Jamaican cuisine stations... the curry chicken was yummy! Coco Café I will admit, could be better. It is the only place open 24/7 and lacks variety but we were still able to order some good sandwiches and cookies.ENTERTAINMENT:Oh boy! The entertainment team is just a ball! They are so much fun. Every night Sunscape hosts some sort of a show and we enjoyed it very much. The talent show was so amusing and hilarious! They did a great job. There's also a bar in the show room area so that's a plus. There's entertainment for the kids including a pretty cool water park. The kid in me definitely took advantage of the water slides and lazy river. Wish there were more tubes for the lazy river though. The team did a great job entertaining the adults by the adult swim up bar/pool. BIG shout out to Dimitri-funniest and coolest guy ever, Soneka-I absolutely adore her! She's a blast and I miss her!, Tishane, Kasey-Ann, Kaylia, Konijah, Christopher, Marshalee, and Ohana. Hope I didn't forget anyone or misspell the names. The only thing I wish was that the Desire Lounge play more dancehall music. There was a lot of Rap and Hip-Hop which is fine but after an hour or two it would be nice if they switched it up. One night, Dimitri and Soneka from the entertainment team hung out with everyone and turned the place up!! The dancehall was flowing and they showed us a fun/funny time. Oh man! But there is also a bar of course, pool tables, and a little casino.OVERALL SERVICE/BARTENDING STAFF:Fantastic! The bartenders were all so amazing and so funny. Thank you Clifton, Orlando, Shaquille, Norvall, Lenworth, Suetanya, Osheda for being so wonderful and doing what you do. You all work very hard to meet the demand of the guests (as does the rest of the staff). Working the bar can be very tough so thank you! There were many times where I didn't know what I wanted a drink/shot of and they surprised me with some good stuff. Every day there is a new "drink of the day". Be sure to get the Bob Marley shots! This resort doesn't serve premium alcohol so if you are very specific about what you drink then this may not be the place for you. Fortunately, I don't really care. Though the drinks didn't make me "drunk", I was completely fine with that because who wants to be drunk their entire vacation? Not me! I was able to actually enjoy my drinks while maintaining a small buzz most days. If you want your drink stronger- just ask! My boyfriend also bought his own liquor from the duty free to indulge in while in the room. No big deal to us.Additionally- there are service desks available to book excursions. Daniel helped us with our Dune Buggy excursion and was very informative.Thank you Sunscape for giving me and my boyfriend a very memorable trip. Everyone was amazing to us. We will be back again!P.S. My boyfriend and I believe it is necessary to tip those who you feel provided great service. While it is not mandatory, a few dollars here and there is appreciated by the staff. We know you work hard and we tried very hard to remember each and every person's name who treated us so nicely. Thank you once again!
My family has just returned from a week long vacation at Sunscape Cove Montego Bay and it was fantastic. We have been to several all inclusive resorts but never to Jamaica and based on our previous experience we were not expecting much. We were blown away at what a great family resort this was. The resort has everything you need for a great break from the everyday grind - beach, water park, restaurants and more. We only left the resort once and that was to swim with the dolphins which was amazing. Our room was clean but the best part of the room was the location right on the beach. The front of the room exited to the water park and the rear sliding doors opened right onto the beach. Although my wife and I are more beach people my kids lived in the water park. We could not get them off the two huge water slides and my wife really enjoyed the lazy river. The staff were extremely helpful and not just pleasant like at other resorts but very happy to interact with you. Everyone from the greens keeper who got my boys fresh mangos from the mango tree in the court yard to the bar tenders who knew my boys by name as they tried every kids drink on the kids menu. There were however three staff members who stood our amongst the rest. First was Chrisann at the front desk who went above and beyond filling our special request. Then secondly there was Sandra part of the house keeping staff who brought my boys geckos and was a great help with all our room request and last but certainly not least O Wayne who was a bell help by job title but really was our go to guy for anything from information, to tours around the property and even a magician to for our sons. We did have one small hiccup with a contract company onsite but after speaking with the extremely helpful Mrs Lorna Clarke (Manager) everything was quickly rectified. Mrs Clarke was true to her word when she told me previously the staff were there to ensure we had a great stay. I would recommend this property to any family looking for a great family vacation with beaches and water parks. I almost forgot when you stay on the cove side you can utilize all amenities on the splash side and then come back to the quieter Cove side. However people staying on the splash side are unable to come to the Cove side. We would like to say THANK YOU to Sunscape Cove for a great week long break and we are already looking at going back this winter.
From the moment we got off the plane the people were as friendly as could be. The hotel was better than expected. We had a little issue and the manager took care of it immediately. She went above and beyond to make sure that we're pleased. Truly every one of the staff were cordial and very pleasant. This was an anniversary trip and they had several surprises for us from a banner on our door to breakfast served to us in our room. We will come again.
The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. OWayne, Conrad, the wait staff and others all made this trip a relaxing one from the moment we entered the property. There is a family feel to the resort overall.
