Sunscape Cove Montego Bay

We just returned from 6 days at Sunscape Cove. Our stay was a mixture of really good and poor experiences. Most of the staff was warm and attentive and made us feel very welcome. Our kids age 9 and 12 really enjoyed the water slides. The mini golf was also a hit. There were a variety of games including pool, ping pong, checkers, chess and more. The rooms were adequate and we enjoyed having adjoining rooms for a reasonable rate giving us lots of space for the four of us. However we had a very noisy air conditioner and a shower that didn't work well. Hot water was hit or miss. The biggest downside was the food. Despite nice servers, they could not make up for an extremely disappointing food experience. After some really poor experiences on the Splash side we stayed mostly at the restaurant in the Cove. Even there things were not good. Breakfast was ok but the fruit on the buffet was lacking flavor and variety. We saw cantaloupe only once and after that they were out of it every day. All that we had to choose from was tasteless honeydew and watermelon and some citrus fruit. Dinner service was incredibly slow, often taking over an hour to get our entrees. We missed part of the evening entertainment one night because it took an hour and a half to get the entrees. The waiters were always concerned and hard working so it seemed that the problem was the kitchen. On the last night the pizza my daughter ordered was completely inedible. We suspect the cheese had gone bad because it was so awful. I ended giving her half of my very dry pork loin and rice because she was too hungry to wait for a replacement meal. We ate from the Windows buffet on the Splash side for lunch a couple days to have a quick meal and the food couldn't have been worse. Even the white rice didn't taste good. The Barefoot Grill looked dirty inside and the food was worse than any fast food restaurant I've ever been to. It was tough to overlook the impact of the food since food is a big part of us our enjoying vacation. One night we visited the Hard Rock Care next door for an expensive meal just to have a better meal. The entertainment was mixed as well. The best nights were the circus acts and cultural shows.
We bought a 4 day package to this resort from VIP vacations/Global Bureau for our visit this October 2017 and really enjoyed our stay here. The service was amazing, the property was beautiful, our room was very nice and the food was great! I really want to thank Briana Quintin from Executive Services from Globalbureau for assisting me with this purchase and for being so attentive to all of my questions and needs prior to arriving here. I would recommend her as well as this place for a nice affordable Jamaica vacation!
We found this resort to be a very friendly place where the staff did everything they could for you from Nadine in housekeeping to the "chicken man" who cooked delicious jerk chicken everyday in the early afternoon at the far end of the beach (the best place to grab a chair near the bar, the chicken, and bathrooms). The bartenders were great too especially Garcia, Alex, Orlando (who is happy to serve drinks with a dance), Kimalie and of course, crazy Steven. The location is close to the airport and often one of the last places to be picked up and dropped off on excursions. Food was good and there is a lot of variety. Would highly recommend this resort to anyone vacationing in Montego Bay. For families, there was lots of pools for kids to enjoy.
Special mention to the server Jameel (Terasse and Da Mario) for his service, his good mood and his dynamism. Hey Jameel, do not forget: in French we call a hug (¨un callin¨). Thank you, you make the Jamaican people even more sympathetic.
I was really worried by reading the reviews prior to our vacation. We did have a room that was renovated. It was always cleaned promptly each day and the fridge was replenished as well. We also had a problem as others mentioned of regulating the water temperature while showering. You always had to be ready to step back if the water got extremely hot. The staff here is what makes this place!!! The Terrace Restaurant/Demario's staff were awesome. We had breakfast and lunch daily here, and all the staff were so friendly and accommodating. We had excellent service at night by Jameel. He went above and beyond so that we had an excellent dinner experience. We did go to dinner early so we did not have any trouble getting seated. We were usually finished with dinner in an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. No complaints. We really wish that sometime in the future they would make the Cove side adult only. At minimum it would be nice to have a few specialty restaurants to be adult only in the evening. The Splash side does have evening activities so the parents can have dinner alone if they wish. We had a very pleasant experience at the Cove.
