We just got back from a week at Sunscape Cove (April 14-21). We booked this resort based on the recommendation of our travel agent and are so glad we did. The Cove side was perfect for our family, including our 7-year-old daughter. The resort is easy to navigate - the perfect size. We were originally supposed to have a family room on the West side, facing into the water park, but Shane at reception fixed us up with a king room and a cot in the East side where the rooms are renovated. Huge difference when it comes to the rooms and we were very grateful for her help. Natasha from housekeeping took great care of us all week, making sure our room was spotless and my daughter had a new towel sculpture waiting for her every day! All the Trip Advisor comments about the kindness, professionalism and service of the staff were bang on. Everyone you pass has a smile and a greeting for you. We loved eating breakfast at the Cove Terrace restaurant every morning. Shontel went above and beyond to provide our family with excellent, friendly and professional service. What an asset to this hotel! She knew I needed soy milk and made sure it was there for me every day. I can't remember everyone's names so please forgive me but Omar, Julie-Anne, Denise and Paul are some of the wonderful, hardworking people who made our vacation that much more special. A big thank you to everyone on the team!My daughter discovered the Explorers Club for kids and made some great new friends. Ranae and the rest of the team made sure the kids were safe, entertained and happy. My husband and I were able to have a couple of afternoons at the beach and date nights knowing that our daughter was having a blast! Jemesha was also lovely, walking around and stopping for a chat and to answer questions. The food overall is average, the buffet could use some work and more variety. The Asian restaurant was quite good and Ted, our excellent server, made sure we had a nice evening. Seaside Grill was also nice. Didn't try the Italian. Da Mario at the Cove was probably the most disappointing, from waiting for 90 minutes for a table to our waiter not bothering to replace a tablecloth after one of the kids we were dining with spilled a glass of water over half the table, especially given that there were about 5 empty tables around us. Not fun having to go through an entire meal on a sopping wet table! The Terrace was nice for supper but really best for breakfast and lunch. Oh! And don't miss the jerk chicken stand on the beach! A big hit with everyone!I'd highly recommend this resort for families with kids. Lots for them to do from the water park, to tennis, the beach with lots of fish to look at, good snorkeling, kids club, and evening shows. We'll definitely be back next year!
We had never been to Jamaica and our first visit has been a pleasant success. We booked the smaller sunscape cove, with all the benefits of sunscape splash, which was a good move as we prefer smaller quieter hotels. Pro'sWater park for the childrenKids club - our 2 children 6 and 9 had a great timeTennis every morningThe staff - the best we have experienced in our travels of the Caribbean! They always happy and friendly and could not do enough to make our holiday go well. When the hotel ran out of bananas they went to the market for us so we could have our banana cocktails. We had a couple of issues with the water sports , they would not lend us any snorkelling gear ( which is a first for us!), and said we need to go on the free snorkelling tour ? It was also really windy and I wanted to take a hobby out, but was told it was too windy?! I am a proficient sailor and explained it would be okay.....I understand why they may have took this stance but the beach and sea are very safe. On a plus we mentioned this to the manager and she in no uncertain terms "sorted it for us" - thank you . I also went diving a coupe of times, not a huge amount of fish , but a couple of interesting caves / canyons! We met someone who saw a Ray when he was snorkelling. Overall the staff made the holiday, with no exceptions everyone was very friendly and helpful and always smiling. I can only remember then names of a few ( everyone was great) - Taj, tony in tennis, everyone in kids club, jameel
Another vacation in the books with some of our closest friends. Sunscape Cove was just the spot for our family vacation. Perfect for kids, would choose Secrets if traveling without kids! Great beach, one of the best we have seen in Jamaica. We upgraded to a ocean front room on the 1st floor which was adjoining to our friends. It worked out perfectly for beach access, nap times, and proximity to the bar! Overall great stay, would recommend for families and those looking for a budget in the mid-range level. Best part of the trip hands-down is the staff. We go back to Jamaica because the people are so friendly. Our favorite staff person and well worth the expense was Quenton our butler. Was there from sun-up to sun-down catering to our needs. Even traveled into town to get us some hard to find pretzels. Quenton's professionalism and ability to relate to his clients is what stands him apart. Lorna the hotel manager was also helpful during a interesting situation. Excellent stay, we will be back.
We stayed at the Sunscape Cove for 3 nights. When we arrived, we were greeted joyfully by the pleasant staffs and we were served with drinks of our choose. I was very impressed. The location of this Hotel is very good as it is not far from the airport and the city. The food is very good and always on time. We loved the buffet. The staffs are very friendly and ready to help at all times. loved it!
We stayed at the Sunscape Cove for 4 nights. When we arrived, we were greeted joyfully and the bar was open and ready to serve us drinks. The waiting area was clean and breezy. My husband had called the day before and asked if we could be upgraded from the Sunscape Splash to the cove because of many negative reviews I had read. They told us they had a Beach Front View room and we agreed to pay for the upgrade and thought we booked it. Upon arrival we found out that the Beach Front room was not available and we could get the Ocean View and then move the next day to the Ocean Front which was on the second floor. They adjusted our price accordingly. We also waited a couple of hours because the room was not ready, it was still being cleaned. The Internet was down and was down until the last day I believe (Cove side) The room was finally ready. The room was clean. The accommodations were OK. The room I do not believe was a 4 star, maybe 3 if that. I have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels and this does not live up to that. I am objective though, maybe for island accommodations this is a 4. This was the first time staying overnight at an island out of the country (US). I have never stayed at any other resort outside of the United States to compare. I noticed the room was hot, I thought well maybe because they had been cleaning. I noticed around the front door all the light was coming in because there is absolutely NO weather stripping around the door. As I stood there, I could feel all the hot air coming in at my feet. After a while we decided to go to the pool. Remember we had already waited 2 hours for check in. The pool was only open till 6:00 PM, I was unhappy about that. Later that night we had dinner at the Seaside Grill. The meats were very dry and nothing to write home about. After getting back to the room we noticed it was still warm and did not cool down until late in the night. The beds were hard compared to other hotel beds and the sheets were very rough. The double beds are full size so keep in mind if you are not a small couple sharing one bed you will be uncomfortable. My husband and I are average size and I felt like it was still too small of a bed. The next morning I wanted to order room service at they said it did not start until 8 but on the website it shows 7:00 AM. We went downstairs to have breakfast and it was good, American like. Later on we found a spot on the Cove side of the beach at the end by the little outside bar. The bar opened at 11:00 and then there was someone there with a BBQ grill cooking jerk chicken. It was being in your back yard and someone grilling right there by you. Being at the beach, there in that spot, was the best part of our trip. We snorkeled out to the reef and saw some fish and had a good time. When we arrived back to the room we decided to make our own weather stripping/door sweep and taped that up on the door. It helped the temperature tremendously. The rooms were cleaned every day. They brought drinks, water, and beer to your fridge with a call to room service. My son loved the room service spaghetti with meat sauce, he ordered it 3 times I think. The burgers, fries and nachos at the Barefoot grill were good for fast food. We didn’t eat at the buffet except for the one day at breakfast and had an omelet and bacon. The Terrace restaurant had good breakfast and dinner was OK for an “all inclusive”. The dinning choices are similar to cruise ship dinner options, if you are familiar with that. The hot tub was out of service the last couple of days. Staff was mostly friendly. We had a couple of incidents that made us uncomfortable. The lady that worked at the Coco Café in the evening was rude to me because I spilled a drink (small one) and then I tried to clean it up with a towel by the sink (there was a long line of people so I was trying to be nice) and she said that was the towel she wipes the tables with and made some hand gesture and was clearly irritated with me. I apologized but it didn’t matter. The second situation was after breakfast on the last day. My husband went to check us out and settle the bill, etc. An hour later or so we walked down with our luggage and had a taxi on the way. As we walked past the front desk they stopped us and told us we could not leave until we checked out, we said we did. The man was a bit aggressive and said we didn’t have a ticket. We had no idea about this, we had already checked out..? It was embarrassing. In a nutshell, my opinion, if you don’t have a lot of money to spend and have a large family this could be a good place to vacation for a first time island experience. It is family friendly on the Cove side for sure. I would have rather paid more money and stayed at another well-known resort, maybe the amenities would have been better. It is hard to say this was our first overnight island experience. If you like luxury hotels and 4-5 star accommodations in the United States then you could be disappointed at this resort. The beach itself is beautiful, I wish the rooms were nicer but then again you get what you pay for and the price was pretty cheap compared to other popular resorts in Jamaica.
