Stayed here for one night with my friend before I moved onto Secrets Wild Orchid (I had already booked this before my friend had booked sunscape). Very decent hotel and a good choice of food in the restaurant. Rooms were decent as well, would recommend if you cannot afford the more expensive sister hotel Secrets down the road.
I stayed here Jan of 2016, I didn't pick this particular place it was an apple square deal. We arrived and there was a waitlist for locks for the safe. Not only that but the elevators on the kid side did not work, I didn't plan on coming to a family resort either so this might not be the review for you. It would have been great for a family but the family side only had one restaurant option available, the buffet, for breakfast which was sub-par and the food was cold. I tried it one day to try and see if it was good, it was not. The staff was alright when they remembered your request. With no locks we asked to be upgraded to the quieter side due to the fact they had locks. The resort was just redone and there was on going construction with multiple restaurants shut down, an unfortunate time for us. The only place you could escape children was at the adults only beach. They did not have drink service anywhere close and never had a drink of the day nor did they try to make a decent cocktail. I was disappointed in general.
HOTEL is clean, and very nice, as well as minutes away from the airport. Food was excellent - buffet and the a la cartes ... however I was disappointed in the lack of fruit. I missed fresh pineapple, watermelon, grapes, strawberries etc. Service was good. Staff were all extremely friendly - with the exception of a couple of the bartenders. There were a lot of pools to choose from, and waterslides, and a hot tub - HOWEVER, all the pools were way too COLD, yes, even the hottub. This is the first destination hotel that I did not spend a lot of time in the pool. The beach was nice and clean, however small, and lots of weeds. My biggest disappointment was in the bar drinks - NO MOJITOS, NO margaritas, and all drinks with the exception of single shots were WATERED down, or at least tasted as such and absolutely could not enjoy or as one of our friends commented - could drink all day and not even feel it. I was also upset at the lack of bottled water. Some of us have extremely sensitive stomachs, and need bottled water --- we pretty much had to BEG for it. They seemed a bit better towards the end of the week. Considering I could not drink the bar drinks, I felt that I should be allowed as much bottled water as I needed. So overall, this place gets a 3 star maybe a 3 and a half. It is nice, and the staff is awesome and friendly.
Sunscape Splash has a very inviting ,nice open air lobby upon arrival which makes for a great impression . This was our family vacation for myself, husband and my 11 year old daughter . We mainly chose this resort because of the waterpark ,close to the airport, and also because it's very reasonable for a budget vacation . The entertainment during the day was kind of dull to us but I mainly beach it anyway. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the Waterpark and I did as well racing her down the water slides .Our room had a great view on the top floor in which we could see the cruise boats docked to the left side of the balcony and the beautiful water and mountain views to our right . The beds were a bit hard to sleep to our liking but not terrible . They just have instant coffee packs and powdered coffee creamer packs in your room which I couldn't enjoy my love of morning coffee out on my balcony, along with no spoons to stir the cream and sugar the entire week in our room so I just waited until we ate breakfast .That was just minor . The breakfast area has a beautiful view of the water. Plenty of seating which was great and very attentive wait staff. The bartenders seemed to be the least friendliest in our opinion . I suggest anyone to bring along your own Insulated cups which I'm glad we did , otherwise you'll be making several trips to the bar with their small cups. The Asian restaurant was our favorite hands down . We ate there 3 out of 7 nights and probably would have every night had we eaten there first . The jerk chicken and Jamaican parties were really good also there . The entertainment at night was just alright. I will tell you if you take any excursions you might as well count on it being an all day adventure getting back literally .We were very unhappy about that because this hotel is the first pick up and that means the very last drop off to get back so you can imagine how many stops and time that takes . Honestly we would have paid a private driver had we known that ! You can make a deal with a cab driver and get an upfront cost to take you and that includes them waiting on you to finish . We paid a very nice man Johnny the next day to drive us around to the local markets and Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville and was very prompt picking us back up . We took an excursion to Dunns River Falls which my husband and I have been before but wanted to share the experience with our daughter and we enjoyed just as much the second time. The beach in Montego Bay is rocky and the water has a lot of sea grass in it so I'd def wear water shoes. The landscaping is a bit lacking as compared to the resorts we've been to but could tell they were working on it. All in all my daughter and I enjoyed it for the most part ,but my husband was not impressed with it and I'm usually the one harder to please. The elevators are very slow and they only had two working .The spa prices were too pricey also . Actually the highest I have seen and we've been to several luxury resorts so I didn't even get one .We love Jamaica so much and have been to Ocho Rios and Negril and def will spend the money to go back to either of those two beaches . All in all we prefer a more luxurious resort and better amenities but this place isn't horrible, just average and also a great price for a family with a budget.
We stayed at the Sunscape Splash resort in Montego Bay for March break. We have been to other resorts during March break and found resorts had trouble keeping up with being at capacity - this wasn't the case at this resort. Although it was busy, we always felt well taken care of - towels available, enough pools to enjoy, food was always replenished. We were very impressed with the employees at this resort. We found the service to be exceptional, these people really stood out for us: Shelly (at Barefoot grill), Kedar (Front Desk), Kevon (Bell attendant), Sandra (janitorial staff - ladies room near Barefoot grill), Entertainment crew at the activities pool was exceptional and the Lifeguards at the slides! Other reviews were quite critical of the beach and food - we always found something for every family member to eat, including my very fussy 7 year old. Beach was long and beautiful, yes there was seaweed in certain areas, but others were fine. Recommendations: (1) courtesy room where people with late day flights can use to shower off and get into dry clothes. (2) Allow kids to eat INSIDE at the a la carte restaurant (Portofino). We found it strange that a family resort didn't allow families with children to eat inside the restaurant.Overall we had a wonderful experience, great value for our money, we definitely recommend this resort and will definitely return.
