The staff were very friendly and professional and went go out of their way to make our stay a good one.The size of the resort was just right as it offered a more intimate environment compared to some of the larger resorts. Sun Scape is a great venue for Weddings, staff endeavour to meet all your needs. When it come to the food from day one I wondered what country I was in, as the food did not represent Jamaica. The food was poor and glass and plastic was found in the food.Sun scape Splash could learn a few things from other resorts in Jamaica
Last week my boyfriend and I went to Jamaica with his family and had a wonderful time at the Sunscape Splash! The staff were EXCELLENT! Thank you to the entertainment team (Jerome, Marsha, etc) for keeping the week so lively and entertainment. Thank you to Rosemarie in the SPA for the most wonderful pedicure and aromatherapy massage. It was the perfect way to relax on this vacation. Thank you to the bartenders Adrian, Norval and Orlando for taking care of our drink needs all week. Your smiles and laughter were constant and added to the week in such a positive way. The food was great, and changed daily. Thanks also to Steven in the Cafe for working so hard all week! Your lattes, snacks and laughter was much appreciated !! My favourite restaurant was Portofino (Italian). The steak was amazing and Carl provided us with excellent service !! Suggestion: This is a very family friendly resort. The rooms are good enough but could use a bit of Updating. This resort has all the things you need in Jamaica.
Nicholai from the bar was so friendly along with Kenneth! They were always so accommodating. They made sure we were having a good time, and made us delicious drinks all day! Meeting them was a pleasure, and the trip was definitely worth more, being able to interact with great staff like them! We are so happy with our trip here at Sunscape splash, and are already thinking about when to return!!
One of the best and most helpful reviews I read on this resorts was one of the longest. I'll try to keep this as brief as possible but i do want to give a fair and honest review of this resort because it really is a puzzling place if you go expecting one thing and getting another. Therefore, this review focuses on two specific holiday seekers: Family VS Couples looking for rest.First of all, Cheapcaribbean.com. We got placed in this resort after entering into the Deal Of Fortune. Four resorts all with a 4 SUN rating. This is important to note because it does NOT mean they are all 4 STARS in rating. CC has their own filter/guidelines for their sun rating. Also, while there are four resorts you may get to go to, in reality, I felt there really was only one main one they were shuffling people towards. Sunscape Splash. The other three were the ones we really hoped we would get placed in because (as the Hunger Games would say) "may the odds be ever in your favour." They weren't. Before I continue I need to put some disclaimers here so you know my bias:1) We are a couple with no children.2) This is the second time coming to Jamaica. The first time was to Couples San Soucci with is an adults only 5 STAR resort. Therefore that was the only experience we had to compare. While this might seem unfair please read on...its not as unfair as it might appear. The other three hotels looked amazing and while they were family friendly they didn't scream "FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY" like Sunscape did. Obviously, we got the Splash. Would I ever do the Deal Of Fortune again...absolutely NOT! The little we saved was not worth it FOR US. And i'll also explain that at the end.ROOM: When we got to the resort it was late at night and we got our room. Because we were noted to be Deal Of Fortune people we certainly got a room that screamed "trying to save money." It was classified as a "view of the resort" room when in fact it was look out your window to metal roofs while listening constantly to industrial HVAC units. Not what we desire when spending over $3000 CAD for a week away. Our room was VERY clean and the shower was the best I have ever had...the pressure was amazing!!!! However, there was a leak under the tub. When we went down to see about moving to a higher room Sanji at the front desk was incredible! She ended up finding us a room on the eighth floor overlooking at bay. The view was amazing. The room was bigger and better. The fridge was stocked incredibly well. All in all...to say the room was an improvement would be a huge understatement. This change was important to us because the next day when we went down to eat it was clear this was a resort for FAMILIES. People everywhere. Loudness everywhere. Energy everywhere. And we hoped for some small place to go to in order to recharge from working with people in our everyday lives. Sanji was incredible and we are grateful for her incredible service. NOTE: for a couple of days one of the elevators was broken but they fixed it quickly and it really wasn't bad at all. Admittedly, the beds ARE hard but we never disturbed each other when rolling over and in some weird way still managed to have ok sleeps...but yes, they are very firm.FOOD: So they say they have one buffet, one grill, and three a la cartes. If it rains (which it did for three days when we were there) there is only two a la cartes. This may seem really sad...and it was but nothing compared to the service IN the a la carte restaurants. It was horrible. And truthfully, the food was "meh" at best. The best food we had (and I do mean it was GOOOD food) was the jerk chicken from the grill (only open at noon), and the rest was from the buffet. The jerk pork, stewed pork, sweet and sour chicken, chocolate cake, mocha cake...are to die for....AND the service and staff in the buffet area are WAY better at service! Best food servers there are in the buffet/cafeteria BY FAR! Best kept secret in this resort is the coffee shop. The Mocha Espresso and the Cafe Lattes are amazing there!!!! The frozen yogurt is fantastic! The only downside is they usually only have one person working at a time and the line up wait can be a few because they handmade their espressos etc...but the wait is worth it. The restaurants...aren't worth the time. The buffet (though loud) and coffee shop (air conditioned)...very enjoyable. So...the dress code...yeeeeeahhhhh. Despite their websites regarding their a la carte restaurants two things became very clear very fast. They do NOT hold to dress code AT ALL. And, secondly, the ONE restaurant they say the inside is for adults only is not that at all...children are welcome wherever families want to go.BEACH: This was really where we found our "happy place" as a couple. There are a number of places broken up but we only went to the beach area in front of Sunscape Cove. We found it was fairly easy to find chairs with shade and they had both reclining ones and others that laid perfectly flat. The beach was a bit rocky in places but on the whole if you are looking for sand, sun, and waves lapping the shore, this was just perfect. We did move down the beach further because of the entertainment they did and they had the speakers blasting. A pleasant surprise was that they actually had people who would come down the beach to see if you wanted a drink. AND they remembered your drink, who ordered it and where you sat. Beautiful. The only somewhat annoying part was how the Spa people continually came by asking if you wanted anything from the Spa services. I can appreciate them wanting to get work but after the 6th person in one day it can get a bit much.DRINKS: It is true they don't use premium alcohol save Appleton Rum. It is also true their drink range in size from adult glasses to kiddy glasses (all plastic). But they do NOT cheap out on the alcohol amounts. One of the best mudslides I have had was at this resort. They have a great variety for non alcoholic drinks as well most likely due to the family atmosphere and children. All week I can honestly say I never saw one person drunk. Not one. It was another pleasant surprise that is unpredictable, I know, but it was good.POOLS: We never used them but they were always neat and tidy. RESORT: One person noted that this resort seemed "tired". That in the past it was most likely a top tier resort. This was evident however, they were making improvements while we were there. STAFF: Fantastic. Aside from the extremely poor service in the restaurants (possibly just bad training or bad restaurant strategies) the staff was stellar. Our very last night there the couple beside us had a meltdown that lasted a LONG time. Screaming, doors slamming, my wife worried the woman was going to get put over the balcony it was so dramatic! At 12:30 AM I went down to the front desk to see if someone could go up to make sure this couple was not going to kill each other and security was already at the desk starting to go up. Apparently, the room on the other side had just called down and their response was immediate. While riding the elevator back up they apologized for the disturbance (even though it obviously wasn't their fault) and explained they would give them one opportunity only to quiet down or they would be removed from the facility. Now, this might not seem much of a threat but imagine being in Jamaica at 12:30am and kicked out of a resort?! Needless to say, it was effective and we didn't note any yellow police tape the next day. ;) The washrooms throughout the resort were ALWAYS clean...honestly, I cannot say enough about the staff. The grumpiest staff were most likely the bar keepers (irony). The Zumba girl is the best!!!!!!WHO is this resort for? Families with kids. This place would be amazing for families. The waterslides are so great, there is a tubing lazy river, the kids club looks extremely well done. Honestly, for a family, I am not sure you could do better than this resort for fun, Fun, FUN! I would totally skip the restaurants as just do the buffet as a family.Who is it NOT for? Couples looking for any sort of class or romance or really good food (foodies). Those words I would NEVER associate with this place...ever. My advice having already been to Couples? Go for one less day and spend a tiny bit more money and you will be BLOWN AWAY by the difference! It is a whole universe of an experience away from this one. Your drinks will be in glasses, the food will be incredible, your rooms are like a dream come true, premium alcohol everywhere including your room (if you are into that sort of thing), room service to eat out on your balcony, honestly...you will feel like you are in a movie the experience is so good at Couples. By the way, we also booked our Couples resort through CheapCaribbean.com :)So, would I ever go back here? If I came with friends and family who had small children I might...As a couple? No way...lesson learned. I will stick to being a foodie looking for a quiet place to recharge with romance and class. Either way...book through CheapCaribbean to get the best deals. If you are family? Check out this resort and say "hi" to Sanji when you go :)
Nicholas was a very friendly guy, he was courteous and was always there when we needed him. He mixed our family amazing drinks, brought us lunch and even towels. We really appreciated everything he did for us while we were in Jamaica! We will for sure be back to Jamaica to visit Nicholas and the beautiful resort!
