- What's Included
My fellow Jamaicans and travellers, i wanted to share a few things. This is the first time im posting a review.I book this place, based on the past reviews and internet pictures. Well, it's not so.I arrived and checked in, was given a room close to the road, loud noises, old, mosquitos in the room, no fridge, old toilets and tub, much like a road side motel.I did not like it, so I went to the front desk and ask for another room, and a fridge.Well I was offered another room, much nicer, yet old and dated, so I agreed. Then the price went up 20 US.The fridge is 10 US per day, a little old one, that leaks.I asked why , then the whole day went sour, and the rest of the stay. The front desk, one person, insisted that is the price for such a room at a resort and that tgey also charge 20 percent tax and service charge and resort fee. So by now, they had me, so I said ok, but asked for a manager,or owner. That never happened, never got a call or seen anyone, except staff.I asked what the tax rate is, she said 16.5 percent, so I said, why 20, she said is so it goes in a resort.Well tobys is far from a resort, not even a bottle of water is provided, the food and drinks expensive, mush more than NYC.This was a big scam.On Saturday night 7pm, the front desk called, to say, close the windoes, turn off A.C., that they will be fogging, for mosquitos. 2 minutes later, they started, and the chemicals stunk, and the entire room was engulfed in fumes.I notified the CD, and asked why no notice.she said they told her at 3pm, and now they come. Pure foolishness. Why couldn't they notify the guests at 3pm, so perhaps, we could have gone off site. The smell was irritating, so I told her, and she sent a fan.The problem is that the back door, has large creases, where flies etc come in, i pointed tgat out a d tgey said the owner will call me, he never did.Glad I wasn't poisoned, i did leave the premise for a few hrs. They did not offer an apology. Everytime I inquired about anything, they didn't know, or they just follow instructions .They would not even call a local taxi, tgey had no phone book. They only refer you to JUTA service, tgat is about 5 times the normal fare to go anywhere. The people basically do what they are told and no more, no customer/guest service practices. The streets are filthy, homeless people sleeping on the side walks, men urinating in public, as visitors walk by.People smoking dope all over the place, disgusting.Poor reflection of what should be tourism. Not even close to Value for money, compared to other destinations.I hope all the taxes and fees go to the government, it can help make a big difference.Let the minister of tourism know how poor the place is.Go see for yourself.I can go on and in, about the disappointment in this place a d people , as a Jamaican. I will never stay there again.
The price is right if you're just in need of a single overnight stay between flights or the next leg of your journey. It's clean, but dated. Amazingly, the food in the restaurant is quite good ... we ate dinner there. It is 5 minutes to the Montego Bay airport ..... so ask a few cabbies what the rate is before you select one (as newbies we paid $15 the first time, and $2 the second time!!) Do not use the "official" taxi booth at the airport - they rip you off.
We had not booked a hotel in advance but luckily they had an available room here. The room was great, free WiFi, nice pool and friendly staff. The restaurant had great food both for breakfast and dinner.
Stayed at this small hotel for short periods on three occasions and loved it. The staff is welcoming and accommodating. On one occasion last year, while staying there, there was a threatening storm and it was reassuring how they went into prep mode. The owner was on the premises directing and getting everything in gear. I usually eat from the local menu and I find the food very tasty. The price per night is very reasonable and I am planning to stay there again when I return in 3 months. I recommend this hotel for short relaxing stays.
Perfectly suitable for a one night stay before traveling!! We stayed here for the sole purpose of Glistening Waters Luminous Lagoon Tour and it was perfect! The hotel room was nice & clean, WIFI was good and all hotel staff, especially Eve, went ABOVE AND BEYOND to help! Although we had multiple lock/door issues that resulted in a room change at 11 PM, it did not affect the experience provided by Toby Resort!
