This is a nice place to stay. Nice clean comfortable rooms, good food in the restaurant, and friendly helpful staff. You can hang out by the pool, or since Toby's is at the end of the Hip Strip, you can walk down to Doctor's Cave Beach, or do some shopping at the shops along the Hip Strip.
Only stayed here one night after our arrival, but everything was great. Welcoming and helpful staff, swift check-in, on-site parking. Excellent spacious room, very clean and well equipped. Easy walk to various bars and dining options in town.
Well for starters, I came here because I was at a resort and my flight was cancelled until the next day. I figured, why pay $600 for an additional night at Sandals, so I paid $97 for this yucky place. When I first entered my room, there was a used condom in the corner. We called the front desk, they sent someone up to clean it. Then they called back apologizing and offered us free breakfast. My husband and I refused to eat there. The room is tiny and just has an icky feel to it. It was "clean" but not clean. The bed linens were freshly washed. (I sniffed them) I inspected the mattress for bugs, none were found. The balcony has LOTS of flying ants. We cant smoke in our room, and will get attacked by bugs on the balcony. We were forced to go outside of our room around all the shady characters at this motel. Resort is the wrong word to use when describing this place. The pic of the motels pool is fake. It looks nothing like this. The water was murky looking. The staff was nice.I would never, ever, under any circumstance stay at this rat hole again.
There is a lot to like about Toby's Resort. The reasonable price booked via Expedia, the safe and secluded resort feel, the pretty grounds with sun and shade, beautiful foliage, two pretty pools, a hot tub, tennis court, pool bar, pretty artwork, three different Wi-Fi networks to use in various parts of the property, the courteous and helpful staff and the convenient location with an easy 15 minute walk to Doctors Cave Beach and Margaritaville on the Hip Strip were all positives. We also appreciated the nice comfortable restaurant on property, with leisurely service and a nice selection of good but not great food, with local specialties like goat and jerk chicken, running us $29 for dinner and $19 for breakfast for two. Our room #70, up the stairs on the second floor of a building at the back of the property, was large, with a balcony, a small refrigerator, plentiful hot water, a decent shower and a large counter in the bathroom. However, there was only one mirror, which was in the bathroom. And, since it is a tropical resort, we could hear noisy birds and barking dogs, the booming voice of the guest downstairs (the desk personnel were helpful with enforcing Quiet Time after 10 PM) and nearby construction starting at 8 AM. We had originally scheduled an airport pick up with Paul, via chat with the hotel via Expedia, but when he did not show up at the Groovy Grouper as scheduled, a guy at the airport helped us out by calling Toby‘s for us and found that Paul was busy, so we took a taxi to the resort for $15 plus tip for the two of us. The next day, Paul was available and very helpful with arranging a shuttle ride to the cruise ship terminal for $15 plus tip for the two of us.All in all, I would stay at Toby’s again!
We were a group of 12, we stayed 2 nights at Toby's, It was a nice experience. The rooms were clean, the bed comfortable, the bathroom modern. The staff at the front desk are always friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and tasty; the oxtail and curry goat was the best in Jamaica. The staff in the dinning room was very nice: Venecia, Jovan, Chaquille, and Maureen. It is walking distance to Dr. Cave's Beach and few minutes from the airport. When owner Shane Chin knew I wanted to have ackee and salt fish for breakfast; he went out of his way to call around to get them for me for breakfast the next day! That was really appreciated. Wifi was reliable.
