Amazing Jamaica

This hotel is large but it gives you the intimate experience that each guest is valued as an individual. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The facilities are excellent with varied restaurants all serving excellent food. There are many pools but we didn’t need to use them. The sea was more inviting to us. This was the classic Caribbean experience.

Well worth a visit

Our room was quiet, very spacious and had a nice view overlooking the beach. However, the decor of the room needed refurbishment. The position of the hotel is great and you're only a small walk from your room to the beach. Staff are very friendly and go out of their way to please. Wide choice of good quality food, however, the food wasn't hot enough. Therefore, this is the reason I gave the hotel 4 stars.

No Worries

The Resort was beautiful and staff was polite and eager to please. We enjoyed the friendly atomosphere on the beach in the restaurants or at the bars. We would have liked to see more entertainment choices especially between the evening hours between 6 and 9. Definitely appreciated having security overseeing the guests and the grounds. They were a noticeable prescents and made us feel safe knowing they were there.

Great but does need some improvements!

We stayed at this Sensatori Resort on 3rd September 2017 for two weeks travelling with Thomson from the UK. I feel this is a very honest and fair review of this hotel and also Thomson so I hope this helps people who are considering booking. When we first arrived at the hotel as part of our upgrade we got a separate Check in area, when actually you get checked in on the coach. Which is fair enough and makes it quicker however we had paid for an extra service and check in experience. When we got to the hotel we were left for around 45 minutes stood around wondering what was happening and everyone else on our coach had a staff member with a card with their room block and disappeared off to their rooms. We then went to the Main Reception to ask what was going on and it was quite obvious we had completely been forgotten about and a staff member then took us to our room when we asked. (83006)We upgraded to the new area of hotel which is around 4 months old and is the Premium Section. I would recommend staying in Block 8 as this is right next to the beach and you get a lovely view out of the sea on the right hand side of your balcony. Premium rooms are very nice and modern and we also had Sparkling Wine & Fruit on arrival. You also do go to your concierge to choose from a Pillow and Aromatherapy Menu which we have never had at another hotel. Included in the upgrade you got Turn Down Service but if I am completely honest the maid did turn up far too early for us as we tend to dine at 8 – 8.30pm so we did turn her away a lot of the time as we felt it unfair her having to come back just for our room. One thing I will say is that our room was cleaned and was SPOTLESS every single day so thank you to Anne Marie for that! You were great!Another part of the Premium upgrade was that we have a specific area on the beach (Blue Umbrellas) which receives Butler Service for drinks everyday between 9am – 5pm. I can honestly say we were asked if we would like a drink on 4 separate occasions (not days) during our 14-night holiday. Now we did mention this to Thomson and complained which was resolved but I feel it is still best that people are made aware. The beach at this Hotel is incredible! We have travelled to many Caribbean destinations and this is the best beach by far. In your room there is a mini bar full and stocked every day with fizzy drinks, still and sparkling water and also beer. You also do have room service 24 hours which is free but I would recommend a little tip for the room service team. The food on the room service menu is of a good standard and quite a large variety. Now on to restaurants…Di Romagna Italian Restaurant – This restaurant is fantastic, the food is great and also the service. Travic and Diandra (Sorry if I have misspelt) This was one of our favourite restaurants and you did feel like you were at an independent restaurant.Hua Hin Thai Restaurant – Also Fantastic, and one of our favourites. Janet who took care of us on the many nights we dined here was amazing! I would recommend the spring rolls for starter and striploin beef for main.Garfield Restaurant (On the beach) – Great restaurant to look at, food however was extremely standard therefore we dined once here then didn’t bother again. Mahogany Restaurant (Buffet) – This is the best place for breakfast we preferred this to the other buffet restaurant (Palms). The food here was great on Caribbean night, curried lamb is to die for! However, we went to this restaurant on another night and the selection wasn’t great we ended up walking out and trying another restaurant instead. Palms Restaurant (Other buffet) – Average, didn’t really dine he very often, to be completely honest I do think this could do with looking at as we didn’t feel it was of standard for a Sensatori Resort. Oceans Gourmet Corner – This place is at the Main pool on the Amber Deck they serve Jerk Chicken, Jerk Burgers, Patties and Onion Rings for Lunch. This was by far our favourite place!! The patties are incredible and you will be addicted. Beans Coffee Shop – Great for coffee, smoothies and ice cream!West End gourmet corner and terrace – We went here once for Lunch they serve panni’s etc. We only went once as it wasn’t a patch on Oceans Gourmet Corner.One thing is will mention is the dress code. Now this is something that I was not happy about, like other resorts we have stayed at I completely understand there is a dress code for restaurants. We didn’t have a problem with this until the last day of our holiday. We went to the Palms restaurant and my partner was wearing a vest as we had just come from the beach, I’d like to add he had worn a vest to lunch for the other 13 days of our holiday and there was never a problem. The staff member doing meet and greet was so rude to my partner and refused to let him in. However, females are able to sit in for lunch in sheer kaftans where you can see straight through. After being annoyed about this I then noticed at evening meal people were being let into the Italian Restaurant with WET HAIR, surely not??? I do really think the dress code needs to be evaluated as I personally don’t think fresh out of the shower should really be on, especially when a lot of other people do make the effort on evenings. The entertainment was really good at this hotel and was a lot better than previous places we have been to. The singers are very great and its usually set up on the amber deck next to the bar which is lovely. The range of drinks on all-inclusive is great, good selection of cocktails and branded spirits and beer. There is a spa at this Sensatori Resort but I will warn you it is ridiculously overpriced! We were at the beach and one of the Spa Staff Members was promoting an offer, for a couples 50-minute massage $300! I nearly fell off my sun lounger. My partner also went to get a haircut (he has extremely short hair) and they tried to charge him $45 when the day before the receptionist said they would just charge him for a child’s haircut ($21) for I’d say no more than 10 minutes’ work. Trips I would recommend doing:YS Falls and Safari on the Black River. We had a great day out doing this but I will mention on the way on the coach our driver clipped a truck which obviously gave us a heart attack! This did result in us having to sit outside the police station after a busy day for nearly an hour. But I think this was just abit of bad luck and the actual trip was fantastic! One Love Bus Tour. This is one of the best trips we have ever experienced, it is a free trip to go on, Lembert will pick you up in his bus and take you to 7 local bars in Negril, we had such a great time and would highly recommend! Ricks café is also great but I would recommend getting your own taxi and not the shuttle bus, it’s not much more expensive and then you don’t have any times you have to stick to etc. We also did book a trip via Thomson, which was a catamaran trip to half moon bay, where you can snorkel and also get lunch. We booked this for the last day before returning home, we turned up to find we were actually going on a fishing boat, because the catamaran boat was broken. We refused and were offered a full refund which is fine, but still not the point that we wasted our morning. Now I know this is nothing to do with the hotel but I would just like to warn people who are thinking of booking through Thomson. Yes, our issues were resolved but I feel with the amount of money we paid for this holiday they shouldn’t have happened in the first place. All in all, we did think this hotel was great but we do feel a lot of improvement needs to happen on a couple of the restaurants. And little factors do knock this hotel down a little.
