Stayed at the hotel over the new year the food was poor not a great deal of choice the entertainment was non existent in the day time and ok at night. When we asked members of staff to wipe tables in the bar area at night because they were dirty we was past a cloth to do it ourselves or room was never cleaned before 4pm on one occasion we asked the maid when our room would be ready she stated when I get to it. The sun loungers was uncomfortable we asked for a topper and the beach guy told us they was only 15% of beds had them and get up at 7am and we may be lucky to get a topper on our bed. Would not return to this hotel.
First of all I would like to say the restaurant, bar and kitchen staff were all very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for reception staff who proved to be most unhelpful. They were unable to assist with the simplest enquirie. Having been asked to return time and time again for an answer to my enquirie I gave up. Most frustrating. Location was fab. Room was good and the entertainment was excellent. However we were very dissapointed with the food. Almost every dish was full of salt, presentation just didn't have that wow factor. As a vegetarian I found it very difficult to find anything meat hadn't been added to, dinner became boreing with the limited selection of food available. I did complain and was assured this would be addressed but I'm still waiting. One of our rooms was a swim up which looked lovely but there was an overpowering damp smell in the room. One thing we were very surprised about was on Christmas Day the painters were at work painting in public areas. Not what you want to see on Christmas Day and why on earth were these men having to work Christmas Day? Not necessary at all. They should have been home with their families.
We definitely enjoyed our vacation was well spent the food was great in the palms and ackee restaurants, they could have added more variety of food but it was ok.The bar was good nice bartenders with awesome personalities drinks were well mixed etc.the service was good overall staffs are sooo friendly and nice .Our room was well cleaned didn't had any problems checking in or anything . Enjoyed the entertainment in the night, i like the fact that they have entertainment every single night on the amber deck and not just 1 or 2 nights only Day Entertainment, it was amazing doing Aqua Aerobics everyday at 12pm with jerome . one of the best instructors I've met really a nice person has a great personality too, he made my day when while we were doing aerobics in the icy cold water at the activity pool, i don't know what happened but he fell in the pool and his reaction to the coldness of the water had us cracking up really a jovial person keep up the good job jerome..we also went to the hat making class that was really great Really a beautiful resort will be coming back next year
I want to start off by getting the negatives of this holiday out the way, certain parts of the hotel just are not Five Star. We originally got places in Block 6 on the hotel, specifically room 61002. The room was described to us as a ocean view room with a lounge and bedroom with a balcony or terrace, first of all, the supposed ocean view was actually a staircase view and the balcony/terrace was public and consisted of plastic seats and tables. Second of all, we asked for the lounge/bedroom due to it being something that my mother and I like as they are two separate rooms from each other and sometimes we like to be on our own, however the lounge was almost impossible to sit in due to the stinking smell of damp in the room. The couch was really low down and uncomfortable and to be honest the bedroom wasn’t much better, the air conditioning in the room sounded like a truck and the Queen sized bed was small but acceptable. The bathroom was tiny! Something unacceptable was the fact that soon after us leaving 61002 they started completely revamping the room! I decided to take some pictures however the app is not letting me to show some so I’ll post one below. After a week of complaining every single day to be moved out, we finally got moved on the Monday to the premium area of the hotel, block 9, room 93006. That’s where the holiday really picked up and it was unfortunate that it was with only 6 days left. The room was spacious and there were no complaints to have been had, the maids done a great job with the turn down services etc, which is exactly what you would expect from a 5* hotel however it was not happening in block 6. We were given a private balcony which was again nice and spacious, the only turn down being that when we arrived in the room the seats were soaking with water! Moving along from the rooms, the spa is very good, the massages were amazing according to my Mother and I can personally say that the sauna and steam room along with the private jacuzzi area is great also. However, there was one incident in the spa in where I asked to use the facilities and a member of staff gave we a really bad stare and made me feel uncomfortable of asking to use it again. But on the most part the staff in the spa are really nice and friendly. Finally, food wise, it is an extreme hit or miss. The Palms restaurant is absolutely awful for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Mahogany for breakfast is pretty decent, The Garfields is not the best but on the standard of many of the other foods available it is decent. The Italian restaurant can be good if you pick the right meal, same goes with the Asian restaurant, however it has to be said that the portion sizes are tiny in the Asian with many guests telling me how they actually ordered three main courses because of how small they were! Room service has some decent options with the premium menu having some good choices.I would go back and give it another go but it would 100% have to be on the premium area as our experience of Block 6 was awful. The Staff were brilliant for the most part with you struggling to go past any of them without them greeting you. If we had two weeks in the premium area this would have been a 4/5 star review with the food being a bit of a let down.Special shoutout goes to the bartender Vidal! Great guy.
Just finished our 2 week vacation here for our friends wedding. Overall we had an excellent time - big shout out to Stanley's water sports who me and my fiancé did our Padi open water certification with, Triston, Nick, Leeroy - you guys really made our vacation and we're now really hooked on scuba:)The Spa here is also fantastic and probably one of the best I've ever been to, the whole journey of the treatments is incredibly well thought out and all our visits were great relaxing experiences. The food overall was really good, Ackee, the Italian and the Asian were really nice and one evening we also did the lobster and champagne (it's an extra but well worth it). Garfield has a pretty weird menu currently.. we heard they're turning it into a fish restaurant which would be a really good idea. The beach is nice, good soft sand, nice swimming - you can't really snorkel from the beach though as the reef is quite far out, for that you need to go on the snorkel boat from Stanley's. Getting a beach lounger is a bit competitive, if you go down to get one at 8-8:30 you're already going to be too late. To get the good beds you need to bag them by 7:30 at the latest (not so bad because the coffee shop is open by then so it ended up being a little morning routine for us, and the lovely Roxanne always remembered our coffee order)The down side for us was the premium section we were staying in, there are a lot of flaws with this. The beach butler service became something of a joke among our group because in 2 weeks we barely saw any and they all seemed to disappear after midday - annoying because this was sold to us as a benefit of that section and it really didn't live up to its promise. We'd booked through Thompson who had originally sold it to us as "sea view" we then got an update from them a few months before the trip saying the premium section was now complete but they were having to change the description to "partial sea view" - basically the premium buildings are facing each other inwards with a slight angle towards the ocean. The first room we got was near the back of block 12 and all we could hear was the road which was about 20ft away and our view was of the opposite building. The acoustics were awful and you could hear everything from the hallway too. They managed to move us to building 10, 3rd room from the front after 4 days and the new room was waaay better - lovely view of the sea, no traffic noise (buildings 10&11 are set closer to the beach because they are attached to the premium reception building which puts distance between the rooms and the road.)Apparently the Thompson buildings are 8&9 which are by far the worst - some friends of ours were given one but then changed and said they are much smaller than the other premium rooms and the buildings are angles so they really do just look at each other and not the sea.The rooms in the premium section are really lovely inside, big comfortable beds too but the balconies are a let down as there is just zero privacy - you can see your neighbors and everyone in the building opposite, it also means that if anyone is smoking in your building and also quite incredibly the building opposite, it will waft into your room. There also hasn't been any thought as to having an adult only building or non-smoking section in the premium area - we ended up with a family with a kid that screamed at all hours on one side of us and a super obnoxious couple on the other side who chain smoked and blasted music.Overall nice resort and we had a great time but lack of genuinely good rooms and your chances of getting one unless you aren't a member of their prestige program is just too much of a gamble for us to return.
