Beachcomber Club & Spa
- What's Included
Negril is a special place and you cannot beat 7 Mile beach. And the beach is why I vacation in Negril. That said, the Beachcomber isn't the worst place to stay but you must be prepared for it. Honestly, I think because of its location, the amazing staff that have worked there for many years, and the intimate size of the place, it really is a gem in disguise. It could be a top resort with some TLC.Absolutely loved the size of the property. The staff know you by name and it feels good. Forget extra clothing, you'll live in your bathing suits, shorts and t-shirts. Shoes are hardly needed. All rooms are steps from the beach. Yes, there are a lot of vendors on the beach but a few polite no thank you's and your are left alone for the most part. Lots of weed. Really there was so much of it I was sick of the smell by the end of the week. It's all out in the open. I'd really consider if I'd bring younger children here. It was constant entertainment watching the day trippers arrive at Margaritaville each day. Like kids in a candy store.About the hotel. There are some issues the management really must address. The rooms are adequate. Clean as they can be and comfortable but outdated. The washrooms are in desperate need of renovation. Cracked tiles, dirty grout. Toilets need several flushes at times, hot/cold water fluctuations. Door to adjoining suite paper thin. Security on patio door very poor. Three star rating for sure.We travelled on the almost inclusive package. The food was fine although not plentiful. It seemed there was never quite enough. Some guests may have over indulged causing a dishes to run out. The kitchen would prepare top ups but it felt like you had to wait for it to come out of the kitchen. You never knew if more was coming or not so some mealtimes were odd. A few times I found myself with another guest both reaching for the last of something. Ended up splitting what was left or telling them to take it and go try to find something else to fill up on. Not a comfortable experience. The coffee percolator machine needs to be replaced. Not only is it excruciatingly slow, the staff would have to poor the coffee back thru it several times to brew something that resembled a cup of coffee. Really missed enjoying that delicious Jamaican coffee I've had in the past. At breakfast, there's an omelette station. Delicious but if you're not first in line, you spend the breakfast hour in line. There's only one small frying pan on the go. We tried to get another but the burner wasn't working. Just get it fixed. Really a simple solution that would go along way.We discovered the awkward way that not all drinks were included in the package. Side note Sunwing had been contacted prior to define "almost all inclusive" for us. It was explained no extras like entertainment and water sports, but drinks and 3 meals included. I've heard of resorts surcharging for top shelf liquor but never anything like this. We'd ordered mudslides and while the bartender was making them we were told they were an extra charge. Not cool. Turns out most of the drinks that are listed above the bar area are extra. And not a surcharge but a full price charge. I sure didn't see any top shelf liquor being used for these drinks so don't get why. However, to make it worse, as the week went on I had a conversation with another guest who'd ordered one of these drinks listed above the bar and they weren't charged anything. Never did figure that one out. While we were there was a weird virus that swept thru the hotel. At least 9 people became very sick for about 24 hours. Some felt it was unsafe water from the dispenser at the bar area or perhaps some food issue. A staff member came to my room saying they'd learned I was sick saying a doctor was being brought in at their expense to find out what was wrong. Turned out they brought in a nurse who advised a trip to a doctor. Two bottles of water were provided and from then on I bought bottled water from the store. The staff were so good at bringing soup and bread to my room, I can't thank them enough for their concern. We will never know what the cause of the illness was but I've never been sick in Jamaica before. So would I return again? Not sure, the location is fantastic. Great section of the beach. I'd consider booking a kitchen unit and explore other venues for meals perhaps. But as that changes the type of vacation, so I think I'd explore other properties first.
I am on here about to book my next vacation at Beachcomber and I am surprised to see a couple of angry reviews here. The truth is, you simply can't please every one. I have vacationed at Beachcomber Resort twice and I will be staying there any time that I am in Jamaica. The staff are absolutely phenomenal. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. The location of this resort is literally the VERY best spot on the seven mile beach. You aren't stuffed like sardines along the beach during the day like all the other resorts, which I particularly loved seeing because I was there to relax. As I walked the beach daily I couldn't help but feel smug as I watched other vacationers afraid to leave their lounge chair for even a second. People seemed to be standing around on other parts of the seven mile beach waiting to be able to grab themselves a lounge chair. At Beachcomber the management keeps their slice of Heaven clean and they are always sure to keep their beachfront reserved for their paying guests. In fact, a little insider tip(pun intended) if you 'take care' of the beach guy/security he will keep your seat ready for you each morning, same spot. The food is absolutely delicious and they keep the buffet full until all the guest are satisfied. The bar is located almost directly on the beach..need I mention why this is so fantastic?! On my second visit I brought my children. They cannot wait to return! The staff treated them so kindly, learned their names and favorite drinks and would chat them up whenever my boys would climb up at the bar for a smoothie or juice. I truly felt at home there and cannot wait to return. It is an older resort and feels more like staying at a friends condo on the beach rather than a 'Palace' type resort that could literally leave you feeling like you haven't traveled anywhere at all. Those type of resorts all look the same to me and whenever I have vacationed like this in the past I was left feeling like I hadn't bothered to travel at all. I like the authenticity of Beachcomber. The owners are locals and can help you to experience this paradise like a true local if you so wish. Beachcomber! Will be seeing you again soon!
This last visit, there have been a few, when I got off the bus at the resort it felt like I had just come home! What a great feeling when you are in a different country. The staff are always welcoming and always do their best to help. The beach is beautiful. I think the Beach Comber is on the best part of the beach.
We have spent six weeks at this hotel over the past 4 years. We love it. It's very central on the seven mile beach. The most beautiful beach with absolutely awesome sunsets. We find the staff very friendly and accommodating. We love Jamaican food and the food is very good!!! If you are a fussy non Jamaican food lover the "all inclusive " may not work for you, there are lots of beach restaurants and vendors at your disposal . We have stayed at the Riu's and other large resorts and we prefer the smaller venue. We meet the staff, guests, and of course the Jamaican people. It's a great deal. Everything is close. We can't wait to go back. We are always surprised by how many people we meet who have been going there for a long time. We really enjoy ourselves there . Thanks to Melissa, Kim, Jeffery, Alain, Spencer, Ungi, Claude, Duke, Barbara, Cheryl, and all the staff who make this place so special.
I went to check in and it was 1 hour before the check in person showed up which happened to be the manager. She told me they were completely full, I show her my reservation she said there was a mistake. I called the company I booked through they talked to her she then told them she had a room. I had booked an ocean view with a kitchen. What she showed me was a non ocean view with a shared kitchen. I then asked if I would get a discount she promptly told me no. So I talked to the company I booked through and they found me another hotel. With the staling around by the manager I was there for 5 hours. The lobby was dirty and so was the room she showed me. There was another couple having the same issue as I was. Don't bother staying here the description of the hotel is not what you get. I took the words of the other reviews and it seamed it would be a great place to stay. Please do not waist your time or money.
