Beachcomber Club Resort
- What's Included
We have been going to Negril for 29 years and this had to be our worst experience yet. We can overlook the shabbiness of the hotel but we can never accept the treatment we were given. It began on day #1 when the hotel receptionist told us we didn't have a reservation despite the fact that we had paid in full a year before. It ended with the theft of a significant amount of money that appeared to be an "inside" job from all indications. After 29 years of nothing but positive, you can only imagine how violated we felt! The magic is gone; we will never return.
First off, I have to say that the staff are very good here. They make this place. But if you are going to book here, I would do maybe only the breakfast part and forget the rest. Beach chairs do need upgrading and maybe add a few more shade palapa's. The rooms are very worn down and somewhat grimy. I am of the understanding that they are gradually refurnishing the rooms but I'm not sure how long it will be till they are all done. You will have to buy your own water as there is none in the rooms and no fridges. Pretty disappointed when the bar charged us $4.00 US for one tiny bottle of water the first night we came in. The water they serve from the bar didn't taste very good.I think in the suites they must have full kitchens but not if you just book a room. WiFi is hit or miss. Sometimes you have it, sometimes you have to go to the lobby to use the unsecured link. The beach is probably the saving grace here. It is beautiful. I would say go somewhere else, at least until they have finished upgrading. Not sure why any tour company would send anyone here, except for the beach.
I have travelled to many parts of Jamaica and to many other Caribbean Islands. I am also of Caribbean background so I am confident when I travel, I know what I am talking about. The staff at this resort are awesome, they go out of their way to really help and provide you with the best service possible, working with what they have, which is not much.Shane, Ray, Javar, Duke, Claude, Tammy always so helpful and looking out for you. Thank you.The housekeeping staff did a great job of keeping the rooms clean and bathrooms stocked. This resort has the potential to be so much more. If you are looking for a simple place without any bells and whistles, this could be the place for you.It is the simple things that make a vacation a good vacation or a great vacation.FoodThe resort does offer a limited buffet, not always on time, but it is available. Simple is okay, but it would be nice to cook the food with some love. Jamaica is a land of delicious food, spices, fruits and vegetables. What you get at the buffet kind of leaves you feeling like you just ate in school cafeteria. Plain, no thought put into the meals. Now, the area has some great food at alternate restaurants in town or on the street.I would suggest you eat at these places, delicious authentic JA meals. I would also suggest that the owner allow locals to set up food stalls on the property for a few hours in the evening as an option to provide meals to the guests. This will save you time in kitchen, monetary savings and give your guests a great experience. There is a Wine Bar on the property that provides imported wines and cheeses and some delicious desserts if that is more to your liking.BeachIt is beautiful, close to the resort. There is a volleyball net and I saw a small game of soccer going on but other than that, there are no organized activities at this resort, so if you have kids, I would not recommend this resort. You are on your own for entertainment day and night. The lounge chairs are also old and need to be replaced. We saw at another resort on the beach, they used lounge chairs made of bamboo. They looked awesome and something that is easy to do. I know bamboo grows all over the Island. The night time you can take a taxi or walk along the beach to the other hotels that offer a great night life. Awesome bands play at a different place each night and you cannot go wrong if you like the late night life.DrinksThe bar is also limited on selection, the bartenders are wonderful Melissa and Kim, super sweet and very helpful. The bar closes at 10 pm, so if you like to sit outside and have a few late night drinks, including non- alcoholic, you will need to provide your own.RoomsOur room was very spacious and looking at the other rooms they also looked spacious. The issue is that they need upgrades, the dressers are old and hard to open, chairs need new padding, base boards need replacing, the fixtures in the bathroom are also old or not very good. Something as basic as a proper towel rack should be an easy fix.The doors to the rooms are French Doors and do not close or lock well. It left a very uneasy feeling for us to leave our belongings in a room that anyone could just pull really hard and open the door.Overall, I would try another resort, the management just don’t seem to care to provide that best service to the guests, and they just do whatever get by and leave it up to the staff to make it the best experience possible for guest. The management int his place is not showing Jamaica at it's best and that is a shame.
What is wrong with the management here? They have a great hotel in a wonderful location and they seem to get everything wrong. The rooms are dark do to missing lightbulbs. The maids dont have keys to all of the rooms and NEVER have enough towels. Their breakfast service is haphazard. Some days they have a buffet and somedays they dont. Sometimes their is coffee at the restaurant but sometimes it is at the bar. No sweeteners only brown sugar. Beach chairs are older than I. The canvas ones sink to the sand and the plastic ones break. Old beach towels that dont always appear to have been washed. It is just crazy that there isnt a competent manager on premisis. All the emoyees are nice and try to please you as best they can. The owner/manager just hangs out on the beach like she is on vacation. It would take so little to make this hotel be a showplace. What a sad state of affairs.
The food was terrible, very little selection and the doors to the room were not secure at all. Paid for wifi but couldn’t connect! It is located on the seven mile beach which was good. It was called ‘inclusive’, not ‘all inclusive’. They did not have a big drink variety.
