OverviewA hacienda-style hotel located on the famous Negril Beach, Charela Inn is known for its friendly staff. All rooms have air conditioning and a private balcony or patio.
Very clean rooms. We had an ocean view King room. Nice balcony. Nice staff. Good Jazz and Reggae band that plays two nights per week. Great spot on the beach and very well maintained. Food was ok. Breakfast was my favorite. You can get traditional Jamaican food as well as traditional European and American food.
It was love at first sight! For long I looked for a winter, holistic retreat spot that I planned to host in Jamaica yearly. My fixation? The setting should have that Edenic appeal. The minute I walked on the grounds I was arrested by its natural beauty. Ground floor bedrooms are as if set behind flower gardens cultivated to look naturally wild as opposed to overly manicured. The bedrooms (over-looking the beach) whispered romance, I can see why so many beach weddings happen there. To top it all off: the food – an allure to carnivores and vegans alike, and prepared by a loyal and creative staff, to deliver a taste and experience of a true French-Jamaican culture. Daniel (Director) explained that what he serves (with few exceptions due to demand) are either produced on his farm or by locals. I could get carried away here about the baguette and its delightful crust, that never before had I eaten this French bread and not end up with my delicate gum as if wounded, but I must harp on my favourite dessert – the soursop sorbet. I left my heart at Cherela Inn, so I will keep going back!
We recently stayed at the Charela with our two adult children. We have visited Negril several times and have found the Charela Inn to be our favorite place to stay. It is consistently a good choice for the quality and cleanliness of the rooms, the location on the coconut palm tree lined beach, breakfast at the restaurant, and friendly, professional staff. We will be back!
We had two rooms each with 2 double beds. Very clean and spacious. The staff was great before we even arrived. They answered all my questions I had since I was nervous about my children going to a foreign place for the first time. They put all my concerns to rest. Once we arrived they were great with the kids. They answered more of my questions about excursions and sightseeing. The restaurant has a delicious breakfast. Food caters to traditional breakfasts and the local Jamaican...which I enjoyed. The price reasonable. The restaurant staff there once again treated us very well. Always asking if we needed anything. Dinner was a mix of French and Jamaican cuisine. Very tasty. The view from the restaurant looking out onto the beach....BREATHTAKING! I cannot wait to go back!
Just returned a few weeks ago from a peaceful weekend stay at Charela Hotel.Let me give my views in two categories, Good and could be improved:-GoodCharela is ideally located on the 7 mile stretch of beautiful and clean white sand beach in Negril. The rooms are pristine clean and airy as well as spacious. Lots of beach chairs and shady trees on the beach. It is a small and intimate property and near to the restaurant and bar on the property. Great local jazz band plays by the large restaurant area on Saturday nights. A good vibe!Could be improvedThe landscaping needs attention. Lawns have too many weeds and no structure to the plants, a lime tree here and a flower pot there and some awfully obstructive planter boxes (that have no plants) throughout the small parking lot that makes parking an obstacle courseThe food served at the restaurant on property needs seasoning and general improvement. We had a semosa that was tiny and square with a tiny drop of what was said to be beef. It was not a semosa (made famous by the asians) and so it should not be called by this name. The breakfast omelette was flat and tasteless and was not fluffy and the Jamaican breakfast of ackee and saltfish was just okay. The famous french bread that is reputed to be baked on property was served at room temperature and was not warmed before serving. (Yes french bread can indeed be warmed in a good commercial toaster oven) The sea food crepe also was not tasty and again was not light and fluffy but doughy. The staff were pleasant and helpful but the wait staff who was kind enough to serve breakfast on the patio left the utensils and fruit skins there until the next morning. She did clear some away but since we were not finished eating she may have forgotten to return. No big deal really!I would recommend Charela for its overall coziness and location. I rated it a 4 for these positives as the negatives can be improved.
