Wonderful hotel, with a fantastic taste of the Caribbean

We stayed for 10 nights and weren't disappointed, although there are a couple of things to be aware of. The rooms are spacious and set in wonderful gardens, with the path leading to the wonderful beach. The minor things to consider are extremely slow service, lack of milk and fruit and the hawkers on the beach. None of these things detracted from a lovely time and we'll go again.

Fun & relaxing adult trip!

We just got back from Country Country & had a great time. We're 2 women in our 40's & 50's. I am Jamaican-born & come to Jamaica very often. My travelling partner is Canadian, and has been to Jamaica a few times.Pros: Country Country (CC) is right on the beach and it is a beautiful beach. So pretty - white sand as far was you can see. CC is in a perfect location. It is, however, 2 doors down from Margarativille which was loud on Friday night, but I did not hear noise any other night. It was a 1 minute walk from our cottage to the beach. There were chairs and umbrellas every day except once - and the1 day, we asked the staff to get us a chair from a stack they had available. The bar was right on the beach. The bar staff were great about filling up our ice-buckets and glasses, so we could cool our own drinks without having to buy them from the bar (we went into town on the first day & bought rum/beer/mix - kept the costs down). The room was very cute - we had a premium cottage room. King-sized bed, sofa, bar fridge, TV. Loved the footbaths on the porches, so you didn't bring sand into the rooms. The towel service was great - at times we couldn't figure out where to leave the towels or where/when they were coming, but the towels always showed up, either waiting for us on our porch in the morning, or delivered on the beach. We had more towels than needed at all times. Breakfast was good - not huge, but a decent sized portion. I had the Jamaican breakfast almost every day - ackee & saltfish and callaloo. The staff are mostly great. Very friendly. Security is tight. I felt safe on the beach at all times.Cons: Not too many cons. CC is not a glamourous place - & that's OK. It doesn't pretend to be. It is made up of cottages, more on the rustic side. There is no mini-bar. Don't go there looking for high-end. It's not that kinda place. It's laid back & casual. However, the coffee-maker in the room never worked. We had it replaced once & complained again, but never got a working one. In conversation with other guests, several noted they did not have working coffee makers either. For the first 5 days, we did not having a working fridge. However, we will take some blame on that one - at first, we thought it just wasn't too cold, then when we realized it really wasn't working, we didn't complain until day 5. The staff then discovered it was not plugged in! So, hotel not completely to blame - but clearly equipment wasn't being checked, and we spent much time getting a lot of ice from the bar to cool drinks that could have been kept cold, and money buying cold drinks on the days when we hadn't yet started our ritual of cooling them down via the ice-bucket.In general, we had a great stay. Again CC is in a perfect location. We walked much of the beach every day. I note that many people complain about the sellers on the beach and wanting to be left alone. To present a different view, I think that's the life of Negril beach! The beach is fun! Talking to the folks out there hustling is life! Of course, use common sense and be very careful to not get taken in & release all of your money, but there are great stories and conversations out there - and the folks out there know what's going on in Jamaica, and know the beach, and know the best places to eat and do things....I love it.Negril is not so cheap! Budget wisely. Dinners are mostly going to run you per person, $20 - $30USD + drinks + tax + automatic 10% service charge. Read your bill. The mosquitos are a problem - bring lots of repellant. The sun is hot - bring lots of sunscreen. One big downer for us, not at all in CC's control - the ocean water was unusually cold. I have never felt water this cold in Jamaica in my entire life. When the sun was out, it would warm things up, and after being in there for a few minutes, it was OK, but I was surprised at the temperature. All, in all, a great trip. I would return here.

2nd year in a row...and we will be back

Went to Country Country for the 2nd year in a row. Was welcomed back with open arms from a wonderful staff who remembered us. Stayed on the 2nd floor of a 2 story villa. Felt like we were in the jungle and provided the privacy we desire while on vacation. Room came equipped with king size bed, mini fridge, ample storage, couch, table, and tv. Although the TV didn't really work, we spent most of our time outside. We did have a "vacation" pet...little kitty that we and our new Canadian friends named, Lucea, that stayed on our deck 3 nights :) The ocean was a short 50 yd walk. Each day, after we had our complementary breakfast, Jason (the security guard) saved us front row seats right on the beach. Jason does an amazing job at making sure you aren't approached by too many locals trying to sell you items. You feel completely safe leaving your items to take a dip in the Caribbean or taking a short walk down 7-mile beach. Jason even coordinated our parasail trip on our last day. We had lunch and drinks at the bar often during our week. Food is good and drinks are even better. We would definitely recommend the jerk chicken club, the quesadilla, the pina colada, and the strawberry daiquiri (thanks Andre) In the evening, there really is no better place in the world to watch the sunset. You literally get the best view right from the resort. There are many restaurants within walking distance on the beach. Security knows it's residents and will stay out until you return at night. Once again, Country Country provided us with a blissful home away from home. We will be back for 3rd time.

Lovely setting, laid back style!

We were here for a week in February. Our first time in Jamaica. Overall, we were quite happy with the accomodations. On the plus side--the location and beach are perfect. The beach was never too crowded that we couldn't find a chair in either the sun or shade depending on our preference. The room was big and clean, although a bit dated. The food was okay, but we only had one dinner here on Valentine's Day for which the staff did a great job creating a romantic atmosphere with a beach bonfire. Breakfast was included and was good, espcially the coffee which was outstanding!! Staff was quite friendly. On the down side--we had trouble nearly every morning with getting fresh beach towels. They were to be left outside our room, but were never there and they never seemed to have any extra when we asked for some. We dropped off our used towels every evening as told, but this was an ongoing issue for several days. Secondly, the rooms have no real windows or screens, just louvered shutters which can be closed at night. So, there can be mosquitoes in the rooms and also you will hear EVERYTHING going on ouside. I strongly suggest bringing ear plugs which thankfully we both had, otherwise would have not gotten much sleep. I also used eye shades because our room was across from the pool and the light from there shone right into our room. Also, Wifi is not the greatest in the rooms or on the beach, but works quite well if you go up to the Wifi lounge. To sum it up, we enjoyed our stay very much. For the price, I believe the accomodations were very good. I would definitely consider staying at Country Country again on a return trip to Jamaica!

First Time In Negril!!!!!

We stayed here for 7 nights mid-march . Front Desk - OK check in, however tried to charge extra for our 13 yr. old daughters breakfasts which we had pre-paid - also there was a $100 deposit for the use of the safe and we were told we could use that deposit for purchases at the bar or restaurant - It worked out alright ,I just don't like surprises. Our Room was one King and a pull-out on the second floor of a 3 story villa like building overlooking the pool. AC worked fine - plenty of hot water although water pressure seemed to decrease during peak times(no big deal) Beds a little on the firm side - Pillows a little on the flat side(no big deal) Food - Breakfast was great (and complimentary) , 5 or so selections not huge servings but good quality and a good way to start your day. We also had lunch a couple of times and dinner once and the meals were fine. The Bar was good $3 for a beer and $6 - $8 for a mixed drink. Service at the Bar and restaurants was great. The Beach area was excellent, plenty of chairs and a good mix of sun/shade. Security was great , no higglers bothering you unless you waved them up - and our belongings were safe on our chairs when we decided to venture into the ocean or go for a walk - Just let Security know you are going for a walk and they will keep an eye on things while your gone - Still, never leave anything of value behind when you do this. We left our towels/books/coolers and such on our chairs and went for hour long walks - no problem. In return I did give security a tip or cold drink on a few occasions during the week. I also gave the Bar staff a small tip for filling up my collapseable cooler with ice to keep water and other items cold. Overall we had a great vacation at Country Country ( met some very nice fellow travellers, good laid back feeling to the place all on the most vibrant beach we have ever been to (we will certainly return) I will post a trip report on the forum outlining where we went /the various places we ate/ our excursion to Calico Jacks and our overall experience in Negril as it compares to our other destinations.
