OverviewFun Holiday Beach Resort is ideally located on Negril's world famous seven mile beach and near to shopping, golf and more.
This was an amazing vacation. Never felt out of place felt just like visiting your second home. The front reception staff were a little unfriendly but all other staff were awesome! The food was good the drinks poured freely and the beach and water to die for. Thanks to Patrick for making us feel safe and secure and "country" for the tunes and entertainment. If you want the homey feeling this resort is for you.
Yes, the title says it all. I'm not offended by ganja, but, the sheer volume available or being smoked (both on the beach and at the hotel) was astounding. This resort has lots of extras - it costs you extra for a safe box, refrigerator, coffee maker, etc. The rooms are clean and about half of the rooms look to have new windows and doors. Our room had not been renovated and therefore, windows couldn't be opened. Water pressure in the shower was very good. Beds are not the best I've experienced but probably not the worst - if you like a hard/flat bed you're in luck. Wait staff & cleaning staff were EXCELLENT. I apologize as there were several of you, but Aneike is the only name i wrote down/retained, but there were others too. Bar staff were the most disinterested I've ever experienced. They served the drinks, with no interaction at all. They still use keys to lock your room (I'm used to a hotel door locking behind me - my problem not theirs) and we kept leaving our key in the door - our maid would see this, lock our room and keep an eye out for us later to give our key back. The bar serves the very cheapest alcohol that money can buy. I went down the beach and bought my own bottle of rum as I found the rum they served horrible. They tried to make a Margarita from vodka. I told the bartender he would have to call it something else as a Margarita has tequila in it - apparently the boss wouldn't buy tequila. I didn't find 1 drink they made that I liked - no not Margarita, Pina Colada, Rum Punch - nothing. The swim up bar was only open one day (out of 7 days) and it's a cash bar. REALLY, I don't know who carries cash when they're in the pool !! The bartender was excellent about going to the "all inclusive" bar to get people drinks though . The bar served Red Stripe, but if you wanted Red Stripe Lite it was cash. The security guard did his best to keep vendors away, but some of them didn't have a lot of respect for what he was trying to achieve, therefore, 7 am he's trying to shoo a ganja seller away and they end up arguing - so much for a peaceful morning down at the water. The Wi-Fi works great at room & pool, but no connection at the beach. This hotel is around the middle of 7 mile beach so great location. You can walk in to Negril easily, lots of taxis available as well as some great food both on the beach and out at the road. The food at the hotel was good - no issues. If you are looking for peace and quiet this is NOT the place. Some other resorts are set back a little further so you may get less vendors (they stay closer to the water) but as far as being in the middle of the action you can't get a better place. I don't believe it would be a great place for people with children only due to the amount of ganja smokers everywhere. If you are looking for a place in the middle of the action and nothing fancy, then this would be the place for you. I did have a big problem with bites here - not something I usually have a problem with - not sure if it was sand fleas, mosquitoes, or ?? I don't know if it's the volume of visitors but I found the roadside VERY dirty - lots of garbage lying about, whereas Montego Bay seemed to be much cleaner. There are lots of vendors along 7 mile beach so you should have no problem finding the souvenirs you are looking for (Corianne is down by Margaritaville) and they make their own wood carvings. Oh yeah, the entertainment was less than average. There was 1 night with an good band but that was it. I thought we were supposed to have a beach party, but that didn't happen - may have had something to do with the seaweed blowing in (no fault of the resort) but a storm blew in about a 2 foot wall of seaweed and it took about 5 days before the sea took it back out again, so, we spent more time down at Arthur's Beach Bar as he kept the vendors away, had great drinks and lounge chairs with umbrellas. You will need to claim a spot at the beach early if you want shade. Sunsets are amazing, no need to go to the cliffs. We spent more time away from the resort than at the resort due to many issues (smell of seaweed, sub par drinks, volume of ganja & vendors)
Just returned from a week at the resort and had an excellent time! I'll be honest- there are some issues with the property and such- but for a cheap all inclusive holiday its totally worth it. The pros- the beach is gorgeous and steps away from the resort, The property is clean and the food is not bad, the staff was awesome, they are so kind and work so hard to make your stay fun and comfortable. ( Shout out to 'Country') The cons- the property and the rooms are a little run down, (for instance our toilet overflowed and sometimes there is no water pressure whatsoever) Sometimes theres no coffee or they run out of beer..( mostly because other guests bring their big cooler mugs and fill them up) so it may take them a while to refill the coffee or get another keg hooked up. What also is important to know, is that there are hundreds of people soliciting on the beach and they can be quite persistent; however there are some very funny and interesting characters so was quite entertaining ...Really if you're not too much of a diva, you'll have a good time here despite the glitches here and there. Make sure to tip all the employees good because the minimum wage in Jamaica is around $50 american a week!
The resort is worn but clean. The food is delicious. The staff work very hard and always want to please you. There is a variety of entertainment. The beach is great. You feel very safe when walking the beach.
We went to this 3 star all inclusive resort with family and friends for a wedding in Negril. The hotel was small and quaint with charm. But had its issues. On the good side the staff was wonderful and did a great job with the resources management allowed them. The entertainment director "Country" was a hoot and we always had a fun evening. The hotel was clean and kept nice but very dated. 80s style. The showers worked but rarely had hot water. The drinking water at the hotel was extremely safe. Noone in our party got sick. There was never enough forks at meals. We ate with spoons most days. And it was first come first serve. When the food ran out at the buffet it was never refilled. Guests early in the lineup tended to make pigs of themselves and take all the salads so many guests went without. On the plus side, the food was excellent quality. Very tasty. Just not plenty enough. And our biggest complaint was they never had enough beer. It ran out very early and they seemed to be rationing it daily. The all inclusive ended and 10pm and you had to pay after that if it was even open. We had to go buy beer at the local store for after 10. So we ended up spending way more money than expected from an all inclusive. All in all, it wasn't the quality AI hotel we usually book, but the experience with friends and family made it an awesome vacation. Many of the guests go there often as it is a good bang for your buck if you aren't too high maintenance. The Beach is absolutely beautiful. Swimming is clean and safe and the sports activities are plentiful. The hustle from the beach locals is extensive and you need to be firm with them. Don't accept their gifts or they will hound you the whole trip. Having said that some of their wares are beautiful. Seek out "Powerstrap" who makes bracelets from Coral. They are gorgeous. Beware of the stuff made in China not authentic Jamaican. Would I go back?? Yes if I was on a limited budget and just wanted sun, fun, beach and beautiful weather. Just would be better informed of the cost of things and the Jamaican way of doing things.
